This is probably the best Paint channel on youtube. I wish youtube was around in the late 80s and into the 90s when I was painting cars. Most of what you teach I've known for years and there is also the changes in equipment that I wished I had. I don't paint cars anymore but I still love the trade. I tend to do paint correction these days as a side job just to keep me in the car game. I love making cars look their best !! Thanks for the videos !
@@coltonbocock2586 If you have no experience, no tools, no clean space, and no equipment, I would do a lot of research and learn as much as you can, prepare, buy all the gear you need and practice before doing the car. If you can't, better to pay someone.
I’m from Greece and thanks to you I started painting my own parts of the motorbike and I have to say, your tips are THE best man!! I’m even looking a job in a paint shop to have all the experience!
Thank you ! Just watched this primer to paint series I’m painting my 1967 cobra Shelby Mustang because I took it to a shop and the guy basically stabbed me right in the back and kept my 20 grand so I am stuck basically doing this myself until I can get my money recouped so watching your video really helped me, darling. Thank you so much. I’m from mountain Range, California Again 1967 cover Shelby, GT Mustang, and needless to say she’s my baby and your video really help me with the spots I found out the first time too late and had to go back and start again like you , said and it is a nightmare. !! Those dark spots certainly come through on your paint. I tried it. I looked from at my car from the side and my hood looked like a freaking Dalmatian. It was terrible, so thanks again, darling. So, I do a lot of wet sanding it helps with the paper not getting clogged, as for seeing whats going on. I usually run a small stream/drip of water from the highest point of the panel down. All the dust and particles drip off the panel and usually dont cloud your vision. The paper stays pretty clean, when i dry sand usually i have to use a blow gun and blow out the paper quite a few times and creates a ton of dust around the garage that might later be introduced when spraying.
A trick that really helped me feel my highs and lows when I was new was to use a blue shop towel or paper towel in your hand when you go across the panel....made the world of difference. Awesome videos love watching
Brian, I want to say thank you for all the videos you have made. I'm a very beginner painter/car worker. You have helped me out so so much. I learned about the different grits of scuff pads and how to continue to use Guy coat in circular motion to fill in the sanding scratches to see the lows that need to be sanded down level by using a higher grit sand paper. Take your time in making sure that all is taken care of that the body work has been done right the 1st time so that if there needs to be a small fix Now is the time to fix it…not in the spray booth! Thanks Again Brian for a well thought out video! Always looking out for the little guy!😂

Hi Brian I have a great tip for a guide coat but first let me say the following. I enjoy doing the maintenance on my ‘08 Honda Fit but never worked on cosmetics. Thanks to your videos I got the confidence to to restore the headlights, repair dents and scratches on both bumpers and body, and even painting it. As soon as I thought about this dry guide coat idea I did a little research and couldn’t find anything about it. I doubt I’m the only one who has thought about it but let me know if you have or heard it before. Here it is, anyone who cares about working safely ends up buying a respirator. So… when I was about to throw away the old OV cartridge I was replacing. I thought about repurposing the material inside it. I opened up the cartridge and got the activated carbon out. Then I put it in a blender to make it into dust. I got a plastic mixing cup to store the carbon dust and a small piece of foam to apply and it actually worked. Let me know if you try it and like the results.

Central Ohio here. I worked in restoration for about 2 years, under a tech who had several of his restorations featured in Hot VW. He had done it for so long all he wanted to do is Fab and spray. So he taught me well. I did the disassembly, striping, blasting, blocking, masking, prep, wet, polishing, buffing, and final assembly. Lol. I loved the work and want to get back into it. That was about ten years ago. Not to many shops in the area. TBH most guys think it's weird, I could block all day and be content. I actually miss blocking the most. Watching and feeling the surface get smoother. Then coming back and feather your edges in and making sure the panel is 💯. Something extremely satisfying to me. These painting videos are the best I've found on UA-cam!!! I'm not sure if you have already, but if not, can you walk us though the paint process from bare metal to clear coat? Once again, great videos!
Nice job prepping the panel I love Geico it’s the best thing in the world to use between coats to see where you’re at definitely you can see everything with that stuff. And showing the blocking was very well done to except for one thing that I caught you on when you put the round pads on the sticky board on the flat board you should always make sure that the ends are not overlapping or else it’s going to cut a groove in your panel when you’re crosshatching and I have to agree with you Brian on water sanding it’s great sometimes but it does make quite the mess I normally do it when I just have a hood or something of that sort a great explanation as usual great job Car looks good I truly enjoy watching you work man you’re a hard-working guy and I love the idea that you teach kids that’s so cool keep up the good work👍

Question? If I’m changing the color of a 20 year old car that doesn’t need body work, but has chipped paint… do I need to sand down to the metal with 80 grit ? Online people say to sand to the metal Then you have other people who say to sand with 320 and stick with the factory paint and just prime/paint over that ?
Absolutely love the detail you go into, to show people and teach them :) I really am learning alot from your videos.. By far the best painting youtube channel around... As the saying goes, Prep is 90% of the finished outcome.. Can defo see why your paint jobs come out amazing... I also do the stevie wonder check when fillering :) Without looking, you shouldnt be able to feel any difference between the existing body and the work you have done :) thats when you know its spot on :)
Hey Brian here from So Flo as well, I have been meaning to prep my '88 Honda CRX for over 10 years... just haven't had the desire to get it done, due to life in general. Brian, can’t thank you enough for making these videos! I’m going to repaint a car soon and your videos have given me so much more info than any of the others I’ve watched. Thank you so much!
Caz, From Jamaica, love/respect, love your work & how you explain each steps for getting the best out , as getting it right the first time is important to me, blesss up Brian...
Man this is a great video I've been watching your videos for the past 3 days perfect explanation your communication skills are great. I have a project car I'm going to start on,thank you for the videos.
Hey Brian, first off, GREAT video buddy. From my opinion you explained well and pretty much covered the essentials. I also liked that you pointed out that sanding by hand will always be ruffer than sanding with a machine. I do have a few annotations: -Point out that there should always be a smooth transition from primer to old paint, if the primer stops in the middle of a panel. -Explain why you prepped the rear door and front corner panel. There is some really longlasting "sanding paper" from mirka - abranet, wich in my opinion is really good for sanding by hand, and sticks to the 3m hookit systems, might want to try it out. Though I do acknowledge not preferring wet-sanding, I think that it is just as easy to see small inperfections in the primered area. Plus if you hose it down, it'll be wet all over the workspace anyways. keep up the awesome videos - Lukas from Hamburg ( northern Germany )
Thanks. Need this info to paint my 89 Chevy truck What filler is best for oil canning and dents? Rage gold? Polyester primer? Then 2k Urethane on top and epoxy sealer?
Brian, really like your work. If I could add one thing to your videos, it would be something of a total time approximation when you roll fast or fast forward. Just to help the nice people out there manage expectations and time.
Brian once again thanks for your videos , i also my slef not knowing the bodywork industry aswell as you do , I've asked my self why wet sanding? Any ways i am watching every video of yours and the more i watch the more i want to do this, 99.9% of the prep its the key for a great finish product. Mi sincerity comment from the Norcal.

I have been watching your How vids for some time now and slowly getting the equipment necessary to start this project. Thanks for the top notch guide info, keep up the great vids!
I’m watching from Barbados in the Caribbean!
At where are I am working they are also doing wet sanding. But I'm totally agree with you about wet sanding.
Thanks so much for this video Brian, My name is Clayton and I'm from Indiana. Just starting out in my career and working as the painter's apprentice, so your videos are a must for my daily intake. You do a great job and I want to be the best that I can be, so thank you once again.

From Buffalo NY. Painting my 1979 Corvette and I have rough surface after sealer and 2 coats of base. I am hoping to learn how to smooth it before another base before clear. Hot and humid in my garage this week - everything drying super fast.
Great energy and enthusiasm Brian!! Love the content, can`t wait to start spray painting myself. originally I`m from Poland . Regards
Great video, full of information. I'd love to stop by your shop one day to say hi and check it out.

Hows this for the ends of the Earth location? I'm in Devonport Tasmania Australia. It's not quite the ends of the Earth, but the only thing south of Tasmania is Antactica! Love your video's man, i learn so much watching them, and it's been a big help for an amatuer home spray painter like me.
Texas. Subscribed. Original Owner 1991 Dodge Stealth ES. Arctic White with clear. Thinking about using the Eastwood products for etch primer, rust inhibitor, polyester fill primer, base coat, paint prep, and 4:1 Contour Clear. Lots of things have change since I worked at a dealership paint and body shop in 1980s. Thank you for bringing me up to speed again. Any advice is welcome.
Brian, can’t thank you enough for making these videos! I’m going to repaint a car soon and your videos have given me so much more info than any of the others I’ve watched. Thank you so much!
Caz, From Jamaica, love/respect, love your work & how you explain each steps for getting the best out ,

Man this is a great video I've been watching your videos for the past 3 days perfect explanation your communication skills are great. I have a project car I'm going to start on,thank you for the videos.
Welcome !!
Hey Brian,
first off, GREAT video buddy. From my opinion you explained well and pretty much covered the essentials.
I also liked that you pointed out that sanding by hand will always be ruffer than sanding with a machine.
I do have a few annotations:
-Point out that there should always be a smooth transition from primer to old paint, if the primer stops in the middle of a panel.
Thank you. I have screen shotted your comment and will make note of it in my next prepping video! Thanks again !
Sri Lanka. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks
Thanks.
Need this info to paint my 89 Chevy truck
What filler is best for oil canning and dents? Rage gold? Polyester primer?
Then 2k Urethane on top and epoxy sealer?
Thanks again for the lesson.👌from the uk.
Brian, really like your work. If I could add one thing to your videos, it would be something of a total time approximation when you roll fast or fast forward. Just to help the nice people out there manage expectations and time.
Thanks Brian... I’m going to be painting my car from bare metal. This was very helpful
Prep is everything. Glad you’re learning!!!
You are a good teacher! Thank you Brian.
