thank you for clearing up the mixing ratio. Thank you for the content for the average hobbyist. I would love to see videos covering using the products that can be purchased from O'Reilly Auto Parts Nason paint products.
Down here in my area, our oreilly don’t carry autobody supplies
i just bought the same exact brand and size last week. so happy you made a vid on this and went in depth like with all your vids. Thanks for the amazing content, tips and tricks Sir!
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos and tips during painting are very much appreciated. I'm taking on the task of painting my project. So 🤞🤞🤞🤞 "it's just paint"
Take that phrase lightly, as painting isnt cheap. The key to all paintwork is proper prep throughout. The top layer is only as durable as the layers and prep below it.
@Brian could you do a video or comment on painting high-temp surfaces, specifically brake calipers? How important is high-temp paint? What's the difference? Roll-on vs spray on, etc
I’ll be painting for the first time later this summer, so these step-by-step videos with explanations of why you’re doing what you’re doing and not something else are super helpful! 🤜⚡️🤛
Awesome! Good luck !
how’d it go thinking about doing the same
Thanks a lot! It help since I’m a student
Spraying primer in the sun is brutal man! We can’t really do that here in the mountains, So I have no idea how you can in the sunny state! Stuff is usually drying before it hits the panel, and feels rougher than 36 grit sandpaper… 😜😂 Good stuff as always Sir!
Did you notice the bay ? Hahahahha you’re not lying
Exactly. The temp of whatever you are painting shouldnt be too hot also . Thats why people need to read the tech sheets from the manuf. !
Great tutorials sir Brian 👍💪
Hello, what model UV light should I get? One that is strong enough to cure the putty. Keep the videos coming
Been a LONG time subscriber. Currently restoring a bmw e36. These are the best videos! Keep the from home content coming! Love it man!
Thanks for always watching and thanks for the comment!
First and foremost, that's one hell of a nice garage. Mine is noway as nice, but I do porting(SuperFlow machine), boring, valve grinding and three employees(my pups), which are pretty sloppy at times. Great video - thanks again! What vehicle was that for? Vette or 3000GT?
Im a street artist with 30 years painting with aerosol and have pretty good can control. Ive painted a few cars with aerosol and am ready to paint my first car with a paint gun. These videos are very helpful. ! !! ! I unfortunately dont have a garage and will be painting in my drive way with a tent. Im in Cali and the summers are hot here. Any recommendations for temp?
You have to make sure the metal you are spraying isnt too hot for one thing. Paint wont flow out nice if it basically dries instantly from to much heat. Look into the tech, data sheets of the products you use. You can find those online and on some of the products for surface temps.
Another Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. Quick Question? How do you like the Eastwood Scroll Compressor?
I've been watching these video over and over again to get ready to paint my hatchback in the spring
You can do it!
Hey Brian, i was clear coating my paint job on the roof of my car and ran out of clear before i could properly finish. I want to add more clear when i get more of it but will i need to sand the current clear before adding more a day after the initial spray of clear?
Since a moth went by , and we dont know what you did, Ill say if it were only a day, you can respray on top since it will chemically adhere to the other clear that "dried".Theres a certain time window This would be explained to just how much time has past for the next coat on the tech data sheets of the maker of the clear. If a week or so passed, you would have to scuff the whole area again so the new clear will adhere to the older clear mechanically. ( sand scratch)
Hi I haven't seen you painting a full car with a turbine sprayer you give good info
There is a reason for that😂
@PaintSociety yes there is a reason I don't have a compressor so I'm undecided either a compressor or that turbine sprayer that is why I wanted to see if that turbine can do the job
Thank you
Hey Brian, Mike here from southwest Idaho. Thank you for providing us with these great how to paint videos. My project is a '49 Chevy truck, as I sand and do metal work, I end up exposing bare metal. My question is this, do I need to spot prime with epoxy or an etching material or can I go directly to the 2K urethane primer. Thanks again.
Hi. I'm doing a repaint on a basecoat/clearcoat truck. There are a couple of small repairs that required bondo...about 2 inches across. Should I prime the entire vehicle or just the repairs? Also, which primer would you recommend? First-time painter and your videos are incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Hello Brian, you said don't overthink, ok. But I notice here after cleaning your 3M gun, you did not connect the gun to your air, and blow out some air to clean all your hole.
Not needed.
are you supposed to then, sand down the primer that you sprayed on?
Very nice
Hey Brain i'm wanting to Paint a 68 Chevelle the last paint job the guy did a bad job you can see sanding marks all over but the paint layed out nice its a red and i will redo it red how do i match this color with out knowing what it is Thanks enjoy watching your videos
I'm having a problem, I bought a cheap spray gun, and I got orange peel texture, how to prevent this problem?
Do I need to base coat over epoxy primer or can I just got direct to clear if I like the color of the sealer?
I have clear coat peeling bad. after I sand it. would I use the 2k urethane to cover the vehicle before paint
If I use primer and the surface isn’t flat, can I add body filler on top of the primer area?
Wouldn't in the shade be better while spraying, surface temperatures must be over 100 degrees. Then let the sun do its thing after final coat.
Yes
I've been professionally doing body work for 15+ yrs and own my own shop now.... I've never seen or heard of never that simple (also obvious) trick to fill pinholes lol. Awesome tip. Always learning new things is critical in this business.
Wow, thank you! It does help so you don’t have to bust out the filler and primer again.
Brian. Been watching since the beginning, and evertime it gets better. A true Master at ur Craft
Thanks for being a fan always!
Brian, your videos are the absolute best! From beginner to professional your channel is a 1-stop shop for all your body and paint needs and how to .. Thanks again Brian!
Glad you like them!
How long do i wait between coats? You said clean gun between aplications ? Am i sapose to do new mixes for every coat since it is time crucial ?
great content! great video Brian ! thank you for your hard work 👏👏👏
Thank you 😍
Always good to see a new paint society video!
Really appreciate all your hard work and videos and instructions. I’ve been in the Autobody business for over 30 years. How do you like your new air compressor, I’ve worked with several types of air compressors in the past, need a new one soon. Is it quiet and does it keep up with tools well? How about bigger grinders?
👍
Luv ur videos 📹 too
Kandy Man competition?
I'm still confused on when your should be "sealing" vs "priming" and if any differences with ABS plastics. (I was just gifted a 3M PPS starter kit as my first spray gun, I'm excited to attempt my first project!)
very grateful that you share your expertise and advice on all things painting. I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say we're blessed to learn and improve through you and your channel. Liking and subscribing! 👍
have you done an episode on All the most basic tools to paint on a budget" ? obvioslyi sandpapers, blocks.
best basic gun that can do most processes primer, base, clear. if there is a gun that can do all three? how much $$$ needs to be spent to get the job done that's not high end or pro level. maybe 1200$ budget need a breakdown of how to get started don't want to test and buy before we know c exactly what's needed thanks for all your content
Have you found out?

Thank you im fixing to paint my nova and its my first time keep up the Informative stuff cause I sure need it thank you again
Hi Brian, I'm following your instructions,, How to prepare and paint,, But if something comes wrong, don't overthink,,is my mistake,, thanks.
Great video Brian - what 2k primer would you recommend for spraying with a LVLP gun rather than a HVLP spray gun? Keep up the awesome work!
Another great informational video Brian. One question. I didn’t see you filter the mixture prior to spraying. Is it not necessary or does that 3M system filter it as well?
The 3m pps lid has a filter on it.
Exact question I had. Thanks so much for this video!!
Hey 👋 Scott … you do a great job of explaining the steps and little details !!👍🏻
Hello Brian. You must be in the same neighborhood as me. Noticed how deep your backyard goes to the lake. Mine too. I'm in the Chapel Trails Developement in western Pembroke Pines.
good day sir...I am one of your viewer here in the philippines... hoping that i can have your used spray gun that I can use in my work...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I can't be the only person surprised that the fender stand was manufactured and not a DIY. That thing looks like you found some random square tubing laying around and cobbled it together.
I know I've made several that look very similar.
This was excellent. I have some fixing existing bad paint, BC CC flaking, on two black vehicles and am debating what paint to use and was shocked by the costs now. I aman old man but I did paint a lot of cars, trucks, vans in the 80s with Acr Laq and a few with Acr Enamel but my experience with teh newer stuff is not desirable. I have a truck hood and roof and a car hood and spoiler to redo and then in a year or so possibly a 68 SS 396 Camaro but I have almost all panels and floor to weld in new ones. Can I contact you with a real Email and ask questions and even ones with pics later on? Thanks. I hate to do it all on here. I am doing that a bit now with a great guy doing his own panels and etc and paint. Your attention to detail is great for someone like me.
I been painting since I was a kid and I want to say man you know what your doing and I've learned some things I didn't know thanks man for your videos
Hello,
I have a super tiny scrape on the bottom of my door from opening it onto a piece of concrete sidewalk.
I think the paint was scratched off.
Question is can I use a drop of regular spray paint primer before using the color match paint for my car.
Is it not advisable to wax the car after it’s painted and not before … as I read?
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for the info, great videos. I realy like when I learn new stuff even with basic steps like primer.
Spray away glass cleaner smells absolutely horrendous. Worse than any of the automotive coatings imho
So if im painting bare metal it would be. Expoxy, 2k urethane base then clear??
Literally binge watching ever video you made because I suddenly developed an interest in the body work side of the industry I’m a mechanic and am realizing how many people ask me if I do body work I’m glade u added that part where you should be adding 1 part reducer because I’m also in south Florida and it’s 85-95 degrees 8 months out of the year
You are the best❤
Appreciate what you do. Restoring a 1972 FJ40. Tub off, had all body pieces media blasted. Now fixing holes and rust repair. Using your videos to walk me through the entire process. 1st time doing this and following your lead. You are a good teacher. Looking forward to getting to the actual painting. Keep up the great work!!!!
Your first paint job is soooo rewarding, I hope it goes super well for you. Keep it simple, keep your area clean and you'll have good results.
Love what you do and the passion you put into it
Proper prepping is 90% of your paint job if it's not prepped right it's not going to come out right!
If your painting a car Black does primer color matter?
These videos are insanely helpful. I'm a DYI guy, and have no one to teach me. Keep up the awesome content. It's SO valuable for my projects. Thank you.
95 degrees those panels would have been super hot on the surface for the first coat.
Watching from the Philippines sir 👍💪 very nice materials and guide sir ❤️
Brian always so price me every show your tips and tricks always the best thanks bro from San Antonio tx smashing my like botton Texas style katakabooooooooooooom
I appreciate that!
Can you use this primer on plastic bumpers?
My girl has a 1999 MX5 Miata. Green flake metallic.. few dings no damage. have you ever painted one of these ? Watching lots of your tips great work thx..
Great video Brian super informative!!
1st want to say your channel & advise has helped immensely as I've learned to paint last couple years. Thank you. However, Im hoping to get some advise on painting my trucks rocker panels. I live in Midwest so salt, snow, humidity, heat, ect are not nice to my work truck. I am getting my rockers sanded down and prep'd to prime and spray with bed liner coating. Would epoxy primer be a better option vs urethane in providing more protection under the bed liner coat against rock chips, salt, ect?
Yes epoxy is the best!!
cut away from yourself not towards yourself
Try 3M gun cleaning spray. Trust me
so i am restoring 98 integra gsr trailing arms they have light surface rust .... my plan is to sand bast the entire arm then wash it clean it up a few times then epoxy primer it 2 coats but ill let it dry for 24 hours between coats .... then i will just apply 2 top coats after that ? what do you think ?
Brian can i spray 2k primer over bare metal and filler
VERY good videos overall for youtube but objectively you have so many inconsistencies that aren’t logical eg you sometimes use a non epoxy primer directly over metal but you still say you should use epoxy over bare metal. Another thing you say use guide coat for sanding but in this video you dont.
These are the inconsistencies that are making it so you arent a huge franchise business owner and are still doing manual labour.
Many other things I could bring up
???
Can you do a review on that Eastwood QSt 30/60? How do you like it? You think its enough to sand/paint a whole car at one shot? In the market to upgrade for one of those eastwood bc of the quietness if not a 60 gallon compressor from Ingersoll.
im sure you've talked about it before. but im interested in what basic hardware is needed. type of compressor, what the spec for the compressor should be etc. for a garage diy and not getting ruined. pls give me info or links to the videos
Best paint gun storage for diy guys?
👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brian, thank you for all you do… sharing your knowledge is so very valuable to us, your audience! I have a particular question regarding primer, color coat and clear coating… let me explain. I have a 1990 Corvette convertible in very decent condition, I’m pretty sure it’s not original paint. The paint is nice, 8-9 of 10, but there are small road chips and several small scratches. I lightly sanded out the chip and scratch spots then used red spot putty to flat and smooth. I’m intending to airbrush on a thinned out primer, then very lightly sand if needed, then color coat (white) , then clear…. Believe me, I know it’s NOT the best nor correct way, but I think it will do. Could you please help with a video or reply with your out of the box help?
Best!
JD
That’s a tough one because that red putty will shrink since its a 1k preduct. Glazing putty would be much better for the chips then some primer over that
@@PaintSociety …and that’s why UDAMAN!! Thank you!
Your video provides lots of detail information, making DIYer more professional. Thank you so much.❤
You are so welcome!
Another great video Brian thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
i sprayed epoxy primer, and it came out smooth but with a little fine texture.
It must be sanded smooth, otherwise the texture will magnify in the top coats and clear will be orange peel AF, and metallics won't lay properly in a finely textured epoxy.
Hi Brian great video as always. Was wondering when you sanded the fender down to the bare substrate wasn’t sure but before you sprayed your primer should you used a adhesion per motor?
It’s not plastic so no need to
per motor?? Do you mean promoter
Like what I see
Hi Brain have a question I purchased Eastwoods 2K Aero epoxy primer in the 2 part can ,, is it a urethane epoxy primer?
So 1 part paint thinner?
Also a cheaper way to go is Eastwood has a sanding block that’s attaching to a shop vac.
I dont get it. You put primer on and sand it off? What's the point? Why not sand it and paint it?
Im restoring the body of a 1961 bugeye sprite.
This will help me greatly🎉
I’ve learned more from this Chanel then I learned I’m tech school.😂 🔥 .
THIS HELPS A LOT. i have been seeing different videos with conflicting messages. some say to wait 30 minutes until the primer flashes off than paint over it, if you let it dry for days than the paint will peel off like an old dodge truck. in this vid we are waiting and sanding.
What if I put color on a primer that never dries? Because even after days, when iI want to clean with a cloth and alcool, that damn primer goes arround, on the paint. What would it do if I apply the color?
If your primer never dried it means the activator was old. Hardeners needs to be used up pretty quickly once its opened and the air gets to it! I found out the hard way myself with clear. I airbrushed some artwork, then clearcoated a Harley V Rod, and when I expected the clear to be hardened, it felt rubbery . I waited longer and it would always leave a fingernail mark it it when I tested it. My hardener was opened over a month prior to using it on this paintjob. So after this fiasco,(strip and repaint), I would buy just those small 1/2 pint sized hardeners, instead of the larger containers. The stuff is to expensive just to throw away the unused . I painted as a side job, not a full time shop owner. This was House of Kolor paints
@@terrythomas790 if it was the Color ok but for the primer, they gave me a can. And an activator for primer? It’s ok, it finally dried and been able to put the color. Got to say it was in my friend’s garage so more humidities maybe
Do you rinse out your spray gun between coats while you wait for the primer to flash since you're outside?
You are awesome! Thank you for continually imparting amazing content
Good explanation . I got half practical experience . Thank you sir .
sprayaway is always my go to... cheap and gets the job done for pre paint prep
Thanks Brian. Good knowledge transfer.
oh good it's the C5 Corvette Hood
Great video! 👍
Brian I really appreciate how you explain so clear. Thank you. It just the one I needed.
Nice job man, great details.
