It actually wasn't a that much a problem, most people never got addicted to it since it was in limited supply and it has a lot of medicinal properties if used right

It would be cool if a reboot of this game came out with more stuff to do. Maybe you could create entire trade guilds spanning across the world, maybe there could be wars breaking out between colonial powers and you have to deal with warships at sea and how the wars affect prices on certain goods, maybe you could do pirate-ish things like finding legendary artifacts to either sell or display in your residence etc.

I was THAT kid, too, once. My elementary had this "Teddy Bear Picnic", where everyone brought their plush animals to school and had special lunches. I forgot to bring a toy almost every year. One year, my friend Samuel let me use his rabbit toy. I loved that thing. It was so cute, and I wanted it. So, after the Teddy Bear picnic, I just kept saying I forgot it at home. I did this every day until Samuel stopped asking. And I still have it, right now, in my massive pile of plushes. It fills me with both joy and shame when I look upon it.

First of all, that is not how you use periods. Second of all just because the Internet consensus says something sucks doesn't change the fact that whether or not something sucks is still a matter of opinion. Because you like the green lantern movie then by definition you don't think it sucks and that's okay. My point in all of this is that you shouldn't make sweeping statements like "nobody like no man's sky" or "because I like it doesn't mean it doesn't suck" because both of those are matter of opinion issues and therefore makes both statements wrong (also learn how to use a god damn period correctly)

There's a Sid Meier's Pirates! game that plays similarly to this except more cartoony and I just love it. It actually has a method of setting you back as well, where after a year or two your crew starts to get really sick of travelling and start becoming mutinous and it's best to split your earnings and start over at a higher difficulty with a boost of gold and you retain your flagship. There are several goals in the end but it basically centers around another pirate kidnapping all your family members and ruining your life and you having to build up your own empire, rescue family members, discover buried treasure and discover lost cities. The people I recommended it to also became hooked by different features, like becoming a feared pirate, courting beautiful women, or just getting rich as fuck.

For some reason, whenever I look at games of this more slow-paced, "realistic simulator" nature, it always brings me back to times when my mom played this one train simulator. Memories of gaming even before I had even touched a game, those overhead views of train tracks, blended with the images of Sim city 3000 were among my first exposures to games thanks to my mom. Of course, it was the Playstation that introduced me to games and have more of a leaning on action, but sometimes, I get massive cravings for games like this. These incredibly mellow games, based more around very basic shit like sailing from port to port or driving on the road for hours, delivering cargo. It's an aspect of my game collection I'm seriously mal-nourished of.
