I discovered Sim City: The Card Game at the 1995 Origins game convention and, being an 11-year-old Sim City-loving geek, spent an unreasonably large percentage of my time there playing it despite the plethora of other games present (hello? Magic?!). I also remember the game's oft-tedious mechanics. I played in the mini-tournament that Mayfair Games put on at that con, and the final game had us clustered around a gigantic table and as you can imagine, we built an absolutely enormous freakin' city, complete with the wide cards, having to count all conditional bonuses for connected roads, rail, and power lines on each play of the card, and draw decks were scattered around the periphery of this psychotic metropolis. By the end of the game we had basically all become certified public accountants, and I suspect the game developers were taking note of the scalability issues. The council members on the cards were portrayed by actual Mayfair employees, and a few were at the convention to promote the game. The Mayor in the game was the late Darwin Bromley (RIP), co-founder of Mayfair Games. The City Council Chairman "developer's uncle" was a Mayfair employee manning the booth, and somewhere (probably in a box labeled "Paul's Crap" in my parents' attic) is an actual autographed copy of that card if you can believe it. Sadly I don't think I saw cellphone guy. As you would imagine, this game never caught on, once I got home I only found one card shop in my area that carried the game, and it wasn't around for long. I got more into MTG and Star Wars instead and the allure of SimCity:TCG quickly waned. Thanks to Jared for this trip down memory lane.

Normally I can't stand the sponsor stuff but this particular sponsor has actually gotten me interested and I genuinely appreciate your bringing them to my attention. Thank you!
Lords of Light! The nostalgia of this one. Knowing your background with Magic: The Gathering, I had a feeling it would be the card game (if not some handheld or electronic board game). I only ever found booster packs of these, so I never knew how to play the game. Now I find out I was overthinking it. It's basically Rivers, Roads, and Rails with politics. And then I noticed the Hastings sticker on the card box... The memories. ☺️
The Macintosh version was my introduction to SimCity. Along with Carmen Sandiego, Math Blaster, and Kid Pix, SimCity was a go-to for me during computer lab back in elementary school.
Jared, I was one of the people who rather happily walked on the bandwagon of trying my best to destroy you and your reputation during the major controversy last year. Since then I have come to learn that you were by and large innocent of the claims laid against you and I wanted to apologize--not just for the internet, but on my own behalf. I shouldn't have been so quick to judge and I'm sure I only contributed to the pain and suffering you received. It's hard to watch your content now with the grief I feel, but at the very least I wanted to apologize. Have a good one and keep uploading, man.
I was waiting for him to go into a long explanation of the card game for ten minutes just to say "BUT THIS ISN'T THE WEIRDEST SIM CITY GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The video in which Jared makes the market value of Sim City long cards skyrocket, then immediately folds several of what would become some of the most valuable collectible cards by the year 2025.
When I was getting into trading card games in the late 90s/early 2000s, my grandparents bought me a starter deck of this and a few booster packs from a swap meet. I never actually played it, but I kept the cards until 2014 when I was force to sell the fast majority of my trading card game collection.
I waited too long to watch this one... impressive depth of research into the history of SimCity games, and the sight gags and comic timing here are gold.

Ha! I'm rewatching Gargoyles as well on Disney+! Forgot how awesome and dark the show was.
Wow this is like the skyrim of back in the day where it's on every console and I think you just gave skyrim a new port with the cards 😆
There's actually a board game so it's not far off 😂
@@Camexagon oh damn 🤣 I didn't know now I feel silly
@@Camexagon There's even an Alexa version
The guy whose photo is just him standing in front of a fireplace at Christmas keeps cracking me up.
I dont need to finish the video before hitting the like button
Lol same
That's a cool little loop on your page...post more!
@@violetgreene6133 oh wow, thanks! I will be for sure, just started that page to put some things out there:)🤘
A new non final fantasy video, i'm so pumped. Love the FF videos but its nice to have a classic vid.
13 second gang
I'm 13 minutes gang (plus video, ad, and comment writing duration).
Normally I can't stand the sponsor stuff but this particular sponsor has actually gotten me interested and I genuinely appreciate your bringing them to my attention. Thank you!
It's pronounced "ZED"X Spectrum, not "ZEE"X.
So, that's what that accidental stream was about. And it was only to capture footage for a version of Sim City that _wasn't_ the weirdest.
I cannot say I expected a Simcity card game buy I will never turn down a video about an obscure card game from Jared.
The Macintosh version was my introduction to SimCity. Along with Carmen Sandiego, Math Blaster, and Kid Pix, SimCity was a go-to for me during computer lab back in elementary school.
I'll be honest, I enjoyed myself a lot more here than in FFX. But either way you're doing great, keep it up.
i forgot ALL about sim city, a plethora of childhood memories just came back... thanks Jared!
Jared,
I was one of the people who rather happily walked on the bandwagon of trying my best to destroy you and your reputation during the major controversy last year.
The build up to the reveal was very good!
Good job Jared!
I was waiting for him to go into a long explanation of the card game for ten minutes just to say "BUT THIS ISN'T THE WEIRDEST SIM CITY GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
you are the first youtuber i have seen actually use the chapters feature to help us skip the ad. i love you jared!
LETS DUEL!!!!
I play my “nighclub” in defence mode and end my turn.
Let’s get projared his 1 million subs back, he deserves it.
WOW!
That IS a weird version of Sim city!
Super old school!
I waited too long to watch this one... impressive depth of research into the history of SimCity games, and the sight gags and comic timing here are gold.
That Magic Spoon ad made me laugh. "It's keto-friendly, gluten free, grain free, wheat free (which is already included in grain free), soy free..." So it's just shredded up cardboard?
Magic Spoon looks like something I’d get in a Boy Scouts magazine as an ad
Please.. I need more of this style of video. For real though, great job with everything! The presentation was so good!
