So, having binged the entire 90s cartoon series in the last few months, I just want to explain what they were probably going for with Cyclops and Storm. Storm is Claustrophobic, so having stages that are series of narrow tunnels that also restrict her ability to breathe make some sense.
And during I believe one of the first Morlock episodes, although I may be wrong on what episode, Cyclops has to go underground, or is taken underground and comments something to the effect of "I won't be much use underground, my power comes from sunlight" and having fallen down a wiki hole for marvel stuff the better part of two years ago, before more recent retcons, Cyclops' power manifested similar to superman's in the sense that his body absorbs sunlight/solar radiation, and concentrates it, before he releases it in the form of optic blasts. So sticking him underground in a mine where he can't recharge makes sense in that respect, though like the game, this virtually never comes up in the series otherwise. It would be pretty lame anyway to just be Cyclops without his optic blasts so I understand it entirely.

Sad that it wasn't mentioned, but the reason the music is so good is because of legendary composer Tim Follin, who allways went above and beyond composing his soundtrack regardless of the quality of the game. So a lot of kind of mediocre games end up with killer tunes. Often the music of the game becomes more famous than the game itself.
If anyone is curious, check out his work with pictionary for the nes, solstice or silver surfer. Haven't played any of them, but the ost is excellent.

    • @klop4228
      @klop4228 2 роки тому +11

I own Solstice. Haven't played much of it, but it seems to be (and I've heard it is) a decent enough game, surprisingly enough. Still an NES game (so kind of hard, kind of cryptic, and I don't think you can save), but I've heard good things.
Also, the title theme apparently takes up the majority of the cartridge space lol.

Read that it was one of those rushed out for the holiday season games. A bit of a shame since it could have been a decent game if it was given some more polish. It's not really that it's hard. It's just tedious. If they had some continues, a checkpoint system, more lives, and enemies did a little less damage it would have been a lot better.

Arcade is hooking them to the murderworld, reading their fears and making a world based on that, I think.
So, Storm and Cyclops are possibly claustrophobic (accurate to the comics, for Storm at least).
Wolverine could be coulrophobic (fear of clowns) and Gambit may be ludophobic (fear of games).
As for Spidey, maybe he's afraid of construction sites. Or, considering he appeared twice, he's actually afraid of Shocker.
Kidding aside, I think Spidey's levels weren't based on his fears because Arcade was specifically after the X-Men.
Arcade likely had to slap something together quickly in his case to stop him from interfering.

I was today years old when I found out Storm had a platformer level.
Only level I ever beat was Wolverine's because if I remember correctly if you kill enemies without claws they always drop hearts so it's easy to get to the boss with full health

After watching some of your archived streams of playing through this, this review seems way too concise. Like, it just can't ever accurately convey _how much effort_ went into beating this thing. I mean, I had this as a kid and everything you said was 100% correct and more. It is just one thing beating you down after another, until all enjoyment just evaporates and that first Spider-Man stage feels like a lifetime ago. But man, it was vindicating as hell to see _SOMEONE_ actually make it to the end of this sh**, especially that surprise "screw you!" normal Storm stage. Screw LJN. You are a _legend,_ dude. Really earned the "Pro" in ProJared with this playthrough 😁

LJN games are always a crapshoot. Sometimes you get a halfway decent game marred by some questionable moments. Other times you get an abomination wrapped in a plastic case.

"like a shameful conceit, like i had been bested"
if my last ps3 haddnt been bricked due to my negligence, id still have a save from dark souls from my first pyromancer, i had managed to get a black knight sword (rare drop) and the stats to wield it and pretty much nothing else, not even the bottomless box.
for some reason, the increase in my DPS lead me to believe that i could take on all those skeletons at firelink shrine.
not only did i do that but also beat pinwheel after two, "i bet i can make that jump" that amazing failed to end in my death.
however i did sit at the bonfire (with no lordvessel and therefore no warp) not a single necromancer killed.
i never did managed to get even halfway back up on that save, despite having beaten the game 7 times since then
