Right on. I'm putting the Skaggs Rack on this weekend. I've got the tail tidy, AXP skidplate, IMS tank, heel guard, disc guard, Comfort XL on the way, and the Baja Works windscreen on the shelf. I'll install all this stuff over the winter. Thanks for putting all this out there, really helps me out.
You are very welcome!
Actually John, the 2 longer spacers go in the rear. The shorter ones go in the front. That rear subframe actually points downward near the rear. I noticed in your videos the spacers on your bike are on wrong with all due respect. Love your videos...thank you
You are correct!
I bought a Crf450l because of you...thank you so much. Keep up the informative videos
@@donparrish5634 So it's all my fault you're saying. LOL. Thanks for watching Don!
Buying it tomorrow! Keep the videos coming!
You're going to love it. Drilling holes in your plastic, not so much. LOL.
Looks great!
Awesome content as always, John-thanks! Just ordered mine. I have some "rackless" Tusk saddlebags but the fender hooks don't get very good purchase and I'd rather lash my stuff down to something with bolts! Plus, this design braces the subframe and makes it even stronger. If people are worried about maintaining pristine plastics on their dual-sport, they might have purchased the wrong sort of bike ;)
All true.
Another great vid 👍
Think I've watched all of them now... 😥
Looking forward to the next one 👍
Very cool! I have a ton more just waiting to be edited together, just waiting for the snow storm cycle that traps me indoors for a day or two.
@@JohnTYoung awesome 👌
I don't even have a crf450L... your just very watchable 😅👍 and somehow got me keen to turn my 2019 wr450f into a adventure bike 😂 took it on my first decent road ride of 360km...
now changing two teeth down on the rear sprocket for lower revs on the highway, see how that goes...
and saving up for a 12.5L tank, seat concepts seat, and looks like I'll have to fab up my own rack as no one makes one...
Really loving your build👌 the little air compressor, scotts stabilizer and rekluse clutch look like really good bits of kit too 🤔😍🤑😅
The only thing I dont have to spend money on is the ecu as its already fully tunable with my phone, can switch on the fly and has heaps of power 👌
If your looking for more ideas for vids... Id be keen to hear what you use for security on the bike, more adventure rides and camping trips, what you pack for a over night trip and longer trips too? 😊👍
Cheers John 🤝
@@jonoj7666 I'll add those to the list!. Short answer on security is I park where I can see my bike or bring my luggage into my room with me. Mostly I don't worry about it. Tanks again for watching.
$45 before shipping and handling. That's how much a new rear fender costs before shipping and handling. I found out because I neglected to snap that hook at the rear into the slot when I marked my holes initially. Threw everything off. Oh, and I did not own a step drill bit so I got the pleasure of picking one up at the hardware store for $52. I am serious - $52. I turned a cheap easy 30 minute job into an expensive prolonged one. It's done, but what a nightmare.
Welcome to the world of DYI where saving money isn't a thing.
Cross threading is stronger than loc-tite! Lol
Waaaayyyyyyy
I used the Enduro rack and side utility racks from Precision Motorcycle Rack, I order my Seat Concepts seat foam and cover from them for my 2018 Kawasaki KLX250
Nice!
How often do you need to remove the seat? Once mods are done I imagine you just need to get at the air filter for cleaning. I can’t decide between the Tusk rack and the Skaggs. Love your videos!
Yup, as often as you change the air filter or mess with your battery. Thanks!
Hi John. In your later videos you've upgraded to the IMS gas tank and Seat Concepts seat, however, I recently tried that combination and I have interference between the rack and the back of the seat. Did you have to modify anything to make that work? Thanks for your advice! Matt
Hi Matthew. No, I don't recall having to change anything. Sorry.
:))"bike less than 200miles... poking holes in the damn thing already"
smooth job tho' !
And I never stopped. ;) Thanks for watching.
John would I be able to fit a 30 pack of Busch light on this rack ????
No. As a CRF450L owner you’re much to sophisticated to drink piss water. A case of Fat Tire however would fit perfect.
Have you got a video on your tail light mod?
I don't. It's just a Flatlands Tail Tidy and as I recall was super easy to install. Sorry.
John T. Young awesome. Thank you
You had me sold, too bad the rack is sold out🙃. Quick question, my 2023 CRF450RL is idling at 6mph, I installed an AIM ecu. Is that idle speed normal or should I turn it down?
It should idle at 1800 rpm. Not sure what speed that is given your gearing.
@@JohnTYoung thanks, I don’t have a tachometer, but I have stock gearing. How fast does your bike idle in first gear?
No idea.
@@JohnTYoung thanks for your reply.
I ordered one for my 450rl just now. Looks like I got the last one. Keep checking 👍
John, what do you think about the Remachined Chamfers version of this Skaggs rack? $25 just for looks? Still shouldn't have a cutie riding bitch on it?
- as the Harley guys would say. Us adventure riders are supposed to have more manners than that! The Remachined Chamfers version will really look good hauling groceries home.
I think I like the solid finish on the regular one better. But that's just me. Thanks for pointing it out!
Is there any place else to buy this rack? Love the design but the website says sold out and those guys will not respond to emails. If I had detailed measurements I would build my own as I have access to a laser and water jet. Love your videos and riding in your area.
