  • How well does Mosko Moto's Reckless 80 rackless pannier fit a CRF450L dual sport dirt bike? Pretty well it turns out. Now let's go camping.

    Just getting caught-up on your vids. Thanks! I got the Mosko 10L system for day rides. Haven't used it yet but it looks cool in the garage. Lol

      Nice. I thought of getting that system for the same reason... Maybe in the Spring. Thanks so much for watching!

    I've been running the Giant Loop Coyote on mine. I can't say I enjoy repacking them each morning but they sure ride well, I have them forward a bit because I put a 30 liter dry bag on top of my RotoPack gas can since I don't have the 3 gallon tank.

    • @JohnTYoung

      I like the Reckless 80 because it's solid and it has fuel pouches low, on the bottoms where I can stash an extra gallon of gas in 2 Fuel Friends cans. Just wish they hadn't cost so damn much.

      Yes exactly... the packing is the main reason Ill go with the Reckless. Im so tired of mounting and demounting simple saddle bags each day.

    Hey John, do you still have your r80 luggage? If so do you still recommend it AND is the 80 the way to go or do you wish you would have gone with the 40? Thanks

    • @JohnTYoung

      Still love this system. As for size, I've dropped the tail bag and sinched down the side dry bags and carried 20 or 30 liters worth of stuff just fine. Can't say that I could load 80 litters into the 40 and do the same.

    Great video, thanks. I’m tossing up between this and either the Backcountry or Scout panniers.
    Am I right to assume that this would be narrower than the Mosko pannier systems would be because they need pannier racks? I have the 40L duffel with beaver tail, so I could run their small scout panniers with the duffel...but if they Reckless 80 is narrower it might be better for me. It’s for a Suzuki dr650.

    • @JohnTYoung

      That's a great question Ronan. I'm not really sure though. I bought the reckless style cuz I didn't want to add a rack. Maybe Pete or Ashley from Mosko Moto could help you.

    I am trying to decide on Reckless 80 vs Reckless 40 (maybe adding the Stinger 22 to the 40) for my 450L. After using the 80 for awhile, are you still happy? Ever wished you went with the 40? What is your latest mounting choice? Thanks for the vids-very helpful!

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  4 роки тому +3

      I have been very happy with the 80, and maybe the only time I've wished it were smaller were for day trips. But even then I just use the Stinger by itself and have enough storage. Most trips I am very glad for the extra room of the 80, even if I don't use it. Plus, the 80's holsters do squeeze down smaller if need be. If I did not camp during my trips and I new I was going to be staying at hotels every night, then I would get the 40.

      @@JohnTYoung If I get the 80, with a stock exhaust, will I need 2 heat shields to keep the plastic from melting or will 1 shield with the stock shield suffice? Thanks again.

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  4 роки тому +1

      @@jrchain57 Both the 40 and the 80 use the same method for securing the luggage. I used 1 shield with he stock exhaust and still melted my plastic so you may have better luck with 2. The stock muffler with the cat gets REALLY hot. I hope you have better luck than I did, but if you don't, at least the plastic is cheap.

    I like the Reckless 80 - more space for solo rides. I'm wondering if some scaffolding can be fabricated to attach to the subframe that give more support for the Reckless system without interfering with rear wheel travel in the wheel well.

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  5 років тому +1

      It just so happens I have an Adventure Spec pannier for the CRF450L. I'm leaving this Monday for a solo ride of the COBDR and I'll let you know what I think of it afterwards. First impressions are, it's OK. Got a few design flaws however. Having said that, I've done the RImRocker Trail, Alpine Loop, and a tome of other overnight rides using nothing but the Reckless as is and have had zero issues with it. I don't believe it needs any scaffolding at all.

    How do you find it riding?
    I went a super lightweight generic setup... no one makes racks for my bike yet, so its super limited options... if that rides better than it looks 🤔 that would be a somuch better than roughing it super lightweight 😅👍

      It rides fantastic. Like it's part of the bike. Just remember to pack heavy stuff low. Tusk makes a rack for my bike, but I prefer this set up.

    Would the Reckless 80 sit better on the Honda CRF bikes with side racks (e.g. like Dirtracks)?
    I've seen the Reckless 80 leave quite a few marks and chips in the paint of my friend's Africa Twin without racks.
    Have you experienced the same problem?

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  3 роки тому

      No paint, no problem. They will dull the plastics, but they're cheap. I've tried the ADV Spec "racks" and didn't care for them.
