From an editing perspective, when watching this, I was just trying to think how it could be done, remembering the other recordings like TavenWebb's. (like CRT TV and stuff, plus being at an angle I was definitely expecting warping to take place) I had assumed that the variance in Mario color was just color correction to make the backgrounds all line up. When you started pulling out the AI neural networks and stuff, that's where you lost me LOL. Insane.

  • @Qflame3

Wow. Really impressive! As for it only including runs under 5 minutes, that seems like the right choice to me. If the Marios are more than a few seconds apart, they couldn't really be shown on the same screen. With only sub 5s, the maximum distance between Marios is only around 5 seconds.
I also think the input-focused method here is the best one moving forward. To ease the workload in the future, maybe runners could record their inputs and post them so that some runs don't need any additional work. For old runs or ones without input, maybe part of the process of determining their inputs could be automated. You guys already have a tool that can look at video of a run and track Mario decently, maybe it could produce a rough outline of the inputs required with some work. It could also theoretically cross reference with an emulator to verify them.
    Anyway, awesome project!!

Great thoughts Qflame! I have been exploring things along the same lines.. The game is just so well suited to this task, and the results are much better than any image processing could realistically be. I do want to return to the image processing (specifically for live applications!), but for offline things the TASing is much more ideal.
