I have the same washer my knob came off and the back part fell inside. I've been trying to figure out how to just pop off the top part to get to it. Can you help me?
I have a kenmore i hope this fixes mine.. i also seen too. In another viedo a person had to replace compression ring on the back of the flat piece..and separate veido back another fix of the timer instead of replacing it...put a tiny oring . seen 3 different fixes for a knob. But i hope this is all that is wrong bc this looks so easy . Thank you ill let you know how it goes
Thanks very much for posting this - totally helped in my moment of need! HOWEVER - DON'T USE THE WRENCH - one of the other comments here is completely correct - just turn the flat white ring under the knob to operate the washer until you can replace the knob.
I just fixed mine. The plate with the arrow on it didnt need to be replaced, just the knob. Also, for me, the new knob had a slightly different clip on it and it wouldnt hold the knob on the stem when pulling it out to start the washer. So I just took the clip from the old knob and put it on the new one and now it works!
STOP USING THE WRENCH (tools). JUST SPIN THE (flat) WHITE RING (with the arrow on it). No brainer. Until the new part arrives that is. Wayyyyy easier and probably will reduce any chance of further damage due to uneven pressure/torque forces.
I came here to say that in case no one else had. I've been turning the outer knob for weeks now until I got around to finding out how to fix it. Just push in hard and turn it. It can be stiff at times so a rubber gripper such as a jar opener might help (I haven't needed one yet).;
I love this video. I was looking for info on replacing that knob on a GE washer. Mine has the same problem. As an aside, you can spin the large inner knob without removing it. It's not the best solution, but it will you allow you to wash clothes until you replace the outer knob. And you will know what cycle you are on. Dude, you are not a douche! I can fix the shit out of any car but appliances stump me My bitch is about GE. Plastic teeth? The engineers are like "lets save money (versus metal components) and make people buy a 25 cent replacement for $5.00". Probably got bonuses for that idea. My parents, in 1973, bought a new Hotpoint washer and dryer. Still working to this day and they have never had any issues. Never. None.
unreal. some douche charged us about $100 8 years ago for this same thing. It has happend again, so i think i will go the route of ordering the part myself this time
You did Great, just leave the white ring with the arrow on the machine an use it to turn the timer instead of using that wrench, until the new knob arrives.
I am having the same issue where the knob spins. When I took the old knob out, teeth seemed to be fine. I still ordered a new knob from Amazon, but replacing didn't solve the problem. Could there be another issue causing it to spin?
I have a question my mom has the same washer. Here is the thing the knob is stuck in the off position. It will not pop out so that I can remove the knob I cannot see the clip at all. The knob and the timer dial spins it will not engage and click I can also move the knob and timer dial up and down. Do you know if I need to just replace the knob or would I have to replace both parts?
It's my Fabric Care & Signal knots that need replacing. MOD. GCWP1800DOWW. The knots pull off when I try and use them... please help! I can't afford a new dryer!
I think they give you a new plastic clip along with the knob if I remember right. The whole thing is like couple bucks so I would replace the whole thing .
Thanks I searched youtube and you had the exact machine as mine same worn part. 5 bucks and a couple of days the new knob arrived. Hardest part was dealing with the tiny plastic clip but I got it done thanks for making the video.
Here I am 5 years later checking my UA-cam account hoping it remembered the video I used to fix this part b/c the one I have started spinning just like it did 5 years ago! Fortunately the part is much easier to find....thank Amazon! I'll give you another view when it comes in! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@uzi4u182 WH01X10310 That's what I ordered from Amazon & it works. I think mine is a little extra worn, so sometimes it starts as I'm turning the knob, but it works!
So not a douche bag! Dude! This video helped me fixed my knob. I’m a renter and my land Lord is El Cheapo! They bought this same washer four - five years ago too! Gracias dude! 👍🏻
Great video (but)....and i am saying this in a humorous🤣🤣 way because its funny you being a man and not knowing your tools...it is called a "wrench" not a crescent wrench. A crescent wrench is an adjustable wrench, so it has no 1/2, 9/16 or like 3/4 marking because it is adjustable to fit all sizes!! A regular wrench will have these marking like 1/2, 9/16 on the wrench, which is specific to that one size and is not adjustable like a crescent wrench would be!! Great video though you did help me out and i appreciate it!!👀👍
Perfect! I found two broken pieces of plastic! JB weld on one and waiting for the new plastic knob to be delivered! Thanks for being a douche like myself!

nice video..i can appreciate anyone who's willing to call themselves a dooshbag (being a man i dont know or care how to spell that)the same guy who calls a box/open ended wrench a cresent wrench probably calls a slotted screwdriver a flathead .En Agape!
Very helpful. This was not my problem, but I could not figure out how to remove the knob. Now that I have the knob off I can replace or repair the timer.
there's an easier way to get the machine to start even when the selector knob is broken. Reach around the knob and grip two sides of the timer dial with your thumb and fingers. Rotate it by pressing in hard and turning. I've had to do this for years until I finally realized I needed a new knob and it was as easy as this video to replace!
Thanks dude!! I was halfway hoping I wouldn't have to order the part...oh well! Mine's been doing the spin thing for the past handful of months...I've been able to mash down on the disc thingy to get it to turn, so thankfully no wrenching here. I just had to order new gliders for the dryer b/c of incessant squealing. Guess I'll make another order for this.
my husband and i had same problem at first...while waiting for a expensive repair guy..you dont have to use a wrench..not a crescent wrench. period..the disk on back of knob that points to cycle does the work.knob just on off and to set cycle..you can turn it with two fingers set and pull out knob......just took apart and fixed the the cycle module myself....Angels ol man...
Thanks a million! I had figured out what part to order, but couldn't figure out how to get the old knob off. I couldn't find instructions for that anywhere. Like many things, it's easy once you know how!
That was really great, except it's the 2 knobs to the loft that have fallen off mine! The piece that sticks through the hole to snap on has fallen behind facia... can you help??
Thanks for showing how to replace that piece. At least I don't have to take apart the top part of the machine. This seems pretty easy, now to locate that dial. :)

You can also recut the worn down teeth with a sharp utility knife. You may have to recut the slot also to move it up just a little so the clip will fit back in the slot on the knob and the timer shaft
wow! great stuff. Just bought a used washer, pretty much the same one on your vid, hooked it all up and went to set the dial and it spun. Was really bummed out and decided to google the problem and went to your link first. Very useful video. We were able to get the knob off and ascertain all the other plastic crap is stripped on the timer. On our way out to see if we can score a scratch n dent for what less than it would cost for a new timer and labor.
Thank you! I am female, and your video made me feel comfortable enough to fix my washer knob, and I did it! Got the right knob on Amazon for just about four bucks! Thank you!
It's been a long time, but I think there was a notch on the knob part so that there was only one way it would go in and that made sure the arrow was pointing the right way
