Definitely depressing guess they'll never change. I went 10/10 in Best Picture. Not surprised by Greta Gerwig missing director I predicted that. However, I thought Alexander Payne had enough support (DGA & BAFTA) to make it in. As for the acting categories, I think you see with these nominations the strength of the SAG voting body within the Academy. That would explain the support for Nyad specifically with both Bening & Foster making it in & Sterling K. Brown (which was great). Margot Robbie's miss is perplexing since she was nominated everywhere, BAFTA, SAG, Critic's choice; she didn't miss anything. Definitely all over the place Austin I agree.

I'm glad Margot didn't get the nomination. I would have found it very difficult to live in a world where she got it for Barbie, and didn't get it for Babylon
Im still mind blown by Babylons reception. Critics usually soak that stuff right up and that movie is so amazing and entertaining. i have a terrible memory. I watched Killers of the Flower Moon a week ago and dont remember many scenes at all but i remember so many Babylon scenes. Margot and that rattlesnake scene is one of the greatest moments ive ever had in a theater. Best movie of that year.
I am confused by Barbie being in Adapted Screenplay. All of the other awards this season it was in original screenplay. Can someone explain how it works? Also I am surprised that Barbie didn’t get Hair and Makeup
They decided that since Barbie was based off existing media, even though the story wasn’t adapted from another story, it was still considered adapted by the Oscar’s. Many people disagree, but the Oscars are pretty consistent on this. Also, the makeup and hair guild tends to go from more prosthetic work in that category
Bradley Cooper definitely got some dirt on some high ranking people to get Maestro in there over Iron Claw. He was not letting that movie or Efron get one over him
every country can submit one movie for international feature. Japan submitted Perfect Days (and France didn't submit Anatomy of a Fall either), so Godzilla couldn't get nominated in this category.
Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.... bringing you a movie about how women are often overlooked in favor or men, due to patriarchy. @@NinthShinigami Suzume is just a hot mess. The story is all over the place, and it doesn't go anywhere. Elemental has interesting characters and an emotional story.
I like America Ferrera but her performance over a better choice like Rosamund Pike in Saltburn or Julianne Moore in May December is freaking insane man. I like her but Best Supporting Actress nominee? It's just as undeserving as Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere 😭
I would’ve include Rachel McAdams in Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret. I get why she’s there, because of her monologue and I’m sure her Critics Choice speech probably swoon the votes, but I would’ve taken out her and Emily Blunt (Which I know is a hot take) and put in McAdams and Pike. Ferrara was good in Barbie but not Oscar worthy.
Curtis won the same reason as DiCaprio won, a sort of oh let's remember to give them an award for their overall achievement in the business and not an award for actual best acting in a film that year@@goodial
Melton missing is no surprise here. Granted, he was great in May December. Gerwig missing in Director is not a shocker but happy she was nominated for Adapted Screenplay with Noah Bumbach. Margot Robbie missing in Best Actress is disappointing. Leonardo DiCaprio missing Best Actor was disappointing but at the same time not surprising.

5:21 You tell em Austin. The Oscar’s are literally the academy awards of film yet they cannot appreciate animated cinema. it’s so frustrating too because spider-verse took way more work than any other movie not only from this year but probably ever.
Annette Bemning may win because she swam a lot and that takes a lot of physical effort. Secondly they know Annette Benning is good in a lot of both good leadership roles even as a cheating wife, so Myad they feel she is trying to portray the inner grit and determination of the person without adding too much of her interpretive stances. Thirdly the character she is playing is a recent heroine not like Rustin, Oppenheimer, Maestro )even if these are competing in a different acting category. Myad represents the FEMALE American Spirit of the modern time. Plus Annette Benning plays all the tough roles but in Myad she is so respectful of the character she played that she wanted to give praise to the character she played that she just endure the physical challenge of swimming and all other matters of interpretative stance just remain subservient to that. The Academy must have felt she took the right approach.
Annette Benning being nominated over Margot Robbie reminds me of Jonathan Pryce from The Two Popes being nominated over Taran Egerton from Rocketman because both Egerton and Robbie got nominated at all precursors but still snubbed by the Academy.
I really thought Rosamund Pike was in for supporting. Disappointed about that. Also incredibly disappointed by the Bening nomination. Nyad was one of my least favorite movies of the year… overall I’m honestly not super impressed by the nominations this year.
Wtf 😂 Nominating Barbie and Maestro for best picture over May December, Fallen Leaves and The Iron Claw. Also No Charles Melton and William Dafoe but Ryan Gosling and Mark Ruffalo. Greta Gerwig didn't get snubbed, it's just that the other directors did it better and deserved it more. Only thing Barbie get snubbed in nominations for is Margot Robbie.

The Iron Claw and The Holdovers release this weekend here, so I'm looking forward to those even more now after you video!
and I'm sorry but I'm not going to take that Two Popes slander! I really liked that movie! :D
I'm also just glad that Past Lives and Godzilla got at least some love (they didn't get a lot of buzz awards-wise but got in!)
Yeah, no. I'm with you on America Ferrera. That was not an Oscar worthy performance. A whole, entire joke! (Not America, I mean the award nominations.)
Agreed she carried that entire movie imo.
The Rustin song snub is truly shocking.
I agree.
No iron claw...how sad
Pain
I think cause it was too recent. I think. Definitely worth some recognitions 👍
@@jakesws934 thanks for the explanation. I understand now.
Anatomy of a Fall 🥳🥳🥳
No lead actrress for Margot Robbie, but I was shocked when America Fererra got a nomination.
Neither should be nominated. Barbie was ass.
Where was the beekeeper for the Oscar’s this year
Two popes was awsome dude
Unpopular opinion: The Boy and The Heron should’ve gotten a nom for Original Score 👀
Bradley Cooper definitely got some dirt on some high ranking people to get Maestro in there over Iron Claw. He was not letting that movie or Efron get one over him
Yeah also they got Barbie over May December and Fallen Leaves.
No air no peaches
spider verse and barbie were the biggest snubs
What happen to Godzilla Minus One for best foreign film?
every country can submit one movie for international feature. Japan submitted Perfect Days (and France didn't submit Anatomy of a Fall either), so Godzilla couldn't get nominated in this category.
Well done Nyad.
Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.... bringing you a movie about how women are often overlooked in favor or men, due to patriarchy. The film goes on to gross over a billion dollars at the box office, biggest movie of the year. What does the Academy do? Nominate Ryan Gosling for an Oscar and ignore the two women who did all the work to make it happen.
I just.... is this SNL? Feels like satire.
Barbie was shit. Open your eyes already. The only good part about Barbie was Gosling and even he couldn't carry that dog turd of a movie.
Zone Of Interest did really well then to not get Best Score when it’s FAR better then Indiana Jones score is just tragic
Did he just say “I should have seen that coming” when Robert Downy Jr. was nominated? Really? How could you not see that coming 🤦♂️ He most likely going to win.
Yeah no shit
Any other insanely obvious statements? Dude I track this stuff for months, how would I not know that?
@@AustinBurke Sorry it wasn’t obvious to me that you were being sarcastic. Although your ‘10 Best Films of 2023’ video was one I recently watched so I probably wasn’t shocked when I heard another shitty movie take 😏
Alright tough guy who can’t seem to understand sarcasm, what was your top 10? Let’s compare notes.
Some of these are definitely baffling.... The Academy doesn't reflect my thoughts a lot these days it seems.
I don’t think they reflect a lot of people’s to be honest. Not animation fans, not cinephiles or movie fans in general, someone said it on here best, a industry circle jerk
@@NinthShinigami it's an industry awards. What do you expect? Lol
And movie fans loved some of these movies. Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, Zone of Interest, Past Lives, and American Fiction were nominated and cinephiles loved these micies
@@NinthShinigami And most of all:Horror fans, the genre that almost never get any nomination
First year that I've only 1 best picture nomination
Then you should watch more films.

Oppenheimer Cillian Murphy ❤️
I loved The Two Popes!
7:28 GODZILAAAAAAA!!!!!
ゴジラ最高!!!!!!
The pain I have for Charles Melton's snubbed. Oh dear lord, well he did a great job in May December. The Academy doesn't deserve him 😢
I was very much rooting for Melton but that category was absolutely stacked, however choosing Ferrera ahead of Julianne Moore feels criminal
All the other 5 are better than him.
@@kassiogomes8498 No! Melton or Dafoe are much better than Sterling crap
@@dariussalepetru6770 sterling is hilarious in American Fiction. He did a great job.
The animation category could’ve been worse. It’s a mostly solid lineup imo, minus Elemental 😭 Suzume got ROBBED there imo. At least Golden Globes nominated Suzume, and at least it’s not Wish. Elemental was solid, but Suzume was phenomenal imo. Knew the Academy wasn’t even gonna acknowledge The First Slam Dunk too. Now, it’s gotta be either Spider-Verse or The Boy and The Heron. I’m rooting for either or. And ofc, we see neither get nominated for best picture 🙄 not even for best score dude, WTH.
Dial of Destiny’s score was like the one thing I loved about that film so cool for John Williams, he is the GOAT, but man, Pembertin and Hisaishi went all out with their scores. The legend has 5 already, the other legend has 0, a nom for both isn’t asking much 😭 but I get it, the Academy doesn’t like or respect animation.
Elemental is great. What are you talking about.
@@kassiogomes8498 not imo. I thought it was solid. I’ve seen Pixar do better, and I think Suzume, The First Slam Dunk, TMNT, and Blue Giant were all better films. Recommend watching them if you haven’t yet 👌
@@NinthShinigami I have seen all these movies except for Blue Giant. And Elemental still better than them. It's a marvelous achievement. It's beautiful, it's funny, the design of the characters is just exceptional and the story is relatable and just lovely.
@@kassiogomes8498 nah I gotta disagree lmaoo, I respect your opinion tho. I thought Elemental was just ok, and I can’t say much about it, whereas these other films I can go on and on about what I loved of each. We just gotta agree to disagree 🤝 I would say Slam Dunk is more of an achievement, an animated sports film, takes itself seriously like a drama, let’s it’s characters feel real, I see way more to praise in Slam Dunk and Suzume than Elemental
Jamie Lee Curtis should never have won, but she was way better than America Ferrera
@@teamrainbow7674your comment is contradictory
I think Jamie Lee Curtis as a nom was okay, the win was not right though
Curtis won the same reason as DiCaprio won, a sort of oh let's remember to give them an award for their overall achievement in the business and not an award for actual best acting in a film that year@@goodial
The Iron Claw was soo soo good!!! Zac Efron was robbed!
Don't Worry Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem 2 Oscar From Best Animated Feature In 2028
The Academy will never learn
I remember The Two Popes. It's an amazing movie.
I told u about America Ferrara and sterling k brown, I am pissed by nyad and maestro getting nomination, they snubbed leo 👎
I am fine
Melton missing is no surprise here. Granted, he was great in May December. Gerwig missing in Director is not a shocker but happy she was nominated for Adapted Screenplay with Noah Bumbach. Margot Robbie missing in Best Actress is disappointing. Leonardo DiCaprio missing Best Actor was disappointing but at the same time not surprising.
Happiest Surprises:
- Ruffalo getting in
- America Ferrara!
-Perfect Days in international film
- The Creator???
Saddest Snubs:
- No Saltburn
- no Priscilla
- No Iron Claw
- No Greta Gerwig
- No Alexander Payne
Your taste in movies is bad.
@@KTK44 lmao whatever you say 🤷🏽♂️
Don’t listen to this troll

You tell em Austin. The Oscar’s are literally the academy awards of film yet they cannot appreciate animated cinema. it’s so frustrating too because spider-verse took way more work than any other movie not only from this year but probably ever.
America Whatsherface nominated for supporting actress and Barbie nominated for best picture? Give me a break. This is ridiculous.
Grow up
NYAD NYAD NYAD LOLLL.. No Andrew Scott, Charles Melton...
The devastation of no Greta Lee or Celine Song
I won't take the Two Popes slander, Austin. That is a really sharply written film with great performances.
I’m falling asleep just thinking about it, I’m sorry 😭
Agreed. Great film.
@@AustinBurke haha you're all good
Annette Benning being nominated over Margot Robbie reminds me of Jonathan Pryce from The Two Popes being nominated over Taran Egerton from Rocketman because both Egerton and Robbie got nominated at all precursors but still snubbed by the Academy.
I’m more mad that Air didn’t get a single nomination
I'm confused. I strongly thought America Ferera was the front runner for the razzies...
Agreed. Had to sit through Barbie, a horrible and boring movie, but the part with her speach was when I totally zoned out.
I really thought Rosamund Pike was in for supporting. Disappointed about that. Also incredibly disappointed by the Bening nomination. Nyad was one of my least favorite movies of the year… overall I’m honestly not super impressed by the nominations this year.
if paul giamatti not going to win the oscar then i am not interested already.... aahh men he deserves that 😵💫😓
Wtf 😂 Nominating Barbie and Maestro for best picture over May December, Fallen Leaves and The Iron Claw.
Annette Bening over Margot Robbie? Hell yes. Better actress, better film, better performance. Simple as that.
No!
At this point, any time anyone makes an argument that concludes with “simple as that”, I think it’s safe to assume that person doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
As a Spider-Man and Barbie fan my disappointment is immeasurable day is ruined
I knew Past Lives would go largely overlooked but it still hurts
At least it gotten nominated for Best Picture.
America and ryan getting nominations is insane. Margot robbie is a far more deserving candidate. Im also bummed the dua lipa song didn't get nominated.
Nothing about Barbie should have been nominated.
Nyad is one of my favorite movies of 2023. I was not only not bored, I think the movie is compelling from the first frame to the last. A big part is because the acting and the focus on obsession.
