"Poor Things" winning four Oscars including Emma Stone for Best Actress shows that justice does exist in the movie industry at times. So does Godzilla winning Visual Effects.
That's like saying any popular good director should win just because they who they are. That's bias. They should give it to the best film no matter who made it. And spider verse was better
@@joshuagregoire9504 I agree. You idiot. The only issue with that is that spider verse was a part one middle chapter of a trilogy. I am Japanese 日本人です We celebrate 2 wins for the first time in 15 years (since "Departures" and "The House of Small Cubes" in 2008) Most of you must be wondering why "Godzilla Minus One" was not the Japanese submition of International film. "Godzilla Minus One" was not that successful in Japan for a Godzilla film, and director Takashi Yamazaki is like Japanese Michael Bay, who started his career as a VFX guy. On the other hand, everyone thought famous Wim Wender's film was more Oscar-like especially after it won Cannes for the best actor. This is why it was a huge surprise that "Godzilla Minus One" was very successful both commercially and critically overseas. At Japanese Academy awards of the last week, which nobody even in Japan cares, "Godzilla" sweeped 8 categories including the best picture, while "Perfect Days" got 2 wins for the best director and best actor. But it was of course too late for the Oscar international film. In Japan, every one predicted "Godzilla" and "The Boy and the Heron" win Producer Toshio Suzuki just revealed at a press conference that even though Hayao Miyazaki was pretending he did not care about the awards, he was waiting at his atelier the good news, Ghibli staff was watching the show and started to clap as soon as they heard the "The" of "The Boy and the Heron", And Suzuki ordered 3 Oscar statue for himself, Miyazaki, and to show off. Also, everyone, do not forget that today is March 11th, 13 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Oppenheimer was my favorite film of the year. But I didn't think it was that much of a shock that it would sweep in those categories. So my favorite win of the night, was actually The Zone of Interest winning for Sound. I actually saw it with my Dad yesterday, just a few hours before the ceremony and it was absolutely incredible. The use of sound design in that movie was so effective and told the story and when it comes to sound design in film, it has to be in my top 10 best uses of sound design I've seen, let alone heard. It's especially novel to see a personal favorite win over the actual favorite one to win. It's absolutely incredible to see a film that had purpose in every sound it made, to create such a disturbing atmosphere win an Oscar and it's even more novel since I saw it the same day, so seeing it win, just a few hours after I saw it, is amazing.
Can we use this comment as a Ryan Gosling like button. Dude CRUSHED it! Truly one of the most talented, funny and entertaining people in the entire entertainment business.

The last time I can remember was Parasite’s sweep at the Oscars.
Cillian Murphy winning an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer was my favourite Academy Award win ever. 🏆 And the fact he won alongside Christopher Nolan after 20 years of making films together. Just perfect. 👌 I’m so thrilled Oppenheimer got 7 awards tonight. Absolutely deserving. 👏
They could give it to The Boy and the Heron because Spiderman is in two parts (like Dune). So, voters probably wanted to recognize Miyazaki for his career, knowing Spiderman could win in Part 2.
The only issue is that they still recognized Dune in other categories, which is something they'll never ever do for an animated or superhero movie no matter how deserving it was of being nominated in more than the one category it's guaranteed to get a nomination in. Hopefully by Beyond they'll finally grow some sense and let it and other animated movies get nominated for Best Picture, Screenplay, soundtrack, original song, and every other category they deserve to be nominated in, hell, maybe they'll even add a "best voice acting" category but that'll probably never happen.
Is it just me or the show is actually a bit faster? And I mean that as a good thing because it didn't feel rushed nor it did feel dragged either, all the winners have given a solid time for their acceptance speech. It was probably the only time where I didn't check my watch to see how long the show has been going. This year is easily a great ceremony especially giving back the traditions of five actors introducing each of the nominees 🙌
Much much MUCH less cringe and skits. I don’t consider Christopher Nolan as the GOAT director as other younger people do. I’m more of a Scorsese/Tarantino/Spielberg/Zemeckis fan. But after seeing Killers of the Flower Moon which I found to be a fine movie, I personally was rooting for Nolan to beat Scorsese in this year’s Oscars. I think Scorsese is still the better director but Oppenheimer is a better film than Killers of the Flower Moon. Not by much but it’s still better. I knew it was going to be a showdown between those two films but it was pretty predictable with the Vegas odds that Oppenheimer was the prohibitive favorite to win and it did. I’ve seen Oppenheimer three times and Flower Moon once. Neither one are movies I’d want to rewatch since they’re about 30 to 60 minutes too long. Congratulations to Christopher Nolan. Been watching him since 2002 ever since I rented Memento (2000) and thought the backwards narrative was very creative from a man directing his second ever film. I’m a supporter for every person who gives us great films. And I knew Marty and Chris are fans of each other’s work. I know Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas, and De Palma are all very good friends who support each other’s work. And yes to Cillian Murphy and our Tony Stark! I heard from people who saw Oppenheimer early said that RDJ was going to win an Oscar for it. After I saw it, I agreed. But I always knew Robert Downey Jr. can act since he was nominated for Best Actor in Chaplin (1992). It was his troubled past with drugs that kept him away from getting starring roles. When he was cast to be Iron Man, that was still a risky move. Tom Cruise was the first choice but he was going through some weird stuff himself jumping on couches during Oprah and then calling Matt Lauer glib. Going back to Cillian Murphy, I knew after I saw Oppenheimer three times that Cillian was going to win for Best Actor. He’s a fantastic actor since 28 Days Later but specifically for Peaky Blinders on Netflix. He’s the man to me. Whatever Oppenheimer won, it was well deserved. It’s Chris Nolan’s 2nd best movie behind The Dark Knight. And big congratulations to Godzilla Minus One. That’s another movie I don’t care to rewatch. It’s a fairly depressing movie about a scared kamikaze pilot going through PTSD. I think it’s the best Godzilla movie ever made but it’s not something I’m dying to rewatch over and over. I’m a Back to the Future/Bill & Ted guy. I like the dumb time travel comedies. I’m a little disappointed that Flower Moon did not win a single Oscar and that Across the Spider-Verse failed to win best animated film. But the latter is very much a mainstream movie like Top Gun: Maverick was a year before which only won 1 Oscar, and the Oscar voters don’t always go with the popular choices. They want to reward the artsy, esoteric ones too. I’m not mad at Emma Stone for winning it. She’s a cool chick. That’s her second Oscar won, her first came from La La Land. My favorite chick flick ever is Easy A (2010). I’m very familiar with Emma’s work since I saw her in Superbad (2007). I just feel bad for Lily. She probably deserved it more the same way Mickey Rourke deserved it more for The Wrestler (2008) than Sean Pean for Milk (2008) but Emma has already a great reputation with the movie critics. Overall, it was generally predictable. Nolan, Murphy, and Downey Jr. winning an Oscar were long overdue. Time for Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise to finally win an Oscar if Short Round/Data won it. BTW, not really mad that Robert Downey Jr. snubbed Ke Huy Quan. There was probably a million things crossing RDJ’s mind at that moment including thinking what he’s going to say and who he’s going to thank. It’s cool. And I don’t think Ke is the type of person to be offended by it. They later hugged backstage and took a group selfie. Short Round and Tony Stark will be fine!
Wonderful Academy ceremony, at long last some Oscars for Nolan /genius, Nolan fans, we couldn't be happier !! Austin , hats off to you, this is the best reaction video I've ever seen !!!!!
This years Oscar’s were so fun! I feel like there were no big surprises, but all the winners felt satisfying. Ryan Goslings performance was awesome & that bit he did with Emily Blunt was hilarious. All around a great night for movie fans!!! Edit: my only Gripe was Jimmy Kimmel was a really uninspired host & presenting the awards took too long
BAFTA actually predicted pretty much all wins except best VFX. This is a great redemption for them. I mean last year was horrible for them. They used to be very good in predicting acting categories but last year they didn't predicted even 1 acting category right but this year they predicted all 4 even Critics Choice and SAG got 1 wrong each. Globes also got all 4 right but only because they split the lead acting categories
Once again it was proven that if an animated feature wins BAFTA and loses Annie award, it never loses OSCAR これで「BAFTA受賞しアニー賞受賞しなかった作品はすべてアカデミー賞をとる」というジンクスは守られた
I hope it's better than spirited away. It's probably my least popular film opinion, but that movie is overrated as hell. Now Princess Mononoke is a masterpiece.
@@Brandon_4272 How is it deep? Genuinely curious. It's felt mostly like surface level wonder both times I watched it. The soundtrack and animation is top notch, but I've never been grabbed by the characters or plot.
I’m soooo glad that Oppenheimer won big!! I’m glad that Godzilla Minus One won best visual effects. I’m sad that they forgot Lance Reddick from John Wick and Akira Toriyama creator of Dragon Ball for the “In Memoriam” section. To be fair, Akira Toriyama died pretty recently, so maybe they’ll add him next year(hopefully).
The only movie I would have been emotionally devastated by an upset with would have been Godzilla. The fact that it took the award gives me hope for the future of cinema!
It didn't go 30 minutes over. It was scheduled for 3 1/2 hours, followed by a new episode of Abbot Elementary. I was shocked it acually ended on time. I can't remember the last time that happened.
Your predictions that I shared with others (and I said "Austin Burke predicts...") was that Oppenheimer was "a fix," that Cillian Murphy would snag Best Actor, and that Christopher Nolan would score snag Best Director were 100% right. I chose those because your level of confidence in those winning was unshakeable.
Sorry not sorry but Boy and the Heron deserves the win. Spiderverse was amazing and pushed the envelope but boy and the heron is so classical in its animation and personally I think it is one of his best works top 5 for sure XD.
Austin, there’s no doubt that “Poor Things” was number 2, if “Oppenheimer” had not have won Best Picture. Even the studio behind “Poor Things” knew that. That’s why they put out those ads for “Poor Things”, during voting, that said: “Defy Expectations”. 💯
Living in the uk I can’t say I’m willing to stay up to 4 in the noting to watch the Oscars but this is a very fun way rather than just finding out the winners lol
My 3 wishes of Nolan/Stone/Godzilla happened and everything else was gravy . Kimmel was fine but not amazing . I ended up liking them bringing back the old winners to intro the nominees in acting . Finally the Ukraine speech for doc was very powerful .
I had poor things predicted to win makeup and hairstyling for a while, ignoring everyone who predicted maestro. So you should have seen my face when poor things won. You should have also seen my face when the boy and the heron won against spider-verse.
Austin, I think last year or the year before on Halloween, A horror tv show was released. Kind of like black mirror but horror. About 6 episodes. It was a masterpiece!! I can't remember the title. Can someone respond if they know the series I'm talking about??😢 thanks
After 96 years I’m so disappointed that no one Native American has been honored at the Oscar’s at all.Congrats Emma stone she’s a national treasure (might have to watch poor things now) but am I the only one who wanted it to be Lily Gladstone like the Oscar’s are so racist against Native American actresses like wtf.
The Academy hates animated sequels unless it’s Toy Story. That’s why Spiderverse lost. Toy Story 3 and 4 are the only animated sequels to win Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Hopefully, Beyond the Spiderverse will do better and win.

Thanks for the highlights. Was guna stay up and watch it but needed my sleep 😬😬finished at 3am in the UK
🤝🏻👌🏻🔥
Wonderful Academy ceremony, at long last some Oscars for Nolan /genius, Nolan fans, we couldn't be happier !! Austin , hats off to you, this is the best reaction video I've ever seen !!!!!
This years Oscar’s were so fun! I feel like there were no big surprises, but all the winners felt satisfying. Ryan Goslings performance was awesome & that bit he did with Emily Blunt was hilarious. All around a great night for movie fans!!!
Edit: my only Gripe was Jimmy Kimmel was a really uninspired host & presenting the awards took too long
The Oscars was basically BAFTAS 2.0
(18 Wins at the BAFTAS went on to win Oscars!)
Bingo
This is for the first time since 2021 Oscars
A+ video!
Awesome video, very cool that your favorite film also won Best Picture!
The Zone of Interest winning Sound was not only the most deserved award of the night, but one of the most inspiring wins the Academy has ever done
Austin. how many cups of coffee did you have before the show. i’m cracking up watching this.
Oppenheimer and poor things were my top 2 of the BPs i saw. I'm glad both of them won several awards
Godzilla winning Best VFX is the only thing that matters from the Oscars this year
BAFTA actually predicted pretty much all wins except best VFX.
Once again it was proven that if an animated feature wins BAFTA and loses Annie award, it never loses OSCAR
これで「BAFTA受賞しアニー賞受賞しなかった作品はすべてアカデミー賞をとる」というジンクスは守られた
The only exception is Zootopia.
The Boy and the Heron is by far Miyazakis best film since Spirited Away and had the much more mature story than spiderverse, so I deserved the win
I hope it's better than spirited away. It's probably my least popular film opinion, but that movie is overrated as hell. Now
Princess Mononoke is a masterpiece.
@@Szt1998 Spirited Away is one of the deepest animated films ever made, A Masterpiece but Mononoke is a masterpiece as well
@@Brandon_4272 How is it deep? Genuinely curious. It's felt mostly like surface level wonder both times I watched it. The soundtrack and animation is top notch, but I've never been grabbed by the characters or plot.
Justice has been done Emma Stone the Poor Thing the best actress this Decade loved her in Superbad and now 2 count them Oscars ! WTG
My top 3 movies Poor Things Oppenheimer the Holdovers - Best award Bella Baxter - Also love Christopher Nolan so nice to see his success.
I love this chaotic Austin! So fun and funny.
Ryan Gosling nearly stole the night from Oppenheimer, truly that guy was on fire ALL night
"Isn't it past your jail time?"
Has got be the best joke that Kimmel delivered at the Oscars, love his shade on Trump 😂
Not really it was just dumb. He should have just left it instead of adding his reply.
One of my favorite reactions every year 😂
10:49 So true, it was the only reason I cared about the Oscars this year... seriously they deserved it (and much more honestly!)
This might be the best Oscars ceremony I’ve seen since I started watching yearly in 2018
Your predictions that I shared with others (and I said "Austin Burke predicts...") was that Oppenheimer was "a fix," that Cillian Murphy would snag Best Actor, and that Christopher Nolan would score snag Best Director were 100% right.
I chose those because your level of confidence in those winning was unshakeable.
The Godzilla win also elicited the biggest response from me I think and Zone of Interest for sound 🎉
THE BOY AND THE HERON!!!!!
Sorry not sorry but Boy and the Heron deserves the win. Spiderverse was amazing and pushed the envelope but boy and the heron is so classical in its animation and personally I think it is one of his best works top 5 for sure XD.
John Cena (that's all I need to say)
I didn't see him
Kalishi that’s awesome ad!!!
“Thank god I’m not a failure, well I am a failure but I’m not *completely* a failure”- Austin Burke 2024
Austin, there’s no doubt that “Poor Things” was number 2, if “Oppenheimer” had not have won Best Picture. Even the studio behind “Poor Things” knew that. That’s why they put out those ads for “Poor Things”, during voting, that said: “Defy Expectations”. 💯
Cillian 😢 I cried all my tears and have no voice no more 😂
Nah man, the boy and the heron should have won.
Last year SAG 4/4to oscar
Now BAFTA 4/4 to oscar
Anyways So beautiful this year oscar and your reactions 🤣😘❤️🥰🥰
WILD!
Living in the uk I can’t say I’m willing to stay up to 4 in the noting to watch the Oscars but this is a very fun way rather than just finding out the winners lol
18:31 Austin, the 2004 Oscar’s say otherwise
Only happy for the zone of interest and Anatomy of a fall wins. And also The boy and the heron
Godzilla win was awesome 😂
Went 15-7 with my Oscar picks tonight Austin
17-6 should’ve had more faith in Poor things.
Im just happy for Nolan.
Me too!
Kalshi looks fun. I hope it comes to Canada.
Honestly still gutted Suzume didn't have a nomination
i didnt watch the oscars and i can still safely say that SOMETHING got snubbed
the watchable part starts at 1:24 and ends at 2:22
I don’t know if I’m competent in the brain yet... I’m 43.
...uh oh
1:53 I feel every bit of your pain. 😢
So much pain
But The Boy and The Heron Has an Much Better End then Spidey 2 ✌️
I know, but is not Miyazaki's best film
I enjoy Across the Spider-Verse more, because is my favorite animated movie of 2023
Austin is Dune it again
7:51 😂😂
By far the best produced Oscar’s I can remember
Im definitely one of the few people that dont get the hype on Oppenheimer. I thought it was quite boring. The Scorsese movie was muxh better
Yet another blow for Sony not winning with Across the Universe. They take another "L" along with the failed Madame Web. Smh
Olaf cameo at 17:34 😂
So Maestro and Killers walked away empty-handed. Damn
Past Lives as well 🤣
After 96 years I’m so disappointed that no one Native American has been honored at the Oscar’s at all.Congrats Emma stone she’s a national treasure (might have to watch poor things now) but am I the only one who wanted it to be Lily Gladstone like the Oscar’s are so racist against Native American actresses like wtf.
Yes but one must understand who makes up the oscar group.
Eh
Creator, Maestro and Killers done dirty
Past Lives as well
You forgot about who won Best Original Song in the video!
Ke hun quay: can I shake your hands As a fellow winner?
Rdj: No
Oppenheimer deserved all its Oscar wins it was that great of a movie it was a masterpiece
Poor things, best 2023 movie❤
2:01 That goddamn cry is both hilarious and relatable cause that was me when Spiderverse lost 😂
Killers of the Flower Moon was this years Banshees 😔
or The Irishman another Scorsese movie
10 noms, 0 wins
@@dariussalepetru6770 I didn’t know the Irishman didn’t get anything
Great show
I think Al Pacino had "Insomnia" 😊
The Academy hates animated sequels unless it’s Toy Story. That’s why Spiderverse lost. Toy Story 3 and 4 are the only animated sequels to win Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Hopefully, Beyond the Spiderverse will do better and win.
its not responsible to promote gambling and try to absolve your guilt by just half assedly tacking on “please bet responsibly” at the end of your plug.
Barbie completely shut out 😂, poor things won technical awards, and oppenheimer all major categories
Barbie won 1 award for Song
I am glad the awards season is over
Why did you have to pick Spider-Man
You know Bradley Cooper went in the bathroom and cried last night.
Damn i was Righhttt that Poor Things won 4 ,barbie 1, holdovers 1,
I predict Oppenheimer won 8, but it won 7, the missing one is Best sound , lost to Zone of Interest ,
Maestro and Killers of the Flower moon empty handed
Bravo! 👏🏻😊
respectfully, 7 of 13 is not exactly a SWEEP but a great night - worthy winners tonight - decent show except for in memoriam catastrophe - let's hire John Mulaney as host!
Bring back Harrison Ford! At least he would say all the nominations .
