Fun fact: Hayao Miyazaki becomes the first person in Oscars history to have won an Honorary Oscar both before and after a competitive Oscar. His Honorary win was in 2014, with SPIRITED AWAY (2002) and THE BOY AND THE HERON (2023) being his competitive wins. He is also one of only 7 people to win competitively after the Honorary (for Lifetime Achievement) as well (after Cecil B. DeMille, Charlie Chaplin, Henry Fonda, Paul Newman, Ennio Morricone, and Spike Lee).
And thats not surprising at all.. Miyazaki is a genius! His creative imagination is beyond measurable. And that's proven with all his works. Glad he won, again! Well deserved!
I think Lily will get more opportunities but Sandra will continue to be in European/foreign films which never win acting awards at the Oscars unfortunately
I never switched Gladstone to Emma. Got 21/23 on Golderby. I knew Poor Things was #2. The big issue sometimes with people predicting is they get too reactionary with everything, in addition they tend to think that just because Baftas did bad last year it means it wouldn't do well this year. Every year is different. Facts are Poor Things won Venice, did amazing at Bafta, was surging at the box office. The momentum was happening.
8:05 I also believed Cillian Murphy would be number one to win the Oscar back in July when Oppenheimer came out. The performance was just too monumental for it to be anyone else but Cillian
can we please, for the love of god, stop letting ancient people announce best picture?? all the love and respect to pacino but fucking hell, what a sour note to end the night on. the whole ceremony went pretty damn smoothly up until that point.
Between the La La Land/Moonlight fiasco, Pacino this year and Liza Minnelli barely being lucid enough to read the winner when CODA won, it's just a painfully awkward way to end the ceremony
@@ClassicalMusic2002 exactly!! i know the academy like to give people their flowers by having icons announce them to create this 'special' moment, but those moments clearly don't work. we've seen it enough times now to know that it would be 10x better to just have the host or the previous winners announce the bp prize.
@@filmblooms Honestly there are enough legendary actors/actresses/directors out there that are still very "with it" and would make fine presenters! Spielberg would have been a great pick, Scorsese is a good choice, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Jodie Foster, etc.
I love the excuse they gave, saying "oh we intended for that to happen, cause we realized how long the show was running and wanted to wrap it up." That's what you're gonna say, cause it looked pretty unplanned to me when I was watching it at a party I was helping out on for a festival group.
I’m soooo glad Oppenheimer won big!! My favorite movie of 2023! I’m soooo glad Godzilla: Minus One won best visual effects! It’s my 2nd favorite movie of 2023. I’m sad that they forgot to add Lance Reddick from John Wick and Akira Toriyama(creator of Dragon Ball) to the “In Memoriam” section. To be fair, Toriyama’s death was recent, so maybe they didn’t have time to add him in. Hopefully! They’ll add him to next years “In Memoriam” segment. Forgetting Lance Riddick was just wrong though.
Sandra Huller really deserved the Best Actress win but I knew they weren’t going to give it to her. Emma and Lily both turned in unique performances so I’m glad one of them won if they weren’t gonna give it to Huller.
I 100% agree. I enjoyed that they brought out the past winners in the acting categories, but why the hell did they not show clips of the performances?!?! Drives me NUTS!
Scorsese has been making the same kind of movies all these years; so predictable and long. There are many younger directors, especially from Europe who have newer and better approaches in their films. Scorsese should retire now like Spielberg.
@@rl8259 I disagree with you re. West Side Story. It was a flop. Personally, I didn't like his approach. It lacked the depth, thrill and emotions drawn from the actors compared to the original.
Outside of the upset with Actress, not many surprises this year and it didn't help that I followed BAFTA and SAG, where the wins usually match up with the Oscars basically. And in this case, it did.
Highlight of the night definitely the I’m just Ken performance Messi the dog and the shade towards Madame web 🤣🤣🤣 and Hayao Miyazaki winning his second Oscar in over 20 years since spirited away
I'm curious, why do you want to see clips? I get it for those who are unfamiliar with the actors'/filmmakers' material but you seem familiar with them.
I find it hilarious tt 99% o pundits/experts r so totally blindsided by SAG, they switch camp immediately when Lily wins SAG! 😂 Its Best Leading Actress, not Best Missing most o the times Actress!!
So I know awards season is over, but can you do one on changing the Best Actress winners? Some people think Lily should have won, while I and so many people think Emma winning is S tier? 😊
I wish you were the one presenting Annette for Nyad
Fun Fact : Oppenheimer is the first film without a festival release to get a Best Picture win since The Departed
The most box office since The Return of the King

The Annette win was so shocking
We all got Nyaded.

Hope Lily gets more prestigious opportunities in the future and I also hope Sandra starts becoming more popular in the states

nyad best picture lets go!
😂
You're real for that 'I feel like shit all the time' comment after Jennifer Lame's win. I feel you
When you say I saw some Colman Domingos, it just sounds like your bird watching.
"Wait, why did he announce it like that" Thats exactly how I felt haha!
the way he just turned pink when im just ken started
😂
Miyazaki with 2 oscar wins without attending???
GOAT!

This video wasn't boring man!
I first saw your Oppenheimer review, way back when and now Im back!
Subbed ❤

Al pacino is so drunk
I think he’s always just been like that
Can’t wait for drunkie to scream when Denis is snubbed for Aaron Sorkin next year
This video is not boring! You always say that 🤣
What has Scorsese done to the academy?
I'm wondering the same thing because DAMN they don't like him! This is his *third* film to get 10 nominations and go home empty handed. That's insane!
Made his movies way too long and subtle

I wish Barbie won for production design
Not Production Design! Costume Design I believe
Thought RDJ gave a pretty solid speech, pretty shitty way to just right off something like that dude but whatever
How could you drop the Stone. This is bigger than the Barbie snubs😜
ngl this Oscar year was kinda boring im still feeling nostalgic from all the everything all at once Oscar memories
also, sooooo glad boy and the heron won!!!! unfortunately, Spiderverse 2 just wasn't as good as the first one, in my opinion
The Madame web references were annoying. Not even eligible for this year and I thought the movie was decent to good.
