    Got to see him perform live in high school, probably one of the most powerful people I’ve ever heard speak.

    What a wildly powerful poem. My dad has been an 8th grade English teacher for 30 years and more recently juniors in a public high school, I can't help but wonder if he ever feels or thinks anything like this. He talks often about how much he hates the fact that he mostly has to teach only what could be on the next state test.

    I heard this poem years ago when watching Def Jam poetry, and when I say I swear I think about it at least once a week. The day I heard a statistic that said 47% of people didn’t know what the holocaust was, I thought about this poem. Tweeted it every day for a week afterwards. I will not never love this poem.

    I’m a writer and I am amazed at how beautiful his words are. He can pierce my soul which has been sealed away from the sheer disappointment I bring to my parents and my therapist. He is just a person I want to be

    Can't even talk about the F word even though a third of their senior class is pregnant... This is a sad reality not only over there but all over the world

    This needs to receive the amount of recognition it deserves. I am currently analyzing Gomez's poem for my English 101 class and I realized how power this poem is since it is still relevant to the world that we have continuously experience

    Antes mataban con balas de bala;
    ahora matan con balas de papel.
    ¿Qué queríamos, que no nos mataran
    o que los libros de historia les quedasen bien?
