Dare anyone to tell me that did not give you chill's especially if you're a fan of Heart. Dare I say, Gretchen just asked Ann to hold her beer. Sick performance. Yes !!
ahepperl good for her maybe, but not for all of us rock lovers who have been wishing for another Ann Wilson quality singer to come along for nearly fifty years and when she finally does, she robs us of all that great rock music we could have enjoyed. That country shit may make her more money, but it is far from a challenge for her voice. I seriously doubt she will ever be a country legend, listed with the country greats like Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynn but she could have easily been a rock legend, just like Ann Wilson is a rock god always mentioned with other legends like Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. So she robbed us rockers of great music and robbed herself a higher place in music history. You can say what you want about her country career, but I had never heard of her until I found this video. It is true I don’t listen to country music, but like anyone else, I can tell you who the really big names are in country or many other genres I don’t listen too, just because those lighting any genre on fire get a lot of mainstream press. Take Ann Wilson for example, everyone knows who she is, whether they are a country, hip hop, jazz, fusion or any other specific genre fan, because Ann is a fucking legend. There are far fewer great female rock singers in history, but far too many great female country singer, probably because country is far less demanding. Gretchen has not, nor will she ever match the same level of fame as Ann Wilson has by singing country, but I think it’s obvious here that she could have and given women a better place in the one genre where women are lacking; Rock. Country has as many women artists as men or seems, but every rock and roller prays for the day we get another Ann Wilson. Someone who can really belt out a tune with the power of any man. I know, she was raised on country and is a country girl at heart ( no pun intended) and will stay a country artist for the remainder of her life and I think that’s great. I just wanted to state that all things are not equal, as you suggest, because she left rock music with one less hero and could have been a legend, changing rock history forever. I understand she is a simple girl and could care less about such things as fame and money, but leaving a legacy that will outlive yourself is usually everybody’s dream. It in our genetics and is the drive behind having children.
Wow, I’ve never heard anyone cover this song so well! Her voice is spot on! Ann Wilson has an amazing voice… it’s difficult to emulate. She has Power, control, dynamic range, and is pitch perfect. Great job.
Lots of good things to say about Anne's vocals, but I keep coming back to her pitch. Especially considering she could sing dead on, live, with a full band blasting away behind her. Laser pitch. Not just the razor highs, but all the lows, too. Gretchen did her justice.
@@MarkTubeGGretchen does a great job covering this song but I have to admit there is no replacement for Nancy's sister Ann Wilson she is the best female vocalist in the world ❤❤❤

Props to Gretchen Wilson for doing the vocals that would make Ann Wilson proud & awesome job to Alice In Chains for doing maybe better than the original line up of Heart.
Both Wilson sisters has always been super supportive of the Seattle scene, their connection with Alice In Chains probably being the closest relationship but they were very supportive of all the bands from that movement. Both of them are absolute legends, Ann gets most of the shine because she’s the main vocalist and she’s amazing but Nancy fuckin rules as well

We love our badass country girl! Any genre she kills it!
ahepperl good for her maybe, but not for all of us rock lovers who have been wishing for another Ann Wilson quality singer to come along for nearly fifty years and when she finally does, she robs us of all that great rock music we could have enjoyed.
Well she do country / rock with her own band.
I wonder how many are totally shocked that a country singer could absolutely nail this awesome rock song!!!! LOVE IT!!
She did an awesome job ......great voice work
Mad Painter I'm absolutely shocked.
That was bad asssss!!
Mad Painter ME..........totally blown away
desertsun100 i got to see Gretchen do it! bitch nailed it and can fucking sing!
@@MarkTubeGGretchen does a great job covering this song but I have to admit there is no replacement for Nancy's sister Ann Wilson she is the best female vocalist in the world ❤❤❤
Got chills listening to this
Arguably THE best Tribute cover of a song ever..Gretchen, Alice and Chains and Anne simply killed it!!!
That's Nancy not Ann
Sterling, Anne sang and sister Nancy shredded
@@paulwojnar2291 That wasn't Ann singing. It was Gretchen Wilson, singing lead.
Lenny I was refering to Heart for the gentleman who erronously called Nancy, Anne. Should have said in Heart Anne lead vocals Nancy guitar and vocals. I kniw that was Gretchen singing with Alice in Chains and Nancy Wilson. Ten four?
That was Nancy on guitar. Anne is Heart's vocalist.
Whoa! Great cover. Gretchen nailed it. Still prefer Anne, but, Gretchen deserves perfect cover credit here.
What would have been epic is if Anne came out to sing the second verse. Gretchen nailed it so it's good either way.
steve arbogast yea country and rock come together for one kickass rock cover
I prefer Ann in the 70's over Gretchen, but to be honest i prefer Gretchen now!!! Still love Ann Wilson!!
steve arbogast 1
i prefer the BBW ann
I don’t typically like covers, but AIC are amazing always...and yeah, Gretchen DESTROYS this in the best way possible
She is amazing
Wanna know one of the best covers ever? Disturbed singing "Sound of Silence" OMG!
@@lindarhoads3576 She killed it.

@@kristenkirkland3880 Johnny cash doing trents song...
The absolute talent of Gretchen always blows me away. And check out Nancy jamming Alice in chains like she's been there for years. You know she was always so bad ass in the 70's and 80's watching her she just never fails to deliver.
Absolute brilliance. Hands down one of the greatest covers of all time.
The greatest cover, bar none.
Brian Buchanan watch Heart cover Stairway to Heaven and then think bar none!
@@BikerScumFTW yeah I’m gunna have to disagree. You should watch Ann and Nancy cover Stairway by Zeppelin. It is the most beautiful cover ever made
@@stephaniebuechter5029 And I'm going to have to disagree with all of you. Johnny Cash-Hurt. The original artist admits ( Trent Reznor ) admits his version was better
I still get chills around the 1:39 mark when Nancy looks at Gretchen like "Holy shit, I thought only my sister could hit that note".
Wilson's!? Any relation?
@@LS-ot4ho
None whatsoever. I believe Nancy and Ann met Gretchen around 2006 - they did some award shows for CMT - and Gretchen has stated what a big influence Heart was on her music.
Their surname is just a coincidence.
@Dave Rodriguez... Who is Mike? 😉
@@LS-ot4ho not related at all to Ann and Nancy
Yes I said the same thing
I love how Nancy Wilson shows up & supports almost all Seattle artists. She is Legendary! This might be the best cover of any Heart song that I have ever heard!
Both of them are absolute legends, Ann gets most of the shine because she’s the main vocalist and she’s amazing but Nancy fuckin rules as well
nancy is great
The sisters are basically the Godmothers of Grunge, right?
@@puppetmaster8551 One of Soundgarden's albums was recorded at Bad Animals Studio in Seattle which was owned by Anne and Nancy. They have all been very supporting to the Seattle bands. When Alice in Chains disbanded, Heart took Mike Inez and Sean Kenney as their bassist and drummer on tour.
Great cover. Best I've heard. Gretchen Wilson should do a crossover to rock.
just realized Heart is involved with maybe the two greatest covers on youtube. This one with Gretchen Wilson and Heart/Bonham covering Stairway to Heaven in front of Plant, Page, and Jones at the Kennedy Center Honors. Both are EPIC!
Best cover of any song I've ever heard. Amazing vocal performance.

for sure!
Me now!!!

Ann Wilson is the all time best female rock vocalist. Gretchen Wilson can sing just like Ann. We are spoiled! Love her.

Dylan Gilbertson lmfao Stevie Nicks isn’t even close to Ann Wilson. Stfu 🤣🤣🤣
This was recorded 11 years ago in 07. Who's still listening to great rock music in 2019? I know I am. This AIC cover with the incomparable Nancy Wilson and Gretchen is fabulous, as always!
At 01:16, you see a legend from Heart walk onto the stage.......Mrs. Nancy Wilson. Gretchen doing Ann justice here.
NM156 it is good, strike that, great. In many ways better than the original! Gretchen's rock and pop covers are awesome.
She fucking kicks ass on this
Can someone post the video of Rooster from this show?
Jerry's tone makes my arm hair stand
Here she is doing it in 2019 - ua-cam.com/video/RnQwO7kwn4A-/v-deo.html it's not fabulous.
I just don't ever get sick of this song. Especially when someone covers it and grinds it out with the same intensity as the original. This is badass.
Bam!
Absolutely nailed it.

Man she kills it! Never knew she could sing like that. Arguably one of the best covers ever!
Holy Brother Trucker! I got goosebumps! That never happens! Gretchen is out-of-this-world fantastic! The band is totally perfect! Then, add in Miss Nancy Wilson, songwriter, on guitar, on stage! Wow!
On a 0 to 100 scale...this is a 200!
That was a tremendous job singing a song originally sung by a vocal legend backed up by a MONSTER of a band!
Thats great. Thanks

TwoEyed Jack so did Alice in chains
Gretchen is Ann's daughter after all

I'm sure not going do it.
Who knew Gretchen Wilson had those pipes?! What an amazing talent! If I had known, I would’ve listened to her music more
Wow this is a highly difficult song to sing. Gretchin Nailed It! ❤️
Yes absolutely she's very diverse 😊
In this moment, Gretchen was the complete package. Damn.
Outstanding! One of the best covers I have ever heard!
That is a best cover ever kick ass Gretchan 😊
Fuckin' awesome! In every spine-tingling aspect: Gretchen's singing; Cantrell's riffing; Nancy’s appearance; and, importantly, AIC's crunchy, galloping rhythm. I grew up digging the original. But, this pluses it! Also, I'm one of those listeners who comes back to hear it again. Lastly, it renewed my interest in AIC.
[edit - ofc, I know the Wilson sisters, but I had a brain fart and originally wrote the wrong name]
That was Nancy, not Ann.
Nancy 🙄

don't watch just listen, Gretchen sounds just like Anne here, easily the best vocal cover I've ever seen of this song.
And Anne is the female version of Robert Plant! AS a Led Head....freaking awesome..
She crushed this. Incredible.
Best cover of this song I have ever heard. Ann Wilson is a singing machine. Awesome job Gretchen.
this is one of the best live performances ive ever seen, especially the vocals
By far the best rendition of Barracuda by Heart I've ever herd. Very close to Ann Wilson's 1977 record label, the year I graduated High school.
Had NO idea Gretchen Wilson could sing like this.
Me either. She nailed this spot on.
Oh yea, man! Gretchen has some pipes. She def should’ve been a rock star fronting a kick ass hard rocking band.

AustinoDLG and I just love that Nancy plays on this one too
Never knew Gretchen had this in her. Her and Duvall doing the harmonies was perfect. Tons of energy! I come back to this video every few months. This matched the original!

Very few female vocalists have that kind of power.
The finest rendition of Ann Wilson and Hearts Barracuda of ever herd. Me and my boys would blast this in my 1977 Monte Carlo! One kick ass song.
I owned a 77 Monte Carlo!! Green with a white vinyl top. Great car.
Oh my god! I never thought anyone would be able to do this song the justice it deserves. Ann Wilson belted it out perfectly, and now I think Gretchen Wilson just about equaled the original! My gosh, Gretchen should be a rocker!!!!
Stumbled upon this … Loved it she killed the vocals and Alice rocked
Nancy: Hey guys, Ann can't make it tonight. We're screwed
Gretchen: Hold my beer, I've got this
stratgibson Ann Wilson. Who is 1 of the singers in Heart (the ones who made this song). And no I don’t think they’re related.
@stratgibson ...uhhh guys, Ann and Nancy ARE sisters. I thought everyone knew that.
@stratgibson ...ahh, gotcha. Misread what you were saying. Yes, Gretchen isn't family, but boy she got Ann's vocal genes!

David Stratton no they are not related...she nails this song!
First time I heard this from Gretchen. I also heard pink just now. Both are great! Gretchen, damn girl. You perfected it!

Hello Jackie
I've seen other vids of Gretchen doing this song, and they are good, but here, she's amazing.
A long time Heart fan here, and I never thought I'd say it, but this equals the original.
Fantastic to see Nancy on stage...Gretchen absolutely rocks this song.
good call that was really really impressive.....
completely agree with you.
Because she is on stage with the legendary Jerry Cantrell. The guitar tone is unbelievable.
Ya know, maybe the simple fact that Nancy was on stage, pulled it out of that young lady?, That was maybe a contributing factor, and then some others.
Akarsh Shekhar Jerry was in the Crazy on You performance when Heart was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He's the only one who wasn't on Heart and he played most of the rhythm guitar aprts. He's barely recognizable because he cut off all that hair.
This is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen

Ann Wilson had such a powerful and perfect voice for Heart's music and it made me sad when she started losing her range. I don't spend a whole lot of time watching music videos on a regular basis...so I actually just stumbled across this for the first time and holy shit!!! Gretchen sounds just like Ann did when she was young. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS VIDEO. I've already had a thing for Jerry and Alice in Chains since the '90s, and I loved Heart even before that. Now I'm a huge fan of Gretchen. This lady rocks!!!
Shes been one of the only singers who has been able to keep it for a long time though.
She does sound just like Ann. I think Nancy was pleased.
Same, i love Jerry💗
That tone! They killed it. Loved vocals.
Didn't think Ann Wilson's voice could be matched when it comes to songs like this. Now I know better.

rob murphy have you heard their songs? I don't think their songs work with her singing them. Besides they already have 2 singers singing - Duvall and Cantrell both sing.
I agree, the original AIC songs won't work with her singing them, I like the way Jerry's deep sound and her high notes compliment each other. Jerry is gettin after it on this song....hahaha
Holy shit she is good!!!
Best cover of Barracuda ever!
The first time I saw this video, I didn’t know who Gretchen Wilson was. When I heard her blow Barracuda out of the water, with Alice in Chains and Nancy Wilson, I thought Gretchen was a rock vocalist I had heard of. Then I discovered she’s a country vocalist. I can’t believe how easy Gretchen can traverse between these two music genres! This cover version of Barracuda is by far, the best I’ve ever seen and heard! I would love to hear Gretchen sing more rock covers! She’s also damn sexy to boot!
She ain’t that sexy anymore buddy, she looks like the chick that asks you for a cigarette outside a gas station at 1130PM now. Still got the pipes though
Yeah, she is wasted in country music!
