They are always so tight with their playing. If you can’t acknowledge how talented that band is you’ve got bigger problems than not liking Nickleback.
I saw them live in Amsterdam, I hated that most of the crowd was just there for the meme. They crushed it, nailed their songs perfectly.
This video shows they're solid musicians and entertaining performers, but I've always found their songwriting subpar. A better producer could have demanded better songs or set them up with some professional songwriting partners. I know they've sold millions of records, but I think they could have been pushed to greatness.
Nickelback is a terrific live and studio band.
I won't lie, I'm not exactly one of the biggest Nickelback fans out there but they absolutely crushed this. They should do ZZ Top covers more often.

I find it so ridiculous that Nickelback was swept into a wave of dislike. They have sold 50 million records worldwide and just checking Spotify 10.5 Million monthly listeners.- why ? because people ENJOY the music. Chad is a great singer and the band is talented and they write great songs. Simplistic, Cookie cutter, or what ever the critics say - SO what ? there are many hits that are simple that are based on proven templates. An example - a band that does not deserve their fame - KISS .. they have a few worthy songs but thats it - they suck ! its the theatrics that made them popular - did you ever see a mass uprising against KISS ? To each his own - if you never liked Nickelback music, fine. The problem I have is the sheep-like (people that can not think for themselves) following after some haters started an Anti-Nickelback movement. It somehow became the cool thing to dish them and the uncool thing to like them. So, you were a fan and then you ditch them and follow along ? Rock Radio stations that made good money on them suddenly started advertising (along with of a list of other bands - Michael jackson, etc LOL) that they were Nickelback free ! disgusting. Music is to enjoy - lift your spirit, dance, or chill ! period

It is. I've certainly seen quite a few covers of this one on YT that sucked. This one is one of the better ones. One group (can't recall the name and they're not worth searching because they SUCK ) made a "de-genderized" cover which was the most idiotic thing I've ever listened to.
As a fan of ZZ Top from the 70's, I say "well done gentlemen." I enjoyed it.

I raised my kids up on ZZ Top too. Those of us growing up in the 70's had so many good bands to listen to and go to their concerts. I agree with you that Nickelback showed respect to the song and didn't overpower it with their own spin.

I hate the mentality people have with supporting Nickelback just because they cover a song well. This could have easily been an original Nickelback song and they would have got crap for it. And don't get me started on when people all of a sudden praise them because they cover a Metallica song well. These people have it in their minds that "heavier" sounding music like Metallica's "Sad But True" is better than lighter sounding. It's such a stupid mentality. If you're gonna hate on anything that sounds lighter than metal, then you might as well be hating on some of the most praised musicians we have had. Nickelback don't deserve the hate. As a musician myself I honestly think Chad is one of the best musicians of the modern rock scene. Much better than the likes of Dave Grohl and Corey Taylor, that's for sure. I understand some people will be gobsmacked at this comment. But i'm only giving my point of view as a singer, guitarist and songwriter. I'm not giving my point of view as someone who reads what a hater on the internet says with loads of upvotes and then forms my opinion from reading their upvoted comment thinking it's the right view and then going on to regurgitate it influencing more people to have the same stupid, negative view.

It's not so much the bands music or even the band itself, its reputation is more from the fact Chad Kroeger was an absolute prick for a long time and did alot of bad things, including being extremely disrespectful to fans. The music was still good and the rest of the band didn't deserve to suffer for it.

The reason I love this cover is the extra dimension that Chad’s rhythm guitar adds .. that driving “chug chug” is HUGE. Oh, and they nail the rest as well… the bassist has even got the Dusty “dance” goin’ on.
