  • The Fate Of Alicent Hightower after the dance of the dragons is a sad and lonely one. All her children were dead, and only her granddaughter the little queen Jaehaera still lived. But even then the girl was as broken as the boy king Aegon iii. A deadly winter fever was moving from port to port and now it had come to Kings Landing' where it would claim the lives of the high lords and small folk with no regard for station. The winter fever had it's sight set on the Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was trapped on Dragonstone by her brother King Aegon ii with no way to escape her fate. What was to come was the final showdown between the two main players of the dance of the dragons and bring the war into its final phase. The House of the dragon was crumbling and the events that was about to follow would only cause more damage to both sides of the war.

I wonder if Alicent had nothing but regret once she lost all her children and grandchildren. Did she really feel like it was worth it? I know people defend her saying it was to protect her children but crowning Aegon as King didn't save him nor Aemond, Helena, Jahaerys, Jahaera, Maelor and Daeron. It got them all killed. If she truly wanted to save her children she shouldn't have taught them to hate Rhaenyra and her son's, teaching them to see their nephews as competition causing division within House Targaryen.

You're damn right Alicent never spoke about seeing Viserys again. She probably dreaded facing him in the afterlife and having to explain to him how her actions lead to the deaths of his brother, children and most of his grandchildren. Not to mention that she left him to rot in his chamber for days while she schemed against Rhaenyra. Show Alicent is far more sympathetic, but book Alicent is just a B word on wheels.

Daemon and Rhaenyra's actions lead to war and deaths - same or more as Alicent's. She was forced to marry Viserys who hasn't shown much love toward her children - who might have turned different if they were treated with modicum of respect. Book Alicent is sage politician and shown in better light than book Rhaenyra - even suggesting peaceful solution to the War few times - which both Viserys and Rhaenyra refused ( marriage to Aegon, Great Council to decide succession, partition of the Realm)

Alicent tried to save her children by crowning Aegon as King, but at the end the war she caused was the event that caused the death of her entire family: her father, her children and most of her grandchildren. And it was for naught, as Rhaenyra would have never killed her half-siblings, and would have given them places of honor in court.

That and they weren't even Targaryens in name, they were Velaryons. If that had happened, Alicent's line would've totally waged war over this (look at the war of 5 kings over Joff's bastard heritage). So with Rhae as the heir, war was inevitable.

@Kaboomboo You can't compare Cersei's bastard children to Rhaenyra's bastard children. Rhaenyra was named heir and she is a Targaryen. That means that no matter who is the father of her children, her children are her blood and Viserys'. Cersei on the other hand, was married into the royal family. So it is imperative that her children must come from Robert.
Besides, I think Leanor (Rhaenyra's husband), was impotent. It's clear that Rhaenyra is fertile. She had two sexual partners (Harwin Strong and Deamon Targaryen) and was able to have 6 kids. I'm not even going to blame Leanor being gay because gay men do get women pregnant (especially those on the DL). So what exactly was Rhaenyra supposed to do?
If I were in her position, I would have suggested to Leanor for him to bring one of his male relatives (one that is hopefully trustworthy and attractive) for me to sleep with so that our child will have Valeryon blood. At least the children in that sense, will look like a Valeryon.

I think the show will do something different with Jaehaera’s death and they will have her die a bit sooner while Alicent is still alive or they might make Alicent live slightly longer for her to hear the news that her last living descendant is dead. I think that will serve as one symbolic poetic justice of what scheming can cause devastation to your family. I think that the final death in her family will truly break Alicent and make her realize that her and her fathers plan did not come to fruition and it cost the lives of her loved ones. Because after the war, she was locked up and spending the rest of her days in Maegor’s Holdfast because her allies had turned on her and her son Aegon. She was in captivity because Tyland Lannister, a Green, wanted protection for the new regime of Aegon III, a Black. She died completely powerless than she ever was and she would have to bear the thought that even though her son wouldn’t have been the king of westeros, at least he and the rest of her children and grandchildren maybe would have been alive had they let Rhaenyra just ascend the throne without conflict. The show should defintley let Alicent still be alive during Jaehaera’s death becuase that would be a lot more poetic and hard hitting to watch that final domino of your family die in front of your eyes. And think about it the war completely decimated the entire Green faction within 4 years 129AC-133AC. So the Greens, in my opinion, definitely did not win because their goal itself was not to make sure that everyone goes by male precedent, that was just their main weapon of legitimization of their claimant Aegon to take the throne. The real ambitions of Otto and Alicent were for the Hightowers to become more powerful through the Targaryen-Hightower line to rule the Iron throne forever. The Dance of Dragons was all about the battle of the bloodline. And they completely lost that goal because thanks to their plotting their line was decimated within a pathetic 4 year timespan and Rhaenyra’s bloodline triumphed but at a great cost because the dragons went extinct but the blacks at least prevailed over the Greens and their personal pursuit of the dominating bloodline.

No Jahaera was dead. That was like the last nail on Alicent’s coffin. Good for her she deserved her death because she push her inexperience, over indulge, and her paranoid feed children to a war. They all died horribly and she had to see or heard about it. Rhanerya was 9 when she became her step mother and instead of caring and building a relationship with her step daughter she begin to gather lord against her to crush her once Viserys died. Alicent was a grown women of 19 when she gave birth to Aegon II.
They did everything they told and warn Viserys Daemon was going to do to Rhanerya and to the realm.
Daemon hired B&C because the greens hide Viserys body for 10 days so they could crown Aegon II, because those news made Rhaenrya miscarriage their daughter, and because their own blood took Luke away from them. Daemon raised jace, Luke and joff since
They were babes. He was the only father those boys knew. And he never, did or tried to have Aegon III or Viserys II shadow or allow anyone to cast a shadow over jace’s inherits.
He crown Rhaenrya queen, he made lords bend to jace and rhae. He and jace gather the dragonseeds, he had t Riverland supporting Rhaenrya and even after Aemond burn them day after day to make them switch to the green they didn’t and stood loyal to Rhaenrya.

Thanks to Reddit and videos like this one, I'm finding out how different Alicient is in the books versus in the show. And I'm not sure how i feel about that... It's understandable to make adjustments and changes to adapt a book stoey into a TV format. But until what extent? Alicient and Rhaenrya's relationship in the show is almost romantic. Certain flashbacks moments and the way they interact with each other is like a fine line between hate and repressed feelings. And for what I've been reading, I'm not the only one with those conclusions.
On the beginning, I was shipping them lol
Then we have the book's version, which is more of a mean stepmother - stepdaughter dynamic.
Wondering how the producers will navigate all this...

It is arguably one of the biggest changes the show made, but one that i 100% understand why they did it. Fire and Blood does give a lot of leeway when adapting so whenever something is hugely different in the show i just remind myself the show is the show the book is the book and they exist in two separate world in my head. But i do think the difference in the context of Rhaenyra and Alicents relationship in the show will change how they approach there characters towards the end of the show

Question who truly won? The blacks continued their line sure but they lost ALL of their dragons, the queen was burned and eaten, the younger bastard son fell to his death or someone survived and lost his memories, daemon might be dead or said fuck the crown and left.
The greens all died in the worst ways possible and lost all their dragons including aegon the conqueror’s dragon which is fucking disrespectful. It seems well to me the greens technically won in succession but the blacks line continued. Who do you think won?

    • @VengefulPurity
      @VengefulPurity Рік тому +5

In reality, no one, given how terrible both sides suffered.
BUT; there are many who believe the greens won simply because they think the green’s goal was to keep the ruler on the throne male. It wasn’t. That was just their “evidence” of justifying their end. What many fail to remember was the green’s main goal was to have a Hightower ruler on the throne,(mainly Otto’s main goal from the get go since he’s the one who started it, a goal pushed so heavily due to greed from a second son wanting a supreme legacy, as many second sons try to attempt)
But they failed, otto’s and Alicent’s line was completely obliterated.
Whereas the blacks heirs went on to sit the throne. So, when looking at the objective of continuing lines because through the story it’s emphasized how heirs are the legacy, and as the Hightower line did not continue on the throne, the blacks win in that regard.

Jaehaera living would kinda screw up the whole succession thing. Since it’s kind of an emphasis that NONE of Alicent’s descendants live or inherit the throne. Which I think is something George wanted to emphasise to show the futility of the war.
Aegon and Alicent is certainly interesting. I guess its determined how they characterise Aegon. In the book Aegon was so traumatised from the Dance and literally watching his mother being killed right in front of him. He never once visited Alicent or had any interaction with her. Alicent even asked Jaehaera to kill Aegon which frightened the poor girl. But the show runners might have a different take so we’ll just have to see.

Instead of sending Rhaenyra generous peace terms, if they followed Otto's plan and immediately sent assassins to poison or slit Rhaenyra's throat, maybe we would've been spared a civil war because even less houses would've rallied around Daemon.
