- Queen Rhaenrya Targaryen haad called for the head of the dragonseed Nettels which in turn had put Daemon Taragaryen in a difficult position. Does he obey his wife the queen or hand over the young girl. His choice would lead to the most famous battle in the dance of the dragons. The battle above the god's eye. Where Daemon would face off against Aemond One Eye and mighty Vhagar.
The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on Geroge R R Martins A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.
Much of the information in the video comes directly from Fire & Blood, with supplementary additions from the wiki and myself to enhance the narrative. I would highly recommend you pick up a copy of fire and blood and read it for yourself as it is criminally underrated.

@@TheV8Pumpkin I'm glad! I'm doing a reread of the main books and there's no end to how much you can take little things for clues.
I always thought the theory came a bit out of nowhere that Varys is a potentially a Blackfyre, but the first time we meet him is through Catelyn's POV and he's wearing a gown of purple silk, his breath smells like lilacs and his head is shaved like an ''Egg'' (Aegon V also did this as child to go incognito). He strangely asks Cat if she *burned* herself when he very much knows that it was the Valyrian steel dagger that damaged her hand, not burns. He then asks her to see the dagger, picks it up and runs his finger along the edge (again, knowing that the dagger is Valyrian steel!) and draws his *blood* ''by accident''. That's a whole lot of purple, a mention of fire through burns and drawing blood on something Valyrian. You could of course argue that these are all coincidences but it's harmless fun to try and piece clues together ;)
The problem between Aemond and Daemon in this battle was that Daemon knew he would die which is why he was ok with leeping from one dragon to another to slay Aemond, who was expecting to come out of this battle alive because of the two previous engagements he had with Rhaeneys and Lucerys. He was way too confident that he would come out on top.
That's what makes the one-eyed monster's end so damned beautiful. His own arrogance did him in.

Maybe daemon didn't want to fight for rhaenyra anymore so he just wanted an epic 1v1 battle.
Vhagar being old and daemon perfectly using it is a goated move,

@asp5399 In fire and Blood Daemon was very adamant about avoiding dragon on dragon battle because it would for sure result in death for almost anyone involved. I think once Rhanerya gave him the order to Kill Nettles who I believe was his daughter, he stopped caring and decided to go out on his own terms. Which is why he told Nettles to leave.
He didn’t take into account how much of a madman Daemon actually is.
HBO better not screw this up. This has the potential to be one of the greatest scenes in TV history

I have a feeling that HOTD has made caraxes an aquatic dragon. There has been several clues of this. I think they'll have daemon and caraxes swim away to never be seen again, then he and nettles will live the rest of their lives together in pentos

HBO will be damned to the seventh hell if they fuck up this fight. Everything has to be absolutely perfect, the grand cinematography of the dragons in the sunset above the lake and the moment they hit the water, the epic score foreboding the ominous end of all four combatants, and that final kill of Daemon skewering Aemond right through his blind eye. It'll be the greatest duel in all GOT since Cleganebowl or Oberyn vs Gregor.

Daemon battle IQ was so far ahead of Aemonds used Speed, the Sun, and the Blind Spot to his advantage. Also killing him with the sword a few sweet moments of victory before his death. I think Daemon went in knowing he was a dead man so he was going to take Aemond with him. Aemond was arrogant enough to think it was going to be a easy win when it wasn’t
I think Aemond thought he had a chance, but I agree daemon knew going in he was not coming out of the fight Alive but by doing so he took out probably the biggest asset the greens had in Vhagar
But his body was never recover so maybe daemon didn’t die at all. They found Aemond’s body, Vhagar and caraxes but not daemon or dark sister.

Daemon was a much more experienced Battle commander and Dragon Rider.

All these deaths for that damned Iron Throne
Even though we know then ending, and well most of the main characters end up dead, the way we get to that ending is filled with amazing moments like this. It's a nice feeling going into a Game Of Thrones TV show, knowing the story is written and has a clear and solid ending.

These dragons were once the best of friends, flying and dancing together for decades and then they killed each other. I wonder what they were thinking?
I know alot of people want Daemon to actually survive this battle but honestly it's better that he dies it makes his final act seem more heroic and would be better than somehow surviving the fall and just living his life in peace

Daemon pulled his discount double on a string the entire war and Aemond fell for it.
Aemond's death is probably the only one I totally look forward to.

I think the description said it all, the dragons reached the river with terrible speed and hit the river with such a force that the impact resulting in a splash that was as high as one of the highest buildings in the town (Kingspyre tower??? Not sure what it means). That impact would have killed Daemon. Unless he has magic helping him, the most obvious result is that he died upon hitting the lake and his body was swept away by the currents of the river and eaten by fish.

True, maybe that truly was an eye-opening moment of realization for Daemon.
Daemon and Aemond truly are interesting characters, sucks they had a rivalry during the war, instead of any bonding time as family. Those 2 as a duo would've carried House Targaryen on their backs together
But their lives, particularly Daemon's as the older man, show that the greatest warriors and dragonriders aren't always good people.

I don't believe that relationship is parental. At all. The implications are too great by folks other than Mushroom. Caraxes scream shatters the windows of Jonquil's Tower when he forces Nettles to leave him. Caraxes felt Daemon's anguish and not in the parental sense.
I think it would be cool If daemon survives the fall gets out of the lake and lay beside Caraxes laughing one last time before he dies with his most trusted friend

@@southgamer2154 Caraxes and Daemon were basically committing tactical suicide, or kamikaze. They dive on Vhagar and knock themselves both to the ground. Vhagar does basically kill Caraxes on the way down, but Daemon clearly knows he must do this to take out Vhagar and defeat the greens.

One doesn't need to be a genius to know this was a suicide mission by Daemon.
He purposefully didn't saddle himself to Caraxes.
Aemond was proud and overconfident, he expected to survive, that's why he saddled himself to Vhagar.
When Vhagar clawed Caraxes belly open, Daemon would have known he was surely done, but he was never going to let Aemond live.
I see this as a victory for Daemon, because he achieved his goal by removing Aemond from the equation.
Aemond was a mad dog, causing mayhem wherever he went.
I consider daemon and aemond the two aces of the greens and blacks respectively. Without daemon the black would have lost completely. Without aemond taming vhagar the greens would have been fried chicken way earlier.

I am awaiting for this scene in the series. Though the first I watched this Battle, I was with the Greens, then, with Aemon One eye because he was Vhagar's rider. But since the House of the Dragon started, I am now with the Blacks, hence, with the Rogue Prince Daemon.
I find rhaenyra's order to kill nettles to be a bit odd, she knew who her husband was so why was she so angry. I can't wait to see audience take on this when the show airs
For me her mistrust of Addam and Nettles helps get across to the audience how much the war has taken its toll on her mental health. She lost a lot, and the betrayal at tumbleton really made her crack. I think in the show it will be the pinnacle of her descent into paranoia
I really hope that the show makes it that far.
I wonder how they'll show the Daemon-Nettels relationship and Rhaenerys' mental state at this time. Depending on how they do it, it could be very well done.
Would Queen Cersei order the execution of Brienne had she suspected she was Jaime’s lover? I think “yes”. Even if the twins were estranged when she found out.
@@WorldOfWesteros Late in the Dance, she probably was of a similar frame of mind as Queen Cersei after the Purple Wedding. As has been said before, these 2 Queens’ lives share several parallels. @ this juncture in her life, Rhaenyra’s will was not directed by things like honor & justice.
I see many would want to see Daemon survive this and have a happy ending. But this is not a fairy tale. And that is why we love the asoiaf books. Yes I'm sad he's dead. But that's the most badass death ever. And he's right. There is a time for everyone. And Daemon correctly guessed that his time was at an end. No need to cry about it. He went with a bang. Makes for a much better story imo.
Man can’t wait to see this play out in the show hopefully it just as epic. It’s going to be a sad day because I’m really come to like Daemon alot by listening to your videos. I wonder what would of happen if Deamon survived he would easy help take down the greens.

I have to say, as unlikely as it is, I want to believe that Daemon survived. Then went to the Vale to find Nettles and live his remaining days with her.

The sheer kamikaze audacity of Caraxes. He doesn't get enough credit. Ofcourse, Daemon had the most dragon knowledge among everyone else during that period. He spent a long time alongside Vhagar, saw him growing up, then flew alongside with Laena. He always had a plan and chose Caraxes for a reason. Caraxes may have been born deformed but that deformity gave him powers (other than the deviated septum making cute noises). Extra wings allowed more agility and faster flight with a serpentine long body. This guy knew it meant death to go against Vhagar but did it anyway. Burying his entire jaw against her throat and having her in a chokehold, even while getting his own belly and wing torn. What a brave, absolutely diabolical dragon.

They better not add anything extra either. I don't want to see Daemon toss a handful of dirt into Aemond's eye when he gets close enough. This would be another "someone did this to Aemond" moment, something I'm already getting tired of.

What always bothered me is that though Daemon managed to remove the greens greatest asset in Aemond/Vhagar he in favor got rid of the blacks greatest asset by killing himself/Caraxes. With his death, Rhaenyra’s death was now only certain.
Personally if I were Daemon, I would’ve told Rhaenyra to kick rocks and not send Nettles away keeping to the original plan of hunting down Aemond together.
That would have not worked. Rhaenyra had already been paranoid and had asked to kill every bastard dragon rider after the treacherous deeds of Hugh and Ulf, who rode Vermithor and Silverwing. Even if Daemon had refused, it was only a matter of time before Rhaenyra became enraged and did something more stupid. After all. she literally buried herself by loosing allies left, right and center with her stupid and impulsive behavior. The Dance of Dragons aptly describes how madness and arrogance runs deep in both sides of the Targareyen factions. Hence, it was only apt where both were extinguished at the end with only innocent children left to rule a throne, leading to Maesters taking control and completely rewriting Targareyen history and supposedly killing Dragons for ever.

Hugh and ulf should have been assigned to hunt aemond, daemon and nettles should have been the ones to attack daeron and the Hightower army
It would’ve been 10x more dangerous if they had betrayed and allied with Daemon instead of Daeron and the Hightower army. Atleast Daeron and tessarion had to deal with being tied to a huge army, Daemon was by himself.
I did always wonder why this wasn't what she did. But i think it comes down to two factors. If Hugh and Ulf had teamed up with Aemond it would have been game over for the blacks in terms of Dragons. But i think the biggest factor that determined why events transpired the way it did is Daemons seemingly personal vendetta with Aemond. He wanted to be the one to end Aemond. But there is also another way to look at it. I think it is also fair to ask the question of how much Rhaenyra really could trust Daemon, a man who has always made choices to give himself the most power.
I think it's has more to do with Daemon taking command in Riverlands previously in the war he already has personal relationship with the lords there and experience in commanding why change?
I’m convinced that in HOTD Daemon will wash up on the isle of faces and live out his days with the Green Men. Addam will stop there before tumbleton and he will see Daemon, but no one else will ever know. Story wise, I dont think this will do much. But they’ve set up his connection with the old gods and it’ll allow them to get Matt Smith in one more scene. I mean they literally showed a Green Man in the S2 finale.

This gross generalization of all Blacks being good and noble and all Greens being canniving and treacherous is so misleading, Aemond did his duty as a younger brother in the books he never tried to burn Aegon on purpose, there have been these minor tweaks by the showrunners to portray all blacks as righteous, Rhaenyra's infidelity is not an issue but Alicent's is, Daemon ordering the killing of a babe is justified however Sir Criston Cole breaking his chastity vows is a very big deal, this is hypocrisy at its finest.
They won't be able to keep it up forever without angering their whole fanbase. Rhaenyra becomes way too unhinged towards the end for them to keep twisting history in her favor. Nor do I think they will, they really sold the idea of her slowly going mad with "divine purpose" during the dragonseed episode, so it seems they're taking it in that direction, or so I hope.
If aegon was able to survive the fall with three dragons colliding, is burned and on land deamon could definitely survive this.
Not the same, first all three riders were saddled to their dragons, Daemon was not!
The three dragons didn't just fall to the ground from the sky, if that happened even Aemond and Vhagar would be dead.
They struggled with each other, spinning around until they hit the ground with a great force.
Rhaenys wasn't killed by the fall, but by dragon fire, Sunfyre just broke his wing, Aegon II was burned too and got broken bones too.
Now get this, Vhagar and her rider were Unharmed!
Regardless of how you feel about Aemond telling the rogue prince you have lived too long takes balls of steel.
I'm so torn part me thing that best way for daemon to go but I also like the idea he was just so done with all this he just finally lived a quite life after this

In the Show is repeated and showed many times Daemon abandoning Rhaenyra, so i wouldn't be surprised if they gonna adapt him actually living and run away with Nettles.
The thing that I do love about Vhagars death in this battle is this:
To me Vhagar symbolizes House Targaryen's Power of Dragons. She is the only one of Aegon I the Conqueror's original 3 dragons and almost the size Belarion was during the conquest and currently the largest dragon alive. With her death it hinted that the era of House Targaryen's dragon power is ending. After this the next two events resulted in many Dragon deaths: Storming of the Dragonpit (Dreamfyre, Syrax, Tyraxes, Morghul, Shyrkos) and the second Battle of Tumbleton (Vermithor, Tessarion and Seasmoke) and eventually Sunfyre died.
They never found Daemon's body, so chances are Daemon isn't dead. I'd like to think he left for Essos with Nettles. I'm sure the show will clarify the circumstances of his death. I know it's cool to hate on things of late, but I'm very confident the show can do this scene justice. The Luke/Aemond conflict was well done, and the show does portray dragons well.
before HOTD i was 99% sure he died, but i can't explain why, i just have a feeling the show might pull the somehow he survived thing. i'd give it 50/50 odds
@@WorldOfWesteros I feel precisely the same. Daemon is confirmed to be George's favorite and, if the show has a main hero, it's him. Add in the purposeful distinction made in the books - they found Aemond's remains but nothing of Daemon, and the fact that Cyraxes was able to drag himself to shore before passing away, and there's certainly enough there to indicate some chance Daemon's survival. But there's nothing to do but wait and see. Unfortunately I doubt we will see this climatic moment of the Dance before 2026.
I wonder what happened to Alys Rivers & her child after the war
A lot of people speculate we might find out in Fire & Blood part 2 or in a future novella. It seems a very big thing to leave without a answer
@@WorldOfWesteros With all due respect to GRRM, at his current pace, he will never finish the books or complete the plots. But I perfectly understand that he has done a lot of hard work and deserves every bit of his success. My only wish is that he actually takes in a young and budding writer and gives him the plot and history with some bullet points on the type of ending he desires so that the young writer finishes the book in his stead. That may take 10-15 years.

This seems totally impossible to me, especially since there is not the slightest hint of his survival in the rest of the story. This battle is a suicide mission. He died in the fall, and his body was simply not found.
@alessiodandolo1460 The Fire and Blood books aren't the final tell all. They are a collection of accounts from biased sources, so we shall see. I'm guessing for fan service, they might make Daemon survive.
@@MaverickOrtaeo1 It would be dumb fan service ! What makes this story so powerful and realistic is precisely that no one is protected and no character has a destiny. Daeron Targaryen is probably the most promising character in the Dance and yet he dies anonymously killed without his body being identified, Criston Cole is nicknamed the Kingsmaker and he dies in an inglorious way before he can even fight his enemies , Alicent Hightower is the most important queen in the history of Westeros and she survives the Dance of the Dragons to die a few years later from a fever, Corlys Velaryon is one of the greatest characters in the history of Westeros and he dies of a common cardiac arrest on the stairs. Yes, Daemon is a warrior of legend, and his death is memorable, yet his body certainly ends up devoured by fish, simply because this story constantly reminds us that beyond all legends, these characters are only mere humans made of flesh and blood.
Honestly I'm a Green supporter. I love the Blacks, but I was always more of a Green fan. Though I am torn cause of my love for the Velaryons.
I often swap between the two. for me part of what makes the conflict interesting is both sides have valid arguments, and both commit equally horrific acts of violence

Alicent and Cole were scheming vindictive bastards that antagonized the blacks at every turn and killed all chances of peace. 95% of all the massacre and sacking were done by the greens especially tumbleton. This was their war they started and they paid for it with all of their deaths. Rhaenyra showed mercy Alicent never did but was hardened and isolated by losing her confidants and pushed to radical acts. I have no sympathy for the greens they earned their fate through their own selfishness and dishonor

I don't think Daemon survived, in the book it says most historians believe Daemon died and that him surviving with Nettles would be poor history. That is George rr martin basically telling us without telling us that Daemons dead
There's also no word, not even a rumour that Daemon survived. And considering Daemon wanted the throne would he not have attempted to take it after killing Aemond?
Daemon dying here fits with the theme fantastically well. If you play the Game of thrones you win or you die there's no middle ground. 99 percent of those who wage war for power die in this series

I’m honestly curious why so many people are cool w/ Daemon abandoning his wife & kids for a side piece & actually wanting him to survive this for a happily ever after w/ her while literally his entire family is basically slaughtered & his poor only surviving son is sitting on the throne known as Aegon the Broken?! It’s so weird & I’m so curious how the show is going to actually write these characters b/c if they end up trying to write it as Nettles being the “home wrecker” after they’ve clearly established in season 1 that all Daemon ever wanted was to be by his brothers side to serve as his hand and restore House Targaryen to its proper glory only to have him abandon that in the middle of the war he was paramount in starting (especially after the clear distinction between his views & Rhaenyra’s views in the season finale before Luke’s death which is clearly different from the books) for a dragon seed side piece while his children are dying and his wife & queen (that he literally pined away for for over a decade & then finally gets her & marries her the way he wanted in the way of old Valyria) is falling apart it will not play well on screen for the audience at all. Not with everything they’ve established on the show in season 1. And they showed him having sex w/ Mysaria in ep1 but even then he “couldn’t finish” & he hasn’t been w/ her since. I know a lot of my fellow book readers want to keep referring to show Daemon as the same unfaithful book Daemon but the show runners have clearly established a character that was faithful to Laena & is faithful to Rhaenyra. It hasn’t shown him to be someone going around whoring about with women & even clearly having an impotence issue so I honestly don’t see them suddenly having him starting up a sexual relationship with Mysaria again. Also, people will just end up hating Nettles if she comes in & it’s like she takes him away from Rhaenyra & his kids & I don’t want that b/c she is so awesome. I’d honestly love it if she ends up being more of a daughter to both Daemon & Rhaenyra & sister to their kids. Like they kind of just adopt her & take her in as one of their own. And that she never even travels alone with Daemon but others are with them on dragons when they are together. I think we’ve already seen that the show is staying pretty true to the source material while also showing us that it was definitely told from perspectives that knew the outcomes but had no idea of the actual truthful events that took place. I really hope they know the story they want to tell & they really do know what they are doing because I did enjoy season 1 & I very much want to come back to an epic season 2 that I won’t end up hating. Hopefully they know the story that will play well on screen to the audience & they will continue to write these characters so well that we’ll keep coming back for more. I honestly cannot wait for Cregan Stark!

I never saw Nettles as anything familial to Daemon. I don't want an adopted daughter storyline at all on this show after they have gone an entire season giving us nothing between Daemon and his actual daughters--Rhaena and Baela. That would be a slap in the face.

They probably will change this battle a little bit for the show: I think that Caraxes is the only dragon that could swim and even dive - and we will see this in the batte scene: when Vhagar is pursuing Caraxes, the male-dragon dives into the lake, changing directions under water and coming out of the lake at an unexpected position for a sneak attack therefore surprising Vhagar. To avoid this happening for a second time, Vhagar then flies high into the sky and Caraxes coming from beneath (Vhagar's blindspot) and then going for the kill - pretty much as it is described in the book/this video. The second major change could be that Daemon will survive the battle - not only because his body was never found, but simply because: if the battle above the god's eye will take place in the season 3 finale, with the show running 4 seasons, I simply cannot see how the show could manage a whole season without Matt Smith as the lead actor. His performence of Daemon is simply epic and he has to be kept in the show...
Daemon will not be shown dead and his body won't be found, however it will be his last scene and he will be assumed dead by all along with Aemond, although I do likely expect that Caraxes will convincingly kill Vhagar in the show compared to the book, mainly because ppl love an underdog and because the general audience dislikes Vhagar, so I think vhagar will be dead mid air whilst caraxes will be alive for awhile later
Nettles is a Targaryen bastard who was born 3 years before Daemon’s twins in Pentos. Daemon is a Valyrian Superfan. No wonder why Daemon was attracted to her. Only Targaryen blood can tame dragons.

Aemond might've died but he was strong enough that Daemon knew he wouldn't make it out alive after a fight with Aemond. So, he sacrificed himself in order to give the blacks an upperhand that Aemond Targaryen and Vhaegar were dead.
