Hello Friends, Hope you had a good week, I’m still working my was back through comments, so if I haven’t gotten back to you yet I’m on it. I wanted to say Death of Corlys in the title but given HOTD and the shit I got about ‘spoilers’ specifically about Aegon, Rhaenerya and Luke I just couldn’t be asked or have the time to deal with that so just reworked the title.
Dude is a legend of Westeros. Also watching HotD and knowing that he knew Jac, Luc, and Joffrey weren’t his grandchildren by blood, he still accepted them and wanted Luc to be his heir.
He did out of ambition rather then love.. still a legend tho!! Went out and got what he wanted. Built his house of his own back. Sure he built the castle the lot and made his house the richest and one of the most powerful.
I kinda feel for the other Velayron claimants. I don't condone the acts of attempt murder of course, but to be behind in the succession to children who might have been bastards and now to a actual bastard turned legitimate stings a bit. If it were me, I would've taken tips from the Sea Snake and sought my fortune overseas.
I’ll keep going until I run out of books to cover, even then I’ll find a way. I’m just thankful GRRM wrote fire and blood which allows me to retell these wonderful stories
This video and the discussion at the end shows why the Greens were the true winners of the Dance of the Dragons. Their argument prevailed and carried on, both for the following successions and for Aegon the broken's reign. Yes Aegon may have been Rhaenyra's son, but he was chosen as heir by Aegon II. If the Blacks truly had won the dance then their worldview would have been adopted and Jaehera would have been crowned Queen, as the daughter of Aegon II despite of gender.
A lot of people really miss this point. if you look at why who one the dance video maybe one person in hundreds of comments mentions this. Plus consider the circumstances of how Viserys ii becomes king. Don’t think the black would have been best pleased
@@WorldOfWesteros I will consider that, as soon as you cover that in your video :P I have not read the books, but I binged-watched your whole channel these last few weeks. I am really impressed sir, keep up the good work, we really appreciate it.
Yeah they won by having Alicent's line go extinct 🙄. The line she and her father wanted on the throne so much they were the main architects of the Dance. Also why the eff would they crown Jaehaera queen? It makes no sense for the blacks to crown a green. The Dance was between Rhae's lines and Alicent's. Tell me why after a war to put your line on the throne they'd give it over to an "enemy" regardless of an arranged marriage? Say what you will but Rhaenyra's line carried on till the era of Dany. 😂
@@alicianorayan7646 You don't get my argument. First of all, you say why would the Blacks crown Jaehera. The Blacks had no say in who would become king/queen after Aegon II. People do not understand that it was not the Blacks who made Aegon III king, but the Greens! Aegon II chose Aegon III as his heir (reluctantly and as a way to appease the remaining supporters of the Blacks and achieve stability, pressured by the Sea Snake BUT still it was Aegon's decision!). The fact that Aegon II chose Aegon III, his nephew, as heir and not his own surviving child, his daughter Jaehera, is proof that the whole structure the Blacks sought to bring down (Viserys with naming Rhaenyra as his heir and refusing to change his mind after Aegon II birth and Rhaenyra with the Dance of the Dragons), that is the dogma of primogeniture, was not overturned, just as the Greens fought to.
Again,I absolutely love your channel. Your breakdowns of Martin's work is always spot on. I have always thought that Martin is kind of a shitty writer BUT.... his character development is absolutely the best.Complex very human duality of man characters that are likeable, full of faults, and relatable. Your videos do a fantastic job of pointing out those character's humanity.Great job as always.
Glad you like them. I do somewhat agree with your sentiments about GRRM. Some of his writing can be questionable at times but his characters are always so fleshed out. I’m just glad he wrote fire and blood which allows me to tell the stories of these wonderful often overlook characters
I mean yeah in the books he is white😂 tho i dont mind that they made them black. Made it easier for all the new houses and stuff for ppl who havent read the books. Same with how rhenys has blonde hair same with aemma aryn etc.
Looking at this from a social conflict perspective it's so interesting to compare and contrast this to the development of capitalism from feudalism in our own world. Capitalism may well have developed very quickly with such royal patrons with dragons as the Targaryens under Rhaenyra, however the loss of life, infrastructure and of those dragons doomed the nascent bourgeoisie of Westeros to the political and economic crises of Essos and abroad while the feudal aristocracy busied itself with handling the succession crisis and the rebuilding of the Realm. But these regression of course will occur as we have seen in early bourgeois and proletarian revolutions in our own world, but nothing remains stagnant as we have seen with the growth of the markets of Essos and the slow but steady advancement of technology and the economy of Westeros.
Such facts may well speak as to why houses like the Manderlys are so readily willing to support Stannis, on top of their loyalty to the Starks, they also know that having such a Royal authority who also ruled the Narrow Sea would be incredibly beneficial to the merchants and manufacturers of White Harbor.
I’m not sure about specifically Tywin, but at his peak just after his nine voyages and before the dance House Velaryon were thought to be the wealthiest house in the realm.

Just like Hoster Tully and Maester Aemon Targaryen, this legend is one of the fews who died from old age.

"History remembers names not blood" -lord corlys velaryon
Yeah, he was a good man.

It's hilarious how often the house of the dragon finds itself only a few death away from extinction
