I am older than many of your viewers. Let me tell you in advance. You need to dress well all the time when you are an old lady, if you want to be taken seriously.

About two years ago, I made a decision to remove anything from my life that made me feel less than my best-starting with my wardrobe. Gone were the worn-out "slum around the house" pieces and anything that didn’t fit well. I either had items tailored, donated, sold, or gifted them to friends. In the process, I let go of more than half my closet. For the pieces I struggled to part with, I placed them in a clear storage bin labeled with its contents and a date. If I don’t use anything from the bin by that date, it gets donated-no wasting time revisiting it or overanalyzing my decision. It’s been so freeing to remove the clutter (shoes, clothes, and more), and I genuinely feel better all around. Now, my wardrobe is easy to mix and match, adding new pieces feels intentional, and I actually wear everything I own. ✨
This. Yes! I am about 70% done with my closet and already feel better about it. I open the door, and calm comes over me. For the first time I feel like I have a working wardrobe. When done on to the rest of the house!!
Stop watching shows or movies that are dark and disturbing is excellent advice! I finally stopped not soon enough but about 10 years ago, I’m 54, and that junk is finally starting to leave my memory. Everything I watch now is happy and uplifting 😊
I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t have this mysterious sock missing problem. If one’s missing when I put them away I usually find it still in the dryer or on the floor 🤷♀️
Several years ago I went to a garment rack that I change up every 10 weeks or so to adjust with the climate, whatever I have coming up, activities and my weight. The remainder of the items stay in my closet. I don’t feel pressure to get rid of things i truly like but didn’t wear just then and i also don’t have the get rid of regrets when I do move on from something. I am not overbuying when I wear things I love everyday. No where minimalist either.
I don't have this one either - my solution: lingerie bags! Straight out of the hamper & into the bags before going into the wash. You can't lose them if they're all contained.
Put them away in a labeled box for a few years...then take them out when they're BACK IN STYLE. So glad I ignored people who said 1- "Bootcut jeans are out" -- I kept mine, they look Good on me! and 2- "Throw out your skinny jeans" -- why? so I have to spend twice as much when they come back into fashion? Nope, I put them away for only maybe a year as I was tired of them. Now I find I want to wear them, and I Don't Have to buy them AGAIN. Yay me! Also, I did lose weight, so I use a BELT - great invention. Or I could just take them in. And if I gain some weight later, I can let them out. We have to watch our $$$ now. Things are only gonna get much, much worse
@SandyCheeks63564 Best comment ever. You are so correct. Just box them up and wait until the come back in style. Clothes go in and out of style so fast. Then you’re just paying much more for the same clothing item.
Yes, exactly! I have a large drawer in my dresser dedicated to items that doesn’t fit with weight fluctuations, or for items that re “out of style” and keep them. Then when I’m ready, I “shop” from my own drawer and sometimes I even forget about what’s in there. Such good advice.
Regardless of the current economy, I'm old enough to know styles come and go...and come back. Now is a great time because it seems anything goes. I just keep and wear what flatters me and represents my age and lifestyle well. I've stuck to those rules for myself and I've not been sorry.

There's one time jeggings are still useful -- and it's not a situation you're going to see in Florida. They're evergreen in cold-winter places up north where you need pants that tuck into winter boots. Where winters are long and decent-looking warm clothing options are few, a sleek leg with a jegging, fleece legging, or slim ski-type pant tucked into a thick sock and/or a wide boot is a perennial classic. (Also prevents your pant cuffs getting wet, as happens if you wear a straight or wide leg pant over the boot in stormy weather.) If you're wondering who's still buying jeggings, it's us ladies up north who are just trying to get through the winter without dying of either frostbite or terminal fashion boredom.
I love that you mention sweaters. My husband buys me a different color of the same sweater for every holiday. I feel like i can't get rid of them... they're gifts. But now that we're in a colder climate vs Houston, there are people who probably NEED sweaters. Thank god.
I’m just guessing, but I doubt he can remember what colors of sweaters he gave you. Perhaps you get the same gift is because he has no idea what to buy. How about sending him a list of items you would like for gifts, or your Amazon ‘save for later’ list?
I recently lost 90 pounds and had to buy a whole new wardrobe…head to toe, inside to out……I walk daily on a maintained trail through the woods……I am always coordinated and comfy even though I will NEVER meet anyone I know. I invested in a wardrobe of athletic wear from Walmart as well as jeans, church dresses, casual chic and PJ’s…..so I look good even in bed 😴
Losing weight is one great way to push yourself to declutter and update your wardrobe. I lost 22 pounds in 2023 and have kept it off by taking the time to really enjoy my new clothes.😊 I gave away all my size 8s and bought new sizes 4s and 6s. If that waist band starts feeling even a tiny bit tight, I get busy and lose the extra pound. I love my new style, and thanks to Anna for giving me some ideas.
Simply, I ruthlessly get rid of anything that doesn't make me happy. Recently, a pair of worn out chunky buckled Givenchy Elegant boots in black and white (I kept the red ones). I STILL wear the Jaeger short black velvet fitted jacket from 1980. I was very poor, and waited until it was very reduced in a sale. The velvet and the style are still perfect. At age 71!
Yes, to ending negative self talk. I gained a bunch of weight with menopause and can be critical with how things look. However, I have found out that I can still find styles that look flattering and need to just avoid the items that might not look as good now.
I'm a pretty efficient de-clutterer. After losing 35 pounds last year, I had to get rid of most of my wardrobe. The hardest thing to part with was a dress that I made. I worked very diligently to ensure it fit me perfectly and I always got compliments when I wore it. It was hard to say it just wouldn't work anymore and let it go.
Congratulations. I had weight gain after the loss of a family member this year and I'm back on the weight loss road. It's so nice to see stories like yours.
I started to keep a list of all my make-up and other products, with a date they were opened and an expiry date, just so I can keep track! It is not a long list, but it saves trying to remember when I bought items. I also include all my unopened stuff so I don't keep rebuying it!
Totally agree about getting rid of the disturbing media. I recently stopped reading "pretty girls" by Karin Slaughter. I actually had a nightmare after reading it before bed. I had to stop reading it.
Oh my goodness, I did the same thing with disturbing/horror movies. I get nightmares easily and once you see something once, you can't unsee it. Last scary movie i wat he'd was The Grudge. And it wasn't even that scary but that was it for me. 💛
About 5 years ago I accidentally bought a leather Veronica Beard jacket (I had not realized "one click" was activated) and I have had this blazer in my closet with the tags on and buttons wrapped since the day it arrived. I really thought I would eventually find an outfit for it but really.. It's been unworn for 5 years so last night I committed to listing it.
I think we all have “go to” items that we continually wear. I’m making an effort to expand what I wear and if it doesn’t fit comfortably, I’m putting it in the charity bag.
Two things messed me up - COVID, and retiring right after covid. My style is now sweatpants and t-shirts. So sad! I worked in a corporate setting for 40 years. I like what you said about finding clothing that is comfortable but also up-to-date. So the plan is to declutter what I have, and add in some up-to-date comfortable pieces that I will want to wear. I'll be honest....it's daunting! I appreciate your channel because you keep it real with clothing that is affordable and not too trendy. You go for classic looks which is what I like. Thank you.
I think it's fun to save sentimental clothing from the past, but I put them in a memorabilia box. i have a top with whales on it on my first official outing with my boyfriend, later husband, a cut-out of a graphical design from a large coat, etc.I bought overseas. I'm old enough that I've forgotten a lot of events so it's fun to occasionally pull it out and get some memories back.
I actually like watching dystopian stories, but only if it concentrates on how groups form to work together while resisting cruelty and concentrate on helping others. I find it uplifting. Good overcoming evil. Great recommendations as always and particularly timely for me.
This was such a therapeutic video. I constantly need to purge my closet and drawers. We do tend to reach for what we feel great in, so why do we hang on to so much?
Ironically I am just watching this after cleaning and organizing my closet and dresser yesterday 🙌🏻 What motivated me was running my thumb through my favorite tank while layering it with a sweater 🙈 Just pitched all those pilled, worn tanks and t shirts 💪🏼 And at 68, I still need to not scare myself if I get a glimpse in the mirror! So this past year I’ve made it a goal to dress comfortably but put together. Everyday. Even when training my German Shepherds! Nice athletic pants and decent shirts. Never know who will stop by. Great video!❤
Yes ..yes..yes to telling us what is dated in today's fashion... styles change... I believe we're watching fashion videos to be informed. Thanks for the information.
Love your videos! They are relevant and as others have commented, feel like you’re hanging out with a friend. I listened to this one on an exercise walk and it made all the difference! Thank you❤
I have Crohns and my weight fluctuates a lot. I just bought a new wardrobe that fits and is good quality. I decided recently that I will get rid of ANYTHING that doesn’t make me feel like a badass. ALL of your tips are great 🎉New subscriber, now!❤❤❤
Love this one, I rotate the clothes in my everyday closet 3-4 times a year, seasonally. It really helps to weed out items that are no longer in the roation.
Very happy to hear you say what you said regarding socks because I swear to God, they get lost either in the washing machine or the dryer lol. Good to know I’m not the only one. I’m really glad i watched this video because I have a lot of things that I bought, and I have a small closet too, but I put a lot of things in the guest closet and some of them I haven’t worn in years. It’s time for them to find a new home.
As a retiree, I have 45 years of clothing experience. There are some items you will always wear, and they do not go out of style. At the top of the list are straight-leg Levi jeans. There’s a reason Levi has been making jeans for over 100 years. Along the same line, keep your jean jacket. I have worn mine for 40 years, and it has never been out of style. If a blazer is a traditional look, and doesn’t have an ‘extra’ like big shoulder pads, pleats, fancy buttons, etc., it won’t go out of style. The colors might go n and out of style, but black, navy, brown, and camel will always be stylish. I have worn he same ‘moto’ or ‘bike’r leather jacket for 30+ years. Belts will wear out before they go out of style. Scarves go in and out of style. I keep mine knowing they are not taking up much space and it’s too expensive to replace them many times. Winter outerwear in a classic cut like a pea coat, a double-breasted long or knee length are always stylish, as are gloves, knit hats, and winter wool scarves. Formal wear will typically go in and out of style, so if you like something and it is a higher quality piece, keep it and you will find it is back in fashion, so you will save money. Amazingly, the prom dress my granddaughter wore recently is the same style I wore in the late 1970’s. Fashion is cyclical and a smart woman keeps quality pieces. An older friend who was in her 90’s in 2003 was always impeccably dressed. I would compliment her clothes or jewelry, and she would tell me the piece was 40 years old, or whisper that she had purchased it in the 1940’s. I loved her style, and her spunk.
I live in a colder area.. I have summer bathrobes 3 that I rotate and 3 for the winter months that the lighter ones just won't work for. But I do love a nice robe to put over my loungers and relax in on a cold night
Such a great list! I never realized how many things I’ve been holding onto that I don’t really need. 😅 The point about getting rid of fast fashion pieces that don’t last is spot on - time to invest in quality over quantity! Definitely going to declutter and focus on more intentional purchases this year
Hi Anna I had to laugh at myself. I had on joggers today like those you had on but you looked way better than me in loose joggers . I have lost twenty two pounds and they look like clown pants. All day I thought I hope no one drops by. I have decluttered five black garbage bags of clothes this Spring and Summer, but now it is time to get super serious about some things that stayed and also do shoes and boots. I need the closet space. Thanks , this is the push I needed. ❤❤❤❤
Perfect timing! I need to follow a one-in-one-out rule, but with the "one-ins" coming from the clean laundry. I don't "need" to buy anything. I want all my clothes and outerwear to fit in all my clothes to fit easily in my closets. I am washing some items that I wore to give them "one last chance" and as they come out of the dryer, they're going into the donation bag. I also have too many different colors of jean jackets and blazers and not enough moderate weather days to wear them. This week's Tuesday was too hot to wear a jacket and by Thursday we had 4" of snow. I have too many structured jackets that are too uncomfortable to wear inside a winter coat. This is a struggle. I did donate all trousers with less than a 29" inseam. I am over ankle pants. And it was so easy to take all my trousers out and let the tape measure do the final cut. Another criteria I am using is to let go of first layers that are too bulky. Turtlenecks must be thin and able to slide and move around under sweaters and blazers. A lot of my cotton pieces don't hang right when they're layered. And if there's too much fabric bunching up inside a blazer arm it's gotta go. This winter I will "audition" coats as a last chance. I bought two trench style (long and short) replacement coats and I need to cull some old puffy jackets. I will keep 1 or 2 waterproof puffers for those cold and rainy days. And I feel ready to get rid of nostalgia pieces like old, heavy 100% cotton jeans that don't feel good. Finally deciding to get rid of my 1981 Gloria Jeans cream colored flares (that I bought in 1981). Thanks for your Prada skirt story.
I had a Ralph Lauren wool and leather accent equestrian skirt from the 80’s that I held onto for so many years. It broke my heart to let it go but I did. I never wore it but I loved it.
I use sock clips I got on Amazon. When I take my socks off, I clip them together and put them in the laundry basket. They wash and dry with the clip on, so I tend not to lose socks.
Lovely video, lovely information -- to get rid of your inner negative Nancy and to stop exposing yourself to dark/disturbing things. That is the best advice I've heard for years. Thank you!
I love watching your videos! I completely understand the dilemma we face when trying to invest in quality items that stand the test of time. Keep inspiring and encouraging your viewers with your amazing content-you’re doing a fantastic job! 😊👏
The "Expensive but never wear it" is a hard one for sure. I had two sweaters that I bought that I struggled with getting rid of because they just weren't working for me. Finally I took them to my local consignment store, hoping someone loved them as much as I did that actually wears them!
You've made me feel kinda lucky.... i have a very small closet space, so I only keep one season at a time in that space. When I change my seasons, I get rid of pieces I haven't worn or didn't feel good in..... clothing and shoes. When bringing out the current season I only bring out what will work with my current "mood." I also assess what I need new and check all shoes for damage that occurs from sitting in storage.
this was such a helpful video. I know it was long and chatty, but it was necessary and creates a more guilt free purging.. And yes, you can put things in other closets or other places in your home but sometimes I forget where they are and what they are and I envy some of the influencers who have a room that is their closet, but mine is adequate, but not oversized and to have clothes in your closet that mash the one next to it is not a good idea no matter how nice the piece. Thank you for your candid suggestions
I love your suggestions! I’m going to pull out my cropped 3/4 sleeve jackets and give them away. I haven’t worn them in years. Also, I frequently use a company called retold recycling for old socks, clean but unusable underwear or any textile you would throw away. You buy bags from them, fill them up and send them in the mail back to the company the postage is prepaid. They either recycle or send the items to appropriate places to get reused.
I agree with getting rid of clothes that don’t fit right now. After I gave birth to my first born, I held onto all of my pre-baby clothes for way too long and now looking at it five years later, everything is completely outdated. I should’ve just sold or donated everything back then because even though I’ve lost most of the weight, I feel like I should get more updated items now anyway. So I love your recommendation of getting rid of it within a few months instead of waiting years.
I will say this, I have been getting rid of almost ALL of my polyester clothing since I can no longer wear synthetic materials. Even if I loved it, it had to go.
I love shopping vintage and consignment, but I have to be careful, as everyone clearing out their closet of out of style items puts a lot of them in resell shops.
Since retiring I am on a constant clean out mode. Some goes to goodwill; I always offer nice items to my friends who have less. It feels so good to have space in my closet and drawers. Your tips are always helpful.
Ok the Gucci skirt is adorable…. You could have been wearing all this time…. But if it is not you .. let it go…. I never had issues with faux leather breaking down when I lived in Washington or Colorado, but it all fell apart within a couple years of moving to Florida.
sentimenal things, so true ! You really speak to who i am in yr vids because you are so real. I appreciate that. I will never forget yr advice on washing yr face at pm....even a poor job of face washing yr face and putting on night cream is better than not doing it.
Can you have the waistband on the Gucci skirt replaced so you can tuck in a top or wear it with a body suit? It seems a bit frumpy without something fitted (like "body con" fitted) on top. If you can't bring yourself to alter it, and you're not going to wear it, maybe frame it as a piece of art and hang it somewhere. It's a really cool piece.
Lol as I'm watching your video I'm also watching the show " I survived " makes me feel awful depressed and sad lol but I can't stop watching. Since you said that I won't watch anymore. Good advice! Drains me that show!

What site are you listing it on? Not hearing great things about Poshmark these days
I mostly use Poshmark but with the current Canada Post strike, I'm (begrudgingly) utilizing FB market a bit more .
I think we all have “go to” items that we continually wear. I’m making an effort to expand what I wear and if it doesn’t fit comfortably, I’m putting it in the charity bag.
Yes! ❤️❤️❤️
Time to clean my closet. Thanks for the motivation 😊
I have a four day weekend to do just that. It’s on my list. lol.
Definitely release that Prada skirt back into the wild.
Correct assessment, I shall be letting her go to another tribe for sure! 😂❤️❤️
Thank you.
Me too! Culling my closet now and trying to find a cozy uniform for home and more put together for outside world.
Perfect video this is so perfect to watch after shopping Black Friday deals I don’t need
lol I hear you!! ❤️
If something has sentimental value, take a picture of it, then get rid of it. You’ll always have it and can look at it anytime.
That's a great idea! ❤️❤️❤️
I did that with concert and souvenir Ts and never looked at the pictures. Great exercise that prevented me from buying more imprinted Ts. I'm cured!
@@eileencarroll6418 Yep, you realized you weren’t that attached to it to begin with. It’s really enlightening.
I enjoyed all your great ideas! I’m very motivated to go through my closet and drawers to get rid of what I do not wear and or isn’t in style anymore.
Yes ..yes..yes to telling us what is dated in today's fashion... styles change... I believe we're watching fashion videos to be informed. Thanks for the information.
Glad I could help you update your wardrobe! ❤️❤️❤️
Love your videos! They are relevant and as others have commented, feel like you’re hanging out with a friend. I listened to this one on an exercise walk and it made all the difference! Thank you❤
What a great down to earth video! I am inspired to tackle my closets and dresser drawers! Thank you.
Great chat. I need to get rid of lots and no more negative talk!
I have Crohns and my weight fluctuates a lot. I just bought a new wardrobe that fits and is good quality. I decided recently that I will get rid of ANYTHING that doesn’t make me feel like a badass.
ALL of your tips are great 🎉New subscriber, now!❤❤❤
Thank you! I have been having trouble figuring out how to clean my closet for two weeks now and I’m stuck but your video helped me so much.
Love this one, I rotate the clothes in my everyday closet 3-4 times a year, seasonally. It really helps to weed out items that are no longer in the roation.
That is such a great habit to be in!❤️❤️❤️
Anna, you can wear anything… but that skirt omg 😮 Thank you for sharing. We all have something like this in our closet.
Yes we do! This one had to go! 😀❤️❤️
It would make an interesting decorative pillow
Love this channel! Too much food on Christmas, can’t sleep, now I’m digging in my closet 😂
Anna, it’s gotta go! 😂 it’s a horrid color on you and that back ruffle gives you a tail. 😅 You are so cute and always look lovely. ❤
Gucci skirt HAS to go‼️😆
Your errand running outfit, actually didn't look that bad😀
Well I actually got rid of all those embarrassing clothes this was the best I could come up with for an example 🤣🤣
My #3 daughter just came over and confirmed our washers/dryers are *definitely* portals of some sort. I am extremely weirded out. 😳🤯
SUCH a great one today!
Glad you liked this one, Kathleen! ❤️❤️❤️
That's great! You are using them all so no need to declutter! 🙌
Your hair looks so pretty!
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Such a great list! I never realized how many things I’ve been holding onto that I don’t really need. 😅 The point about getting rid of fast fashion pieces that don’t last is spot on - time to invest in quality over quantity! Definitely going to declutter and focus on more intentional purchases this year
I love that this wasn't only about getting rid of outdated trends!
I was already going to clean and toss stuff today but this was very motivating. My T shirt collection is insane
I use sock clips I got on Amazon. When I take my socks off, I clip them together and put them in the laundry basket. They wash and dry with the clip on, so I tend not to lose socks.
2 shrugs must go. Won’t part with my 44 yr old way too small nostalgia pants that I wore on 1st date with deceased hubby. One day they’ll fit 😂
Thank you so much, Andrea! ❤️❤️
The "Expensive but never wear it" is a hard one for sure. I had two sweaters that I bought that I struggled with getting rid of because they just weren't working for me. Finally I took them to my local consignment store, hoping someone loved them as much as I did that actually wears them!
Agree about the negative comments to myself!
Lovely ideas....thank you for sharing Anna!!!❤❤❤
Love your videos Anna!
Thank you I’ll have to check them out!!! I am always at a loss for items that the donation places won’t take ❤️❤️
Have a pillow made out of that gorgeous silk fabric!
This came at the perfect time! I just filled a whole bag of clothes to donate!! Thanks so much!! ❤
Donote to me
Same here! Actually three bags and I’m reselling some items but donating others.
Anna❤ thank you SO much for explicitly saying this! It’s not just the clothes- let go of watching things that add stress, dark/disturbing films 4:42
Dark and disturbing relaxes me❤
I agree with getting rid of clothes that don’t fit right now.
Negative self talk is the bain of my existence!
I love your style and that skirt looks NOTHIING like you. Its time to send it out into the world.
Your hair looks amazing! ❤❤❤❤
Since retiring I am on a constant clean out mode. Some goes to goodwill; I always offer nice items to my friends who have less. It feels so good to have space in my closet and drawers. Your tips are always helpful.
I've been retired for 12 years and it's been a process to completely change my wardrobe to fit my new lifestyle.
Designer does not always equate with "tasteful".....that Gucci skirt was hideous.
Ok the Gucci skirt is adorable…. You could have been wearing all this time…. But if it is not you .. let it go…. I am amazed you are the same size at 43 that you were in your 20’s… I love watching your videos when I have time….. you are real and relatable…. I appreciate all you do… thanks for sharing ❤
I think the Prada skirt would look better turned around. The ruffling in back would look better in front. Try it that way first before tossing.
I thought the same.
My thought exactly. It seemed such a simple fix and I am certainly no fashionista.
I start a new job in a couple weeks and be been doing Al of the above! It takes awhile and in stages , but decluttering feels so good. Great video 💜
Good luck with your new job. What a great way to start the new chapter with everything in your wardrobe working for you.
Don't get rid of the skirt. Just shop for a few tops that would work. It's so unique.
The first running around outfit was cute!
19:24 this tip is so necessary for me, tk for your share annareid
Hate huge rips on jeans. Good advice on everything
Lol as I'm watching your video I'm also watching the show " I survived " makes me feel awful depressed and sad lol but I can't stop watching. Since you said that I won't watch anymore. Good advice! Drains me that show!
Hello, what brand is the white T-shirt that you said was high quality and has lasted you many washes I’d like to get one 😊
Great!!! Helpful video - thanks Anna🎉❤🎉😊
I've noticed after I retired comfy = raggedy. Had to change my mindset, for sure.
Good advice about avoiding the dark and disturbing shows and movies. I only enjoy the ones that balance the dark stuff with some good humor.😊
You touched all bases for me. Thank you.
Oh my! Just got rid of my cropped 3 quarter sleeve blazers. Lol
Absolutely great video!!!! You hit the nail on the head with every suggestion!
Definitely get rid of the Gucci skirt!
Yep 😃
