None but the Welsh can sing like this. Simply wonderful and it moves me, an Englishman, to tears.

Thank you for your kind comment Gregory and I am only sorry I did not see your input to thank you before this evening. I am listening to the many different choirs and singers singing Myfanwy.......most of the from Wales, and not one amongst them that I have not enjoyed enormously. As you may guess it is a very emotionally levelling evening and I love it very much. This is my escape from the reality of what is happening in the outside world, politics and the tragedies of natural disasters. Best wishes to you.

@@gregorycollins5888 Oh there is you can be sure of that! Like Andrew i too am from England and listen to many YT clips of "Myfanwy". I've not a clue what they are saying....but it still moves me to tears. Listen to this guy in a pub in South Wales; ua-cam.com/video/L_9ZZLBgSMo/v-deo.html I cannot sing at all and i KNOW that so if i go a wedding or funeral i don't sing! But i LOVE music and can hear when someone REALLY CAN sing and i can appreciate it. There are some folk who THINK they can sing, but can't so end up making a noise. So in planning my own funeral i've decided i don't want anyone singing and instead will listen to pieces of music i've chosen and Myfanwy is among them but as i'm an Englishman i'm not sure how folk will see that....but i'll hopefully be with the Angels by then so won't know!

I absolutely agree. It gives me chills, in the most positive way imaginable. Not an Englishman though, but a Dane. 😊

It's beautiful, my mother was named after this. Her whole family were singers. Get together were awesome. I'm the only one in me family that can't sing. Welsh singing does lift you up and twigs on your heartstrings.

I am a half Welsh/Irish born and reared in England.
Makes me so proud of my family and the culture in our home in England. I am filled with tears as we had this song at my Mothers funeral, as she was gently born into the chapel.

    Paham mae dicter, O Myfanwy,
    Yn llenwi'th lygaid duon di?
    A'th ruddiau tirion, O Myfanwy,
Heb wrido wrth fy ngweled i?
Pa le mae'r wên oedd ar dy wefus
    Fu'n cynnau 'nghariad ffyddlon ffôl?
Pa le mae sain dy eiriau melys,
Fu'n denu'n nghalon ar dy ôl? Why so the anger, Oh Myfanwy,
    That fill your dark eyes
    Your gentle cheeks, Oh Myfanwy,
    No longer blush beholding me?
Where now the smile upon your lips
That lit my foolish faithful love?
Where now the sound of your sweet words,
That drew my heart to follow you?
Pa beth a wneuthum, O Myfanwy
I haeddu gwg dy ddwyrudd hardd?
    Ai chwarae oeddit, O Myfanwy
Â thanau euraidd serch dy fardd?
Wyt eiddo im drwy gywir amod
Ai gormod cadw'th air i mi?
Ni cheisiaf fyth mo'th law, Myfanwy,
Heb gael dy galon gyda hi. What was it that I did, Oh Myfanwy,
To deserve the frown of your beautiful cheeks?
Was it a game for you, Oh Myfanwy,
This poet's golden flame of love?
You belong to me, through true promise,
Too much to keep your word to me?
I'l never seek your hand, Myfanwy,
Unless I have your heart with it.
Myfanwy boed yr holl o'th fywyd
    Dan heulwen ddisglair canol dydd.
A boed i rosyn gwridog iechyd
I ddawnsio ganmlwydd ar dy rudd.
    Anghofia'r oll o'th addewidion
A wneist i rywun, 'ngeneth ddel,
    A dyro'th law, Myfanwy dirion
I ddim ond dweud y gair "Ffarwél".
Myfanwy, may your life entirely be
Beneath the midday sun's bright glow,
And may a blushing rose of health
Dance on your cheek a hundred years.
I forget all your words of promise
You made to someone, my pretty girl
So give me your hand, my sweet Myfanwy,
For no more but to say "farewell".
