This is amazing!!! I’ve just discovered Malcoms art and quickly became obsessed... so I took to UA-cam to perhaps learn some new techniques and here I am! Absolutely fantastic.
I'm also doing a mastercopy of liepke, i think he does the background first then a layer of black then the colour. and he uses very thick paints as the impasto can be clearly seen.
@@JulianMakes I live half way around the world too lol, if you image search a good quality image and zoom in you can see the brushwork and paint overlapping :)
Excellent artwork Julian. You captured Liepke's style excellent - if anything I would say that this has an almost "better" style to it. I like Liepke's art, but I love this piece!
when i first saw the start i thought, masterpiece no, then once he started going into detail I'm like okay damn never mind that is awesome, keep up the good work! also i mean like 3 mins onward i loved how even small details show how much effort and dedication you put into your art, once you started working on the eyes it made i stand out because even at the start i didn't think much about the eyes, but as soon as 20 seconds have gone by from you working on them i had to go back to see what you did to make the painting almost change from really good painting to a masterpiece
Hi, I am about to start painting with oils and I love Liepke's style and use of colour. What did you do for the wash, is this black oil paint with "a lot" of medium in it brushed over? Also, is the purpose of the wash just to provide a subtle background or is there more to it? Gorgeous work, really good imitation of Liepke's work. Best wishes, Nat
Natasha Bailie hi Nat, I love liepke too! The wash is just to get the paper a little damp so it’s not so sticky with the oils, it’s only because it’s very thick absorbent paper, the wash is just gamsol thinners i put the brush in some dark paint after the thinners to sketch in a watercolour type of way the brush is mainly thinners until I start painting proper.many thanks for your great comment :)
Thanks for clarifying. I just did my first oil painting tonight, not great but better than I expected. I think I've identified where I've gone wrong though 🙂
absolutely stunning, you did a great job capturing her essence. If I came across with no info I would think Malcom painted it himself but I really like your spontaneous brush marks., Truly beautiful. Who is the composer of the music on this video, mesmerizing.
Cool sharing but I don't think that's how he paint base on how thick the paint he puts on the painting. I am not even sure he mix paint on the palette. Whoever wanna look close to his painting go to this website www.artsy.net/artist/malcolm-t-liepke and u can look close to it.
Eric Saute & Liepke what a powerful combination…

Yes the wash is dark plus lots of gamsol. It helps the sketching flow better

Lo admiro mucho
Muchas gracias!
What paints are you using?
Son of Europa oil paints
I meant the brand of paint, my bad for not being specific.
Son of Europa oh i see :) various, but mainly Michael Harding & Rembrandt for basics and one tube of Daniel Smith quin violet (iirc)
A little too refined ,beautiful though
thanks so much Gold FIngers!
Yeah, liepke uses a lot of hard edges
