    Bought me a StroboClip HD after watching this (love it), and loaded a bunch of your EVH sweeteners into it (thanks for those!). I went with the clip-on, as I can use it on my fiddle as well (it has 9 strings 😂)

      @@AllenGarberGuitarFun excellent video. Thank you. I have a question . I'm trying to select the right Peterson for me. I'm a beginner/ intermediate learning to play EVH . I don't work on guitars so do I still need the big bench tuner or are the others like the clip on and pedalboard tuner just as accurate? And can the other models also download these offset tunings from Petersons website?

      @@allboutthemojo As a first time user of a strobe tuner, I would recommend that you buy the Peterson StroboStomp HD. Any of the “Strobo-HD” series of Peterson tuners can accept downloads of all of these tuning offsets that I have posted on the Peterson website. The “bench tuner” (the Peterson StroboPLUS HDC) also has a fantastic metronome and is a wonderful device that goes beyond just tuning and you might consider getting one of those eventually, but the StroboStomp HD pedal strobe tuner is the one I typically recommend for first time Peterson users. To learn now about Eddie’s use of tuning offsets, be sure to read through my forum post on the subject: www.vhlinks.com/vbforums/threads/62695-Van-Halen-tunings-with-Peterson-strobe-tuner-reference

      Working on it now…should be up on the ‘Trading Post’ shortly. One other tip…I recommend ordering the USB wall charger from Peterson. This way you can charge any of the Strobo HD series strobe tuners without having to plug your tuner into a computer with a USB port. www.petersontuners.com/shop/item/USB-AC-AdapterCharger

      @@MarkPritchardGuitar If I were choosing between the two, I’d go for the Strobo Stomp HD. It has a much larger display and larger buttons.
      The offset for “Somebody Get Me a Doctor” is as follows:
      1st string: Eb +27.7 cents
      2nd string: Bb +27.9 cents
      3rd string: Gb +29.6 cents
      4th string: Db +30.0 cents
      5th string: Ab +30.0 cents
      6th string: Eb +27.7 cents
      This offset is one of Eddie's tried and true offsets that he returned to using regularly. It is the same offset as the "Women In Love" intro, "Outta Love Again", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and the live 1977 offset among others.

    • @AllenGarberGuitarFun

      The StroboPLUS HD is now discontinued, but Peterson continues to support it. I recommend getting the current HDC replacement model, but if you find a good deal on a used Strobo PLUS HD, you can’t go wrong. But honestly you won’t pay much more for a brand new HDC.

    Great video. My takeaway is that regardless of sweeteners or offsets, use normal chromatic tuning to set up your guitar if your going to play in that area and 1/2 down if your in that area. Fair assessment?
    Does the Hz tuning like A-440 or 444 or 432 change this recommendation?

    • @AllenGarberGuitarFun
      @AllenGarberGuitarFun  2 роки тому +2

      That is essentially correct, except I would avoid changing hertz references. I simply go by cents only and I believe that’s what Eddie did as well. It will make all of the offsets completely void.
      So if you tune down 1/2 step or if you are in standard tuning, you have to make sure that you set up your guitar and intonate according to a standard chromatic pitch. If you set up and intonate for standard pitch according to the direct +/- 0.00 pitches on each string (E, A, D, G, B and E of course), you can then TUNE your guitar according to whatever offset you choose and it will match the recordings as close as physics will allow.
      When you have a Peterson Strobo HD series tuner, simply set up and intonate as normal and then you can download any of the many individual Van Halen tuning offsets that I have found directly to your tuner, tune your guitar accordingly and you will then be in tune with whatever that recording’s offset is without having to dial in the cent differences on each individual strings. By setting up a preset for each of these offsets, I’ve done all that work for you. Just follow these instructions, pick an offset for whatever individual recording that you want to be in tune with from my list of offsets on the Peterson website in their ‘User Trading Post’ section, load it on your tuner and then tune up. Once you’ve done this, play along with that recording and you’ll be amazed that you are now a close to perfectly in tune with that recording as is possible within the laws of physics.

      I have all three versions of the the Strobo HD series tuners…the HDC, the StroboStomp HDC and the StroboClip HD. I use the HDC at home as a bench tuner, for transcribing tuning offsets at home and using the incredible built-in metronome,.The StroboStomp is for pedalboard and the Clip for acoustic instruments and small acoustic instruments like mandolin. If I were to get only one to start off with, I would get the StroboStomp HD. You can use that on the bench as well as pedalboard. You can download all the offsets from the Peterson website to any of the three, but again I’d start with the StroboStomp HD.

    • @AllenGarberGuitarFun
      @AllenGarberGuitarFun  2 роки тому +1

      I unboxed my HDC and went through the setup process with it. I used my previously registered Strobo Plus HD to demo how one tunes to a preset. I did this to keep the video a little shorter so that the viewer wouldn’t have to watch me load every preset on my HDC. If you look closely at the video, including the title picture, you will see where I used the HDC versus the HD. One way you can easily distinguish the HDC from the discontinued (but still supported) Strobo Plus HD is that the background on the HDC is black and the actual strobe wheels and note names are the parts of the display that have a color (it was the reverse on the HD…it had an orange background and black characters). That character color is fully customizable to any shade of the rainbow on the HDC.

    • @AllenGarberGuitarFun

      This is made for the tech bench at home or on the road. Peterson makes several options for different applications. There are industry standard rack units in addition to their well known vintage analog strobe tuners. But most people make use of the Strobo Stomp HD or the Strobo Stomp HD Mini which are designed for pedalboards and smaller on the road workbenches…many of the world’s best technicians for the world’s best players use them. Peterson also makes the very inexpensive but powerful StroboClip HD and HDC models for a clip-on option.
