    Hi Bob, thanks for the video. I'm interested in the Peterson StroboPlus HDC primarily as a tuner. You really didn't show the tuner in operation, instead concentrating almost entirely on the metronome. I really want to see what the tuner display looks like in operation.
    You mentioned that you are an opera singer. I'd especially love to see you singing into the unit to see how the tuner responds to, and displays, vocal input. That's mainly what I want it for. Thank you.

    Thanks for the info. I’d like to know more about the quarter inch in and out, including capabilities (e.g.: bypass, play-through, mute, pause, on/off, etc.). Basically, the whole quarter inch ball of wax. My funds are in my hand and I need to choose a Peterson pretty much now. I could really use your help. Thank you. Be well and be cool.

    Hi, great video! is the sound from the speaker enough loud for practicing contra bass or something loud instruments?

    Thanks for the video. I have a Stroboclip for my viola, but I can't attach it to my double bass in a usable location. I bought a Korg Orchestral tuner to help check intonation in the bass, but the LED display is too faint to read at a say 2 1/2 feet. Is the StroboPlus HDC easily readable at say 3 feet?

    Does the metronome support swing percentage? If not, does anyone know of a metronome that does. It's not just funk and hip-hop any more that are so completely dependent on 16th-note swing. It's even in country and middle of the road pop.

    How well does it track low pitch instruments like bass guitar or even contrabass / French horn?

    Can the battery be replaced? My current stroboplus tuner has a weak battery after 3 years of use and I don't see a way to change the rechargeable battery. That needs to be standard because these are not cheap. Not only that but the build quality is questionable because my speaker has blown. Sure I can run it through an amplifier or listen with headphones but that's not very practical.

      I’m fairly certain the battery is replaceable. I remember seeing replacements on their website, but they may be unavailable right now. Their customer service is really, really great. I recommend filling out a support ticket on their website. Please let me know how it goes!

    Thanks for the walkthrough. I'm seriously considering ordering one of these when they start shipping, however I wanted to make sure it solves for the main problem I have with my current metronome (Korg TM-60), which is insufficient volume. How loud do you find StroboPlus HDC to be?

    • @BobMakesMusic
      @BobMakesMusic  2 роки тому

      The first four voices of the metronome: rimshot, clave, woodblock, and beep are quite loud. In this video I was wearing a lav mic under my shirt and I had to turn the volume of the HDC to about 1/3 to keep the mic from clipping while I filmed. The human voice sample is softer, but I still consider it a usable volume.
      I have no problem hearing the mechanical sounds over my double bass or while I am singing at full volume.

    I'm a beginning cellist here. I'm looking for something to help correct myself in realtime that I don't always have to look directly at. :)

  • @inkpapers-1
    @inkpapers-1 2 роки тому

    I'm curious as to how well the tuner works for you as an opera singer.. and for that double bass. I also wonder if it has a flash color function when you hit the note? I know strobes are great for accuracy, but during practice to correct myself I only want to see the tuner out of the corner of my eye, not watch it carefully.

    • @BobMakesMusic
      @BobMakesMusic  2 роки тому +1

      That's a great question. I don't use the strobe tuner function while I am singing. The human voice, especially my type of operatic baritone, contains many overtones and the vibrato of the voice doesn't lend itself well to electronic tuners. I have done considerable work in an applied voice lab studying the human voice, particularly straight tone singing. By using spectrogram analysis we came to the conclusion that pure straight tone singing is impossible for humans to recreate. There will always be some amount of vibrato present in the voice.
      I have used the StroboPlus HDC as a rehearsal metronome while learning new music. I can create a tempo map on the Peterson website, import it to my HDC, and then scale the tempo back while I work to get the words pronounced correctly. The HDC allows you to dial back the tempo and it retains that ratio throughout the tempo map. It's amazingly handy.
      As far as flashing a color when a note is in tune, Peterson tuners are so accurate that having the display flash a different color when a note is perfectly in tune would create a strobe light effect. I have used the StroboStomp HD on my pedalboard with my upright and electric upright basses. It has a very large display and I can adjust my intonation on the fly using it. I would recommend looking into the StroboStomp HD is you have a pickup on your cello. Otherwise, consider placing the StroboPlus HDC on the stand next to your music. It has a built in kickstand for this purpose.
      That was a longwinded answer. Thanks for giving me some great points to make in my upcoming demo videos!

      @@BobMakesMusic Thanks for that informative reply. I will look forwards to your demonstration! I've been thinking of the clip on version but holding out to see what this new one is fully capable of. No pickup on my cello, I just have a little cheapie Fender tuner clipped on the bridge.
      I didn't know that about tuners and operatic singing.. that does explain the last time I looked at some singing in Melodyne and found tones all over the place. I hadn't thought it through. An applied voice lab sounds like quite an interesting experience, hope you go into that more in the future too.
      Nothing like a good baritone! A cellist is someone who appreciates the baritone range! Nothing like that depth.

      @@inkpapers-1 I will have some videos soon that will use the information I learned in the lab. They’ll be focused on overtones and tuning systems, which may or may not involve the StroboPLUS HDC :)
      Person does offer a clip on piezo pickup which can be used with your cello. Clip it to the bridge and plug it into the StroboPLUS HDC and you’re all set. www.petersontuners.com/shop/item/TP-3-Clip-On-Pickup

    Will the tone generator be able to play notes from a preset?

    • @johnnorris8409
      @johnnorris8409 2 роки тому +2

      Yes, whatever Sweetener preset is active at the time can be used to either tune visually using the strobe image or can be played as audio tones using the StroboPLUS HD-C's tone generator function.
      That goes for everything from a guitar Sweetener to the new xenharmonic/microtonic presets (15-tone 6th Comma Meantone, 19TET, 22 Shruti, 24, 31 & 53TET).

      @@johnnorris8409 One more question! Can different octaves of notes have different tunings? Can an A4 be 440Hzand the lower A3 be lower? Like 217Hz instead of 220Hz.

    • @johnnorris8409
      @johnnorris8409 2 роки тому +2

      @@CarlosSantiago-td9eh Yes, that is already the case with all of our current model hardware tuners and the HD-C is no different. The tuners are unique in this respect as they give you complete freedom to program the pitch of any note in any octave independently, going so far as to even allow the programming of multiple pitch targets of the same note in the same octave within a single preset.
