  • Here is my ULTIMATE Oculus/ Meta Quest 2 Guide for 2022 and 2023.
Lots of new VR headsets are coming out and now the most popular VR headset of all time is about to have some very real competition from companies like Pico and Sony. Here is how you can increase your comfort, field of view, and also increase your enjoyment while in VR to hopefully spend more time IN VR as well!
Here are the links to everything in this video, some are cheap, some are a little more expensive, but any of them will make you have a better time.

    Just a quick update here!
It's come to my attention by Guy Godin (developer of Virtual Desktop) that the TP-Link router I initially recommended in the description is prone to long term failures! The description has now been updated to reflect that!

i was huge proponent of VR back in 2016, owned all the headsets and easily introduced hundreds of people to their first VR experience... but IMO roughly 2017 was the year VR peaked with HTC Vive Pro 2 + wireless adapter + GearVR Lens Mod, and 5 years later nothing has really changed and been extremely stale.

It hasn't really grown that much other than you don't need to be rich to jump into it. If eye tracking/foveated rendering gets perfected and is the norm I think it will really start to ramp things up since ultra high end VR won't require as much horsepower. At the end of the day it's about the games though. More companies other than FB will need to sink a lot of cash into game development. Another option would be to hire Praydog.

Well done. This video is greatly appreciated for two reasons, 1. It gives credit where credit is due. It is truly a fair and appropriately positive review of the Quest , and 2. It encourages users to extend the life of their device. Too often we see promotions to get the newest and latest technology. However, we are becoming too much of a throw away economy and society. This video successfully shows how you can enjoyably utilize the Quest 2 for a couple more years. This also can increase VR usage as people may be more inclined to purchase a used Quest 2 knowing the product has a longer useful life.
Again thank you for a highly practical video. All your videos are well delivered and appear well researched. Keep up the good work!

VR gloves are nice and all but VR is already a niche market. don't think there's really a market for expensive VR accesories when they still have trouble selling VR to the masses.
don't get me wrong it would be cool but I'm not sure focusing on things like VR gloves or treadmills should really be a priority.
also handtracking? do we even need gloves if they manage to improve that some more? cuz right now it's in the very early stages and very few games/apps actually implement it but it would be way more accessible than expensive VR gloves with lighthouses and shit

I'll one up you on the facial interface FOV trick. I use my rift S entirely without facial interface, getting the lenses so close to my eyes that the FOV is easily as big as an Index (I've compared).
It's only possible because of the halo headstrap design that makes the rift S so comfortable, thought. I taped some black cardboard cutouts to the side to block out ambient light, and voila, the most comfortable high FOV version of the Rift S ever made.

Just wanted to stop and thank you Whenever I first got into vr "quest2" a few years back. I saw one of your videos talking about the larger library of games on steam versus quest. I did end up getting a couple games on the oculus platform but very quickly ended up biting the bullet and building a full gaming rig. Now most of my library is all on steam not to mention having the versatility of jumping on my rig whenever I'm just not up for diving In to VR. This was probably one of the best suggestions I ever got makes it so much easier to upgrade hardware and not lose all my games and progress. So again thank you for grate advice and a easy and fun place to keep up to date on everything.

I understand how swapping headset companies can be a pain. I believe in the future, Oculus will eventually release another headset specifically for gaming and will be a really good headset like the quest 2. I think I'm going to stick with my Quest 2 until the Quest 3 or pro or whatever comes out.
Also, I might give that BOBO VR head strap a try. I've been using the Quest 2 pro head strap for over a year now and so far no breaks at all. In case anyone is curious, I have almost this exact setup for my Quest 2 and I can confirm it's a huge improvement over how it comes stock.
Bobo halo battery strap, spare battery and Kiwi knuckle grips (the longer handled ones). I happen to use a Bobo interface that works well for me because I favour cushioned over better FOV but that'll be down to preference.
The halo can be a little bouncy but is super comfy if you're not doing something intense so I also have their elite strap kit for more active stuff, easy to swap between the two. Two batteries are worthwhile, keep the spare charging and you effectively have unlimited playtime. Finally, the Kiwi knuckle grips are an absolute gamechanger for the stock controllers. Can't tell you how much of an improvement they are.
My only struggle has been audio, which I agree is a huge part of VR. There hasn't been a great solution for the Quest besides the VR ears which are just too pricy tbh, though they do look good.
I have a decent pair of IEMs and a super short cable which beats the stock audio but it's not ideal. I'll have to try a Bluetooth transmitter, I have a decent pair of Soundcore earbuds but I never bothered trying on the Quest due to it's issues with Bluetooth. The audio is great on them and it has passthrough so if this gets them hooked up to the Quest without much latency, I will be a very happy man!
Great stuff as always Thrill, keep it up!

My recommendation for WiFi, coming from a professional: Unifi 6 Lite. It's got a very user-friendly app for configuration and if you feel like going deeper, you may host your own Unifi controller either in Docker/VM or cloud-hosted.
    As for Audio:
FiiO BTR5 + BTA30 Pro + Any headphones you enjoy. I recommend open-back ones for the better sound stage. Also, with closed-backs you tend to talk louder since you don't hear yourself as good.
Also, a topic Thrill has not touched in this video regardless of your headset:
Get good flooring for your play space. Pro-Tip: don't look at these smaller Jigsaw tiles. Instead, look for a martial arts mat. They are basically the same but the tiles are way bigger, usually 1x1m at 3-4cm thickness. They are intended for professional use and will last a long time. You definitely save money, the bigger your play space is.

I’ve really disliked the base quest 2 headstrap bc it feels so uncomfortable to me after anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour but didn’t really wanna spend so much extra on the official battery headband or some other random one that could fail easily. Thank you for showing me the best option for this!

Nice timing. I literally just started using my Quest 2 a few days ago.
It's also my first true VR experience, (I don't count Cardboard or PSVR tbh, they just weren't... it.)
I actually had this Quest for the last year, but refused to link my Facebook, so I waited til they removed the requirement.
I've been waiting since 2014 to try VR, been obsessed with VR tech for the last 8 years, so finally getting to play it is amazing!
My 2 favorite games already are Zenith and Tea For God.

The pixel density on the Quest is actually pretty incredible.
Used the Quest 2 while waiting on my Index Knuckles RMA, and after switching back to Index there was a substantial screendoor effect that I hadn't really noticed before.
Better color depth and FOV on the Index, but definitely not as high of a pixel density.

Also, yes please, make a video about haptic gear, low tier and high tier, and if possible perhaps middle tier?
You have no idea how much that would help.

if your gonna get the kiwi grips I would recommend getting the ones without the battery cover, (unless you absolutely need to be able to switch batteries as fast as possible) as someone who plays games where you have to do fast jerking movements I found the battery cover grips to be uncomfortable, as when I moved my hands fast I could feel the cover and felt the actual grip part coming out a bit because of the gaps made by the battery covers

Still use my CV1, Vive and PSVR today, and that won't change until the PSVR2, i had the Q2 but my ipd was 67mm and i got nothing but blur and glare from it, so i had no option but to return it and just stick with what worked, but i cannot complain, the Vive, deluxe strap and index knuckles are still a utter joy to this day.

I remember as a kid being excited that i was able to be in a place without physically being there through cardboard vr, then i went on and tried several mobile vr headsets always wanting something greater. I've had the quest 2 now for almost a year and what i'm yearning for now and i think the end point i wanna reach is fulldive. I just want to experience actually feeling like being in a place just like one of my favorite manga series shang-ri la frontier. Can't wait untill vr reaches that type of immersion

hey I'm a quest user, and use my quest for PCVR. I have invested huge money into VR with vive tracker 3.0s, basestation 2.0s, and am even about to get a haptic suit, but the one area I didn't think about spending my money was on a better wifi router. After watching this video and the part where you mention getting a wifi 6 router, I got up and walked out of my room to look at my current wifi set up in the living room and realized I had only a very cheap company provided modem with built in router functionality, and it all clicked. Why my VR experience was still suffering so much even when I have a high end gaming pc, and the best FBT money could buy. I had bad internet and had never bothered to use decent hardware to help with the problem. I immediately started making plans with my roommates to buy a new router, everyone agreed on which one to buy and 80$ and a day later, I had my hands on a wifi 6 router. When I tell you it made a difference, I mean it made a huge difference. HUGE. I'm so glad I bought it! Thank you so much Thrill, I really needed this advice!

A neat trick for people who use lan cable but have a wifi addaptor you can use the hotspot from windows to connect your vr to that gets like 5-10ms latency with a 5ghz hotspot!

I have recently just bought some of these upgrades to my Occulus Q2. The Bobo VR head strap is a must for comfort and just overall fit. I also with that bought a Vr Cover Oasis face plate for a more hygenic cover for the Occulus. The last upgrade, I am waiting to come in is VR lenses From VRwave, as a gut that has to wear my glasses while playing Vr it really subtracts from the comfort and playtime that I have. So I bit the bullet and will be trying Prescription lenses for the quest. as soon as they come in I will let ya know how they work and help with comfort and FOV

Rechargeable AA batteries are a no brainer for me. I also got a facial interface kit from Kiwi and Kiwi controller straps. Kept running into latency issues with ISP modem/router, upgraded to an AC1900 router made a huge difference for wireless PC VR with Virtual Desktop....all with a Quest 1
