In Today's video I am highlighting some of the biggest cringeworthy mistakes that new and old Oculus Quest users make. Hopefully this video
is helpful to ANYONE with an Oculus device (Rift S, Rift, Quest 1). From EchoVR spamming, causing bad tracking, playing with a link cable on an old dusty laptop or PC, there are some mindblowing mistakes on this list.

My channel is about VR Content (obviously lol) I've covered many topics on this channel in the past such as PC Building, PC Gaming Knowledge, Gaming News. That can be CPM rates, Industry knowledge, Business knowledge, how to edit, how to build a gaming PC, budget or not. But VR is cooler so I'm probably gonna keep doing that.
I'm like the monkey you send into space for tests. I just come back with the results and give them to you for FREE.
#GetHip #OculusQuest2
the biggest cringe worthy mistake: When my brother told me not to get the quest 2 saying it was BAD, then I got it and he kept asking to use it.
just tell him its as bad as he thought it was and you returned it.

My friend kept on telling my dad to not bye me the quest 2 for my birthday but I still got he said it dies in 20 minutes when it dies in 2-4 hours and he said it charges for 40 minutes when it’s really more than a hour

biggest cringe worthy mistake people do is think all vr is exactly like the cardboard phone vr
Thats mostly cuz they dont get the feeling from vr when you watch a video.
You only get it when you have used good vr.
The cardboard was i think 3$ so it didnt mather but the cheapest good vr is the quest 2 at 300$ so it is less likely gonna get bought.
That's 500/10
Ik its so annoying

Hope you're enjoying your VR, got mine a few Days ago :)
I also heard my uncle say "oh, yeah i also play vr" then i went to his house and he had one of those crappy wish phone headsets
Keep expectations low for certain people on certain topics, that way your either right to be doing that or be surprised it's the opposite ^^

Coming from someone with epilepsy, I’ve been looking at a VR headset for years. I didn’t know about the kids in lobbies, and I really appreciate this being told to me before I get one. ✨
Especially in VRChat I recommend you to abuse the safety settings they will help a lot not only with epilepsy but with performance too
@@Megaranator Thank you so much man, I appreciate it!!
There’s an easy way to tell kids to F off, we can record them with two clicks of your right hand and send the footage to Facebook. They get the message.
@@darrenmoore4659 idk dude, everything with this Facebook and oculus quest thing is really me nervous, because I don’t want Facebook mistaking me for the age of 12 so then I get my quest bricked. I’m just going to be as careful as possible and not do anything or send anything to Facebook to make sure that my quest doesent get bricked
@@knox3309 I’m getting sick of them kids, telling them to get off the poker table and just play the game.
Wasting my battery time waiting for them to take there turn.
Last night, when I quit, there were four of them in the middle of the table trading cigars and beers and yellow ducks. It’s beyond a joke and not worth playing anymore. Over them.
7:06 I don't own a Quest 2(or even a VR headset in general yet), but I can tell you why the elite head strap breaks. It's due to the rigid design of the head strap. Most people, when taking off the HMD pull it upwards. And just looking at the design of the elite head strap, the back of it is designed to hold the strap in a rigid position. The black part that wraps around the back of the head tries to keep the strap solid using the base of your skull to do this. Which causes the rigid design of the strap to receive undue stress on the bottom side when the HMD is pulled upwards(most notably at the contact point where the strap meets the far more rigid back piece). And thus causes it to eventually start to "tear" in pretty much the same spot every time. A cloth strap is better for this due to its inherent flexibility which allows it to be pulled upwards. So I would add that one should not buy the elite head strap ever so long as it's made solid and inflexible(at least in an up and down motion).
Makes sense I've had my elite strap for a while now and it's fine also some people say it's from people pulling on it like how you do with other headsets
Exactly, you have to turn the dial at the back to loosen it first.
No idea why people buy the official elite headstrap when you can get an unofficial one that's superior for a fraction of the price but that's another cringe mistake...
My thought exactly. People should "unscrew" the strap before taking it off. By unscrew I mean turn the knob behind the back of the strap to loosen it from your head before taking it off.
@@potatomustdie3959 i do this, and i think it definitely helps. i've had the elite strap for like almost a year and a half? and it still works fine.
Just use a different company’s vr elite strap 7:42
The cringest thing I heard when Playing a kid threw his VR headset AND is surprised it broke.

Once I kept dyeing in a shooter game in VR and I said “I would throw my hand-held-controller-thingamajig on the floor but this is expensive equipment” i guess some people just don’t think the same
The worst mistake is people give up on vr when they motion sick one time like bro if you fall while walking u gonna sit in a wheelchair for al you life 🤔
400+ bucks for something that makes you sick isn't usually a great investment for people.

If there is ever a quest 3 they might end up using aluminum ion batteries, the big draw for them is that they charge like a capacitor (they charge in a matter of seconds) with no heat limit so they shouldn’t degrade over time due to heat stress
That seems too good to be true, is there a downside to using those?
@@Jed_I_Knight I guess the downside to it is that it holds slightly less charge but something else that I forgot to mention is that they can put out triple the electricity of lithium ion batteries, the batteries themselves are still in development tho

Just bought a Quest, bought a link cable and even picked up Virtual Desktop as these two options in addition to air link as they all have their own pros and cons. Air Link has been seamless in allowing me to virtually use my desktop ( a feature I didn't think I would use, and now I can't imagine living without it) while Virtual Desktop has seemingly been the most seamless way of playing PCVR games, despite the weird glitches or lag due to bandwidth. As for the Link Cable (I went third party for this thankfully) I find it to have given me the smoothest experiences while in PCVR and definitely the best fidelity. That being said not being able to charge the device while it is being used feels like a travesty, and makes me wonder how hard would it have been to design cable that could allow for this.
People turning off guardian and then going on to play something like gorilla tag. Will end in broken furniture and/or broken bones

Sadly, I have to disagree with this one. While it might work for you to do it that way, I have had trouble trying to rely on the middle top strap (keeping in mind this is the way I first tried to do it). It moving even a little can make the view that you see, very blurry. No matter what I tried while relying on that middle strap, was that the oculus always sat just slightly too low on my face. Shortening the top strap doesn't raise the oculus up either, it just raises the strap itself because obviously the oculus is heavier than the strap. So it's always going to lean down toward the headset unless you tighten that backstrap enough to keep the thing where it needs to be. And to do that, it's likely going to be somewhat on the tight side.
Also, I think it's safe to say that if it's happening for a lot of people, then it's probably more than people not just knowing how to use the strap properly and is more likely that it just doesn't work well for some people.
I will mess with it more on my end, but I have messed with it so much already as it is. Who wants to mess with a dang head strap for hours instead of playing?
Yeah the clearest view for me is when the back strap is tight. Most weight on top strap is blurry
use both the straps :)
from playing so much vr, i have gained the ability to not get motion sick.
Same, when I first got my headset I got rec room and almost fell over when I first started moving, now I can jump off fake cliffs like nothing!

I've solved my elite strap breaking, its easy: put epoxy on the cracks (try to get it into the cracks), wait for it to dry and then put 1-2 rounds of taped over the spot. I had to do it on both sides and it's holding pretty well.
That’s not a solution, that’s a fix, something that shouldn’t have to be done to a €50 piece of technology after a few months of normal use.

For anyone concerned about Airlink, getting an ethernet VASTLY improves your airlink experience, regardless of internet speed. having a wired connection will always be better than wireless (in terms of wifi connectivity.)
I personally have good internet, and an ethernet running to my PC and i have practically no latency when it comes to VR controls. Virtually no choppiness (other than what is already produced by airlink, combined with my less than optimal hardware)
And it makes for truly the best VR experience I can imagine.
No cables, no latency, just pure freedom.
The most most cringe thing is my mom saying that phone vr is better then oculus etc and my family was against me for like two weeks
how could they?! the phone vr doesn’t fit right, it hurts your eyes, it’s nearly impossible to take the phone in and out, it’s laggy, and you have to take the phone out whenever there is an ad 😭. i used to play phone vr, i got an oculus and they are so much better

The most cringe mistake is when they put on the headset once then send it back because it made them dizzy
Honestly that's not that cringe.
There's no warning on the package unless you go through the quick-start (which out of habit a lot of people don't do), telling you to take it easy and give it a few times to get used to it. Playing something that makes you want to vomit isn't fun in the slightest, and if folks don't know they can acclimate, why would they just assume that out of the blue?
I don't get motion sick, but If I was someone who did, I would never have bothered, because flatscreen gaming is good enough for me and has been for like 20 years.
I've seen this way too often. Maybe I just do too much research, but motion sickness isn't permanent. It's something you get used to over time. You shouldn't jump into Boneworks as your first game, for example; that'll just make you motion sick in the first 10 seconds. Play something like beatsaber or a stationary game first.
@@SwiftSN I did that research, but a lot of people don't. And that's the problem. Facebook markets the thing to everyone but then assumes the person pulling that Quest out of the box is at least a passing VR enthusiast and knows to take it easy at first.

That last one is so important in VRChat. I have been a victim of harassment and sexual harassment FROM kids like this who are like 9-12 years old who are being influenced by awful edgy ppl and telling them to moan in ppl's ears or say perverted or inappropriate things is funny. Parents need to do a way better job at monitoring their kid's internet usage. Even just being near them when they're playing in the living room can change your child's experience as they won't be prone to taking that advice from strangers w/out you intervening.
The cringiest mistake I see others using is in Rec Room, when they scream or swear to you at the top of their lungs. Also, great content! I've been binging all of your videos recently cause I've been interested in the quest 2.
And mess up everything you’re trying to do, like play 8ball pool

The PCVR one is so real. I normally run an 11th gen Core i5 and RTX 3060 with link cable, but recently I tried it on my old pc with a Ryzen 5 3400G and Vega 11. While it was "playable" to an extent, I had to lower everything down to 0.7x res scale in the link app and in beat saber with 80% resolution scale and all the settings down to lowest, it felt around 20 - 30 FPS. I couldn't imagine using it on anything lower spec than that.

@@appleua4807 I’ve already sent a support ticket.
It's also priced at like a million dollars so no thank you. The cringest part of it all is that Oculus tries to sell you this thing when it should be the default strap, instead of the one you get straight out of the package. That's some high-level Appel-like marketing bullshit.
rip I hope you get a free replacement from oculus
Get a Vive DAS and 3D printed adapter kit. The "Elite" strap is almost as trash as the stock one.
Something about the last tip is that treat online vr like real life. You are playing with real people in a realistic environment so just be nice

I have nothing but respect for someone that knows his stuff, thanks man! I learned a lot!
except, what windows 7 actually looks like lol. He called windows 10 "windows 7" like three times in this vid, but he says good shit that's actually useful.
Trying to play PC VR is like lawnmowing, the engine powers the blade to cut grass. In this analogy, envision the PC as the engine and the headset as the blade. If the grass is too thick, the engine will struggle or even shut down. The same concept applies. Just like a lawnmower might not handle thick grass, a high-end gaming laptop/desktop acts as a tractor that can effectively manage the demanding tasks. It provides the necessary power to handle the thick grass, or in this case, the intensive gaming requirements.
I cringe whenever somebody wipes their lenses with their shirt 😬
Nooooo 😭
I did this with my quest 1, and taught myself not too after a bit of dust took up a bit of my screen making it impossible to play beat saber.
my cousin somehow left it greasy and i didnt have a microfiber thing, i had to clean it with a cotton wet thing, i still havent scratched my lenses, they are okay, but now i have my microfiber clothing in my pocket
I got to stop doing that haven't scratched it yet but might in the future
06:40 that's another plus to the link cable the battery empties slower due to it charging a small bit while hooked to you're pc *not nearly as much as the charger does but after a 4-5 hr play session in VRChat i only go down like 10% and that's being generous
So thats how people do superlong sessions
My headset doesn’t lose battery at all when connected to my gaming laptop. Maybe it depends on your port and cable? I can play VR Chat for hours and it stays charged.
My god, my eyes would leave my sockets if I played VR for 4-5 hours
The side straps on the headset are also used for when you are playing a game that requires you to quickly jerk your head back and forth and even down. If you had loose side straps and looked down fast the headset you fall right off.
6:47 i realised i left my quest charging for 4 and i sprinted to take it out

The most cringe thing i have done is using my headset in a not illuminated enough room. I realy thought I broke it, then I turned on the lights and the problem was fixed.
Lmao this happened to me the other day. Started playing before it got dark, played for a few hours and started getting bad tracking. Ripped my headset off and the room was almost pitch black lol
I'm looking to get a Quest 2 and that's a good thing to know. Thanks for sharing. XD
The younger users problem gets worse I was playing on the quest 2 when a few people who sounded like they were way to young for the game were talking about how to barley know multiplication like how
I cringe when people just set their headset out in bright light without a lens cover. Just put a shirt over it when you aren’t using it or something.
i always make sure mine is facing away from the light and i have a lens cover.
I always put mine back into the box. It literally takes seconds, and removes the clutter which a freestanding headset and a pair of controllers would create.
I mean, I've got lense covers as well - but the retail box is a really good storage container for it, to a level where the official carrying case almost seems dumb, unless you're really crammed for space :)
I just place it in a drawer I have in my desk, fits well no light goes in
The rear strap tightness thing kills me. I learned that the top strap should be the tightest and it saved me
Another smart thing to do would be to wear a hood while playing
My friend has an oculus and someone was spamming like that and my friend told him that it could cause epilepsy and the person stopped doing it forever.
you are honestly my favorite vr youtuber at this ppint
"Don't let the quest overheat"
Quest 2: has the literal worst thermal management I've seen, to the point I've considered disassembling it and drilling some holes in the front plate to improve ventilation.
A common mistake I made when I first got the Quest was not use a mat or rug to help me stay in place while playing games
Also the little strap groundings on each side of the vr are adjustable and actually really help with comfort
Cringiest mistake in my opinion would be doing anything to damage the lenses, I stress so much about somehow leaving them at an angle where the sun will get into them.
I bought a brand new lap top about half a year ago and the quest 2 recently. Was so annoying when I found out that it is literally just under the bar for graphics card power

cringing at people who ask why they can’t see everyone in vr chat on quest
i think everyone goes through this at some point
?
thanks for your video! usefull!! may i ask you a question? Iam using OTT and set encode resolution to 3648 and encode bitrate to 500 (original link cable). Is it better so lower the encode bitrate to 400? iam not sure because i feel the games are smoother with 400 instead of 500. Are this settings going "hand-in-hand" ?
Me who doesnt get dizzy in VR: Whats motion sick again?
I feel so bad for the people who spent $100 on an oculus link cable thinking it would work on there windows 7 laptop
Its also a good charger
@@The-Imperial-Gamer yeah but not worth $100. Also even if u do have a windows 10 pc and everything I don’t think the oculus cable is worth it. I have a $25 kiwi design oculus link cable and or works just the same as the oculus cable. But cheaper. Don’t get the other rip off link cables though. The only good budget one is the kiwi design
@@knox3309 i got one for Christmas with my oculus and my computer is not vr ready so I just use it as a very long charging cable
@@The-Imperial-Gamer yeah but all I’m saying is that you can get the kiwi design cable in the same size or bigger then the oculus link cable and it has the same power. But it’s cheaper. And it can also work as a charger
@@knox3309 ok noted
From experience, I think the gorilla tag community is extremely screwed up. It’s only about 20% of the community that hasn’t been racist, homophobic, or just straight rude to other players of lower ages. People need to get a grip on reality and learn how to give basic respect
The biggest cringe was probably the link cable, I spent quite a while figuring out if my PC could run VR, so its safe to assume not all PC's can run VR.
The easiest way to find out if your PC is able to run VR is to use the Steam VR Benchmark program and let it run in the background for about 5 minutes.
@@RoboLivestreams no that’s not accurate
@@dreamedfriend didn't say that it ever was, but it could be a reference.
Biggest mistake ever is giving a 8yr old ur vr headset to play gorilla tag and he throws it across the room (R.I.P. Quest)
Cool video, with commendable advice, and a nice cringe meter. I am (after years of thinking about this) just getting into this.
While I already have a (music) UA-cam channel I intend to start a new one about my VR journey. Today I made the ultimate choice: which headset and what computer.
IMHO the Quest 2 with suitable accessories is the best choice in March 2023. Ticks on all you don't do's, and I have a few must-dos. This is going to cost me (total) around AUD 4,500.
Money well spent I feel. So see you soon in VR.
PS: I am a software engineer so I am looking forward to using Unreal Engine to create some new immersive experiences.
I understand about the younger kid bombarding thing but kids get hella bullied for just playing it
If parents let little kids try it out and play let them. It’s just kids. I’ve played with 6 year old on Population One and he was telling his dad how awesome it was. I don’t want to get peoples accounts banned because kids want to experience VR online and have blast.
I wish they would put the warning big on the box to prevent getting banned from Meta Quest and having to buy a new Meta Quest and making a new account
I just really want to thank you for making this video because I just got a quest 2 a few weeks ago and this really helped me with why my tracking wouldnt work
My literal first day on the quest a random guy showed me how to fly in horizon venues and I had a spirited debate on whiskey with two other lads, reminds me of classic lobby chat
So I have a halfway decent budget gaming setup that I built myself. I’ve got a newer core i5 unlocked, and a GTX 1060, 16 gb of decently fast RAM. I can run steam VR, and most low-resource VR games fairly flawlessly. But even my rig runs into issues with games like Star Wars squadrons in VR. I plan on upgrading the GPU eventually, and I may also upgrade the processor shortly after that. But right now to do so would cost more than I spent on the entire PC. And I just don’t have the cash on hand to do that. So I will live with the imperfections for now until I can. Hopefully my learning to code will pay off for me.
VR chat is so bad for overloading the headset sometimes.
I don’t know but potentially the elite strap could be dry rotting if let in the sun or near a window it could do that
Hi! Epileptic here.
It's very scummy to throw people into seizures!
Especially in poker stars vr I'm chill with kids being on our vr spaces long as they don't get obnoxious.
I have sensory processing disorder. The "squeakers" and small children doing that cause mental breakdowns for me
I tried Echo VR. It was just full of toxic kids screaming and calling anyone and everyone every name under the sun.
I will not be going back to it.
I have a Link Cable that came with my Quest 2, but my laptop doesn’t have a USB port that matches it, so I tried Air Link, only to find my laptop’s graphics card just barely doesn’t meet Oculus software requirements. So, this means I can’t play SteamVR or any other sort of PC VR game. All of that effort, only to find I have an unfixable obstacle.
