We all need our own personal Sanjay Gupta in our lives. 🙏 I wish there were thousands of doctors as calming and reassuring as you. You have such a rational and sensible way of putting things. Truly a gem.
Thank you Dr. Gupta. For the past 15 months, I've been eating a 100% whole food, plant based diet, with no added salt, sugar, oil plus no meat, chicken, fish or dairy. My diastolic readings have been "periodically" dropping below 60. Listened to your video.....added a very small amount of salt to a glass of water.....drank it down and my diastolic reading went up to 64 from the prior reading one hour ago of 55. Thank you for such an easy to do action item!!! I'll keep testing it out. Much appreciated!!!
My husband has congestive heart failure. His cardiologist has been caring for him since 2013. This summer his blood pressure started running at about 90 over 60. His cardiologist said he's fine. Today he had minor knee surgery because he had an infected bursa over his knee cap. Infection began on Saturday and the surgery was today on Tuesday. They began treating his Infection yesterday (Monday). So, today after surgery his blood pressure began dropping. At one point it was 60 over 22. After I refused to take him home when his bp started dipping at like 81 over 50, they began looking for a hospitalist to sew him. I realized he hadn't urinated since 10:30 a m., and it was past 6pm. The nurses didn't seem to think that was important. His hands had become very cold. His appetite isn't very good. I pushed to keep him there and get his bp figured out. Thank God I did. At its lowest it was 45 over 22. He became fussy and difficult. He is in the ICU. They are giving him meds to raise his bp and took away most of his heart meds that keep his bp low. They're concerned that letting his bp stay low too long can damage his organs. Thank you for the great video and helping me understand why he wasn't urinating today.
Dude, you just helped my panic attack. My mother’s blood pressure has been 85-89/53-60 all day. She had a dr app today and he told her to eat salt and drink water. But she usually has high blood pressure and takes meds for it so I was freaking out. I’ve literally been googling for the past 3 hours giving myself anxiety and it’s 2am and i have work in the morning. I was afraid to let her go to sleep, i know she is dehydrated, so she’s been drinking lots of water plus i had her eat some salty soup but i was still worried .... thank you.
Unique Jackson Yes it has! She was just dehydrated on top of taking her high blood pressure pill which I’m sure made it lower. But yes thanks for asking!
Great vid thank u! My main symptom with low BP (typically 90/55 at it’s highest) is FATIGUE. You didn’t mention fatigue as a symptom, but it’s a big one.
Thanks Sanjay. I had Afib today and was taken by ambulance to hospital for 8 hours. I had my heart restarted by shock to get back to a sinus rythm. I go home and later that evening my pressure went down to 45 BPM. I have no other medical conditions but am overweight and under stress from work. Your advise about fluids, salt and and not being overly caution/ cavalier about the numbers saved me a midnight trip to the hospital again. I will keep listening and enjoy your video's.
This is a fantastic, insightful video that harbours no scaremongering whatsoever. I have recently been diagnosed with it as the reason for my fainting and migraines but nothing was explained. I guess now the right thing to do is drink lots of water and start using salt & then I'll make a good recovery. thank you very much!
Rebecca Lauren, hello.. I am experiencing this same thing right now with having low bp and headaches and extremely dizzy sometimes... how did it work with trying to add some salt to your diet? Thank you in advance for any insight!
My pal asked my look up t.co/GsO1JmyXtf , the blood pressure solution . His blood pressure level was stroke level 158/120. I opted for clean eating and this to get it down swiftly and it did. In two weeks his blood pressure level dropped to 128/84 thanks to healthy eating.?
You are universal/ international cardiologist . The best , the honest and pragmatic. My worry about low blood pressure is no more. I feel 100% well but was worried because my lower blood pressure has been 58-59. Thank you.
Oh my goodness, this was such a refreshing video. Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. My blood pressure is usually 85/58 to 101/60. I am not obese or overweight and petite in size. I am constantly researching and learning new things, a voracious reader and a yoga instructor. My brain is very sharp and alert. There was only one incident that caused concern was when I was at Mexico City airport that I felt dizzy, disoriented and went to the floor. The paramedic said that the elevation of MC which is 7000 above sea level and my low blood pressure (which was 89/58), could have caused the incident. When I returned to my home country in North America, my doctor did some tests of my heart, which were all normal. Since then I have not had any other incident and take my BP on a regular basis with a home device. Thank you again Doctor Gupta, this information from a cardiologist is what I have been waiting for, I have subscribed!
Thank you Dr. G. UP AT 117AM WITH 98/54 and found your video. I feel fine, no issues other than super low blood pressure when laying down. My PCP has not been much help but to throw me in meds with bad side effects. I can sleep now. Thank you so much.
Thank you! Especially thanks for the 80/50 example. I often have BP this low and average about 105/75. I have often been told by health professionals that this is too low. Your video has clarified this for me! I feel fine, I eat well and I am very active. I'm not going to worry about it anymore :)
Yeah I had 114/50. I’m very fit, I lift weights 6 days out of 7 and run or box every other day. My nurse told me that I must just be really physically fit and that my blood pressure is actually an indicator that my heart is functioning at an especially good rate because I’m so physically fit. She said it was a good thing but I still was paranoid and had to check it out lol most things online are pretty scary about low blood pressure. This video helped a little bit
I have to take two different pills to keep my bp in check. Four days ago, I started to feel dizzy. When I found out my readings were 96/57 for two days, I stopped taking my medication. This afternoon I watched this video and followed the doctor’s advice to take in some salt. I drank a glass of warm water with one tsp of salt (pink Himalayas salt). Three hours later, my bp is back to normal at 125/68. Thanks Doc.
At this point can you get off one or both of the BP medications? My BP is getting lower each day to safe levels with my one medication and walking and eating healthier. I want to be off of this medication.
I've been on an extremely low carb, high fat diet (mostly saturated everything cooked in butter) no sugar for 12 months, fast from anywhere from 18 to 72 hours. I'm 51 and my systolic is never over 100 now. I have just had a hot shower this evening after 30 minutes on the treadmill and my blood pressure was 82/58. It used to be about 135/85. I believe I am in better physical shape and healthier than when I was 18.
Sanjay, thank you for all this information. I always as a Nurse explained the numbers are just numbers. Also teach them to drink fluids to maintain input /output at a balance level. (Equilibrium/homeostasis etc). I found it really frustrating that the nurses and the Drs don't explain these basic information. I am a retired nurse and still provide this basic information to everyone in my Counselling/health promotion work. Yes, salt, Magnesium etc taboo subjects here in the Uk. Lucky DeSilva, how lovely to come across enlightened UK based nurse. I work with elderly & see lots of unnecessary suffering as doctors lack knowledge on how to support our bodies properly before disease develops.
I am 41 y.o. (m), and for as long as I remember I have a low blood pressure. 90/60 is my normal BP and I function pretty well. I try to be active and avoid junk food. So far so good. Some athletes have low BP and it is normal for their bodies.
i am 53 and was warned about my 9x/6x blood pressure as being dangerous. 5"6" tall and thin but never have any symptoms. Lots of energy and warm everywhere. I use a lot of salt and eat a lot of meat and fat. Only sugar and processed foods i avoid.
Low blood pressure has been severely affecting my life. There is a reason I measured it the first place! The problem is that I don't know what caused it!

Dude! Watching this has put my mind at ease. I eat super healthy (whole plant foods - and no meat/eggs dairy) and cycle 30kms to work everyday. My BP gets down to 85/50 and I was getting rather anxious about. No dizziness and I feel fine. Thanks so much
Thank you so much for this video about low blood pressure. This has worried 😢me for along time. I’ve never had anyone explain low pressure before. Now I can ask myself this questions when I start to worry about my pressure and you are giving us solution to do something about it. Thank you so much , for all the information about our hearts and now low blood pressure. You are a unique Doctor 😊❤️👍
@@YorkCardiology Doctor i am 33 years old male, not on meds. Getting low blood pressure for no reason and dizziness. Ecg normal and blood work though. SOmetimes have low heart rate around 50s.
I’m pregnant and third trimester. Took blood pressure last night as felt very dizzy while lying down, blood pressure was 99/49. I drank an electrolyte drink and it brought it back up to normal.
Thanks so much. My BP has been really low lately, as well as my pulse rate, although I feel just fine. I’ve been exercising and walking in the mountains for a while. Now I understand a lot better!
Has anyone had doctors that completely refuse to help you, give you meds or just are very rude about your problems. Mine told me too low is better than too high and that they have stopped giving blood pressure-highing medication. Felt so belittled, dissed and disrespected!! Anyone else?
Use DGL from health food store to raise your blood pressure or Himalayan pink salt several times a day. My husband saw my blood pressure once read 60/40! Once when a doctor took my blood pressure he kept trying to adjust the machine until my hubby informed him that my usual blood pressure is very low to the point I should be unconscious!
Hmmmm in that case u better to go to other Dr for second opinion. Because a dr should give u better idea of about what we are facing, how serious it can be and how we should make it better.
Samir C. Cat exactly the same experience. I also had a doctor laughing at me when I came for help with constant dizziness. This is a problem I’ve had for years which had recently worsened and I ended up in the hospital. But the a&e diagnosis seemed to be the best joke my gp had heard for a while. Feeling helpless and not knowing what to do - I find myself here trying to find anything that could help
Thank you. I have lived with low BP my whole life and constantly tell medical persons not to panic. It's my norm. But it's nice to be reassured. Especially about the salt.
So is the blood pressure medication he was on causing his blood pressure to get too low or is it the heart failure that's causing his blood pressure to be low?
Loved this guy for YEARS! (I think we met once at a conference many moons ago too)… Been dealing with a very rare medical condition and upon stopping my meds been hearing more about how my blood pressure is low now but it always has been! (Ironic since my Dad has high blood pressure…) Thank you, information crushes fear!
You are my angel Sir! It was only YOUR video significantly lessened my anxiety Amit my low mv blood pressure of 110/67. Thank you Sir!!!!! New subscriber here! Oh, and yes I clicked the bell!🙏🏾😂
Wow! This really helped me! I’ve been from dr to now, a cardiologist and neither told me to up my salt intake. Blood pressure has been dropping and I rarely use salt. Thank you so much for sharing this
Wow!!!! Best Cardiologist ever very well explained. THANK YOU,THANK YOU and THAN YOU. I was very Concerned about my father’s Low blood pressure now I feel more Comfortable 👍🏻
So glad to find this. I got 113/60 on an at home tester yesterday and I got concerned. I don't get dizzy or anything, and I teach high intensity and dance fitness at least 4 times a week. It's basically just the number concern for me. Thanks so much!
Thank you for this. My blood pressure is normally low but it has been a bit lower then normal and it had me worried. You put my mind at ease. Thank you ♡
It's actually funny because high blood pressure runs in my family and I went in for a checkup today almost positive I was going to have high blood pressure. I also eat way too much salt which was another reason I was worried about it too. He didn't tell me the exact numbers but I was surprised when he said it was quiet low so that's why I'm here doing research.
Me too! This is exactly what happened to me today. I eat too much salt and family has high blood pressure and I got told today mine is low, hence why I feel so dizzy and lightheaded!!!!
"THANK YOU!.."this mornin I passed out at work!.."my boss called the paramedics they thought I was "UNDER INFLUENCE" the paramedics came out & check my blood & blood pressure they found my blood pressure "WAS LOW" & I was dehydrated!.."had i been under the influence I would have been "terminated! on the spot.."I was given "SALT & WATER I'm back at work & I'm doing fine!
Thank you so much…I’ve watched many of your videos now and you are doing a wonderful thing with your videos. I have never had a discussion with any Dr. Who explains things so completely as you do. And in such an understandable and calm way. You have helped me greatly with this issue and PVCs.
As a very active person I lose lots of fluids during exercise and other recreational activities, thus irregularly becoming unusually tired, as a result of low blood pressure. I understand the cause and remedy = increase fluid & salt intake (Considering that there is no other problem). Thanks Dr!
You are a reasonable man. Thank you for the video and thank you for not being an end of the world alarmist! Lol but seriously thank you for the video and information.
Thank you for this very informative video Dr Sanjay Gupta. I have one question though and would really appreciate some advice. I have low blood pressure myself. My Systolic is usually around normal levels Usualy around 110 - 120. But what is worrying me is that my diastolic is always very low, usually around 40. So often my blood pressure is 120/40, that is a pulse pressure of 80. The gap in between this numbers seems rather large? Is this something to be concerned about? My GP never seems concerned but my blood pressure is always higher when in the doctors office so its a struggle to proof to them how low it really is. Just to add I am male, physically active, in my late twenties. I do get a little light headed now and then when playing sports of lifting weights but nothing major, I have never passed out. I have a low resting heart rate of around 45 BPM. I wouldn't say that is because I am super fit but more my heart rate has always been slow, this is also the case with my brother but he doesn't seem to have the low blood pressure issue I have. I would really appreciate your advice on this, thanks.
Thank you for the clear explanation. I have been recently diagnosed with DCM with an EF of 20% and the medication is causing my already low blood pressure to drop even lower. I do get lightheaded occasionally and I get worried. I will try to add just a little salt to my diet, as I hardly have any, except what is in foods that I buy in packets. I'm monitoring my BP every day.
My husband has the same problem . His EF is at 25% with low blood pressure. They put him on pills that lower your blood pressure even more. Don't get it?
My blood pressure has been always low to the extent of 70/40. Since then I always think of it. But I,'ve found your video, Thank you for the information, my anxiety is somehow lessen.. 😊
Thank you Dr Sanjay, very insightful. I have had a couple of blackouts through the years, generally when I get out of bed in the middle of the night, had one last night, and have the bruises here and there this morning. I run about 30km per week, been eating alot healthier lately, bloods all good, but very little salt in my diet, and coming into summer here in NZ, and I can lose 1.5 litres on a 8 to 10 km run, all points to being low in both fluid and salt. Thanks again, you are a blessing to so many. Take care, Merry Christmas. Ross, Nz
Thanks for your adviced doc.You answered my fears about my blood pressure. Iam so much worried because my blood pressure is low.96 over 55 pulse is around 61.But when i heard your short explanation nothing to be' worried. Thanks thanks doc
Yes thank you for this info. I was concerned about my blood pressure , and you put me at ease. My B.P. dropped steadily after eating Flax seeds for 8 days. I have been lowering my blood pressure meds.. Again thank you for this vid..

Clarity of the subject, the presentation and more than that the heart to share the information makes Dr.Sanjay's great and different. Thanks Dr.
I’m pregnant and third trimester. Took blood pressure last night as felt very dizzy while lying down, blood pressure was 99/49. I drank an electrolyte drink and it brought it back up to normal.
Doctor you are amazing.. you don’t only understand people’s heart but you understand their brain too… good bless you..
Thanks so much. My BP has been really low lately, as well as my pulse rate, although I feel just fine. I’ve been exercising and walking in the mountains for a while. Now I understand a lot better!
😭😭😭😭😭 I wish you were my cardiologist.....im tired of suffering
Root canals?
Thank you Doc for clearing up the numbers for low blood pressure
You make perfect sense! I was worried about my low blood pressure, but not anymore. I will continue to use my salt and drink my water!👍🏻
@@MIncoMiss You do need more salt to obtain water more..too low in sodium will make bp very low. Drink water also.
Look in to dysautonomia, vagus nerve issues..
You just helped my health anxiety along with hundreds more my bro, thanks so much
Thank you so so much, I feel so much relieved after listening to you! I thought I was dying! May God bless you!
Super invaluable information for us the non medical population. Thank you. Blessings.
This is exactly what I was looking for ! Thank you so much my numbers are 80/50 pulse 50 odd. Lots of running work on feet . . Fit
Pls. Check your blood count
Thank you. I have lived with low BP my whole life and constantly tell medical persons not to panic. It's my norm. But it's nice to be reassured. Especially about the salt.
So is the blood pressure medication he was on causing his blood pressure to get too low or is it the heart failure that's causing his blood pressure to be low?
increase in salt and red meats helps with low blood pressure
Thank you. This made my day. Wish you a great week. Jan from Norway
Thanks doctor I got s o scared when my pressure said 93/63 I was so worried you saved my life God bless you

Wow!!!! Best Cardiologist ever very well explained. THANK YOU,THANK YOU and THAN YOU. I was very Concerned about my father’s Low blood pressure now I feel more Comfortable 👍🏻
Ya dr I was very much worried about my low blood pressure now you make me tension free.
So glad to find this. I got 113/60 on an at home tester yesterday and I got concerned. I don't get dizzy or anything, and I teach high intensity and dance fitness at least 4 times a week. It's basically just the number concern for me.
Thanks so much!
Thanks 😊
You gave the best LOGICAL explanation which helped me to get rid of my worries. Thanks
Thank you so much for the thorough explanation! Much appreciated.
OMG Thank you so much. I know this video is like 5 years old, but thank you.... THANK YOU
Thank you for this. My blood pressure is normally low but it has been a bit lower then normal and it had me worried. You put my mind at ease. Thank you ♡
You make my day , every day . Not only my bp went down by listen and watching ur videos, I also lost some weight. I love you Dr Gupta .
Aw I rely on you so much to give me peace of mind I had a low. Bp usually high panicked me all day iv cmwf down now I’ve looked at this thank you
"THANK YOU!.."this mornin I passed out at work!.."my boss called the paramedics they thought I was "UNDER INFLUENCE" the paramedics came out & check my blood & blood pressure they found my blood pressure "WAS LOW" & I was dehydrated!.."had i been under the influence I would have been "terminated! on the spot.."I was given "SALT & WATER I'm back at work & I'm doing fine!
Very useful video, so simple, any one can understand. Thank u so much Doc
Dehydration can cause low or high bp... You need salt and water.
Did it happen again
Thank you Dr. Gupta. That was the best explanation of LB I have ever heard!
You are amazing doctor. Thank you so much for easing my mind a lot.
Thanks Dr!
Really good video ☺️ I'm so worried my daughter blood pressure was low but after watching your video I am so satisfied.
You are a reasonable man. Thank you for the video and thank you for not being an end of the world alarmist! Lol but seriously thank you for the video and information.
thanks you:-)
Thank you for this very informative video Dr Sanjay Gupta.
Wow! Really?
What a wonderful teacher!
Anxiety gone! Thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks 🙏
How are doing today brother?
My husband has the same problem . His EF is at 25% with low blood pressure. They put him on pills that lower your blood pressure even more. Don't get it?
Ounce again you put me at ease! Randy from Albuquerque new Mexico thank you!!!!!!
My blood pressure has been always low to the extent of 70/40. Since then I always think of it. But I,'ve found your video,
Thank you for the information, my anxiety is somehow lessen.. 😊
Oh gosh, you just relieved my anxiety. Thank you so much for this video,
Thank you Dr Sanjay, very insightful.

Thank you Dr. Gupta for all of your videos. God Bless you abundantly for sharing.
I rather be on the low side than high side.. Less stress on the heart.
But it makes u weak tho
No,it's also very dangerous
Yes thank you for this info. I was concerned about my blood pressure , and you put me at ease. My B.P. dropped steadily after eating Flax seeds for 8 days. I have been lowering my blood pressure meds.. Again thank you for this vid..
