The dad in me says when you're working on the farm or around rotating equipment like engine fans please put your hair up, that is all. 😊
I had the same thoughts !!
Laura is a pretty lady, would hate to see or hear she lost her hair to a catastrophic injury. When hair is severely caught up in machinery, if pulled out the roots come with it! Be safe always!
💯 get it tied up.
Yep, same thoughts
OMG.....that was exactly my thought too.
I was about 20lbs out because didn't take in to account Grant having to use the bigger batteries. Damn it! Enjoying all your episodes and have figured what it is about Laura that makes her so addictive. It's her voice. I love it!
18000
Grant, HAPPY life means a HAPPY Laura.
My guess was 17,250 so I got close! I do believe I would fix the leaks in the engine before anything else just to make sure it was going to be capable of road worthiness! Then I would go to putting a little money in it but not before!
better than mine, i said 9-10k lol. i'm usually really good at these sort of things, totally amazed how wrong i was, wow!
That was just crazy! The weight of that truck is out of sight. Laura, you are just amazing…climbing all over that huge truck to do maintenance! You look so tiny against that beast of a truck. 😄❤️
It's because she's a sexy beast. Hustler would make her a millionaire
You were taught well girl ,those are Always the things that are checked Daily ..Only eight more to remember besides those two! Now ! You're a future driver in training ,learning how to install and wire bed Properly. !!! Makes you one step closer still ,then the hard part,!!! FIX ALL THE LEAKS the RIGHT WAY.. knuckle busters ...
I think you should fix the oil leak first and change it before putting the bed on and the exhaust pipe will make it a little quiteter
My day gets better every time you smile and say good morning. You are amazing for being so tiny, climbing up on that huge truck and moving around all over it. I knew that those military trucks were heavy, but I would never have guessed that they were that heavy. Another great video, I could watch you for hours, but I also know that it would take up so much of your time. Love your videos. Have a wonderful day.
Hello Laura and Grant, the military truck will be an awesome addition to the farm and for fun 👍👍
I guessed 13,500 lbs.- but was way off - that is one heavy duty machine! WOW! Can't wait to see the flatbed on it... (LOOKS like a engine block - "soft plug" might be leaking - easy fix... Thanks for sharing... Blessings on you both...
send cummins the serial number of the engine and they will let you know the filter numbers. You will be able to get filters for it through cummins if you can't find them anywhere else.
Great video and great job, good luck with your planting season
Hey Laura and Grant you might take this into consideration on our old 5-ton that we use for the fire department we have taken the exhaust off the front right passenger side of the truck and moved it to the back and the cab. It made it a lot quieter inside the cab just remember it's a thought take care of yourselves and each other
How fun!! Looking forward to seeing what all you do in restoration.
I checked the tire shed the other day, I have 7 tires, 6 have 75% + tread, one has 50% it currently does not hold air. The rest do, Goodyear, load range J, 9900lb rating. They are for sale. They are mounted on 10 hole bolt together rims. 14.00 X 20 they are around 48 inches tall. Please reply if you are interested . I also have "run flats" to go with if ya want them. (they go inside the tire and prevent bead from coming off when tire goes flat, like when someone shoots a hole in them?)
I’m interested! Shoot me an email farmslaura@gmail.com with more information!!
Thanks for sharing
Love you both and your Family! I have learned a lot from you since I have never been a farmer! Keep up the interesting videos! 💓
In Southern California scrap steel is currently 3 to 5 cents a pound. Before I would bother to install the flatbed or buy bigger tires, I would repair the oil and coolant leaks and make sure the truck is safe and road worthy. Here, if you tried driving with that much oil leaking, you would be stopped and probably have it impounded.
Yes but that's California.
That's the scrap aluminum price (beer cans) not scrap steel.
Super fun project. I can’t wait to see what direction Grant chooses to go with it. I vote seed tender / fuel truck.
Brilliant. Fabulous effort, fabulous people. Down on the Farm, Little Feat.
Great video thanks again
The smaller batteries work just fine. We have an old duce and a half we use as a tanker on the fire department. U will need to rotate the batteries once in awhile. The front battery takes most of the draw. If u don't rotate them, you'll end up with one dead battery all the time
GOOD TO KNOW...TY...MY EX ROOMIE DROVE A DUECE & A HALF IN NAM...HE SUFFERED FROM PTSD...DRANK HIMSELF DEAD ONE SUNDAY...RIP BRO...
In the 70's I restored a 1943 "deuce and a half" (2 1/2 ton load) Army truck (CCKW 353) like yours with 3 axles and 10 wheels. The original repair manuals were indispensable and I found them in archives in Washington DC and copied them. I had to go in person to do this.
I made a camper out of this vehicle, put at least 10,000 mi. on it on a one year road trip and lived in it for 5 years. Pot belly stove, AC, color TV, propane kitchen- a bachelor's "rolling castle".
I'm working on a CCKW now. Trying to decide if I'm doing a camper or not. Do you have a picture of yours? I have a nice 12'6" metal van body I could use on it.
OUTSTANDING MOVE BRO...THAT IS A GREAT IDEA...A FRIEND I USED TO WORK WITH HAD AN OLD US AIR FORCE INTERNATIONAL BUS...BUNK BEDS FOR THE KIDS AND A POT BELLY WOOD BURNER...KEWL SET UP!!!
Great video Grant and Laura
You Guys seam to always have a Blast!! Very Adventurous!!😊👍👊
I would never have guessed that high. I would have said around 10,000, based on the stripped-down frame. Repairs first, cosmetics later. Nothing worse than being the coolest-looking vehicle broken down on the side of the road.
For reference, our Ram 3500, single rear wheel, with a steel flatbed and driver weighs 8400 lb.
wow 8 tons of metal would have netted you a fair bit of money at the scrapyard but its more fun to see it flying down the road hope you get it fully restored
I love that big-assed shop! Soooooo jealous!
WOW, how fun to have a big boy to help out at the farm. Years ago I made a scrap run only got a penny a pound. It was so heavy I has to do some repairs to my truck.
I had guessed 16,000 lbs and the scrap price in Lethbridge AB today is $190 CAD/tonne (metric). 17720 lbs = 8.3795024 tonnes which works out to $1,592.11 CAD. That would equal about $1,250.80 USD at the present exchange rate. There is a minus deduction for the rubber tires but she didn't say how much that would be.
Yes Sir =) Dead Nuts.
Wasn’t close on my guess. Like I have commented before, you and Grant just have way too much fun!! An update on Grandpa would be nice.
If I were doing this project I would be double checking(and fixing) all of the things that flatbed is gonna make tougher to get to once it's installed, IE brake lines, wiring, rear suspension, all of the many many grease points. You started off well ahead in the game by finding one with that already off. Was great to see her running around under her own power though!! Have fun with it!!!
Laura and Grant was a great video loved it shows looks are deceiving would have guessed 14 maximum thank you both for sharing and your time was great.
My F450 4x4 crew cab weighs 11200 empty so I guessed 18000. It was close enough to call it good.
having watched the whole clip, I wouldn't be in a rush to add anything to the truck - decks, toolboxes, a winch or 2 - until the engine is sealed up...
Love it all! Blessings
Awesome video Laura Farms and have a great day.
Scrap price here in Minnesota is $160/ton. Good job , love your channel
I’m an old Army guy an I was close I guessed 18,000. I knew they were heavy.
Hell yeah love it!!
Just another fun video from a exceptional couple. Keep up the great work. Alberta Canada
The Truck like this that Heavy D Sparks has is fitted with a crane on the back! After seeing that you guys get stuck out in the muddy fields converting this would make it a valuable asset not only to your farm but any one else needing heavy lifting!!!
His truck is a newer model 5-ton.
You should see the one Demolition Ranch had rebuilt into a 4-door with a shortened frame. If you haven't already.
@@LeroyJGibbs
Matt didn't have it built. He bought it that way. He has done a few things to it, but it was already short and made into a 4 door when he bought it.
@@1977rw actually not true, Matt did have it built. He went to see the truck before work was even started, told the guy what he wanted, and then went and picked it up when it was done. Watched all the videos that prove it including those made on the channel of the guy that built it for him.
@@LeroyJGibbs post a link to the episode where he had it built, please.
for starting it easier, turn the key to on but dont turn it over for a minute so the electric fuel pump has time to work before you crank on it. I also learned a lot from "the adept ape" channel (CAT Specific) he is a master mechanic.
Good advice I think!!
It's a Cummins.
@@modacare4546 damn I forgot Cummins don’t have fuel pumps. Good thing you let that guy know, I’m sure he forgot too
On the other hand, giving it time to crank for a few moments, gives the oil chance to circulate to at least some of the bearings, before it fires. Particularly useful on cold starts, when the oil has had chance to drain from everywhere. It needs a good battery/batteries for that concept to work though.
Military trucks DO NOT have keys, they have a Master Switch on the dash. With that cobbed up toggle switch being used to run the fuel pump I am thinking there has been some electrical butchering under that dash.
In a similar truck vein I have a ‘67 IH Loadstar grain truck. One tire has “sidewall flaps” big enough to store a wallet in. Good for hauling on the farm. Still leaks though.
The Military Truck is my new favorite
love watching you guys working together on this
I think the next project ought to be getting that engine sealed up.
cant feel sorry for grant, he has a great truck and a gorgeous, talented wife.
just love these kids.
Hope & pray you both are doing well today .
That look on her face when the batteries went dead made me laugh 😂 so hard
And the " voice over"... :" what did I say,What Did I Say"...!!! Ooppss!???
Grant was your coolant coming out where the heads meet the block? If so the counter bore in the block needs to be machined and a engine rebuild new sleeves and gaskets
Great video!
You two are fun to hang out with!
Need to buy Grant a cold one for that Mandalorian moment. Love you guys.
That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw him unscrewing it.
I have a collection of military trucks. My guess was 18k without the bed they are close to 22k with the military bed.
3 tons
Bummer Dude Sweatshirts would be cool in Camo for the Military Truck.
Alright! Will See YA
Might want to look for new gaskets for the engine. Might be an oil loss from bad gasket on the oil pan.
Totally amazed how you can just drive that thing on the open road after it spent enough years in a field to make it part dirt. Try that in the UK and it's on a scrap heap before you can get your license out.
thats basically what these Trucks are Made For, Milatary stuff is Basically Hard stuff so it needs to to this otherwise it wasnt designed good :D
I wondered about that too. The local sheriff probably wouldn't hassle on the first encounter, but might expect to see Farm Vehicle plates on the second encounter.
The UK never made any good trucks tbh, you'll see an old Bedford but the rest like Leyland are super trash hence the scrap heap.
@@MrDakkyz Look up a Foden 8 wheeler with a Gardiner engine, gorgeous and will last forever. We were good once, when we were called the workshop of the world.
Grant you are a lucky man .keep up the great work 👍
How was cool the view from the back window.
If you're going to cheap out on the repairs it will always be a problematic truck, and will fail when it's most inconvenient. Do the job right and you will have a reliable, hard-working vehicle.
@HereticalBuilder.AMEN BROTHER. I would have thought a farm boy would know better than to run this truck without draining and changing all the fluids. Then find and address all leaks.Don’t wish to be too critical; they’re still kids. Learning in front of an audience isn’t easy. Like this channel, and the people on it.
@@richardscott6716 I like them too, great kids! I didn't want to spend any money at that age either, but I learned better. Repairing minor problems and doing proper maintenance in the shop is a lot easier than breaking down on the road.
OMG, it’s just a fun truck to goof around with, not some serious commercial vehicle.
@@ArmpitStudios Understood. Some of us older folks just have a different standard of repair and maintenance, regardless of the intended use. No offense intended.
@@HereticalBuilder Age doesn’t enter the equation. I’m not young and know when mechanical cares matters and when it doesn’t. No offense taken.
fresh oil in a diesel truck is black after running for just an hour.... ;-)
Sadly it happens to most diesel engines with lots of hours. I seen them run for years like that long you keep your regular oil changes up & not allow the oil to start breaking down. The oil itself start breaking down is where damage starts. From 37+ year cert. Diesel Mechanic.
I'm guessing 18200
Always something interesting
I guessed 15,000 lbs. Always enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing with us!!
Best farmers on the UA-cam
Grant: $4 for diesel is dream price in Europe. In Sweden today it's around $2 per LITER.... So around double the price you guys pay.
yeah, but you got the Swedish bikini team ,your ladies are gorgeous ...
remember thats $4 per gallon not per litre
@@noelc9961 Exactly..so it's like $1 per liter. Lowest price we can get here in Czech Republic is like $1,5 per liter. It's crazy :D
Maybe fix a leak or two and a bit of love for the exhaust too.
Like the old truck, we have several of them that we have for use in our logging operation. There's a place in Augusta Georgia (southeast equipment co.)that we get our parts from that has every part imaginable for it in stock. They ship quickly and they are great folks to deal with. We also have a great source for the tires and wheels for those trucks in Alabama. They have plenty of the large tires and wheels if you ever decide to remove the duals. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you in touch.
Laura: Mark my word.
Laura: What did I tell you? What did I tell you?
Grant: 😎😎
So, I know you said the next thing was to install the bed. The oil leak and that exhaust pipe need some love!
Investing in crypto now should be in every wise individuals list. In some months time you'll be ecstatic with the decision you made today.
@Alice Spencer How does this whole process works? I'm interested in investing in crypto but still confused by the fluctuations in price🙁
I heard that his strategies are really good
@@Sanlee578 Yeah, My first investment with Mr Dave Jevans he earned me profit of over $25,530 US dollars, and ever since then he has been delivering
He has really made a good name for himself.
My first investment with Mr Dave Jevans gave me the assurance that have made me invest without the fear of losing, I got four of my friends involved with him already
You guys are a hoot, too much fun
Well Grant I do the same thing my one tractor used synthetic so every time I change I buy two and a half gallon of synthetic oil and then I keep that clean jug because my other oil is in a separate building with my diesel fuel and gasoline tanks out behind the shop so I carry it in in that new clean jug good idea 💡
When I worked in construction back in the 90's we had three 1972 Mack dump trucks with tandem axles. If my memory is correct they each weighed around 22,500 pounds, with the dump box and hydraulics on them. They were also our heavy-duty trucks that we would use for most of our off-road hauling. I guess it isn't surprising that the stripped-down military truck weighed about 18k. It seems comparable to the Macks if they didn't have the boxes on them.
i would have expected no less from Laura climbing on the truck, never one to disappoint her fans
Scrap is around $175 a ton here in the Kansas City area.
loved this video cant wait to see the military truck with the flatbed
I retired from Truck Driving 2 years ago but the semi I drove was 16,000 lbs. That’s if it was low on fuel. Add 120 gallons times 8 lbs/gallon with full fuel tanks. So close to 17,000 lbs.
Ex soldier i drove one of this back on 1985 in Spain
We had It put a battery safe main switch so it dosen't drain over night
It is an amazing drive i love it
Thanks for bringing me back to them good memorys
In Spain we know It by Reo as It is the only Reo vehicle over here
The units Spain bought came from Vietnam so we also had many Jeep Willis
It looks like you might have there an M39 Truck, 5-ton 6x6 with the long chassis. In the US Army we just called it the "Five Ton". As opposed to the M35 series Truck, Cargo 2 1/2 ton 6x6 nicknamed the "Deuce and a Half" which we used to tow our howitzers back in the late 1980's.
Wow that army truck unbelievable that it weighs that much. Stay safe and warm and god bless.
The scrap price you are looking for is automotive scrap, which closed today at $226 a ton from accumulation (junk) yards. What a yard would pay you can considerably vary, but normally hovers around 70% of bulk market.
Fix all the leaks and the brakes first, there is good access now. Nice project!
love the mandalorian that was so nice
Wt. should be on a plate there on the dash. I should know I have the same truck, but remember that wt. is with the box on it which is not..... Just like mine!! lol!! Plus I'm just getting a bit lazy. :)
Awesome thank you for sharing! Fix up the Truck it will be Awesome for your place.
I would fix that headache rack up first. (Bend it back and re-weld it) I’d add a toolbox to the bottom of the bed as well. It’s easier to weld everything if it’s not attached to the truck so you don’t set things on fire.
Awesome
Bummed I didn’t get to meet Laura where was the booth anyway I couldn’t find it
I have a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker, 2WD, 80K miles, found it on a used car lot in NC, it got a trailer ride back to PA, almost through restoring it...
I feel like Grant's truck needs it's own merch with the proceeds going to the truck!!........he's gonna need it!!
Indeed...in particular, when it runs down " flat river" on a " just cuz" kinda day! Lol!
Our Toyota mini van is about 5500 lbs so I knew that military truck was gonna come in close to 20,000 lbs. Good luck with the restore on it!
Good job
Laura at 7:28 -- OMG funniest thing I have seen in a while!!! Girl you learned from our comments how to pour liquids from big containers -- Kudos!!! I was way off and way under the weight guess...
The reference to the Mandalorian was great!
I wasent even close, but Im from a metric country. 😜 I used to drive a Deuce and half, M35A1, so multi fuel, 5speed, Hi/all, first gen manual single wheels tandem truck. I really liked it, but I bet that one is better!
Im looking foreward to more Army truck content!
Pretty cool
That truck is so cool it makes my heart race.
I spent years as an 88M truck driver. You need to repair all those leaks. Particularly the oil leak. If you don't you REALLY WILL have 17,000 pounds of scrap metal. You also need to get the model number off the information truck tag, then get on Ebay and see if you can locate a -10, pronounced Dash Ten TM Tech Manual. I never see you turn on the master switch to turn on the battery power. That will probably be the switch above the lighting block. With a -10 manual you could identify all the dash switches and lights, and correct fluid levels, etc etc. Someone has bypassed the fuel pump (normal) electrical circuit and put that toggle switch in that you keep turning on and off. I get the fact it's just gonna be a farm truck, BUT NOT for long if some serious repairs don't get done. Spend some money now or spend a lot more later.
GRANT, 30 cents/lb. here in Western Canada. Global demand is low right now due to the pandemic so your gonna get it a lot cheaper than u would've say 4 years ago. Cheers from Canada!😁🇨🇦
I was off by 1331 lbs! Cheers from Canada !😁🇨🇦
