All them space marine chapters that try to stand out by being the most brutal, the most ruthless, the most honorable, etc, all fall by the wayside, completely interchangeable.
But the Lamenters, and the Salamanders, ACTUALLY manage to stand out by being the (relatively) kindest chapters, by being the only chapters who put their love for humanity before their hatred for everything else.

Just remember that far more successful, well funded and well respected Astartes chapter have betrayed the Imperium and fallen to Chaos for far less.
The Lamenters have successfully resisted every attempt to corrupt them that Chaos has thrown at them. While lesser chapters were seduced by promises of power and pleasure, or even the ending of chronic pain, not even endlessly grinding the Lamenters to extinction multiple times over has Chaos been able to break their resolve.
Any other Astartes chapter would have fallen a long time ago if they had been subject to even half of what the Lamenters have faced. When the universe demands nihilism, the Lamenters have chosen hope, even with all the pain hope carries with it.

He was impressed by their bravery. Then he found about all the things that happen to them and finished their crusade. If I remembering this right the Lamenters try to refuse the end of their penance but R.G. gave a direct order. Hanging his head, he will tell them he is unworthy to stand in their presence of his noblest sons. I don't know, I think it would turn out alright.
I was actually working on a 40k fanfic story which part of it is that the Lamenters somehow got hurled back in time to the days of the Heresy, and while they don't play the biggest of big roles, they do help where they can and things ultimately turn out far better than in canon.
Now, I will say that I was going to have had some rather non canon things happen, one of which was that a few of the primarchs ended up having children, through various means. And the long and short of Sanguinius' kids if that he has a older pair of twins and a younger daughter, and the Lamenters are allowed to basically be the bodyguards of the older son.
I was thinking about maybe having the Lamenters' end be more bittersweet than outright tragic, with them helping in their small way during the Siege of Terra, but sadly, becasue they helped change such major events in the past, they start to dissolve into energy or something like that, and they thank both Sanguinius and his son for helping them to finally feel worthy of being sons of Sanguinius and that they can finally rest in peace.
It's not that they're forgotten or anything, just that I thought that it would be a somewhat fitting ending that the Lamenters deserve. But they don't simply fade a way.
I was going to have Sanguinius' son basically form an off shoot of the Blood Angels legion and dub them as the Lamenters in their honor.

I actually cried at the end part.
Because if you know what they've gone through, it'll make you tear up from pride of how they've stayed loyal despite it all.
Sanguinius would be truly proud of these sons of his, maybe even more so than the main Blood Angels and their successors.

The sad yet gloriously noble fact is that this will be a cycle, That brave Lamenter serving as an inspiration will inspire that child to follow in his footsteps eventually giving his life in the same way he did. Except it's not a cycle of hate, it's a cycle of love, stoicism, and sacrifice for those that need you to be there. Bless the Lamenters, God Emperor rest their brave souls

Lamenters are truly one of the most battle hardened chapters on the 40k universe and the true sons of The Emperor because they are willing to trade their lives even for the smallest human life whereas other astartes would not even consider humans worth saving.

Longest lasting space marines are also the strongest. But living long with the memory of losing so many friends would be the most difficult thing one would have to endure :/

Having watched this multiple times now, when looking at that whole video that ending part feels a little like the lamenter veteran's trauma has finally caught up with him, as he looks around at the all too familiar carnage with a tired gaze, his attention is suddenly taken by the scream of an innocent, an innocent like many of the same who die pointlessly in this galaxy, every. single. day.
But not today, she will not die this day, today no one dies pointlessly, and so he cries as his final words, a determined phrase free of lament.
For those we cherish, we die in glory.
