There are actually many chapters that have exceeded the rules for size..the minotaurs are one of them and so was the astral claws, they were literally legion strength which is why they were so distrusted, intentions pure that hadn't been able to have a founding yet.

Worth my time.
I regret only that I have one life to give for the people of the Empire!
For those we cherish, we die in glory!
One thing I realized about the artwork:
The bodies of fallen Lamenters are behind the backs of the ones still fighting.
They weren't just making a last stand.
THEY WERE PUSHING THE ENEMY BACK.
As the saying goes: best defense is an amazing offense. Lamenters just live that line, lol.
There is another detail as well: The Revised Version of the Song, can be considered to be from the Perspective of the Civilians the Lamenters saved, while the Original, can be considered to be from the Perspective of the Lamenters themselves.
In both the Revision and the Original, The Artwork still shows the Fallen Lamenters behind the ones still standing.
Even in the Original version, the Lamenters were still able to force the Enemy back.
Should also be noted. If the context clues of the opening message and the use of "monstrous sounds" in the lyrics. They not only advanced against a xenos race, but not just any xenos race. The lamenters went toe to toe with the nids with only 100 and forced them back until the bitter end.
yes, they where trying to buy every second they can to make damn sure the civilians can evacuate as safe as possible.

The desperation of the original feels more from the Lamentors perspective. But this…
This is how the people they saved will remember them. Triumphant and heroic.
Excellent work.
I like this interpretation.
id love to hear one about the battle of macragge, maybe the 1st company's last stand
Or their brothers. Keep in mind, they are sons of SAGNUINIUS.
The one who is utterly incapable of despair.
It is a good lore reason since this is a remaster
Yeah, this sums it up perfectly
Original: Desperate last stand. Revisted Version: A glorious last stand
Original is the first half, desperate defense of civilians. This version is the latter half, no escape or survival, but a battle hard fought, and even in death a victory earned.
Rather unfitting for them. Though as always this revisit by stringstorm is still good.
@@halfknight2310 honestly I agree. I'll have to sit on this one for a bit but it could grow on me
@@imightbeweasel2014
Maybe, but what if not honor can they be given? And what but honor do they have to hold onto? They suffer more than near any of their brethren, and bear their curse stoically. Something that can't be said for many of their brothers, or even cousins from other lineages.
They of all people should have fallen to Chaos. Yet they above almost all others exemplify the nobility of Sanguinius and refuse to do so. Hardly anyone would blame them. No one would be surprised. And yet they continually dig in their heels and refuse, just on principle. Their entire existence may be one of desperation, but I see this more as a way of honoring them than capturing the nature of their curse.
Honestly i didnt hear the original
My take is that the original was sung by a Lamenter on the field, knowing it was his final stand. The revised version makes me think of an Aspirant who heard the story and uses it to inspire his fellow trainees through their trials.
Either way, both are neat!
I agree
It could also have been from one of the civilians that were saved by the 9th Chapter.
Feels kinda like the new and old versions of Warriors of the God Emperor. The old one is like a Chaplain chanting into a vox grill to his brothers before battle. The new one is much more polished but lacks the same soul.
@@Victor-056 why not both? my headcanon has always been that the only reason the lamentors havent died out is with all the civilians they save they get plenty of volunteers ready to take up the blades of those who saved their family
@@seelcudoom1Aye, that works too.
Lamenters. One of the vanishingly few groups in the 40k universe that actually could almost be called "good guys."
Their small, and perhaps insignificant, presence provides a much needed contrast and nuance to the setting. Everything being morally grey (at best) 100% of the time would get pretty boring really quickly. Having a small group of noble badasses in the setting who keep doing the right thing despite the horrible consequences still counts as grimdark and makes you want to root for the unlucky sons of bitches.
@@Troubleshooter11Even if it doesn't mean anything in the big picture...as far as the Lamenters are concerned, thats okay. Every life they save, however brief, is a victory. And in the eyes of those they save, they did make a big difference.
@@Troubleshooter11Grimdark is at its best when it makes the last light shine that much brighter
No, I'd say they were morally good. That's why more than anyone else, they had so much tragedy surrounding them.
Their light was the brightest for centuries, yet it sputtered and was under threat the whole time. It is fortunate that they didn't fall to chaos, as chaos often targets the pure for its worst afflictions
…almost?
I love it, the original sounded like the 9th's Captain in the middle of battle, while this sounds like some member of the administratum heard the story from one of the survivors and thought it would be a good propaganda piece, so he hired some professional artists and singer to make this.
They would, wouldn't they? Damn bureaucrats, always turning everything into propaganda.
And trying to report the Flaw to the Ordo Astartes.
...Both songs have the fallen lamenters behind the defenders.
In the "True Version" and the "Propaganda" version, the 9th Lamenters Company _were pushing back the Tyranids!_
The only thing the Administratum did was polish up the Lamenter's golden armor to hide the battle damage and give them a professional singer.
@@Victor-056 I thought it was the green tide
Honestly, with the Sons of Sanguinius' apptitude for the arts, I like to imagine this is how the Chapter venerate and record the history of the now destroyed company.
@@mememmemsmewadOrks don't have "Monsterous Sounds", and the Lamenters _HAVE_ faced off against Orks before. They would have known what the "Green Tide" was as the Imperium had fought against the Orks on multiple occassions prior. (The war of the beast was simply a major event that raised the Orks threat level.)
By this point, the Lamenters would _NOT_ have faced off against Tyranids, and thus, would have been a "The kind [Of Foe] they have never faced against before". This song implies this was during the early years of the Tyranid invasions.
The Lamenters are the true heart of Sanguinius. Facing impossible odds and the worst luck possible yet having their purity almost unmatched. Both The Emperor and The Angel himself would look up them with infinite pride.
I have a dumb theory and I know it will never come true but I still have hope, it's that some how the Lamenters find the way to revive the angel and save him. and to add to that I think the they are perpetually tormented and have bad luck due to the Emperor, to find his true soldiers other than the banana bois they are being tested and whenever he comes back they will be is rock, his marines the ones he leads because they are the only ones other than the Custodies that understand his plan.
One of only 2 chapters that are what space marines are MEANT to be, a shield for humanity.

"the herd we held, slipped away from the onslaught!", I'm not holding back tears because of the honorable self sacrifice to defend the weak and taking comfort in their last moments that though they might die they succeeded in doing so, YOU ARE!
The original had the feeling it was sung by the Lamenters as they made their desperate last stand buying time to allow the innocents of Philositos to evacuate. This version feels like it was song by the survivors of that last ship of Philositos remembering the golden angels that descended from the sky and sacrificed themselves for them when the rest of the Imperium had already deemed them 'acceptable losses'.
Funny, I felt a similar way about it before finding your comment. Weird how the narrative of a song completely changes when the tone of it is altered,
The original song spoke of the planet Alimenta, I wonder why it was changed to Philositos in the revisited song.
“A final twenty reply” 30 died in that one verse.
Whoever calculated that an entire company of Astartes were insignificant needs to be executed for heresy.
As much as I want to agree with you, against a Tyranid invasion, anything less than a Chapter of Astartes is insignificant.

I prefer the original, but I can tell Corgi out his soul into singing this, and I respect that!

Wasn't to sure about the change at first but the artwork and singing turned out great
I agree in the beginning I was feeling a little off and didn’t like it but once the tempo started it got a lot bettrr
I can't see the artwork with all this water in my eyes 😢
Quite lord tzeentch
FUCKING TZEENCH being unsure of change!?!?!?!
what sort of 4th-degree inter-dimensional warp fuckery is this?
Original: how the 7th company lamenters sang of themselves during their desperate last stand
Revised version: How the chapter sang of them afterwards, how the Blood angels understood their final mission, how the Imperium and more importantly the civilians they saved remembered them..."
Unless I’m mishearing the singer is an Apothecary, he claims;
“Although your stomach is tied in knots; I can’t prevent every loss.”
That sounds like the regret of a combat medic who is working hard to not just fight but keep his brothers standing.
Other chapters will fold and buckle with the curse the Lamenters have. Loyal, brave, and empathetic. And yet despite being trampled upon by so many of their fellow Astartes, Despite so much overwhelming losses, misfortune after misfortune, and Battles that continued to whittle them down, they still embody what the Emperor said when he made the Space Marines :
"They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity."
Every single human civilian, regardless of his or her role, is part of humanity itself. There is no strategic and tactical value for what they do, they care not for the accolades they might gain, nor even remembrance for their deeds. While everyone else goes for glory to further their own chapters and themselves, the Lamenters find their glory risking and going so far as to throw their lives to save people.
When the lyrics mentioned to make their deaths worth the price and to use the time they bought, they knew they will all die and accepted it. They cared not even to be remembered and simply wished for them to live. And that was enough for them.
In a setting that was perpetually dark, Lamenters are one of the small fireflies that give off a glimmer of hope. If there was anyone who would ask me who the good guys were, I'd proudly mention that the few who carry that mantle includes the Sons of Sanguinius. That one Chapter with the checkered pauldron with a heart in the middle, that one chapter who gladly gave their lives, and will continue to do so, not for the sake of pride and accomplishment, but for doing and being what the other Astartes chapters should aspire to be. Battered, broken, but unfailingly loyal not only for the Emperor and his cause, but for Humanity and its lives as well.
For those we cherish, we die in glory!
"They shall be my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear."
"A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once. It seems to me most strange that men should fear, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come." - William Shakespeare
"For those we cherish, we die in glory!!"
I'm going to have brain surgery on Tuesday, and am going to have to go on concussion protocol for a few months. I'm glad that a new Stringstorm song was released before then, especially a redo of a classic about the Lamenters. ❤🤘🤘
How'd the surgery go?
@@vemulashriniketh8109 Went great, far better than expected, thank you for asking. Compared to last time I had the same surgery, my issues were only minor (some balance issues, had to use a cane for a bit) and my recovery time was short (two weeks or so). Mom thinks that the balance issues were because the surgery depleted my cerebral-spinal fluid and my body just took two weeks to recover the supply to standard levels. People never really think about that kind of stuff, since the default state of most humans is having a ready supply of all the chemicals we need to function.

Let's go! Song redemption arc anyone?
The song starts slow, kind of timid, but HOLY EMPEROR, does it embrace itself right after.
Awesome work, as always. The poor Lamenters finally get the win of a revisited theme song!
Damn what the other chapters say and think.
The Emperor and Sanguinius would be proud of the Lamenters
They are my bullwark against terror. Only the salamanders equals them in terms of devotion and compassion over humankind.
"Bound to blades are unflinching hands, with palms holding the promise of peace restored,
A God-sent wall that gold adorns..."
Chills, every time.
The original tells the story of how bad the Lamenters have it, their curse and luck damning them to a desperate last stand
This, reminds us that despite all that, they remained loyal to the very end.
And that they are Sanguinius most loyal and noble of sons. So many other chapters of space marines have turned traitor for less they stayed true.

They have worst luck, but they have biggest hearts in the Grimdark future. They never give up.
Thats what you do in a grimdark universe. You fight anyway, you save people anyway, you do what's right anyway.
It's awesome to see this song revisited. The original version was easily one of my favorites. And I think I like this one just as much. It's a different feeling. But it's definitely not bad. Just as emotional but with a more inspiring feeling to it

Yeah you definitely ironed out the imperfections from the original.
Also like others said this one feels more triumphant, powerful, victorious, probably because the Primaris reinforcements finally showed up.
Aye I always thought the beginning felt out of tune and it only got good nearing the end, the stringstorm effect

This isn’t a “remake” of the last one. This is from the eyes of one of the rescued boys who got saved by the last Lamenter company from the original version of this song, who is following in the same steps as the brave men who sacrificed themselves for other.
Like a tragic, yet, inspiring cycle. An ouroboros of heroism!
And the TTS chanting… it sounded so different, but still familiar. Like seeing an old friend after a long time and seeing how much they’ve changed; but they’re still the same person you became friends with.
I had goosebumps all the way through this is absolutely amazing
I have always loved the Lamenters since I first learned of them and your song has only heightened that appreciation of these cursed but noble sons of the Angel. Glory to the Lamenters.

WE DIE IN GLORYYYYY!!!! Oh i loved, this version is magnificient, this song is one own my favorite of Stringstorm and Hmdkids. Great job and greetings from Chile.
I got to say that I love both versions
The first one is way more desperate and fitting for the situation (but I got to admit I'm not entirely drawn to the strain in the singer's voice on the higher pitches)
This one feels more glorious and retrospective like a tale told years after (and hot damn the singer killed it in this version, I could barely find anything to be annoyed by in his performance, big props)
to be fair, Corgi wanted to go for the higher pitches for the original song
I cry for the lamenters, i genuinely cried for them, and it pains me that i can't help them.

Speechless. Finally, recognition for the TRUE SONS OF SAGUINIUS.❤
Lamenters casually putting the Salamanders to shame
As another comment put it. This rendition is heroic and almost triumphant, while the original is more desperate and defeated. This rendition is how those the Lamenters saved will remember them, as heroes and champions. The original may be what happened, but this is how it will be remembered
I don’t think Craig had a “strong” enough voice if that makes sense, but he did a great job
Well, try to define "strong voice" for this.
@@vitaliitomas8121 I would say it sounds like a recruit telling the tale rather then a song from one of the lamenter marines. Both are good they just don't sound that same.
@@vitaliitomas8121 not sure "strong" is the word I'd use.
The...vocals don't feel as emotional in this one as the last one.
I am unsure whether this is due to song direction (how the guy was told to sing) or the singer not having the same range, etc.
Don't feel like I know enough about music to really find the right words but in the original I felt the singer going from pain, to anger, to pride, etc. while singing.
Here it just feels like it's always the same baseline emotion.
I liked how soft he is, it feels like a dramatic retelling of a desperate and glorious last stand. :)
my interpretation of this is the first version was the lamentors singing during the actual event, this is the story being retold by the surviving civilians to immortalize theirs saviors, hence why its more noble sounding and less desperate
"Have you ever fought a battle you'd struggle to win, with no hope of running away? Have any of us? Have you ever, since the siege of Terra itself, dawn a weapon with the knowledge You might die? I will not see my life whored away without meaning!"
-Talos Valcoran.
I wonder if there's some Night Lords who would consider...perhaps not "repenting" in terms of fighting for the emperor, but carving down a different path of hunting those who deserve their attentions, or even protecting those who do not, if exposed to the Lamenters.
Some people disagree with the changes, but then again the battle cry of the Lamenters is "For those we cherish, we die in glory." Yes the Lamenters are not ones to simply seek glory for the sake of it, but they still see fighting for the people as the highest honor there is...
Seeing the Lamenters using a mix of Aquila, Corvus and ever Crusader pattern armor is both awsome to see but also a string reminder of their standing in the Imperium, the fact they are still using Crusader patterned armor despite how ANCIENT that armor probably is yet the captain still wears it with honour.
New art is great, vocals chilling, backing track awesome. You did a good job!
Bro is singing with all three of his Adeptus Astartes lungs !
you wonder if some how some of Vulkans blood ended up in the gene vats when this Chapter was made i mean a trait like this is more common for the children of the Fire lizard then the Angel of man but i jsut wonder if there is a bit of green under the gold
“For those we cherish! We die in glory!”
How did UA-cam not show me this 6 months ago when it first dropped. The only Chapter that deserves all the honors for doing what is right and fighting for the Imperium to the bitter end.
this looks beautiful. I can barely hold tears back
- The new background images are dope af. Only the camera panning of the second shot (where you see all the marines in line) was better in the original : it went from the civilians to the marines, from the evacuation to the actual combat, as in "okay they are evacuating, time to start the party boys".
- The singing voice is pretty good/nice to listen to. Same goes for the music.
- Still, the original's version felt more desperate (despite the same lyrics being used in both cases), which is more fitting I guess. This one feels more heroic. It's pretty hard to describe. In the original, it felt like a warrior was singing while fighting. Here, it feels like a singer is, well, singing.
TL;DR : Pretty good. Interesting to get alternate versions. Don't do that for Raylanor's Last Stand tho, it is simply perfect (it's my canon voice for Fulgrim) :P
The Lamenters will always be The Emperor's finest
Sanguinius in the Warp: *sobs uncontrollably while applauding*
At first I was iffy on this but as I continued to listen I felt that this version felt more like an actual song and started to get into it. The original felt like someone recounting a story with music in the background but this one felt like the music stepped up to be on par with the singing and the lyrics, taking the song to the next level. I like this version a lot personally, great work!
I've been listening to this for five hours now.

Absolutely. LOVE. IT!
This shit slaps, I realy love the new sound of the song. It sounds like a Lamenter's Rock Opera and thats always a win
Playing the 2 versions in synch to eachother makes it sound even more badass, like the Battle Brothers singing together in full unison!
1st listen: eh I prefer the original
3rd listen: huh this is pretty good
5th listen: FOR THOSE WE CHERISH, WE DIE IN GLORY!
Something I noticed between the two versions.
The original has a choir like feel with less instrumental.
This one has less choir & more instrumental
"i see the light escape his eyes" chills!
The first one is desperate, but I never imagined them as desperate. rather taking matters into their own hands to hold the line. This version represents that better. That they are here for the innocent, to fight for those who cannot defend themselves, and to die in their place as a defiant wall of imperial judgement
For those we cherish.
