Hey, everyone! This is a compilation video I’m trying out! Basically, I took my reviews for the Mystery Dungeon Specials, cut out the filler, recorded new intros and fixed the pacing overall with how the commercials are implemented. Figured I’d do it since these are like two years old at this point. Not sure if I’ll do too much more of this in the future, maybe just for Halloween and Christmas later on, but I had fun with it!
Hi! I’ve actually played Gates to Infinity, and this trailer covers what Pikachu THINKS the world is. Pikachu, or whoever your partner is, is an optimistic character who just bought a barren land, packed with Mystery Dungeons. She wants to make this barren land a paradise. The first chapter actually has Gurdurr as the villain, with him scamming the team along with his unevolved counterparts. And this ties into the main theme: Skepticism Vs. Optimism. Gurdurr was actually scammed and crippled by a former customer who tore down a house who then refused to pay for it or compensation for his new disability.
The biggest crime in history was we never got a full anime PMD Anime Series. ESCPECIALLY EXPLORERS OF TIME AND DARKNESS. Just imagining the Primal Dialga Arc with the "final battle" against him, and the sad ending would have been talked about for years, and might have even contributed to PMD surpassing the main pokemon games
I remember after the Team Go Getters special aired on tv and ended on a “To Be Continued” I spent weeks on end trying to catch the airing of the continuation.
These specials will always have a place in my heart, I wish they ended up being full blown series since there's quite enough story, especially great story to make it to the TV screens! Just imagine all the bonus stories from Explorers of Sky getting their own adaptations! Red Rescue Team did get a manga and I'm still looking to read it sometime!
Can't agree more. Also the Manga is great, would recommend. The Explorer games also have a Manga if you're interested. It's called Pokemon mystery dungeon: Blazing Exploration Team, but some also call it Explorers of flame.
I remember seeing the Explorers of Time and Darkness special and thought it was the first episode of a new series, having it be a dungeon of the week series with an overarching plot on how the main character can see the future would have been very enjoyable
FINALLY! IT GETS THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES!! The only series(first review) to ACTUALLY be faithful to how Pichu's ears, tail and neck are SUPPOSED to look!
That finale special feels like one big troll move. I want to see Chimchar and Piplup become the bros they are over the course of dozens of adventures with gloriously animated facial expressions and TV quality soundtracks!
These should have made these into series. I would have watched them. I’m super mad that Dugtrio straight up isn’t in the Explorers specials and Diglett gets minimal screen time. I get that they don’t have big canon roles, but I don’t care. These don’t exactly follow canon.
@@davidbeer5015 Exactly. Magnemite looks so horrified to discover that, too! I guess they thought the game still needed some charm aside from the anime.
I like the idea of learning moves being a combination of muscle memory and practicing the same technique over and over again to get a better result. (IE. Ember to Flamethrower)
I still want a PMD animated series, full length. Full Isekai level plot. solid 52 episodes over a year. like 1 new episode a week "transformed into a pokemon" plot is such a great premise imo.
A couple things I wanted to note is that I believe Rescue Team DX did kind of get some animated special, or rather, it was something animated in the game's engine showing off the origin of Team Meanies. Said short wasn't officially translated though Another more odd thing is that I'm surprised you didn't mention Chimchar's voice in the Explorers anime special, I'm like 70% sure he was voiced by the same guy who voices Barry in the DPPt anime which works so well

I wish PSMD had something like this... Even if it is the 4 PMD I played I can say with confidence that it is a contender with 1st place in my heart along with the explorers games!
The specials were like a really good fever dream, like a really good one, they were short, awesome, and yet didn't air much at all, because I vaguely remember them airing a few times or maybe it was once, the child that I was, would eat up any Pokemon content and of course, I watched the Poke-a-thon and gosh, I miss what Toonami was with their older broadcasting blocks. It makes me so happy that I have vague memories as a child of them celebrating the Pokemon anime as much as they did on Cartoon Network, it really was a different time back then.

I really loved these shorts and seeing them in the vid reminds me of how amazing the animations and how beautiful the backgrounds were. Honestly, it would be nice to have the normal pokemon anime mixed with mystery dungeon, so they both are related to each other. Ever since I learned about PMD I've been wishing the studio would make a full series about it. There is so much potential for a great fantasy adventure
It always surprises me when something I collected really does become a rare and coveted item for others because I have the Pokemon DS Lite and the Mystery Dungeon DVD that came with it. The poster that was also part of the package is literally still hanging on my bedroom wall above my bed. I'm not sure where I put the DVD, but I have it.
I watched everything but the Go-Getters episode. I did not ever like the anime series (I did like some of the movies), but I have replayed Explorers of Sky more times than I could count. I was so disappointed that these shorts and trailers were all we ever got for official adaptations of the Mystery Dungeon sub-series. The stories and concepts were always more dimensional and permanent than those from the main games and ever since I was a teenager, I searched AOOO for adaptations. I don’t want to diminish or spoiler any particular one, so I’ll just say that plenty of the stories that fans came up with adaptations with enough remaking/expansion/maturity to be just as deserving of adaptations.
I'd this spin off deserves an anime series. Or a movie. I've always wanted to see a PMD movie If Detective Pikachu could get a movie, why can't PMD? But it would be better if it's animated
Bro just opened my eyes I am enraged that detective pikachu a failed game got a movie but mystery dungeon one of Pokémon’s most successful spinoffs got only a few animated promotions makes me both angry and sad
Funny enough my first play through of the switch mystery dungeon remaster Sunflora with Chlorophyll and Solar Beam was such a monster (I was a cyndaquil and used sunny day to boost myself and sunflora)
I always thought I had dreamed up this animated special in my wild childhood imagination 😂 I'm happy to know it was a real thing I saw when I was little and was obsessed with everything Pokemon lol
Back in the day, when the Diamond and Pearl anime was released on DVD where I live, the Time and Darkness special was packed in with the Second set of the season. And a bit of knowledge, the Time and Darkness special’s “mission” is actually in the games via Wonder Mail, and the reward for completing the mission is even the same as in the Special! (even if Chatot took it from the protagonists in the special) Even more knowledge, the specials were rereleased on UA-cam for the release of Super Mystery Dungeon, and attention was brought to those releases for the release of Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX.
I would sacrifice 100 main series pokemon episodes for 1 mystery dungeon episode. The series is just way more interesting than regular pokemon stuff. It's the same game every time and the anime base plot is too.
I remember seeing that team Go-Getters special and was immediately disappointed it wasn't a series. And now I'm just very disappointed Super PMD didn't get anything. :(
05:01 OMG I still have my special edition Dialga Palkia DS Lite. Got it for my 11th birthday and yes it came with the Mystery Dungeon special on DVD, although I lost that along with the box.
I was so excited by the Team Go-Getters episode when it first came out. It was a new spin on the pokemon franchise I had never considered before. At the end of the episode, the "to be continued" text popped up and I could barely contain my excitement for the next episode. I waited all week just to watch it. Imagine my disappointment when a new episode didn't air the week after. The mystery dungeon games are still some of my favorites, but that was such a huge disservice to the franchise.
I remember seeing the animated trailers for Gates to Infinity on the Pokemon TV app. I genuinely thought there would more more to it than just the two parts and I really wanted to see what happened in the battle with Kyurem. To this day, I've still never played Gates to Infinity and I probably won't since my 3DS died.
@@PikaFleetsYolo I don't like downloading ROMs. With that said, I've got an old 2DS lying around which, since I really don't like having to use one of those wedge things with mono speakers, has basically been turned into a glorified ROM dumper. Because of that, Citra is my main way of playing 3DS games. I recall my local secondhand store having copies of both Gates to Infnity and Super, so I'll pick them up if they've still got them to dump and play in Citra.
They were fun but felt super rushed at times since it’s just an advertisement episode special basically It has so much potential for a proper anime or at least a longer special/movie or multi part special that’s at least a few episodes instead of 1 or 2 I didn’t even know they existed, I found them by chance (on a website) I wish there was more!
I remember when I was still a kid and obsessed with PMD 2 and then I randomly stumbled upon its two episodes on YT and afterwards I was desperately trying to find the rest of the episodes without any success... Little 10 year old me didnt understand there were only two episodes made
nothing will beat the beauty of rescue team and explorers ♡ the continuation of this adaptation would have been so charming, but the games stories are just as amazing existing in their current forms. they surpass the mainline series for me, personally.
I remember finding the dvd for the PMD explorers of time and darkness at uk Woolworths when it was closing down - I think I was like 7-9 years old at the time and it was like £1 so my mum bought it for me and I used to absolutely love that short and watch it every day
Man I wish I still had the box for my Dialga and Palkia SE DS, I still have the CD for PMD Explorers of Darkness in a CD case somewhere in my house, such a nice throwback
In the Team Go Getters part i spotted a mistake around 0:47 . There was mentioned that all members of Team GO Getters were Kanto starters but Chikorita is a Johto starter
It really is a shame that Mystery Dungeon never became an animated series or movie(s). I actually love this "Spin-off" way more than the mainline-series. (Super Mystery Dungeon is my least favorite out of these [not counting DX because it's a remake] and even Super is as high in my personal ranking of Pokémon-games in general as Black/White(2), Emerald, OrAs, Platinum and Legends Arceus (which comes closest to PMD storywise). I like the charm of cuteness but with more serious topics, dark undertone, great world building and diving deep into the characters and their development throughout the storyline. ❤️ I really hope the game-series isnt completely dead yet but I need something new instead of a remake.
PMD2 was an Isekai with an Adventurer's Guild before the trope became oversaturated and have weird titles XD AAAAANNNND.... no harem XD Man.... would have made an AWESOME Isekai anime with one of the best Pokemon stories ever...
I've always thought pokemon main games are of course the core but mistery dungeon is easily the best spin off series. Just think there's really no other spin off of the franchise that has 6 or 7 games. I think rangers is the third in the list with 3 or 4 games. It's a rework of the formula kinda you don't have to catch em all but befriend or recruit them. Great spin off, i hope they continue making more
When I was a kid I saw the first episode for red rescue team and thought it was the start of a new series. I honestly thought it was just a pilot that didn’t get picked up until I randomly remembered it today at 25 years old lol. It’s a shame they only made these as shorts the main games the anime bases itself off of don’t really have a story while explores of sky might have one of the best story’s of any game I’ve played ever
I agree with the the Gate to Infinity specials as animated trailer cuz in that regard it makes them seem like insanely good trailers. Once you play the game you understand everything in those trailers. It a shame GTI gets so much hate cuz while it may not have much of a post story, the main story has arguably one of the best storylines of all the mystery dungeon series.
It’s a shame we never got a proper full series. I mean these were great but they leave you looking forward to more and bummed when you realize that these were one&dones.
wish there was more of a mini series to the Explorers games because there was SO MUCH story and stuff happening between the 2 specials that it would be really hard if not impossible to understand the explorers of sky special without much context unless you played the game to the end! give it 6 episodes! explorers of time and darkness would be the first, the part where they have their big exploration in the second one, the part where they meet dusknoir and grovylefor the 3rd, the part where pokepals are in the future for the 4th, explorers of sky: beyond time and darkness for the 5th, and the grand finale with the battle against dialga and the extremely emotional epilogue for the final episode! if they do an explorers of sky remake this HAS to be a thing! it would just make sense to do that! it really is an incredible story that deserves to be shown in an animated form or something
Seeing the explorers of time and darkness shorts makes me want to go and play the games all over again. Then again they are amazing so I don't need much convincing lol
With the possibility of the explorers remake, i say they revisit it and make a mini series like they did with paldea winds pokemon origins, and more! Nothing fancy like a full series but enough to show some of the story.
The mystery dungeon games are NOT SPIN OFFS. They are the secondary series of the franchize. Also I think voice wize, I always imagined sunflora being voiced by Kristen Schaal and Wigglytuff being voiced by Gumball's dad (from the amazing world of gumball).

Or a movie. I've always wanted to see a PMD movie
If Detective Pikachu could get a movie, why can't PMD? But it would be better if it's animated
Bro just opened my eyes I am enraged that detective pikachu a failed game got a movie but mystery dungeon one of Pokémon’s most successful spinoffs got only a few animated promotions makes me both angry and sad
I wish they would do a Mystery Dungeon anime, I think it would work brilliantly for an anime series.
It’s legit infuriating that these never got a full anime series. The Mystery Dungeon games have some of the best stories in the franchise.
They really should have turned this into a full series
Funny enough my first play through of the switch mystery dungeon remaster Sunflora with Chlorophyll and Solar Beam was such a monster (I was a cyndaquil and used sunny day to boost myself and sunflora)
I always thought I had dreamed up this animated special in my wild childhood imagination 😂 I'm happy to know it was a real thing I saw when I was little and was obsessed with everything Pokemon lol
I remember these. I used to think they were coming once a year as a kid. Kind of wish their were more made
0:35 Wow nostalgia. I miss watching Pokémon on Cartoon Network.
(even if Chatot took it from the protagonists in the special)
Even more knowledge, the specials were rereleased on UA-cam for the release of Super Mystery Dungeon, and attention was brought to those releases for the release of Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX.
14:11 I've never heard Kyurem pronounced that way. I've only ever heard it pronounced like in the anime and Pokédex 3D.
05:01 OMG I still have my special edition Dialga Palkia DS Lite. Got it for my 11th birthday and yes it came with the Mystery Dungeon special on DVD, although I lost that along with the box.
It really does feel very sad that they never became a series or movie
i would love a show based on this world its so cool and would make a great show.
I really hope that they consider making this an actual full series, because like you said it ends in a cliffhanger
To this day, I've still never played Gates to Infinity and I probably won't since my 3DS died.
could probably try citra?
@@PikaFleetsYolo I don't like downloading ROMs.
With that said, I've got an old 2DS lying around which, since I really don't like having to use one of those wedge things with mono speakers, has basically been turned into a glorified ROM dumper. Because of that, Citra is my main way of playing 3DS games. I recall my local secondhand store having copies of both Gates to Infnity and Super, so I'll pick them up if they've still got them to dump and play in Citra.
They were fun but felt super rushed at times since it’s just an advertisement episode special basically
It has so much potential for a proper anime or at least a longer special/movie or multi part special that’s at least a few episodes instead of 1 or 2
I didn’t even know they existed, I found them by chance (on a website)
I wish there was more!
¿En cual web?
I'm using Colors Live to make a Mystery Dungeon fancomic right now, so seeing love to this franchise always makes me happy.
I had the Diamond / Pearl DS as a kid and I remember this special so vaguely up until now! I wish I knew what happened to the disc.
In the Team Go Getters part i spotted a mistake around 0:47 . There was mentioned that all members of Team GO Getters were Kanto starters but Chikorita is a Johto starter
It was a joke...
💀
R/woosh
Considering Grovyle's personality and demeanour in the games, I would be *_disappointed_* if his voice was anything less than what it was.
Yes! Final someone talks about this! I love PMD and I got into them through the explorers of time and darkness special.
I wish they showed MORE of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.
SO SAY WE ALL!!!
I really hope the game-series isnt completely dead yet but I need something new instead of a remake.
I named my original team on red rescue team Poképals. So imagine how freaked out I was when they named their team that
Why is it always the water starter that used to be a human??
Because a human body is 70% water lmao😂😂😂
humans:
breathe fire❌
control nature❌
can swim✅
I still have the DVD of the first one and I still love it.
Wonder what the human who turned into a Piplup's name was. Maybe something like Nick? Who knows. Kinda have a feeling it's Nick though.
PMD2 was an Isekai with an Adventurer's Guild before the trope became oversaturated and have weird titles XD
AAAAANNNND.... no harem XD
Man.... would have made an AWESOME Isekai anime with one of the best Pokemon stories ever...
I would kill for an episode based on the future of darkness from the game. Peak storytelling, characterization and emotion in pokemon
Finally! Someone is talking about these underrated masterpieces!
Remember, watching these as a kid growing up love them was expecting more wish they did because they would’ve been such good series to watch it all
I remember watching these as a kid online and thinking they were entire series and I just couldn't find the rest lmao
Dan Green Grovyle, my beloved.
Love that king.
It’s a shame it never got a full spinoff anime series I’d love to see the story told through an animated perspective particularly the first entries
Can't wait til they make it an actual series and hear everyone cry during the finale. Only video game I found myself crying over.
Great spin off, i hope they continue making more
Bulbasaur: “Do I look like a joke to you ?” 🐸🌺
When I was a kid I saw the first episode for red rescue team and thought it was the start of a new series.
5:41 he was also Knuckles The Echidna in Sonic X and all Sonic Games from 2005 - 2010
It’s a shame we never got a proper full series. I mean these were great but they leave you looking forward to more and bummed when you realize that these were one&dones.
I would love to have the Mystery Dungeon anime make a return! 💥
Gengar is voiced by Weevil.
wish there was more of a mini series to the Explorers games because there was SO MUCH story and stuff happening between the 2 specials that it would be really hard if not impossible to understand the explorers of sky special without much context unless you played the game to the end! give it 6 episodes! explorers of time and darkness would be the first, the part where they have their big exploration in the second one, the part where they meet dusknoir and grovylefor the 3rd, the part where pokepals are in the future for the 4th, explorers of sky: beyond time and darkness for the 5th, and the grand finale with the battle against dialga and the extremely emotional epilogue for the final episode! if they do an explorers of sky remake this HAS to be a thing! it would just make sense to do that! it really is an incredible story that deserves to be shown in an animated form or something
Seeing the explorers of time and darkness shorts makes me want to go and play the games all over again. Then again they are amazing so I don't need much convincing lol
I actually had the dvd for mystery dungeon 2! It even came with a wonder Mail code so you can go do the same mission from the special.
