Fun Fact: To show off PMD's amazing soundtrack, there are 10 different tracks in this video (excluding the intro and outro), which I'm fairly sure is an all-time high for one of my videos lol. Can you name them all?
I don't really know the names of the dungeons in english, so i'll take some guesses: 0- Opening 1- Apple woods 2- Kecleon shop 3- Future-related scene or time gears 4- Chasm cave? (The first dungeon in the future and Palkia dungeon) 5- The dungeon that made me/you hate Cresselia? 6- No idea (maybe in a s. Episode) 7- Lapras or departure of Grovyle 8- No idea 9: A message on the wind Anyway, nice review of PMD EOS! Have you heard of Skytemple? Ppl can hack the game with ease now and some are very interesting.
1. Pokemon Exploration Team Theme 2. Apple Woods 3. Kecleon Shop 4. Time Gear 5. Chasm Cave 6. Dark Crater 7. A Wish For Peace 8. Through the Sea of Time 9. In the Morning Sun 10. A Message on the Wind Actually, Chatot still robs 90% of your earnings in the post game.

God. Grovyle and Dusknoir's heart to heart conversation was so deep and amazed me when i first saw it. The fact that grovyle would rather die knowing he did good for the world than to live a long life in darkness and misery hit me HARD
It's especially good, because it covers the most common fear Humans have. The fear of death, the whole heart to heart moment goes a step further and lays out a solid example of what makes a "Good death" or a "Bad Death" look like. From What i've gathered in my studies of psychology, The fear of death really isn't about death, it's more like the fear of not living enough. So yes, Grovyle's stance stands correct. If you go out and live your life, pursue the goals you set up for yourself. Live as full of a life you can. Then perhaps you'll be ready to let go, when it's time. And i believe there is truth in that.
@@yaboipktendoalso they used a shiny celebi as one of the final recruitable pokemon in dx, which may or may not be a reference to the shiny celebi in sky time and darkness. But that might be looking too far into lmao
@@alfiehall2994 Its could've been Just a hint to the Zarude Movie also. But its more likely its a hint to the Sky Remake. And the Thing i'm talking about is that some Pokemon Like Grovyle and Wigglytuff had some Unused Version of their Talking Icons. Or rather a Second Version
Of all the PMD games, this one got me the most emotionally invested. The friendship between the MC and their partner really felt genuine. Not to mention all the post-game content. It's almost like having a sequel in the same game. Nowadays, you'd have to pay extra for DLC to get the second story.
There's one PMD game that is even more emotional than Explorers of Sky, Legends Arceus, and this game has a story that takes the best elements from previous PMD games and combined them into what's essentially the ultimate PMD story, think of it as a best-of, and what's even more emotional is that there's an unexpected ending once you finish the main story (i won't show it to you what it is, because it's so emotional that it's better not to know it beforehand, so you have to discover it on own), so all in all, it makes Legends Arceus the best PMD game.
I never evolved my Grovyle (gave him the Ash trestment) into Sceptile because i just love his character design so much more and Mystery dungeon gave him a voice for me !
@@colbywoolcott4096 yup me too, i just wish GameFreak did something about that like if you give your pokemon the Everstone there stats still increase even tho they dont evolve. Like with Rowlett in the anime.
I love the irony in saying that you gave Grovyle the Ash treatment but Grovyle is one of the very few mons that Ash did fully evolve lol, but I totally agree, same for me
Me too!!! I felt like I had gone through so much of the game with the little expressive portraits and it just kind of felt like I was loosing something if I evolved us. We just didn’t look like the same little ones who had gone through so much together.
Episode 5 - In The Future Darkness was honestly the peak of everything mentioned here. Story-wise, it's thrilling, emotional, and thoughtful. Music-wise, it has some of the best music I've ever heard. Not to mention, the art is fantastic, the emotions hit me harder than any scene near the end, and it teaches you a genuine lesson about life.
One of my personal favorite moments (aside from the ending) is during Bidoof’s Wish, after Wigglytuff let’s Bidoof go forward to meet Jirachi. Everyone begins to praise Wigglytuff for how honorable he is before someone mentions that Wigglytuff could’ve wished for all the Perfect Apples he could eat, until Wigglytuff simply says “Alright, I’m going.”
Not to mention that Bidoof’s wish itself is sweet too - you’re presented with a huge list of options, and Bidoof considers each of them before finally deciding that what he really wishes for is to be able to guide new adventurers sometime soon lol
Gotta say... the moment where the protagonist disappears before his partner at the first ending is the first video game moment that made me genuinely cry. I still tear up at that moment when I think back. Your partner was so excited to keep being an explorer with you forever. And suddenly, that dream is torn away from him due to your brutal choice to keep this fact a secret from him until you saved the world. It's heartbreaking to me x'D
i’m the same way. i actually cried while playing a video game. the way that they can write this story in such a way and still make it a brilliant game is astounding to me
For me i didn't start crying until your partner goes back home, and then BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS on the beach you first met them at. That... that moment hurt more than anything ever could. Hurt more than Gates, hurt more than Rescue Team. That hurt the most.
@@saihiko9967 yeah it's only in Sky in the post game. There's a special mission select screen in the title screen where you can play as other characters for specific missions.
This was one of the few games to make me cry playing it. When your character says good bye as they vanish and when the partner breaks down on the beach and the credits play I was water works. I wish I could go back in time and expirence this game for the first time all over again. Honestly it was a perfect ending and as a kid I thought the gane was going to end on a somber note right there (zelda does this all the time so I though it would) and honestly the games would have been perfect 10/10 if it had. The post game is great and I was actually tricked by darkrai pretending to be my partner, when your characters are contemplating if they should exist at all I was so immersed I felt the characters emotions. Its too bad they haven't been able to recreate this level of story telling since and now its too predictable, don't trust dark, ghost or poison type characters, the final boss now will almost always be some non Pokemon entity, either you or your partner will disappear only to come back after the credits.
What really hit me hard about the goodbye moment is that those are first words your character audibly speaks. It really feels after playing as this character throughout the entire journey with your partner you've filled his character with all the experiences you have had. Discovering the time gears, traveling through time, finding lost lands, saving the world. When the character speaks it truly feels like you are the one saying goodbye. That might sound a bit sappy, but this game is so immersive that you fully feel like you live and breathe in this world which is the gold standard for games.
Personally I got more choked up by the ending/story with Red Rescue Team game on GBA, but Explorers of Sky, and Red Rescue team will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart, I enjoyed both the games so much and over the years I've replayed them quite a bit. It is also exciting to hear there may be some really nice hacks of these games coming out.........I'd do anything to replay these games for the first time!
I remember being about 11/12 playing through explorers of darkness and then later getting sky crying over the end game. This game was so powerful in my childhood. I recently found out about randomizing this game for a whole new experience and can't wait to play it. No other pokemon game can top the story of Sky.
Hey guys, i know it's kinda old news, since i'm a few months late, but Explorers of Sky has been recreated in Minecraft, and it's not just one part of it, but the entire playable game, and it can be played by going to the KleavorMC server.
I've been going back and listening to the music of this game. My GOODNESS, the emotions this game's music hit you with are probably the most impactful I've ever felt in a video game! "Time Gear", "Don't Ever Forget", and "Hidden Land" on the OST still invoke the same feelings of adventure, sadness, and wonderlust I felt when I beat the game almost a decade ago
As a child, the most regret I’ve ever felt was when I evolved my partner Pokémon post story. They were never the same partner who was by my side fighting caterpie all the way to semi gods of the world. Only to become a simple Pokémon no different from the random recruits. It hurt.
Better than what PMD1 did. At least your partner still talks the same and will greet you and meet with you in the morning and before bed. In PMD1, they literally turn into a regular recruit, they don’t visit you anymore, they don’t follow you anymore, and they don’t talk like they used to. My heart was broken after the story in PMD1. I’m so glad they realized their mistake and fixed it for PMD2 and PMD1’s remake
I was wondering why they made you beat the POST GAME to evolve your starters (ridiculous) and then I realized it's just so they dont have to add art for every starter evo line. Honestly pretty lame.
It's amazing the amount of content and story thats in this old game. The dialogue and characters are miles better than most of the main series games (in my opinion). Spike Chunsoft went all out with this masterpiece.
@@SCP-173-4 I literally bought another copy so I could lend it out to everyone I know and then replay it over and over again. Something I’m surprised you didn’t mention was the fact that the choices for starter Pokemon in this game were improved significantly over Time/Darkness since we got mons like Vulpix, Munchlax and the fan favorite Riolu
@@llSuperSnivyll riolu is fan favourite, you really can’t say “ who even wanted riolu “ when tons of comments on this video are literally “ I’m so happy they added my riolu to this game! “ vulpix is baby nine tails who is a huge point of the first game. Shinx.... people like cats?
I spent so long not being able to beat that one lmao who knew that the guild master was so op (even though it was basically shoved in your face multiple times in the game lmao)
@@brianisgett1095 ironically, it was one of the easiest boss battles for me, defeating the guild members was easy and wigglytuff only used moves that did no damage
What I also appreciate is that no matter what point in game you're in, the NPCs in town always have a dialogue line to mention their own comment about the situation they're in. It's not like usual npcs who only have 3 strings of dialogue even though the world is falling apart. They actually feel like theyre experiencing it with the player too.
I played this game when I was a child, and to this day it is the only game that made me cry while playing it. The heartwrenching emotional goodbye between you and your partner, where you finally talk and tell them how much they meant to you throughout the entire adventure is completely perfect and a wonderful end to the main story, as you disappear and your partner cries as they have to come home alone and tell everyone what happened. It's both even worse and all the better after the credits roll and Dialga restores you to the world, watching your partner hold Bidoof and cry your name as you reappear and they rush and hug you when they realize you returned. Absolutely amazing, a wonderful story, and a perfect partner for the journey.
Darkrai has a biological need of feeding on other people's nightmares. The more miserable others' life is, the better he feels, so he kinda has an understandable motivation to do what he does.
_Darkrai has a biological need of feeding on other people's nightmares._ ??? Even in the core games I can't recall that, it's said to be a defense mechanism, not a sustenance thing. I think this Darkrai just enjoyed being a dick.
@@UltimaSpark50 yeah, if it was biological Darkrai wouldn’t have been a better guy after you defeat him and he loses his memories. Turns out he just needed a different start in life and he would be better.
I genuinely liked the Manaphy story a lot more than the Darkrai one, it's my favourite part of the epilogue. It's just so...nice, taking care of this child and than having to let him go.
I truly believe and am hoping the resent remake of Rescue Team was to test the waters for a Explorerrs Remake. On the Switch more people will get exposed to the surprising deep story that lies hidden within. Holy crap what a story.
To quote myself from Twitter, before the recent Pokémon Presents: Pokemon Platinum is my favorite main-series Pokemon game, so I'd be hyped if they announce a remake for it. But if they just ported the original Explorers of Sky to Switch, made some tiny QOL tweaks and decompressed the soundtrack, I'd pay $120 for it and consider it a bargain. Needless to say, if we got a full-fledged remake in the style of Rescue Team DX, I WOULD cry out of sheer glee for the rest of the day - which is no small feat from me.
Tell us how it went! I really hope you come to love it, if you need any advice there's loads of info on Bulbapedia & Serebii. Have fun and treasure that first playthrough 💞
How did you order it? I got sky over 10 years ago and I can't imagine it would still be sold at any stores. This game is amazing, he didn't even talk about the part where you question your own existence and whether or not you deserve to continue living with your friends during the Darkari arc. It has the best story of any Pokémon game by far.😮

The music in this game is so insanely good. Theres leitmotifs in nearly every track, giving hints and clues that you can pick up if youve got good ears. And its SO impactful. I threw my phone on shuffle once YEARS after i stopped playing and Dont Forget came on and i nearly started crying in the subway.
11:45 I think this part hits extra hard an an adult because that’s exactly what it can feel like to leave home or to move out from a house you’ve been sharing with friends. Like you know where to find them and they’re not gone, but just not being under that same roof-despite your new freedom and independence-is bittersweet.

It actually happened, however, it's not a remake of an older game, but instead something even better, a brand new game altogether, a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 5 if you want, and that game is of course Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Legends Arceus, and it quickly becomes the best Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game ever.
@@abbyp9394 On February 27th 2021, a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game was announced, but it wasn't an Explorers of Sky remake like many expected, it was instead something even better, a brand new game altogether, meaning an official Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 5 has been announced, and it's called Legends Arceus, almost a year later, on January 28th 2022, Legends Arceus was released for the first time, and it overnight becomes the best Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, overtaking Explorers of Sky in the process.

Explorers of Time and Darkness were the first Pokemon games I ever played, loved them like nothing else. Sky was even better. It's a story that holds up amazingly well and is far better than so many games in the present, so simple yet complex, and all the better for it. It was a masterpiece that really helped me get through my child, and a game you can still find worth in to this day, and through it, can find worth in yourself. Bottom line, this game is very special to me, and I'm glad there are a lot of other people who feel the same way.
Explores of sky is definitely the most in depth, challenging Pokémon game ever made. You can sink hundreds of hours into this game and still not be able to evolve
Meanwhile, Legends Arceus, another Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, is even more in depth and challenging, not to mention it's the first ever Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game to ever incorporate some open world elements, opening the possibility of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon hopefully going fully open world, as well as opening the door for other Mystery Dungeon franchises to take the open world route.
@@gone9820 Actually, it is, Legends Arceus is indeed a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, you're even a human turned Pokémon in Legends Arceus, more specifically, you're either Rowlet, Cyndaquil or Oshawott.
@@damson9470 I said that Legends Arceus is a Mystery Dungeon game because in this game, you're a human turned Pokémon, more specifically, you're either Rowlet, Cyndaquil or Oshawott, and because you're a Pokémon, you can get attacked by other Pokémon.
This is one of my favorite games of all time and I was super excited to hear your take on it. Sidenote, if you didn't cry at least once on your first playthrough, you weren't playing the game right. This game is a feels trip 😭
Sad to say, this is one of the (very) few pokemon games that I played and...I'm sorry....I wasn't impressed by. It wasn't the worst thing ever, but once the mechanics in it made sense to me, I breezed through it at lightning speed and was bored the entire time. I tried once to replay it, and ended up returning it to Family Video after a day. No replay value for me. Too bad, because it had some nice visuals and music....I'll give credit where credit is due. (And the costumes. Loved the costumes.)
@@ZeoViolet imo the game really shines with its art direction as a whole, surprising depth with battle mechanics (such as attacks doing more damage depending on if you hit an enemy from the front back etc, and the height level of a Pokémon being taken into account when attacking). I think almost all of its issues come down to balancing and pacing. After the main campaign there is a brief point in the middle of any given game where matches might be challenging, but the beginning and end of missions is mind numbingly easy. Also some maps are way too biased to one side (The ground map being heavily in favor of attackers, the psychic map being heavily in favor of defenders etc). The game as a whole is just too easy. I would also point out that bs mechanics like random traps and pitfalls don’t help whatsoever. However as a whole I’d say it’s a really good game worth at least one play through. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it, hope you had a better time with the rest of the Pokémon franchise
@@johnwood7863 It wasn't the worst game ever....it was just....dull. I remember I had a slight amount of difficulty at first getting the battle mechanics straight, as I was unfamiliar with such a game style, but once I had it down, all I had to do was look ahead a little bit, because I ended up reading the next moves for what they would be, and was seldom wrong. I just really, _really_ liked the artwork (10/10 gorgeous right there), and the music was superb. That was enough to keep me focused. If the pacing wasn't so awful, the game could have been salvaged. But as I'm one of those weirdos who plays for the story, "Rah, gotta retake the overrun Rensei castle!" got really old after a while. The only game that was worse was probably _Pokemon Dash._ I have a very strange affinity for weird off titles like _Pokemon Channel_ and _Hey you, Pikachu!_ Yes I do own them, and while I haven't hit them up lately, they still work just fine. The only main-series games that annoyed me were Diamond and Pearl, and Platinum went a long way towards fixing the....dull....slow....pacing....dragged....out....and filled out a lot of the duller plot points here and there, and what's more, we got Looker. XD
When I first named the game I didn’t want to give nicknames because I liked the original names. Since I was a kid and didn’t think of writing down the names on a piece of paper then writing them as the nickname. So I ended up naming my Turtwig “Turtwing”. Because of that I will always name any Turtwig I have Turtwing. Thank you for listening to my TedTalk.
Man, I have never touched my PMD Save Files in a while. Whenever I open the game, I feel as if I was a child and was experiencing the whole game over again. And when you finish each game, it just makes you cry every time. I truly hope they make more PMD games like these.
Does anyone think this game should get remade for the Switch? One day there will be announcement saying "Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky DX" and people will lose their mind.
Jamie Walsh yes!!! Its very possible this game will get remade especially sence it came out along side diamond and pearl. If they are making a gen 4 remakes it would only make sense for spike chunsoft to make a remake of Explorers of Sky

Don't mind me, just sobbing from a youtube review. 😭 Seriously, this is hands-down my favorite game of all time. I played Explorers of Time as a kid, and played Sky while in college and just DAMN nothing else I have played comes remotely close to this game. Pretty much every part of your video had me choked up with memories. I'm an only child, and becoming part of Wigglytuff's guild and experiencing their life was so immensely fulfilling. Having a best friend by my side through everything was something I had never experienced before. This story flows so perfectly, and even on a second time around I found myself surprised and caught off guard by the twists both because of how long it had been, and there are just so damn many! This game makes friendship love and teamwork not feel cheesy. Or I mean it does, but in the absolute best way. This is absolutely peak Pokemon. The most well written story, the most variety in gameplay, the best music, the most loveable characters and worlds.....uifhgshgdsafkj I could go on forever. The core games haven't ever achieved even a fraction of this sincerity and fullness. This game is a HUGE part of why I decided to become a game developer. AAAHHHHhhhhHh I just want to keep gushing. Thank you so much for making this video.
To this day, I use the OST for this game as background music in certain writing events. The power of emotion in the OST is astounding, and really does the events of the game justice.
Okay that's what I thought, you said it early on in the video that this is the third version of Time/Darkness. I remember loving Time as a kid and wasn't 100% sure if this was the same game. I hope this game gets a Switch remake too. Top tier Mystery Dungeon game, even among nonPokemon mystery dungeon games.
This game brings so many memories! The fact that i played it when i was a child and after watching your video, all the emotions and memories came back! You covered all the points perfectly! And yes i also do hope that in the future we will see a beautiful remake of this game!
Explorers of Darkness was my first Pokémon game when I was 8and I got Sky immediately when it came out because I loved it so much and I never regretted it. This game will forever remain as my favorite Pokémon game of all time.
My favourite part of this game was playing it with Treeko as my partner. It made me imagine that Grovyle was future Treeko from one perspective, and also see Grovyle like a big brother character to Treeko. The story just had that much more impact to me because of this subtle detail.
I agree with you on the graduation part. I remember when it happened, and I felt like something was missing. I missed Loudred loudly waking me up every morning. I missed doing the chant with the whole guild before going out to do missions. I missed occasionally chatting with my guildmates on my way up to check on the board. I missed sitting at the dinner table and eating with the others every night. This guild is one of the best gaming interpretations of what a family should be, and moving away after graduation just...hurt me, in a way not many games could manage to do.
Tbh I don't think Darkrai not having a higher reason or backstory as to why he wants to see the world sink in darkness is a flaw at all. I think the reason why he's the last boss is exactly that, he's just pure darkness, pure evil. He falls into that rare category of villians who don't have a sad backstory that explains why they're evil, nor do they pursuit a goal like power or wealth, but instead they're evil because they're meant to be evil, as if they were born to bring chaos to their worlds. I know comparing such masterful acting to a pokemon game is a long, long way off, but I think Darkrai in Explorers is what Ledger's Joker was in Dark Knight. No reasoning with him, no redeeming him, just pure evil.
I make it a tradition to do a re-playthrough of Sky every year. I wish I could erase every memory I have of the game beforehand so I can feel those emotions just as strongly as when I first played it. This game is incredible and I always shed tears during those very specific moments.
Explorers of Sky was my first and for a long time my only Mystery Dungeon journey. It is amongst my favourite Pokémon games till date. What a rollercoaster ride.
This is my favorite game of all time: when I was a kid I always felt talked down to by Pokémon games story and this was truly the first game to show me a beautiful story, and is why I love stories today. The music, the gameplay (I love it) and of course the magnificent development of the characters (namely the partner but others as well) are all why I love this game. For real, grovyle and dusknoir have a talk about the meaning of life.
@@jackmisha2598 The story is engaging, the music is phenomenal, the partner is well-written and honest feels more like a main character than you by the end, the final boss is defeated in a way that gives a good lesson for children, every Pokémon known at the time of the game's release is in it, the world is expensive and full of references to and characters from the previous PMD games, the Expedition Society is more compact than the guild (which has so many members that many of them get shafted, like Diglett, Dugtrio, and Chimecho), I find Ampharos way more entertaining and competent than the childish Wigglytuff, and instead of joining the Society right away, you start out at school learning the mechanics of the game, which makes sense, and only join the Society about halfway through the main game. This video goes through many of the reasons why I like the partner in Super more than the rest: ua-cam.com/video/AziDf0gZRdM/v-deo.html One reason that isn't mentioned in that video is that in Explorers, the player comes back during the ending sequence, without you having to do anything. In Super, you actively have to work to get your partner back. And the flip in the formula itself was also an awesome move. There's also a reason why I like the final boss the best of them all: * Rescue Team: Rayquaza was just pissed that you broke into his home uninvited. Not evil at all. * Explorers: Dialga was manipulated into its mindless state and wasn't truly evil. Darkrai was truly evil, but he's a post-game boss. * Gates: Bittercold was an evil entity, but it was hardly expressive and kind of forgettable. * Super: Dark Matter is Bittercold done right: an entity made of negative emotions that's also expressive and has the power to turn anyone to stone. Way more threatening than Bittercold's Winds of Despair. There may also be more reasons, but those are the ones I can think of right now. I hope you understand. PS. Don't forget to watch the video I linked.
While red rescue team is my favorite because of nostalgia, i can acknowledge how incredible the explorers games are and i was blown away after playing them a month ago, Great Review!
I think this was the first Pokémon game I have ever played. I remember it being so fun but I lost it. I was only around 6-7 years old when I played this game on my DS.
I love this game so much, and one of the only games I recall ever crying during as a child. I genuinely felt bonded to my partner, Squirtle, as well as Grovyle and all the other guild members. I STILL go back and play this on the WiiU virtual console, or play EOT on my DS. So unfortunate how expensive this game is now!
To this day, EOS remains as the first and only videogame to ever make me cry. TWICE. Both the main story and the special chapters. Im no tough guy or anything, but i just never take games that seriously... Until i played this game. Truly a beautiful story.
I love the Mystery Dungeon series so much. Especially Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky! I think the game brings all together what I love about the Pokémon universe and its so well made... So, it's no wonder I got myself the time gear tattooed onto my forearm to celebrate my 20th anniversary of being a Pokémon fan 😊 I wanted something that's not overly obvious (like a Pokéball or a Pikachu), something most people wouldn't recognize at all, but something that reminds me of every reason I love Pokémon so much.. Something that might fade, but never goes away. No matter how much time passes..
Pokemon mystery dungeon: explores of darkness was my first official Pokemon game and I have many bittersweet memories with it. Your video just gave me a trip down memory lane!
I’m so glad there are people out here that love this game so much as I do I bought Pokémon blue on the ds and got this game on accident I was never happier thanks gamestop for the mix up still have my copy and replaying it right now I’m so sad because I know what’s coming but exited at the same time
Haven't finished the video yet, so I'm unsure if this is covered, but the part of this game that I don't think gets talked about enough is the music. The motifs that return several times to convey different emotions, the iconic boss battle themes, there is not a track on this game that doesn't go hard. Just watching this, at 11:00, when the "Across the Crystal Sea" theme plays, I teared up again because that theme means so much to me, both in that form and the other forms that same melody represents. Not to mention too that this soundtrack was played through a DS speaker and carries more emotion than a lot of console or computer titles.
And alongside Diamond and Pearl remakes (Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl), there's a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game that had been announced on February 27th 2021, and no, it's not a remake of Explorers of Sky, it's instead a brand new game altogether, and it's if course Legends Arceus, and Legends Arceus is easily the best Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game ever.
probably the best pokemon game from my childhood. i played so many hours in. it its just so nostalgic to think about it. nice vid loved to hear you talk about the game!!
What I fear for the next PMD entry is that it might still follow the same formula as previous games: he blank slate protagonist, the partner that gets all development, the fake villain and the mole who serves a higher entity who wants to destroy the world. The main series are formuleic already, I'd like to see a spin in the story sometime soon.
Maybe the character realizes himself as the evil one somehow not like a stupid double personality thing but all of his actions in self desperation had led to mass destruction and calamity. Maybe the player can be hunted down and have an acomplice with him. It would be interesting but tbh I loved the 2d sprites more than the 3d thing they have going on now
I've seen a lot of videos on recent media and the age of gaming we're moving into. Games are never for the sake of fun anymore. Companies pump out games because they want money, not an experience that people can gravitate to. But even in the ever looming darkness of reality, i'm reminded that stuff like this exists. Good games and good media can exist in this era and the leading cause of that greatness is always passion. They added a second game behind the main story with the postgame, added 5 completely seperate side stories to flesh out characters and between the music and replayability of the game... Man it's just a thrill ride.
Man I love the music so much of this game, like the temporal tower soundtrack is just such an iconic theme for the series as a whole I feel like, just amazing
This game’s finale and special stories, especially the special story in the future with Grovyle, Dusknoir and Celebi, just broke me I haven’t played the game in years, and i still remember the emotions I felt with this game, it’s a masterpiece
god i wish i didn't lose this game as a kid. it's so expensive nowadays :( i still have red rescue team, but explorers of sky is without a doubt the best in the series, at least from the ones ive played
Such a great game, to be honest. I hope they decide to remake and or remaster this game for the switch or any future Nintendo console. I would love to revisit the Explorers of Sky story and for new Pokémon fans to experience this game.
Fun Fact: To show off PMD's amazing soundtrack, there are 10 different tracks in this video (excluding the intro and outro), which I'm fairly sure is an all-time high for one of my videos lol.

I wonder if something like
the Nations Strength of a Pokemon-Region has ever

Just anyone.

Imo the game truly ends at Special Episode 5, Dusknoir's arc is the most engaging story of the game and it's just a perfect ending to the game.
Yeah! And then all those punching and smacking noises ahahahah
lmaooo
Not to mention that Bidoof’s wish itself is sweet too - you’re presented with a huge list of options, and Bidoof considers each of them before finally deciding that what he really wishes for is to be able to guide new adventurers sometime soon lol
Lol, I love it when characters, especially powerful ones, have goofy quirks like this to give them more of a personality.

Gotta say... the moment where the protagonist disappears before his partner at the first ending is the first video game moment that made me genuinely cry. I still tear up at that moment when I think back. Your partner was so excited to keep being an explorer with you forever. @@Calruxio who are the 5 extra starter pokemon in sky?
As a child, the most regret I’ve ever felt was when I evolved my partner Pokémon post story. They were never the same partner who was by my side fighting caterpie all the way to semi gods of the world. Only to become a simple Pokémon no different from the random recruits. It hurt.
That and that they never make any facial expressions anymore, they’re just perpetually :)
Better than what PMD1 did. At least your partner still talks the same and will greet you and meet with you in the morning and before bed. In PMD1, they literally turn into a regular recruit, they don’t visit you anymore, they don’t follow you anymore, and they don’t talk like they used to.

@@candyneige6609 You trolling right? Legends arceus is not a PMD game.
@@gone9820 Actually, it is, Legends Arceus is indeed a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, you're even a human turned Pokémon in Legends Arceus, more specifically, you're either Rowlet, Cyndaquil or Oshawott.
@@candyneige6609 what
@@damson9470 I said that Legends Arceus is a Mystery Dungeon game because in this game, you're a human turned Pokémon, more specifically, you're either Rowlet, Cyndaquil or Oshawott, and because you're a Pokémon, you can get attacked by other Pokémon.
This is one of my favorite games of all time and I was super excited to hear your take on it. Sidenote, if you didn't cry at least once on your first playthrough, you weren't playing the game right. This game is a feels trip 😭
Can you talk about Pokémon Conquest next, it’s criminally underrated and has some major issues but deserves some more attention
I'll put it on the list, it's one I've been wanting to cover for a while!
The only game that was worse was probably _Pokemon Dash._
I have a very strange affinity for weird off titles like _Pokemon Channel_ and _Hey you, Pikachu!_ Yes I do own them, and while I haven't hit them up lately, they still work just fine.
The only main-series games that annoyed me were Diamond and Pearl, and Platinum went a long way towards fixing the....dull....slow....pacing....dragged....out....and filled out a lot of the duller plot points here and there, and what's more, we got Looker. XD
@@JPRPokeTrainer98 you should give your thoughts on the pokepark games!
Thank you for listening to my TedTalk.
yo the crogunk to creed bratton analogy literally had me in tears
They could be next in line for the remake treatment after DP. Unless Game Freak do a Let's Go remake of Johto.
I instantly love everything to do with this game regardless, Still replaying it even today and it never loses it's charm. Criminally underrated imo
Don't mind me, just sobbing from a youtube review. 😭
Seriously, this is hands-down my favorite game of all time.
Discharge and Thunderbolt are your friends.
Can’t even stress all the times that saved my life 😂
Okay that's what I thought, you said it early on in the video that this is the third version of Time/Darkness. I remember loving Time as a kid and wasn't 100% sure if this was the same game. I hope this game gets a Switch remake too. Top tier Mystery Dungeon game, even among nonPokemon mystery dungeon games.
The one thing I wished this game had was a side story of your partner going on without you for that time you were gone.
JPR: *Praises the guild members*
Dugtrio and Corphish: *Sad hey heys and ocean sounds*
This game brings so many memories! The fact that i played it when i was a child and after watching your video, all the emotions and memories came back! You covered all the points perfectly! And yes i also do hope that in the future we will see a beautiful remake of this game!
Explorers of Darkness was my first Pokémon game when I was 8and I got Sky immediately when it came out because I loved it so much and I never regretted it. This game will forever remain as my favorite Pokémon game of all time.
The ending to explorers of sky was incredible. They made dusknoirs story end so beautifully.
Thanks I still this game to this very day and is definitely one of my all time favorite games
I think Super is better.
@@wikiuser92 everyone's entitled to an opinion and your wrong
@@wikiuser92 dang you got that contrarian opinion: I love super (I may think Rescue team DX is better but it’s close) but how come you prefer it?
This video goes through many of the reasons why I like the partner in Super more than the rest:
ua-cam.com/video/AziDf0gZRdM/v-deo.html
One reason that isn't mentioned in that video is that in Explorers, the player comes back during the ending sequence, without you having to do anything. In Super, you actively have to work to get your partner back. And the flip in the formula itself was also an awesome move.
There's also a reason why I like the final boss the best of them all:
* Rescue Team: Rayquaza was just pissed that you broke into his home uninvited.
@@shayminup7 That's not very polite.
Great video! Only hearing the music itself in the background gives me goosebumps... what a fantastic game!
The expressive Character portraits still have more expressions than Sword and Shield Characters
Just imagine if this was adapted into a live action film with the Detective Pikachu designs. Perfection.
Or if they have continued those especial anime chapters ending in a full series. Those 2 episodes were better then most of the regular pokemon anime.
They could have easily made an anime on this games story alone
If the protagonist is a Pikachu, will Ryan Reynolds be the voice?
To this day, EOS remains as the first and only videogame to ever make me cry. TWICE. Both the main story and the special chapters. Im no tough guy or anything, but i just never take games that seriously... Until i played this game. Truly a beautiful story.
I love the Mystery Dungeon series so much. Especially Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky!
I think the game brings all together what I love about the Pokémon universe and its so well made...
So, it's no wonder I got myself the time gear tattooed onto my forearm to celebrate my 20th anniversary of being a Pokémon fan 😊
I wanted something that's not overly obvious (like a Pokéball or a Pikachu), something most people wouldn't recognize at all, but something that reminds me of every reason I love Pokémon so much.. Something that might fade, but never goes away. No matter how much time passes..
Pokemon mystery dungeon: explores of darkness was my first official Pokemon game and I have many bittersweet memories with it. Your video just gave me a trip down memory lane!
The only thing I hate in this game is how Dialga kills me with 2 hits
Literally one roar of time and you are done for
Focus punch (if you’re a fighting type), dig , vacuum wave, discharge, bite. X-eye seeds, sleep seeds, violent seeds, vile seeds.
These saved my ass.
Agility+Multi hit move. Treecko is easy game usually. Try to eat enough gummis to get Concentrator, higher accuracy is amazing. Use the Spindacafè
With Torchic, I used reflect which causes all of Dialga’s attacks to hit himself and I had Pikachu use dig, so he never got hit! 😂
@@cheerios2548 I will try that Reflect thing next time 👀 (I am not really used to all of Mystery Dungeon mechanics yet to be honest)
I’m so glad there are people out here that love this game so much as I do I bought Pokémon blue on the ds and got this game on accident I was never happier thanks gamestop for the mix up still have my copy and replaying it right now I’m so sad because I know what’s coming but exited at the same time
This is EASILY my favorite game ever, so I'm glad you made this video. And honestly, all the "bad" things about it are just nitpicks.
Say it with me: WE WANT A REMAKE
We are getting diamond and pearl so it would be a PERFECT time for one
And alongside Diamond and Pearl remakes (Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl), there's a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game that had been announced on February 27th 2021, and no, it's not a remake of Explorers of Sky, it's instead a brand new game altogether, and it's if course Legends Arceus, and Legends Arceus is easily the best Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game ever.
Thank you so much for making this video. I love PMD EoS so much, you summed it up flawlessly
Perfect video.
The man of the hour himself.
Pls finish the game
Appreciate the exposure and the differing opinions Sacred :)
@@JPRPokeTrainer98 Yeah Totally
probably the best pokemon game from my childhood. i played so many hours in. it its just so nostalgic to think about it. nice vid loved to hear you talk about the game!!
Now hear me out, Explorers remake but in the octopath art style.
Don't play with my heart like that.
Make it happen.
I started this video two months ago. Stopped at the spoilers, played the game and now I can finally finish!
Next do Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team retrospective
Nah. I'd rather see Super.
