I feel Chuck really wanted to be a rockstar/professional musician, but he didn’t want to have to live that lifestyle (in terms of the inconveniences of touring and that’s stuff) so only wanted to do it if it met 100% of his needs. Which is fair on his part, but unfair for all the people who worked with him expecting to tour and be a pro band
There is one strong suspicion of mine and I find it unusual that nobody mentioned it, like ever. Maybe his closest associates like DiGiorgio, Holgan, Koelble, Rozz, Masvidal etc. thought the same, especially later when they gained more life experience, became more mature, rethink everything etc. but they will not mention it out of respect. I think there is very strong possibility that Chuck had some mild form of autism, most likely that he had high functioning form of Asperger. A lot of things are pointing in that direction. Weak level of care for other people feelings. Using others for his own purposes. Laser focused on on few activities, he almost lived in music studio at beginning of 90's. In songs he had habit to repeat certain riff 18 times. Meltdowns when things do not go like he imagined it. Oversensitive to criticism, his despise towards old school death metal most likely originated from that, accusations that he was a sellout. Increased affection for animals, which is not unusual but very often people who have increased love for animals are the ones that have problems in communication and relation with other Homo Sapiens. Homesickness and having head "filled too much" is also specific for autism. I cannot tell for late stage of his creativity (after Symbolic) but before that people, no matter how talented were primarily a tool for him, it seems. Just to add that I respect him immensely and Death is my favorite band of all time. And I love animals.
Very well said! I also have a feeling that maybe his brain tumor was affecting him later in life? Making him erratic and short-tempered. Unfortunately we’ll never know.
@@GoroSternthe tumor thing is never mentioned when people talk about his personality. Possibly a mix of his popularity the tumor and a slight touch of the tism. Also from florida? Lol
And his flakiness. I can't stand flaky people so I have a feeling I wouldn't have gotten along with Chuck lol. Crazy the number of times he dipped mid tour. Love his music though.
He comes off as a bipolar manic depressive type who would have some moments of intense driven creativity and then the downside of depression and withdrawal from the world of commitments, people.
I think Death Started it because they had a death metal demo album in 1984 which was before Possessed. This is definitely Death Metal if you ask me. ua-cam.com/video/Am5YL9aT73U/v-deo.html Nevermind, I notice you brought it up.

To paraphrase Sir Philthy Animal Taylor "He's an artist, he's sensitive as shit!"
Couldn’t have said it better myself 🤌🏼 RIP Philthy
remember when fenriz commented on his ride cymbal "ring ding a ding ding"

Maybe the tucked t-shirts into rustlers and cowboy boots was indicative of the spectrum! 😂🎉. Very talented though.
Well, that was a surprise. Always thought Chuck was a total sweetheart. Thanks for the video.
@@Nikos_Mavridis thank you for checking it out!
Even though he was a mean diva, he never made the same album twice.
100% agree, he wrote some of the best music out there
Spiritual Healing was my introduction to Death Metal so I'll always have a special place for Death and Chuck. That said, Chuck had his flaws.
I think Chuck was just very emotional. That's ok. He left an indelible legacy.
If Chuck was still alive he would be pissing people off with his unhinged anger problems.

He definitely had some issues.
Dude I love Japanese Sabbat. That band is insanely good.
Too fuckin’ good man, my favorite band out of Japan hands down 🔥
