R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner
And Sean Reinert now
That's truth about Reinert, definitely one of the absolute best drummers in metal, very few can match. Sadly he is very underrated.
Leonid Isachenko THE guy who opened the doors to jazz fusion. Sean inspired Gene, Tomas Haake and everyone you've heard about today. Sean Reinert is the greatest
do not forget the guys from Atheist if your talking about jazz fusion ;)
Well he stopped playing as much, that's what happens.
@@eurologic Don't forget Gar Samuelson the Jazz dude played Thrash Metal
He’s incredible !!!
R.I.P. Sean Reinert! A total legend in metal.
I was looking for this comment, otherwise I would have written it myself. He was a true inspiration.
Gene's a great guy 👍
Cool to hear him show respect to Reinert's work on Human
Everybody Chuck worked with has NOTHING but admiration & respect for him. James Murphy said Chuck paid him the most for filling in at lead guitar. MORE than Obituary, Cancer, Testament, etc...
Try asking Rick Rozz or Kam Lee
@@lakotayaguy8032 do explain?
mikhail westhallen Lot of the musicians in Death had a hard time working with Chuck. Check out the Death By Metal doc.
Lol even gene had major problems with chuck
@@lakotayaguy8032
Man, that documentary was an eye opener..
Chuck was prickly..
RIP Sean Reinert now he's with Chuck :)
I also wanna be with Chuck. :(
@@zelihagunes6192 why? Save yourself
2 piece tech death/ prog metal band in heaven :(
Gene Hoglan, a living legend, there are many good drummers but I personally believe Gene is on a league of his own! Respect!
Totally agree
pacxam11 you are exactly right sir.
Lombardo > Holgan is the reality, but he's great
Waffe Godiator that's funny
@@mistersunshine1330 mmmm they are greats but Holgan is more heavy man, and a little better to me
The respect Hoglan has for Reinert! Love it
We all miss Chuck. he is a legend till the world collapse.
Don't let Schudiner's Legacy Die!
Greetings from Brazil!
Gene is one of the most talented and humble drummer I know! He's not only legendary, he's fun to watch and to listen to!
I love how he plays on Individual Thought Patterns. to me, the best album from Death so far. that very same year Cynic released "Focus"
metal was going to the right direction and suddenly the Grunge scene takes over and MTV bans all-metal bands in 1994. long story short. metal has never recovered ever since.
What a humble guy. He is a legend.
As Gene says, the drumming in Human was "godly", but the drumming in ITP gone crazy with the tempos and the ride bells thingy... My favourite album of all times Mr. Hoglan, thanx to you
ride bells and boat propeller
Yeah, will never forget my first listen to Human. I was big into the metal and had all the Deicide, Slayer, Entombed Carcass Morbid, Incantation, Sadus Etc etc but when I heard that album...I was blown away because I thought I had heard the absolute best in drumming and thought it was not possible to be any better, faster more technical until Sean Reinert. Just incredible. Good recording production wise for the time also.
CRN Bassguitars are truly amazing too. Original, just like drums:)
ITP crushes ´Human` ... Gene Hoglan, Steve DiGiorgio and ANDY LAROCQUE ? What kind of line up is that ? That ruins all other ´technical Death Metal` Death albums .
´Leprosy ` was the 1st Death Metal album which hit me hard at the time so I tend to differentiate between the 1st 3 Death albums and the others which came after.
You ´re unworthy of the ´Sign of the Hammer` if you do not agree that ´ Individual thought patterns ` is Death´s greatest album .
Greatest line up he ever put together , you´re right in one point though , just when we thought that he would be unable to top ´Human` up . Surprise, surprise !!!!
we all miss You Chuck...
Long Live Gene the legend!
Thx for the emotions You still continue to give us with your unique style and crazy patterns !
+glorious skeleton of europe Hah ! ;)
Something really calming about the way Gene talks. Just seems so genuine and welcoming.
Gave Sean Reinhert some serious props, that's a great compliment coming from Gene
So great to see legends praising legends, in the most the most humble of ways. So many drummers such as myself will always owe so much to Reinert, Hoglan, and even Christy for exhibiting the boundless possibilities of metal drumming, spearheaded by Chuck's unrelenting genius.
I met Gene in 95 I believe on a death tour. Super nice guy. I remember him putting incense all over his drum kit. One of the top three best and tightest performances I have ever seen. I was standing right in front of Chuck, but my eyes were fixated on Gene. Some truly godly drumming!
I always love learning about Chuck ❤
Gene you're a true inspiration dude. Only known of you for the past year but I just love your original parts and creativity. Hats off sir
You re an unique drummer as a musician and as a person that who never forget to his bandmate, his friend .I admire you always posting things about Chuck and when i see your stuff i llbe happy. thanks, we love you
Individual Thought Patterns is my favorite album of the bunch. It was a little bit progressive but still kept the same atmosphere of old school metal.
So I've been pronouncing Chuck's name wrong for over 25 years?
lol, so true, me too. been saying his last name wrong forever.
hahaha Me three
Same here. I pronounce it with 2 syllables.
@@michaeltozzi3112 how is that possible lol
@@TronciM I guess it's with one. Mind my disability.
Thank you for your music, humbleness and kindness, Maestro Gene Hoglan!
Criminally underrated metal drummer, one of the all time greats IMHO!
the best metal drummer!!! no doubt about it.
As great as Gene's always been, it was a treat to still hear his growth throughout the 90s. It's impressive with how powerful and unique he became in such a short amount of time.
Glad to hear from you Gene! Thank you for sharing that!
Umm wow that was one of the most mellow, honest ,humble, and cool little interviews I've ever heard. Very very cool
Chuck could play over ANYTHING Gene would play. God.
Chuck and Gene.......2 gods of metal
Steve di giorgio, Gene hoglan
best rythm section in metal
I saw him play with both Death and Strapping Young Lad back in the 90s
great drummer
Gene, you are an inspiration!! I respect that in all likelihood you know very well that you are a drumming god but you present yourself in a very humble way. Much respect from us metalheads in Texas. You are a living legend.
Gene is so fucking awesome. RIP chuck and Sean, 2 fantastic musicians. Hopefully Gene is around for many many more years because the dude is awesome
I love your work, and chuck's work. Not many people can deny your absolute brilliance on the metal scene
First time I ever saw Gene was Dark Angel in the 80”s! Never saw Death, when he joined Forbidden and Testament! Huge Fan!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
A legend interviewed about a legend, legendary interview
Excellent intellectual point of vue, Gene estonishes me once again not only with his huge incredible playing but also thanks to his historical point of vue.
So humble. Gene is the greatest living drummer today. Truth about Reinert, but Gene has been the baseline for the last almost 30 years. Thank you for all your work with Death, SYL, Fear Factory, Metalacolypse, and Testament. You are the bar that all modern drummers are measured to.
Such a humble, soft-spoken man. And, well, Symbolic... absolute greatest drum album ever.
well, then proceed to Cynic's Focus, maybe it'll change your mind
@@mrdeathamore both great in their own way. Sean and Gene are tied for number one in my opinion
Chuck And Gene \M/ Two Legends ...Metal Has Been Blessed To Have!!!!
yep every time i watch something about Chuck i always get something in my eye!
Gene is such an awesome dude, Human definitely opened up a ton of pathways for metal drumming. Sean Reinert was a phenomenal drummer. The double ride, double bass fill in Lack of Comprehension made everyone be like “woah”. Human and individual are some of my favorite Death records😈🤘💥
Love the quiet SYL Alien in the background
wow gene great to hear you...looking foward for drum patterns from symbolic ecc...
Gene Hoglan is one of the best drummers to play in every band out there. Go Gene.
Individual thought patterns and symbolic are my favourite death albums. I love them all, of course
I've always said Chuck SchUldiner, with the accent on the first syllable. Shows how much I know.
Gene Hogan changed my life..
Huge inspiration, along with Matt Kelly from Bloated Corpse. Matt is from here in Detroit.
Legendary brotha !!!
Individual Thought Patterns is by far the best Death Album, EVER!
Best drummer ever!! I was introduced to him on Death's 2 albums.
Wait. Gene plays guitar too? Whoa...
I first heard DEATH on _Individual Thought Patterns_ after reading about Gene in Modern Drummer magazine ... a Death Metal Drummers feature which also had Pete Sandoval and Steve Asheim. I then bought _Symbolic_ , _Human_ and _Focus_ (by CYNIC) in that order. Those four albums would dominate my listening tastes for many years to come. They were the core of the soundtrack to my high school days ... and for this I am forever grateful.
As a guitarist that doesn't play the drums I will still sub to Genes channel just because of the fact that he is such a cool down to earth guy. Hes a great personality for the entire metal scene. Also, I would love to see some Symbolic material because it is pretty much my all time fav record and Genes drumming on that is what helps make it the masterpiece that it is.
Mr Gene Hoglan, my HERO! Respect!
I respect you, Gene! As a man, as a musician, as a father of mine...i fuckin' respect you. I fuckin' respect you from the other side of this infamous world!! Much drumming & love!!
Gene rocked with Dark Angel. My first listen to this metal legend 🤘Definitely drive my own playing style. Thanks Gene !! You da man.
I just want to thank Gene for his unbelievable work done on itp and symbolic. That albums takes me away beyond music, art, pure medicine!!!!!!!!
Nice words Gene
When I was a youngster I did not like the metal scene, until 1 of my frends let me listen to Death - Human album.... Spend nights with my walk man listen to that album, I was soled to that sound. And from that moment I looked from another point of view to music. Ecery album of Death is breath taking, wonderfull! Thank you Gene and members, you are legends :-D
Loved your drumming from Darkness Descends on and have enjoyed your explanation.
When Gene talks about Sean and Chuck i feel proud and exited for his respect and the estimate. The big death's family is composed of brilliant and futuristic musicians. Another great drum player is Richard Christy, what do you think Gene? I think also Chuck was able to bring out the best in all drummers for his way of composing music.
SYMBOLIC my fav Death album. So incredibile, beutiful, touchy, technical masterpiece. I'll never forget that he died in so young age, like many of greatest artists ever :(
Gene Hoglan, a King of drums. Metal is King 🤟
We all owe a lot to that era.
Hoglan= CLASS ACT !!!
Love gene.Amazing drummer and cool guy.The atomic clock!
i love you hoglan.!!!!
Skeksis in the background tho , the ultimate drum track
A true legend and definitely one if the nicest people in the Metal World.
I love how he talks.
Gene has the most pleasing voice in metal (along with Chuck)....wonder if he has tried recording children's bedtime stories - it would be a huge hit!
Man I want to meet Gene!!
Gene is awesome!
We love you Gene 👏👏🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🥁🇨🇦🇨🇦
Gene "The Genious" Hoglan!!! The best drummer of metal history
It's funny how this kind and polite guy can play that brutal sound.
Awesome interview and Gene is 110% Sean Reinert's (RIP) drumming was Godly!!!
HUMAN is my favoreite Death album, what a masterpiece.
To be the best drummer on earth, you sure a humble dude.
Gene always seems like such a stand up dude
Wtf ! I remember getting ´darkness descends` the day it came out , this dude is looking better today than during those days .
individual thought patterns is my favorite death album
Good Guy Gene
I get what he's saying but I still find it funny how he speaks about Dark Angel, as if the drumming in these albums weren't insane as well
So fucking true.
True
It must've been so surreal to go from Dark Angel to Death to Strapping Young Lad over the span of just 5 years.
Just came by to give the best drummer in Metal some props. I didn't actually know he played for Dark Angel and Death for some dumb reason. I was only around 14 when those albums came out and they were kind of scary... but AWESOME.
Individual Thought Patterns is my favorite Death album.
how can anyone dislike this? Travis Barker fans?
Grande Gene!
u r a legend too
Lol, Gene never mentions when he was in Dark Angel opening for Death and he had to beat the shit out of Death´s Bill Andrews who thought he was the ´Dave Lombardo` of Death Metal ( sometime during ´Spiritual healing` if not mistaken ) ... would be cool for Gene to talk about this little known incident.
I read it in those times´s mags/fanzines , was a teenager growing up with thrash and subsequentely Death Metal .
This was in good old Metal Forces if I´m not mistaken , ages ago .
If that even did happen why would he mention it? Idiot.
symbolic is my favourite death album.
no. all albums are your favorite death album
ITP is one of the top 10 metal albums ever ~
What are you kidding me GENE YOUR LIKE THE BEST DRUMMER IN METAL TODAY
R.I.P Chuck
a humble dude
gene - you did become not A drummer, you became THE drummer.period.
ITP is my favourite Death album.
