Revealing a Beautiful Agate | Grinding Away the Husk & Polishing a Gem
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лют 2022
- In this BONUS video we show the FULL process of grinding away the husk until it is ready to move forward to being polished to perfection! This is a long process and if you watch from start to finish, you can see how each swipe on the flat lap grinds away more and more husk and is revealing more beautiful agate characteristics. This style video is very different than most of our lapidary videos but I thought it was a perfect opportunity to show how 8 minutes of grinding can replace millions of years of what nature could have done to it. We really should appreciate the tools we are able to use this day in age. I hope you all watch this video start to finish to appreciate that, thanks for watching!

How satisfying was that to see the husk fade away and seeing those beautiful details exposed?!
Very
It immediately started to shine and expose details! Very satisfying. Agatey goodness revealed.
Very nice!
Agates are so in their own category of rocks!!😄😃. You did your usual work in detailing...a great job!!😁💖💖
Hey Ihave good ágatas in my vidio
Gorgeous! Sometimes we focus on cutting and seeing what’s in the center of the rock when sometimes we just need to peel a little bit of skin away. Well done my friend!
👍👍
@@AgateDad Nice Rocks Man
@@AgateDad I have red rocks in my chanel I live in Michoacan México In Morelia
Such a beautiful agate. Well done Taylor. Thanks for sharing this lapidary adventure. Like opening a Christmas gift on layer at a time!
Exactly!!
Love it! Keep going and get the entire husk off. You’ll have an agate ball! That would be doubly gorgeous!
I love that back window though 🥰
Thank you for doing this video. Just got a flat lap and watching your technique helps me with working uncut pieces. My wife thanks you too as I am now doing something with the rocks that "aren't allowed in the house because there are too many". Thanks for what you do!
You took a chance and away went the pits. Well done! They look amazing without the crust. Be happy, safe, and stay healthy.
My favorite thing to do that and cut the finds open. I’m always amazed what surprises nature has hidden inside the stones. Y’all defrosted out yet up there?
Still frosty!!
That turned out so beautifully! The bands and the eyes were fabulous! 👍🏼❤️
Really enjoyed watching ur process, it was mesmorising, what a beautiful agate xx
Such a amazing beauty ! The great discovery of the inside 👍💯
You did a wonderful job opening up the Beautiful Doors,
of past Ancient History!
Great work….
Thanks for sharing this very special Gift!
Found on this Awesome place called Mother Earth! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Such transformation, what an eye you have to have found it.
Love going into a piece and discovering something new. Nice one!
It’s so fun watching you expose all the great details! I really want to get a flat lap.
They’re so fun!
Sorry, just couldn't help myself! Hope you and your family are doing well sir, just thought I'd stop by and say hello~ I personally find it quite satisfying exposing the "heart" of the stone and when you laughed after the first bit of exposure, I related to that feeling! Love the little fortification bands, really cool IMO. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, have a super week.
Oh my😲 that's so gorgeous 😍
Awesome job beautiful stone 😊💙
That’s a stunner 👀
That was fun to watch!! Very cool 😎
I’m glad you enjoyed!
God those Lake Superior agates are beautiful 😍 in Australia we get some beautiful agates too, but Lake Superior banding and moss is just absolutely mesmerising. Great idea! I might try grinding the husk away on some of my agates 🤪
you should do the whole thing and make a sphere out of it!!!
Nice video!! Thanks for sharing!!
Sooo awesome! I don't mind the pits because they are a part of the character of the stone, but I'm glad that you went deeper!
Beautiful! I would have been tempted to grind just a little bit further but I can't say for sure if that would be a good idea or not. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful!!!😊
Another great video.
That is gorgeous ❣️❣️❣️
Omg, love it!
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing Taylor!✌🤠
Awesome!!
So awesome man! Beautiful banded beauty!
Thanks bud!
Beautiful banding
I am very surprised at how it turned out. Pretty amazing 👏 😍 💖
Beautiful
yeah that was awesome
✨ Beautiful ✨
Nice!
Beautiful ! Nice work !
Dang I wish I could do that!🤩
That was fantastic!! Great job discovering layer after layer of beautiful banding and color! Unless you edited it out, you didn't even reach for a Dorito! That's dedication, T!
Hahah I got a good laugh out of that, thank you!
BELÍSSIMA MARAVILHOSA....PARABÉNS
Freeeekn beautiful
So amazing exposing the beautiful agate bands inside that rock!
I have collected hundreds of these and have hoards of them and my garage that need polishing! but I'm convinced they are agatized echinoderm fossils. There's Mostly crinoids in mine! 😁
Caramel macchiato anyone? Soo yummy
That's cool. Beautiful agate.
Patterns, too. What type? I wonder.
Does it get dusty? Or does water keep the dust down?
You wear a mask?
What grit is the first grinding wheel?
Sorry, I have many questions
Just think that was rolling around in some molten pit and became a stupendous agate.
Yes it was!
How fast do you run the flat lap when grinding the husk? Does water spray all over?
Nice job hay what are the chances of me talking you into doing the other side of that same rock I gotta feeling that it would be show stopper for sure. It might take a little more work but the rewards will be cool 😎
I love that window on the other side so I think I would leave it.. plus its not mine lol! I need to send it back to its owner!
Any suggestions on beginner items for what you do? I am going to get a tile saw don't know what else lol
Depending on the size of your stones, I would look into a flat lap or a slant lap for polishing. They come in 6” or 8”
@@AgateDad they are all pretty small no bigger than a golf ball but one day I want to find bigger ones 😀
💎💎🤗🤗
That’s a killer agate!
Can you suggest a lap grinder?
Also, do you have any instructional videos for polishing?
Thx!
I share my lapidary polishing videos so maybe those will help, I’d suggest the flat lap or slant lap here: hitechdiamond.com/?aff=22, let me know if you have any questions 😁
@@AgateDad 👍🏻👍🏻
let me know if you have any questions!
?. Are you having a hard time grinding off the entire husk? I started a couple of my nodules, but quit. I find it too hard to do it.
No I’m not
I just struggle with just doing it. Not the work, it like my conscience won't let me. I know if I could tell the right one, then I know I could; like that clear, black, and yellow one on Agatology.com, but I'm still trying to figure out how that person was able to judge that. Thank you. Feel like we got put twice as far away with all the snow we just got.
Hi wieviel kostet diese Maschine?? Wo ist der Link dazu? Grüße
Der Link ist in der Videobeschreibung, es ist eine "8" flache Runde".

@@AgateDad Hey T, hows life? I know you get alot of comments and it takes so much time so usually just sit back silently watching and thumbs upping nowadays! haha
Life is great, getting antsy for warmer weather haha how about for you??
@@AgateDad That's great news! Happy your life is well. Agreed, am chomping at the bit myself to get back out to my favorite hunting grounds and explore some new areas searching for beautiful goodies to expose by cutting and polishing to enjoy in my collection or give away as gifts~
@@AgateDad That's great news! I myself and chomping at the bit to get back out to my favorite hunting grounds and enjoy the peace and serenity of the hunt~ Take care and be well, hopefully drag you out to Oregon sometime in the next year or two for a few days hunting some beautiful plume, moss agates, picture jaspers and digging thundereggs!
Comment.
Lol
That came out great, though I'm curious if using dopsticks might make it easier to get some of those ripples/facet creases out.
How come you are using a flat lap and not the cabbing machine? Why is the polish not as shiny as the Petoskey you did a while back? The hardness is similiar. Thanks
I would rather use my flat lap for this and the petoskey stone is not the same hardness of an agate
Beautiful
