I started watching your channel when you where building stuff out of construction grade lumber in your garage and didn't know very much about it. I never commented telling your that you didn't know what you were doing. I knew you would get better and your skills would evolve because you had the natural ability and determination. Your channel has evolved tremendously since those days and I enjoy it very much.
That's one thing about woodworking the project is yours and you can do whatever you want with it. Your chair is beautiful. Looks great another great project keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing
You are one of the greatest DIY makers I’ve found on UA-cam. I’m only 14 years old but in the last year I really got into woodworking. I replicated quite a few of your tool holders and continue to amaze myself with my skills. I completed a coffee table build not too long ago that I got plans for from another UA-cam, Ana White. Keep up the great work!😁
I’m curious- in a world where handskill arts and woodworking is simultaneously shrinking as a vocational or hobby pursuit and yet broadening and growing at the very same time- I’m curious if you (now 16yo?) are still growing in this field. I’m 57 now and didn’t start woodworking until my 20’s, and I’m intrigued by what draws young people into the discipline these days.
What attracted you to woodworking to begin with?
Thanks- M in Vermont.
When it's your chair, and your art, you do what you want! Looks great.
I think your chair came out great. I love the color. I like, and respect traditions but I all so like innovation and artistic creativity. Great work and thanks for sharing.
Nice work April - and, you do whatever the heck you want to do with YOUR woodworking projects.
It's about time that milk paint is featured instead of chalk paint. Barn red is about the only red I can tolerate. Absolutely beautiful, April. Thank you!
Painting helps show of the beauty of the design! You really catch the facets and curves of the chair when it’s painted. Good work!
Thank you so much!
Your chair your finish. Artistic creativity. Great channel.
This is probably the best video on milk paint. I've done a couple projects with it and have struggled. This video will definitely help the next project. I really love the traditional look. Anyone who turns up their nose at painting fine furniture doesn't have to buy it or have it in their house. I think mixing paint and natural or stained wood is beautiful. Great work on the chair and thank you for the paint tutorial.
When you want to do something you have a habit of figuring out a way to do it. I believe that kind of attitude and tenacity is what this country was built on. Great work! Very inspiring! Thanks from Louisiana.
Anyone who has an issue with painted vintage furniture has probably never seen the inside of a real vintage farmhouse.
Great chair design, and a very nicely done paint job. Like the lovely warm color too.
Thank you very much! Yes, I love it. Thanks for watching.
Why do people dislike this? It is just so good work, the woodworking, colouring and the video!
Dang that red is gorgeous. Barn Red.......love it.
Beautiful chair and an awesome color finish.
You built it you get to pick the finish. Thanks for all the awesome videos!!
Stay safe🙂
This was very helpful. I took a class with Greg on making Windsor Chairs. Best class I ever took. I have not been able to make more yet, but I took what he taught me and have used in many other projects. Now I think I can milk paint my chair.
April you do amazing on anything you set out to do. You are very blessed. Don't let nay sayer's you Rock
Looks great! Very beautiful finish.
I think your chair looks great and have no problem with it being painted. Most vintage chairs that I have seen in my 59 years were painted.
Beautiful!!!! I love Milk Paint finish, I also mix my own wipe on finish which works very well. I love the wipe on finish on pine. No shiny plastic looking finish more of a Matt and smooth finish. Awesome work Ms. April.
Thanks for sharing!!
Great work! Thanks for taking the time to make, film, edit and share
I am studying Wood Working and furniture design in college and we just completed our last semester on chair building. Prior to the beginning of the semester I never really considered how many different designs and styles of chairs there were, and up to that point most chairs to me, equally had a simple functionality purpose. I can tell you that, there are as many design styles and ideas as there are master builders and artist making them. When the same old style and designs are pumped out, its called a factory, keep doing what you like best, who cares what traditionalist say. Do your own thing and run with it. I liked the way it turned out.
Wanted to add, that every traditional design or style was an original idea from a craftsman or artist, then they became standards in the industry. Also, we use a lot of Milk Paint, cool stuff. You can change the final finish look by adjusting the consistancy with more or less water ratio's.
Looks BEAUTIFUL April!! You did a great job! 😍
I was just noticing the size of Houston on her Texas Tee actually.
Looks beautiful!! I have a dresser I want to paint with milk paint so thank you for this video.
Milk paint? Pickle varnish? When did this turn into a cooking show? What's next? Collaborating with Chef John? Nice project. The paint looks good.
Love the color you picked!!! Great video as usual!
I simply love your traditionalist approach.. 🥰
Great Video April. Thank you for sharing.
The color looked so great.
Interesting video April. I have been following you for a couple of years now and enjoy watching how you have evolved in your skills. I am a professional cabinet maker& master Joiner with 45 years experience and even I have learnt a few things. You mentioned that all Windsor chairs were traditionally painted. Actually that's not totally true, the old bodgers used to sometimes scorch their chairs to make it look like paint, as paint was very expensive in those days. But most chairs were just oiled with linseed oil & beeswax as this was readily available. I used to study the history of furniture making years ago. Although you are not wrong about the painting thing as many chairs were and still are painted. Chippendale for instance developed french polishing techniques in his furniture and most chippendale chairs were originally french polished. Still an interesting video. Well done.
nice back drop with the tree !! good spot !!
I spent some years working in an antique shop in RI and I fixed up a ton of chairs and built some too. Milk paint is awesome stuff except it's very hard to strip off. So just glue the chair and slop on some more milk paint! Nowadays I don't do much furniture building but thanks so much for inspiring me to try to get back to what I love, Excellent work!
Hi April...it's your chair, do what you like. Love your vids!!
I love that you are so hands on and involved in individual projects. The info about the traditional practice of milk paint, the marble, etc is what makes your content great. I hope you never get caught up in the “business” of wood working that you aren’t in the shop and hands on! It’s smart to diversify- both in case something happens but also so it can free you up to pursue things you love! Beautiful chair! Keep up the awesome content! I love the idea of the deck under the oak trees in another video. Are you considering classes for those of us wanting a hands on experience?
Very Nice work April😍😍👍👏👏👏
Beautiful style of chair and I love the color of the barn red Milk paint with a beautiful shiny finish! I hope you share the project you are helping with your friend.👍
Really fantastic work, April! The chair looks beautiful! 😃
As someone who painted a few paintings during my life I can definitely say it: there's absolutely nothing wrong on painting wood. 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love the chair and the finish. I am going to be experimenting with milk paint because I like the coverage and the fact it has far less chemicals
Great looking chair. I like the color.
Very good looking chair. Nothing wrong with making it your own in color choice or painting at all.
You know. It's your piece. You made it. You can do whatever you want with it. I have painted things, oiled them, whatever. Often because I liked it. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it. Never have used milk paint!
Hi April, you surprised me with the video
It shows a person what handtools can do
Thank you April 💐
Thanks! Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely gorgeous chair. Beautiful details.
Thats Awesome! Wonderful....I like the color
I like the chair. Red looks nice.
Beautiful chair! What an interesting process! Never would have thought so much went into it. Thanks for bringing us along (as I look around the room for things to paint). :)
YES! TY!
I have never heard of milk paint before. I am definitely looking into this the next time I need paint.
Looks fantastic. Love the colour choice April. Thanks for sharing
looks very good april
Great job you continue to hone your skills and we all enjoy your work. I took your cue on the fold down work bench, with the piano hinge Iuse it in the third stall of my garage especially in the summer I have overhead doors on each end and it’s perfect to control the wind or sun for a given project for the winter my plow truck fits with the table up for the winter.simple but quite handy.thank you !
The chair is very perfect and beautiful !! *****
The painting need so patience to finish, thanks !
I used your same product and color on a small piece of furniture I made years ago, but didn’t really like the results. After watching this, I think I did a poor job on the buffing process. I’m going to try again. Thank you.
You did good going with that color.
Nice work 👌 love the colour
looks good
This chair looks great! And a wonderful color choice
Omg, that guy, master chair maker Greg workshop is clean and organized like a pharmacy 😍😍
It is amazing the final result! Unfortunately I cannot find Real Milk Paint down here in Brazil. The only "similar" finish paint available is Chalk Paint, but I know it is not the same. Congratulations! The choice of this "Barn Red" was fantastic! Cheers!
My issue is not with the paint, but with the act of painting. Though you have inspired me to maybe try some real milk paint. It looks awesome and natural no voc are always a huge plus. Love your videos. Keep them going.
Beautiful chair and painting is very vintage. Love it ❤️
Beautiful chair and color April! Had no clue that Milk Paint was even a thing!! O boy, more options!!
Hello, April. Even your handwriting is pretty. ☺
Hey April, great film and project, will have to give milk paint a whirl myself. Missed you this year at maker central uk, but see you next year, Harry Shedtopia
I like to upcycle older furniture. Love that color. Love that it's a powder. Def gonna use it on my next dry brush job.
Great Video, I have used milk paint before on a pair of wooden shoes(that I wear at Revolutionary War Reenactments). Milk pain was a common paint used in the 18th century and I found it very durable. great job on the chair
Nice job, it looks awesome.
Beautiful chair.
Great job!! I just bought an old wash stand that I am re doing and that red would look very nice on it. Thanks for the idea.
Another great video April as usual. That color looks fantastic.
Keep the great videos coming.
Thanks for sharing and God bless
That workshop is gorgeous
Very well done. I will try the milk paint!
well done!
I have watched fine french polishers apply with one hand behind their back, and the same with art restorers applying varnishes to finished restorations. I couldn’t believe it when i saw you did that too. Must be a thing.
Your chair! Your way! Looks awesome! 😁
Looks awesome!
WOW, that is so beautiful! I liked your video so much that I passed it along to a friend of mine, he has been wanting to finish a couple of pieces of furniture with the milk paint but didn't know about it or how to use it.
But I think he will enjoy your video.
Can't wait to see what you do next.
From St.Marys, Ontario Canada, we love your stuff
Amazing job!
Thank you for sharing your projects and information on using milk paint. I like the results!Blessings to you and your family and friends.🕊🙏🖖👍
This reminds me of the pre Civil War era chair my mother inherited and it's parts are much more thin than yours. Hopefully, yours will last hundreds of years as well.
You are doing great work. Don't worry about what potential commenters may or may not say. Just do your thing. :)
I like the red it makes it unique and totally fits your personality.
The chair is great! Thanks for sharing
Yet another beautiful piece created by a beautiful woman. I have been a subscriber to your channel for a number of years, as MRBoatwrights 👇 mentioned, since you were building with construction lumber in your garage, and absolutely love your videos. I have learned a good bit from your videos over the years. Hope you and your family are doing well during this craziness.
Amazing job April, it turned out great! 😍👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻 Thanks for the info!
Absolutamente Preciosa. Gran trabajo y Felicidades.Saludos desde Mexico.
Hi April, I absolutely LOVE that chair! 🥰
thanks. just what i was looking for.
The chair looks great.
Well done
I must say that is a beautiful chair
April your chair is beautiful and I love the red.
I like the chair just the way you made it, as far as worrying what other say about tradition... tradition is tradition because it's been around a long time and I get that... but start your own tradition, in the future people will talk about the April Wilkerson tradition... and you'll be completely validated 😊
What type of cow do you get milk paint from? LOL
Don't be silly, you don't get milk paint from a cow. You get it from a hog - you know - pigment!
really no one bit on this, good one haha
I have heard of a Paint horse but never a paint cow. LOL
Trump cow
A cash cow. Because you need to spend moolah to get it.
I keep watching chair making videos and want to make one but I can't decide on the exact design. I find you are extremely clear and exact in your explanations. Whrn I first saw you I thought oh another good looking woman pretending to be a wood worker...now I see a very good woodworker who is also good looking. Thx for keeping me motivated.
What's very nice I like the color
Your an inspiration, no joke, to all. Great chair girl.
Hi April! Greetings from Greece.
🇬🇷 Opa! 😎
April, I really appreciate you for sharing on this topic. Based on my limited knowledge of Milk Paint, I was sure that I wanted to try it--someday. Now, I could have researched the subject myself--someday, but stuff happens. Now that I have fresh inspiration dropped in my lap, I am sure that my next project must wear a Milk Paint finish. No more someday. Thanks so much.
