@@flippedbyabby just found ur channel today! Beautiful job! I ❤ milk paint! Thank u for cleaning & reusing the old hardware and not replacing it w/ some cheap modern junk! 😊 oh also, check out Amy Howard’s milk paints & cracked gesso & antique glaze. She actually using real pigments from Italy and France. She creates her own products! Amazing quality! 😊
I’m getting ready to makeover a similar piece that was my late husband’s. Thank you so much for all the great advice! It’s my first piece and although I’m really nervous, I think The Real Milk Paint products will forgive my lack of confidence!
Gorgeous results, Abby! I admire your methodical attention to detail, your vast patience, and your sense of style. How easily this piece could have been tossed into a landfill! Well done! 😊
Powder post beetles, I think. Most likely while the tree was still alive, or dying. They have all left years ago. Those holes are from the larva burrowing out and eating along the way. Looks great!
I must say your work is exquisite - well done. Attention to detail and the finish look is spot on no brush marks. Love your work so keep it up. You certainly have a craft in your hands
You can use white vinegar and get it Warmed up. Then put the hard wear in and let it soak. I collect early antiques and I find that white vinegar works well without the abrasive. Plus it’s good for cleaning gold and silver jewelry. I don’t usually like these furniture flipping videos but you did a good job with this piece. Kudos.
I use this method as well. I've also done it on my own kitchen handles. Even though the handles look really clean, you'd be surprised by how much junk is on them 🤮 I then just wipe off any residue with a microfibre cloth
Agreed. Use 50% vinegar, 50% water. Put the hardware in a pan and when it starts boiling you stop it. With gloves (don’t want to burn your hands) use a toothbrush and start with dish soap. Run water over it and the, once again with the toothbrush, use brasso. It’s none abrasive. You will get the most beautiful finish.
THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE MY MOM'S OLD CABINET!!!!!!! The only difference is, my mom's cabinet had a wooden design on the inside part of the glass that was only attached to the wood part of the door. My mom's cabinet came with a dining table with 6 chairs. It got passed down in our family.
The prep work was a beast, always is, but well worth the effort in the end. This piece turned out amazingly beautiful, and your attention to detail is very impressive. I would not be able to part with it, no way. This is the first time I’ve seen your work and I’ve subscribed to your channel. Look forward to seeing more amazing makeovers!
Very nice job. An alternate approach to the termites or wood worm: 20 Mule team borax /water/ small amount of dish detergent. Wash repeatedly, let dry , repeat 2-3 x. Fill holes, etc.
Awesome make over on this one. I may need to try the milk paint in the future. The sheen looks like it has a lot of depth to it which is hard to get with a lot of paints. For pulling nails and staples, I would recommend a pair of end nippers or end cutting pliers. They allow you to pull the nails (usually through from the back) with minimal damage. I use them a lot on carpentry projects where in need to reset or preserve woodwork.
Ive refinished some furniture, but not to the extent to which you have gone. Your skill is extraordinary. Keep going. I'll be waiting to see your next project
I much appreciate your honesty when you make a mistake for two reasons....it helps me to learn and as great as your furniture turns out it makes me think if even you can make a mistake maybe I'll be ok.
Wow! One of my favorites you’ve done! It looks SO good. I love the wood grain still popping though. It’s clean and would look good in any home yet you saved the original character of it.
Just beautiful and very good choices. Finished product almost looks colonial. I liked the way the added stressing looked. In lightening it up that way highlights those areas. Added more interest. Very nice❣️Good job❣️
Wow….you did a fabulous job! It’s stunning. I love the color, and I agree, I’m glad you cleaned the nobs. I was wondering if those were worm holes as I have furniture like that. Well, nobody will have to worry about this ever getting damaged thanks to you!
You totally inspired me! I've been putting off getting new bedside tables for years because I was worried about the mismatched look but WOWIE I love the ones you have here. I love that the black and the same hardware makes them look so cohesive. THANK YOU!
Hello, I love how this turned out! I really like the color and I really like how the wax looks on there I'm going to have to try this wax. It turned out to be such a beautiful piece.
Absolutely gorgeous! I'm so glad I saw your video! I'm looking at a very similar piece that's been painted white, for $50. Think I'm going to buy it! ❤
@@flippedbyabby I just saw the video clip where you show the nasty comments......try to not let them get to you....I have been flipping furniture for many many years since I was 15 and I am almost 60 now. I trained in London in design college and believe me, your piece inspired me to start up again! I would have done exactly the same. The water damage would have made all the veneer loose and would have bubbled over time so better you dealt with it now than later......you were going to paint the piece anyway so replacing the veneer was not necessary. These Ego trolls want to stand on their soap box and tell everyone they are doing everything wrong. They are entitled to their claims regardless it is a free world after all. In the meantime all you need is one person to fall in love with your piece and job done......if I lived in US, I would have snapped that up! Keep on with your gorgeous flips, I for one love them!
I love it when a beautiful piece of furniture is saved! ( I rescue chairs🙂) Great work & good tips. I haven't worked with milk paint yet, but plan to start. Lovely job!
I’ve read in forums online that you can make your own mix of Borax and water instead of purchasing an expensive product to treat for termites. I haven’t done this, but plan to do a bit more research. Happy painting!
Absolutely love the milk paint and dark wax, I would have liked to see it with a lighter color wax just to see what it would look like. Still stunning 🤩
Ok, you have convinced me now that removing the damaged veneer is the right thing to do 😢. The fear of dismembering and possibly irreversibly damaging a beautiful piece of history is now a lot less scary. Thank you❤
Felicitation madame abby vous avez fait un travail de qualité et vous avez redonner vie à se beau meuble qui avait besoin d'amour ❤❤❤👍👍🥰jaime beaucoup.

We moved into such a house with an antique walnut side board. Powder post beetles were in some salvaged beams in the house. The beetles appeared again many years later in the sideboard.
So, I just found out these weren’t termite holes… it’s Wormy Chestnut. Better safe than sorry?
