  • 🎬 NEW VIDEO - EVE Aqua with Thread - Smart Water Controller compatible with Homekit.
    The new #EveAqua with #Thread connects to an outdoor faucet and allows you to control your water flow in several easy ways - by touch, siri or by using your iPhone and the Eve or Home app. You can use the Eve App to set the duration and customize schedules whether you are at home or away.
    I've called in an expert in this video to explain thread in more detail, my daughter Ashlyn. All you need is a Homepod Mini to take advantage of thread. This week, at the Apple #Springloaded event the new 2nd Gen Apple TV 4K's was announced with thread support. The new Apple TV is available to purchase on April 30th and ships the 2nd half of May. This means we'll have another border router option! Very exciting!
    In this video, I'll unbox, install and review the #EveAqua. I will also show you how to set it up in the Eve app and how to configure a watering schedule.

    The Siri Shortcut I used is piggybacked off of Eric's shortcut which is set to skip watering if the chance of precipitation is higher than 70%. The only difference is that I added one further step to skip/pause watering on odd days. Where I live, in Canada, we have fairly strict watering by-laws and I can only water my lawn using a sprinkler from 5am-10am on even days of the month.

    Excellent company. I had issues with an older model and was enquiring about a part. The company ended up sending me a new one that’s customer service and standing behind your product. I’m impressed no company can match that.

    Nice review! I have 3 Gen 1 Aquas and haven’t seen much issues with connectivity so won’t be upgrading but…. I was wondering if you have seen the Gardena Automatic water distributor? I use this in conjunction to setup zone sprinkling. If you dig deeper into the Eve website they recommend this and explain how to set it up. I also use a Gardena micro drip system for my raised water beds and am expanding to use this in my flower baskets. It’s a great device, highly recommend!

      Hey Danny! That is awesome. I actually haven't used the Gardena Automatic water distributor but thanks for sharing for myself and others. I will definitely check this out. The microdrip system sounds excellent for the raised water beds I'm thinking of as well. Thanks for watching!

    Hello thanks for the video! Do you know if I necessarily need a Home Pod or an Apple TV or if I can just control it with my iPhone? Thanks!

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  3 роки тому

      Hi Matias, technically yes.... but I strongly recommend having a HomePod or Apple TV to use as a HomeHub to securely control your accessories away from home, and for storing your scenes and automations. Here is an article directly from Eve that I think you will find helpful: www.evehome.com/en/blog/the-home-hub-essential-device-for-homekit-enabled-accessories

    Ashlyn was great! What a cool expert cameo. Also - good artist! Few questions: What is that black attachment at the end of water hose? What if you have an irrigation system, but use a hose periodically to fill kiddie pools, etc, and just want to know your water consumption - would you recommend this? Or is there a different product you’d recommend?

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Brittany! Thank you so much for the feedback! I agree, Ashlyn did a great job - she had a lot of fun doing it!
      The black attachment is the O-ring. Below is directly from the Eve website:
      Eve Aqua’s standard 26.5 mm / ¾" thread fits virtually any regular outdoor faucet. When fitting Eve Aqua, screw it all the way on to the faucet using your fingers. Ensure it fits securely and that no water escapes even when the valve is shut. If your faucet has a really short screw thread or its shape prevents you from screwing on Eve Aqua all the way, use the supplied additional O-ring to prevent leaks.
      Great question about your irrigation system - I'm not super familiar with these (wish I had one though!). The Aqua will monitor water consumption based purely on water flowing through it, and it calculated based on a specified flow rate as entered into the Eve App (so a static measurement ). So if you just want to know the water consumption flowing through the Aqua that is fine, but it won't take the irrigation system into consideration. There are HomeKit enabled water controllers for irrigation systems - like the Yardian, that may be helpful.
      Not sure if that helps or not. Let me know if you have more questions and I will try to help. Thanks again for watching!

    Hi! Great video 👍🏻 but a question. Now that Eve Weather supports thread can you control it from distance over the internet?

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  3 роки тому +1

      Hello - Thanks for the feedback. Are you asking about controlling your device remotely? This is doable with the BLE or Thread, you just need a HomeHub - Apple TV, HomePod, HomePod mini or iPad. This way, you can control your device from anywhere as long as you have a connection to the internet.

    • @thompas83
      @thompas83 3 роки тому

      @@TheBradLloyd Hi! Thanks for answering!
      With a BLE, I have to be near to the Eve Aqua unit to control it, right? But now that it supports thread, I now wonder if I can control Eve Aqua through the internet, for example when I am not at home. I have a HomePod mini and thought of connecting Eve Aqua to it so I can control it over the internet when I'm not home.

    Great review Brad. Looks pretty cool.
    Would be even better if it had variable output rather than just ON/OFF functionality.
    Also - I assume there are going to be issues with people who don't realize that it will need to be removed when ambient temps drop below freezing. Maybe it's covered in the Manual/Documentation...but I can see people only disconnecting the hose and seeing freeze damage occur. Perhaps I am being silly...
    Again. Good stuff. Thanks for the content.

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Bradley - yes, thanks for mentioning that - a great point! The Aqua, just like your garden hose, is not intended for sub 0 temperates so should be removed during the winter months.

    There IS another Homekit water control device. The Yardian Pro, works with Homekit and has way more extensive control features. It knows the water restrictions in your area, you can input the type of lawn you have, even the slope of the soil! It connects to the satellite and knows the weather in your location! Only downside is it is not THREAD enabled.

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  Рік тому

      Hi Nicholas, Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the Yardian Pro is for irrigation systems. Eve Aqua simply attaches to a spigot.

    Any idea if Eve Aqua will survive a Winnipeg winter? I would certainly plan to take it off during the winter months when we don't water the garden but I'm just wondering what would happen if I forgot. Great vid! I just subscribed!

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  2 роки тому

      Not a good idea to test that out. Water will get stuck in the unit and expand when frozen. That is a lot of money down the toilet. Best to remove as the cold weather begins.

    Can this be altered to read Eve weather data instead? What do you recommend?

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Tony, the Eve Weather isn't exposed to the "convert to shortcut". Chris Young from Homekit Geek just released a video with a cool shortcut based on the day of the week as well as the local temp/forecast - ua-cam.com/video/2qqIU1t3ILs/v-deo.html
      Hope that is helpful!

    • @TechWithTony
      @TechWithTony 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheBradLloyd yes but in Eve app itself... will it not adjust the watering of the Aqua using the Eve weather device?

    • @TheBradLloyd
      @TheBradLloyd  3 роки тому +2

      @@TechWithTony Well, within the Eve app you could set a rule to skip watering based on the Eve Weather Temperature or Humidity, but I'm not sure how helpful that would be. You can't use the Eve Weather's Trend data as a trigger, and even if you could, it's not super accurate based on my experience so far. I think a more practical automation would be using your local forecast to determine if it's going to rain that day.

    Well, I bought this on your recommendation - and it’s terrible. If you’re not standing DIRECTLY in front of it, it won’t respond. Literally, if I move just 6 feet away, I get “No Response.”
    Also, you can’t create Automations in Home!! When it gives you the list of devices, Aqua isn’t there (but it’s there on the main manual screen).
    I’m disappointed in you for hawking this piece of garbage.

    • @TheBradLloyd

      Hi Tod, I'm sorry to hear your are having issues with your Eve Aqua. Mine has worked flawlessly so I'm surprised to hear this. I'm sure you've already done this, but make sure you have the latest firmware installed (without updating, it will only use BLE). Assuming you are using Thread, you could try moving your HomePod mini or a full thread device (Nanoleaf A19 or Lightstrip, or Eve Energy) closer to the Aqua to see if that helps. If you are still having issues, I suggest contacting Eve tech support for help. I love my Eve Aqua and like I said, I've never had an issue.
      Oddly, Eve Aqua automations can't be setup in the Home app, but they will work in the Eve app (or Home+ app).
      I really hope you can get it to work.
