Dear Mrs. Lloyd. I understand your concern of having too many HomePod Minis around the house. I promise you it will make controlling your smart home a lot easier. Nobody likes screaming so having one right near the door will prevent that from happening. Plus with Brad's creativity he will be able to welcome guest and do advance features in the near future that will make your life easier.
Eric, you really did me a solid here. 😜👆👏This is the most epic response. THANK YOU for your support. I appreciate your expert advice given your extensive #homekit experience. You bring up very good points that I will be sure to pass along!! You can never have too many HPMs. 😂
Entrance HomePod mini is a great idea!! Our living room full size HomePod is close enough but if we didn’t have that an entryway one is perfect. I vote yes! 😄😅🤓
Thanks for backing me up on this, Eric! lol I think it is very practical. 😂
Your right, goal needs to be at least one in every room.
It adds so much flexibility and really does improve/complement a #Homekit Smart home. Thanks for taking a min to leave a comment Douglas!
I currently have 2 Homepods on my living room tv and I love them. I'm definitely considering sprinkling homepod minis throughout the house. This gave me some good ideas. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Ronald - I love the thought of HPMs being sprinkled all over the house. Glad this was helpful and I really appreciate you leaving a comment.
I have a mini in the tv room, kitchen and bedrooms. I’m thinking of adding one to the laundry room since it’s the room we enter the most via the garage.
Yes! Another person who agrees a HPM in the entry way is necessary! :) Thanks for watching.
7:40 Agree
oh yeah, more HPM’s the better! Trying to convince my wife to replace some echo dots with some HomePod minis lol. The airplay features from TVs is incredible. Great video!!
Yes Adam, that is a good idea! Hope you can convince your wife to go with more HPMs.
Absolute one in every room, I have 7 so far but what sounds good for multi room music is a HomePod in kitchen, family room and living room. My entire main floor now how music and Siri from any location and sounds amazing. All 4 of my bedrooms have their own mini. 2020 and 2021 was definitely the year for apple to be all in conquering the home. Great show, keep it up.
7 😳?!?! That is amazing! Nice to meet someone else with a HomePod obsession 😂 . Apple really hit a Home Run with the mini.
Question if you don't have a iPhone Ipad etc how do you configure this product, seems a bit backwards if you want everyone to buy a product...?
Hi Boramas. You need an iPhone to setup a HomePod. I recommend this product for anyone in the Apple ecosystem, starting with an iPhone. If this isn’t you there are other smart home platforms and smart assistants that may work better. Good luck!
@@TheBradLloyd so this is 1 massive downside to buying one then as no other home hubs can't cross platform, ah well its a no from me then to buying one, would you buy a car for it to only be able to take fuel from one petrol station only ...as an example, it just immediately removes a large chunk of the marketplace straight away that might consider buying one seems just daft!
@@Boramas I think this is a weird criticism. Apple isn’t concerned with missing the Android users here, they know they have massive brand loyalty and are hoping that transfers to buying decisions regarding smart speakers.
They won’t sell as many as Amazon do Echoes, but it’s less about overall sales in a single category and more about adding another aspect to the Apple ecosystem.
Thanks for this video! I'm definitely planning on getting a few homepod minis... that alarm feature is great! Your son looks so annoyed when the HW alarm goes off 😂
I agree
Thanks for watching James!!
I'm the person who went from "What on Earth would I want THAT for?" to "I just ordered my third HomePod mini"
I love it. They are addictive! 😂
@@TheBradLloyd they really are! 😂
Nice Brad! I have 3 more on my list, for my garage, my wife’s craft room and my kids rooms, can’t go wrong with placement!
Thanks Danny! You’ve got that right. I think your family would enjoy the additional HPMs! With the nice weather almost upon us in Canada, the garage would be awesome. Thanks for watching my vids and if you get more, let me know how you guys like them!! 👏🏼
Now does the sound compare to the full size HomePod
Hi Robert - It compares as you would expect for the price. Sounds great for $129 CDN, but even 2 connected as a stereo pair don't sound as good as 1 original HomePod.
Great video and great editing, I love the HomePod mini boxes in the background
Thanks Denisa. That is really kind feedback. I am newer to editing and still trying to figure it all out! 😊
Thank you for the video. I have 3 minis and I agree that having couple more is necessary. I can control my smart devices easily and able to listen to music in every corner of my house. Looking forward for your next video.
Thanks Norber! That is a great start. I love the minis! Thanks for watching.
Great video, and thanks for the mention for Signals!
Thanks for watching Matt! You're welcome, it is a great app for the Homekit Smart Home!

Brad, great video. I have 2 Minis and I look forward to more (I'm thinking 8-10 total). I'm planning Minis in mine and my wife's home offices, living room, master bedroom, kitchen & laundry room. I think they sound amazing for their driver size. To my ears, I've found that they sound best when 1) used in a small- to medium-sized room, and 2) they're up against a wall or in a corner where they can reflect sound off of the wall. Whenever I've had them "out in the open" in a larger space, I've found them to sound a bit under-powered (somewhat expected considering the driver-size for what they are).
Outside of being sensitive to placement, I really enjoy them. I switched from Spotify to Apple Music for better integration, and using Siri for setting HomeKit scenes has been 95% perfect.
I could certainly get behind a more rugged Mini as well. When we built our house, I pre-wired for stereo in-ceiling speakers (I was thinking a Sonos Amp setup) in the garage, dining-room, owner's bathroom, and covered patio. While I could do Minis in the dining room easily, I worry about the temps in the garage (Florida don't play), I worry about the humidity and counter real-estate in the bathroom, and I definitely would not stick them outside for any considerable amount of time. Alas, for those spaces, I'm committed to Sonos Amps w/ their in-ceiling speakers (which actually are a decent value when you look at comparable options (amps from Savant, Yamaha, Denon, etc., and speakers from Klipsch, Martin Logan, Triad, etc.)).
I'd love to do a Mini stereo pair in our owner's suite bedroom, but it's annoying that there's no option to make the Mini pair the default audio output from an ATV. I REALLY hope that gets remedied with a tvOS update.
Thanks for the feedback and for watching! Your setup is aligned with exactly why I made this video and why I recommend a HPM in every room. Sounds amazing! It’s crazy how quickly they add up and the increasing locations I’d try to justify having one. I also hope the functionality opens up so the minis can be used as default audio in a stereo pair!
Got 2, 1 OG and I want to add one to my bathroom lol
That is awesome! I agree, a bathroom is a great place for a HPM. Thanks for watching and glad you got an original Homepod while you could.
Love it! You can never have too many IMO!
backing you up, love to have them in every room!
Thanks for watching and for backing me up! Yes! A HPM is needed...In. Every. Room. I’ll be tabulating votes so I can hopefully do some persuading soon! 🤣
Thank your for showing all the features together. But is there a way to set the default alarm (or new alarm set by siri) by default in a lower volume? (its really loud especially at night)
thanks for the video, i’m really enjoying the channel and your content.
Quick Q - the signals app looks great - i’m guessing its running on the iphone rather than the homepod (?), is there a way of getting the flashing lights to still work when i’m not in the house.
Hi Martin, thanks so much, glad you are enjoying the channel. The Signals app will work away from home as long as you have a Home Hub (such as a HomePod). For others to utilize the Shortcut though, they would need the app/shortcut on their iPhone as well. Hope that helps.
I bought the HomePod mini to try the new thread for HomeKit devices. As soon as I plugged it in half of my HomeKit devices stopped responding. I discovered that there is no way to turn off the HomePod mini as the HomeKit hub. It can be set in standby mode if you have another device already active as a HomeKit hub. I believe the mini has too slow of a processor to use as a hub. I have a WiFi 6 Orbi mesh network so I have great WiFi coverage in my home. I returned the mini and bought the new Apple 4K tv with thread. Everything works great again.
Hey Loyd, I have heard it would be helpful to be able to turn it off as a homehub. I haven’t had that experience with the HPMs being slow. Thanks for sharing your experience and watching the video!
Thanks Brad really like your videos as I am new to HomeKit and live in Ontario so I can get the accessaries that you talk about. Not sure if you can put me on to an article or video to help me setup my HP mini to set a Scene for Good Morning then tell me the weather, the date what's on my calendar and then finish by playing my favourite radio station. I can find how to do a Good Morning with accesaries turning on and off I get that but can't find anything on numerous commands just for the mini.
Just like your "Morning Update".
Right now my stereo HomePods mini connect automatically to my Apple TV. Maybe there was an update ?
I enjoy your videos. I have a mix of Apple and Google products. I’m watching this on my Google Nest Hub. Apple iHome Mini can’t do that. 😁
Thanks for the positive feedback Susan, I appreciate it. I know you have a mix of products/eco systems and glad that works well for you. I totally respect that there are benefits both ways. TY for watching. 😄
Just got my first one! I move it around… there are more in my future tho: kitchen, bedroom, family room…
Let’s talk about home Hobbs, I currently use an Apple TV for a home hub, if I had HomePods dotted around the home, would that strengthened HomeKit? Or only one hub can be active at one time?
Only one Hub can be active at one time (selected by HomeKit automatically), but it could increase the odds of having a better connection if you have two... If you have bluetooth accessories then they communicate with the closest Home hub so you could definitely see some improvements there. If you're talking about hubs with Thread (latest Apple TV or HomePod mini), then admiring more hubs could improve your thread mesh network.
Brad, you got some well raised kids, when they start right after the homework alarm. Thanks for the video..
I will love to move to SIRI and Apple Homekit, but I have many devices that are not Homekit compatible. Plus Homepod Mini are expensive compare with Google Minis. Yeah yeah, sound is bad in Google Minis. I know.
Thanks for watching and letting me know your thoughts Gustavo! Totally get it, it’s something you can consider over time. Start small, the prices of Homekit accessories are starting to come down.
They are great. I think you overlooked that when it’s in a room you can drop the room name and say “turn off lights” as it uses location to control that room. Great video and good overview
YES Ross! You are right, that is a great tip. Thank you for pointing this out! I feel like I could do a video on the top 99 reasons lol. I also sent this tip out tonight on my insta. (credited to Ross ofcoarse!) instagram.com/p/CNV6ZgqAvQN/?
@@TheBradLloyd that would be a good video. I’ve got 99 problems but the iPad mini ain’t 1 😂
I have 6 so far, planning on adding them to bathrooms. Besides the thread mesh, I love to be able to play music “everywhere” sounds terrific! Siri seems to hear better from room to room with extra HomePods. You’re wife should find some benefits as well such as setting timers while preparing meals.
Great video keep it up! I do have a question, say you have multiple homepods in your home and let’s say you are in your bedroom and you have smart lights in your entire house, can you say turn off lights or do you have to be specific and say “turn off bedroom light”? Hope I make sense. Thanks again.
Hello and thank you for the positive feedback. The HomePod is assigned to a room so if you say, "turn the lights to 50%" or "turn off the lights" (for example) your HomePod will relate that command to the room it's in. You only have to say the room if it's in a different room. Hope that helps!
@@TheBradLloyd thank you so much!!
Great video Brad! I currently have 3 and LOVE how they sound and how easy they are to operate with my iPhone or Apple Watch. Great product!
I’m in a college apartment so I’m mainly using my bedroom. I’m thinking of getting multiples, but here’s my dilemma. Is there any way to speak to just one home pod in the room? Here’s the scenario I’m imagining. Having two on my desk set up and one near my bed. Can I speak to just my bedside hpm to play music? Or will speaking activate all of them? (For alarms, music, etc) thanks!
Generally your HomePod will be answered by the closest HopePod to you, but of course this isn't 100%. If you set up your bed HomePod as being in a separate room you can just Siri to "play music in x room". Hope that helps.
@@TheBradLloyd Ahhh! See, I never would’ve thought of that. That’s perfect. Thanks for the tip!
Good job with this video. I wonder if you might have an updated video now that the 16.3 update has been released.
Plus, improvements that are a must: 1)Ability to use Spotify 2)Detachable chord
Those are the 2 biggest issues with the Mini because so many users have Spotify and nothing wrong with a chord that can detach for better placement behind a desk, etc..
Can you used the HomePod as a room Proximity switch for lights ? Using the uwb chip
Hi Joe Joe, can you expand on your question? If you say "turn off the lights" it will only turn the lights off in that room, but it's based on the assigned room in HomeKit, not related to the U1 chip. The only feature I'm aware of related to the U1 chip is handoff.
@@TheBradLloyd with a update and a Apple Watch i would like to see you walk into a room and have the light turn on and have the lights turn off behind you with you saying anything just by your proximity to the HomePod and the room it assign to.
Look and roomme on UA-cam to see what I’m talking about.
@@joejoe6949 got it! The HomePod can’t do that but I hope one day. Lots of possibilities with the U1.
I recently went from no HP minis, to 1, to 6. The combination of a Tether system all throughout the house (with horrible plaster walls which suck up transmission from one corner to the other) and benefits for everyone having their own mini (we have the family plan Apple One service so everyone can listen to their own music at the same time) make multiple HPs an easy decision. One of the best features for my boys and me - all of whom are drummers - is synching music throughout house. We can rock out to it AND make my wife want to shoot us: double benefit!
I would like the ability to use external speakers, such as the ones already in the walls.
Hi Brian, you mean, have Siri ability in your external speakers? Or do you mean send music from say your phone to your external speakers?
I just purchased 6. Do I have to setup them up separately?
Wow - 6!! Yes, they have to be setup separately and assigned to rooms. It’s pretty quick though. Enjoy!!
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Did you buy these new or from eBay?
Any suggestions for outdoor HomePod ?
Hi George, thanks for watching! Great question. Check out my latest video on the Mission Battery Base for the Homepod Mini making it possible to maintain power and take outdoors. ua-cam.com/video/i6VDgm_MZis/v-deo.html
I still love the OG HomePods and am sad they’re discontinued.
Totally agree, glad we can still enjoy them for now. Thanks for watching Matt!
@nagelixin You must be rocking some pretty great sound at your house! 7 stereo pairs of OG homepods sounds EPIC! Agreed, the quality is WAY better on the OG! Still sad that it’s discontinued... Thanks for watching!
Why have more than one or two if you can speak to apple watch or Iphone???
Great question. The HP is more response than either iphone or watch when called upon (Hey Siri), and depending on your household, there may be members of the house that don't have an Apple watch or iPhone. Of course, the voice assistant is just one of the HP benefits! Thanks for watching!
Has anyone noticed high wifi usage with the mini?
Because your friends have Alexa devices in every room of their houses and can do so much more. It only makes sense to spend 5x as much for HomePod minis.
Thanks for watching. HPM is great for those in the Apple Ecosystem. Lots of options out there and no solution will suit everyone!
A HomePod mini display ( 7 inch ) would be perfect to see weather, schedule, medication, appointments but for me I love to have it display my blood sugars from Dexcom so I don’t have open the app on my phone or wake up the person next to me by asking Siri what my blood sugar is
yea, I just ordered 6, lol.
🤩 awesome!
Love the mini but I would not want to be without my original HomePod.
Me too Jason... Maybe the original (2.0??) will make a come back one day.
I actually came tolearn HOW to get them up not why - i get the why
129 DOLLARS CANADIAN PER HOMEPOD MINI.
Apple already made a battery operated HomePod. It’s called the iPhone!
You definitely have a problem
Yes - I totally do! 😬
