Great review. I just don't understand why do companies say their cameras are in HD, but sometimes it doesn't look like HD? I also dislike limitations to using the camera's, and you have to buy subscription plans to make sure you can watch full video instead of clips.
Yea Blink's HD quality is always pretty trash looking. While it is 1080P video resolution, I'm guessing the bitrate is too low and/or the camera sensor. All their cameras just do event-based recordings, no 24/7 continuous recording, but to just see a live stream for any length of time over a minute, it's ridiculous to charge for that benefit when other brands offer it without needing a monthly plan. Thanks for watching btw : )
@@Daniels_Arcade Yes there is definitely a way with any system. If you have access to your modem/router's login page, the address is usually 192.168.1.1 or something similar, you can log into it and split the WiFi network into both 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz bands. I was going to buy Blink Mini 2 but Now I feel like Blink mini is actually better at capturing light and colour. I meant Blink Mini’s Video quality is better than Blink Mini 2.
Yea aside from the video quality which is 1080P on both models, if you want a wider field of view or to see more in the recordings, the Mini 2 does have a wider field of view at 143 degrees vs the 110 degrees on the Mini 1. If you don't need to record a wide area or need to use it outdoors, then the Mini 1 is just fine.
@@DemCrumblies So I ordered blink Mini and received them yesterday and I installed inside the family room, I am happy with my purchase. It is better at capturing true colours and light, check out some other videos as well.
I'm not sure about that because I've never paid for the monthly plan, I just used the trial. You can cancel the trial on your Mini 1 if you're only paying monthly, then start a new monthly plan on the Mini 2. But if you paid for a year already, it's best to contact Blink support here and ask if you can transfer: support.blinkforhome.com/en_US/contact-support
This is probably a dumb question but if I turn off motion detection my camera would no longer be able to capture video, right? Why would anyone want motion detection turned off? Also if I don't use the cloud subscription where are my video clips stored? Or do the clips disappear after I view them on my phone?
Correct, if you turn off motion detection, the camera will not record video since there won't be any events to trigger the recording. Some people disable motion detection if they solely want to use the camera to monitor an area or their kids, babysitter, etc. For example, if motion detection is turned on and the camera is placed in a living room or hallway where people are moving around often, then your phone can keep sending you tons of app alerts, which get annoying after a while since your phone may be vibrating or dinging with every notification. One work-around is to just disable notifications, but leave motion detection on though. If you don't get the cloud plan, you will have to buy Blink's Sync Module 2 or Sync Module XR, which accepts a USB drive or microUSB card to save the clips locally to the sync module device. However, there are significant drawbacks if you don't pay for the cloud plan, which I cover in this video: ua-cam.com/video/akSBK5Girts/v-deo.html
@DemCrumblies ok now im starting to understand! So if I turn off motion detection I can just get a live view of my living room whenever I want it? @@marshall2 If you don't get the cloud plan, none of the live views will be recorded. Btw, did you already purchase the camera? If not, there are other options out there with higher resolution video and more features, such as automatically pan and tilt, although at a slight higher price.

@@marshall2 You should be able to pull up or open live view at will without the paying for a monthly plan. However, each live view session will only last 60 seconds before it ends. You will have the option to press continue on the screen to extend the live view session, but if you don't it will end in 60 seconds. If you want to watch live view for a longer time (up to 90 minutes), you will have to pay for Blink's cloud plan, which is silly if you ask me since the camera is plugged in at all times and has power to keep live view on indefinitely, but Blink wants you to pay them. There are indoor cameras from other brands that do not have these 60 second live view limitations.

@@rickvince Really not sure why it's showing a black screen in that particular app. Can you try to maybe clear the app cache for the screen recording app to see if it helps? Not sure what else to suggest.
Yep, as long as the WiFi is working at your home, when you go on vacation, road trips, to the grocery store, you can always monitor the cameras as long as you have internet on your phone where you are through using your mobile data or free WiFi at a hotel, coffee shop, etc.
If you take it to another house, you can to delete it from the first house/location in the Blink app and set it up again on the new location's WiFi. Is that what you meant?

During the setup process, the Blink App should show a list of WiFi networks. Do you see any WiFi networks at all and only yours is missing? I'm not sure if it will matter, but ensure that your phone's data / mobile data is turned off and only WiFi is on.

One issue could be if it's placed too far from your router or modem, but I agree, Blink generally has weaker hardware compared to their competitors. Other users have been successful too, but I don't know if anyone tried with a Pixel phone, but it really should not matter. What happens if you try to screen record while a UA-cam video is playing? I want to ensure that the issue is not localized to the Blink app first.
@@DemCrumblies I've tried both youtube and tiktok and they worked just fine. I did it again but added blink and during that specific part, everything got quiet and turned black. I've tried both "one app" and "entire screen" with the same result.
@@rickvince Ohh interesting, I use Samsung's built-in screen recorder in their One UI OS, so I never tried it with a 3rd party app. I just tested it again and it recorded without any issue. Does Pixel have a built-in screen recorder of any kind?
@@DemCrumblies yes I've been using the built-in screen recorder.
@@rickvince Really not sure why it's showing a black screen in that particular app. Can you try to maybe clear the app cache for the screen recording app to see if it helps? Not sure what else to suggest.
Are we able to use the mini on vacation ?
Yep, as long as the WiFi is working at your home, when you go on vacation, road trips, to the grocery store, you can always monitor the cameras as long as you have internet on your phone where you are through using your mobile data or free WiFi at a hotel, coffee shop, etc.
So yet a new cam wired and still Max. Is 30 sec vs battery is 60... Makes no logical sence that a wired camera should be 60 sec as well.
Yep, they just want more money to unlock features that should be basic.
Can you take the camera to another location
If you take it to another house, you can to delete it from the first house/location in the Blink app and set it up again on the new location's WiFi. Is that what you meant?
Hello! They need subscription?
You can use the camera with or without a subscription, but you miss out on a bunch of functionality if you don't get the subscription. If you watch from here, you'll see what you lose out on: ua-cam.com/video/BUtzQPyr45E/v-deo.html
Why I can’t find the wifi
During the setup process, the Blink App should show a list of WiFi networks. Do you see any WiFi networks at all and only yours is missing? I'm not sure if it will matter, but ensure that your phone's data / mobile data is turned off and only WiFi is on.
@@DemCrumblies I can see other people's WIFI, but I can't find my own. I tried to manually connect but it shows an error.😂
@@MavisWang-x7y Hmm that's strange. You can try to close the Blink app and open it back up and retry the setup process then. Sometimes clearing the app cache can help too.
@@DemCrumblies It turned out that 2.4GHz WIFI was required. I found out about this problem after calling the network company. They split off another line and it has now been solved. thank you
@@MavisWang-x7y Glad to hear you figured it out, enjoy!
I find it really poor the mini 1 always showing offline and trying to load the live view it never loads most of the time
One issue could be if it's placed too far from your router or modem, but I agree, Blink generally has weaker hardware compared to their competitors. Another reason could be if the SSID isn't split to the 2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz bands because maybe the Mini 1 could be connecting to the wrong band sometimes.
Video too long mate, next time keep it short.
Yea I often struggle with that because different people want different info, but I put video chapters so you can jump around to the exact part you need : ) Thanks for watching my vid 🙂
