    I'd like to see a cartridge user refute any of what you've been saying. Traditional safety razor shaving starts out to save money and to get a better shave. It quickly becomes a hobby instead of a chore. We forget about saving money and fall down the rabbit hole. Fortunately, for most of us, it only lasts a couple of years. In my case, I have enough blades, shaving soaps/creams, splashes, and balms to last several years. (I won't mention how many safety razors and brushes I have.) But I will admit that every once and a while I fall off the wagon. The other good news is we now have so many suggestions for birthday, Father's Day, and Christmas. BTW, David, I must have missed that you had surgery. Hope all is well.

    I switched specifically because of the plastic waste that cartridge shaving generates. Same with shaving cream and aftershave. All with the aim to reduce waste.
    Side note: Had my first shave with the Leaf Twig yesterday and it was like shaving with buttuh, compared to my Weishi DE razor. Far less effort. Near zero irritation. Will be getting consistent bbs shaves with it in no time.
    Have the Henson AL13 and Rockwell 6c coming up for Xmas. Really looking forward to comparing them.

    I never had problems with cartridge razors. Didn't know any better. I just wanted to change it up. 20+ years using the same thing, was bored. Shaving was a chore, boring, hated doing it, and I fancy a clean shaven face. I was on Instagram looking at photos of some scantily clad attention ho and a Supply ad popped up. Gave it a shot. I couldn't use the thing right, from cartridges to a single edged blade. I ignored the texts with links to videos, then you tubed how to use it and that's when I learned I was doing it all wrong all these years. Your vids popped up, Geofatboy, Sinatra Lennon, mad scientist of wetshaving, matt from razor emporium, My whole shaving world just opened wide open. It was like I was in the shaving Matrix. Saw dudes actually enjoy shaving. Mind blown. After botching a few shaves, but man after I got my first kick ass smooth shave, it was all over. Wish I had seen a vid like this years ago- Keep doing The Lords work-

Also like u said, things like post shave balm and alum block makes a huge difference. I still had slight irritation after using a safety razor but once I started adding the post shave products….ZERO IRRITATION! I use Nivea foam for shaving my head with a leaf razor but might try the twig and also get their soap that you’ve recommended. Thanks again David, keep the vids coming! All the best from the UK🇬🇧

    Made the switch to a safety razor in October 2023 and I can tell you with certainty, I'll NEVER go back to cartridge razors ever again. Wet shaving has been a joyful bliss. It has made the mundane task of shaving into an enjoyable and relaxing one. I actually LOOK FORWARD to my next shave all the time, it's crazy. My skin looks healthier, my shaves are a lot more cleaner, the financial savings from those bloody expensive cartridges can go towards this new "hobby". I'm just using an Omega shaving cream as a starting point (which has been great!) but I'm itching to dive into the vast world of scented shaving soaps. I have had my Merkur 33C for 3 years. I got my third 2 pass shave from a Lord Platinum blade today. 2 or 3 days growth each time. My post shave ritual is just a cold water rinse and then Aveeno moisturizing lotion. I bought Wilkinson Sword shave soap that lasted more than 8 months. I also have Proraso Red and Green shave soap (I prefer the red.) I had 2 different Gillette Astra razors that I used for about 20 years. Then I used Fusion cartridge razors for a few years until I got sick of paying close to $20 for replacement blades. For 5-10 years before I switched to wet shaving, I was just using the most inexpensive disposable razors I could find-- store brand or Bic or Gillette (when they went on sale.) I can get 4-5 shaves out of a blade before I need a new one. I like Feather Blades the most, but I don't think I'll pay $49 (Cdn) for 100 of those again when I'm happy with less expensive blades.

    Must be honest, I am now about half a year in on DE shaving, and still get razor burns and blate chatter... I shave my head with a gillette knack, and ordered a henson medium this black friday. Being from Israel I can expect some waiting before it arrives but can't wait to try it.
    Wish you a quick recovery and good health

    Greetings from Norway to all wet shavers! Because of the extremely poor performance of cartridge razors, I have used a machine for the last 15 years, but I am very happy to have discovered the world of wet shaving. It is a nice sensory experience, it is a skill to be honed and there is so much variety. I bought my first safety razor in may of this year, at a blade shop in Zaragoza, Spain. Unbeknownst to me, it was the Merkur 15C, quite an aggressive razor. After many failed attempts, I am now very close to getting a three pass shave without irritation, feels great!

      @OhioShaves  7 місяців тому

      Hi Norway. I haven’t tried the 15C. Sounds like it’s pretty aggressive and for beginners to stay clear? What’s your daily razor?

    • @DanBanan69
      @DanBanan69 7 місяців тому +1

      @@OhioShaves True, it's not ideally for a beginner, but I didn't know I had an aggressive razor until just recently. I think my lack of knowledge took a lot of guesswork out of it; I just assumed this was what wetshaving was like and that I needed more practice. In hindsight, the aggressiveness of the razor may have helped me develop a feel for it faster. Perhaps knowing that there were less aggressive razors out there would have made me blame the razor and made me want a less aggressive one, when in truth what matters is knowledge and skill. And an aggressive razor really motivates you to do everything correct, get that angle right and apply the correct pressure. :D
      I only have that one razor, the 15C, and will probably stick with that until I can get damn fine shaves every single time. Now, every 2/3 shaves I get some irritation, or I nick myself, or something. In the meantime I'm exploring what different blades, soaps and brushes can do for me, which is very enjoyable. Variety is part of what makes this interesting.

      Great follow up. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I agree that using a aggressive razor does make you well aware of what you were doing and you’re just not trying to speed through a shave. I like the way you explain that. Thanks for all your support.

    Switched two years ago from electric to safety razor. So the learning curve was much steeper for me and felt unnatural. But like you said the learning process is a fun process. My go to is actually a cold water shave (even during the winter months). Rockwell 6C with Astra greens 3 pass shave - 5 plate, 4 plate, 3 plate. Thanks for the videos. Speedy recovery my friend! #makethechangetoDE

    What’s your process on taking glue off of razor blade before using it ?

    • @OhioShaves
      @OhioShaves  7 місяців тому +1

      I used to just lay it on a flat surface and rub it off with my fingertip. It seems to ball up easier than trying to scrape it off with another blade. Now I just stay away from blades that have glue.
