if you really want to save money get a double edged safety razor. 100 blades costs about $12. i’ve been using them for years and they get you a better shave.
Yep i’m 20 and have been shaving with safety razor using Feather premium blades for 2 years now, and have saved so much money and it’s more satisfying to shave imo. What’s funny is that I switched after looking for the best razor between Harry’s, DSC, Gillette, etc.
@Neil Deep No pressure is crucial! Use the weight of the handle. Also, it also comes down to what razor you are using. Some are more aggressive, and you can also find mild ones. Buying quality product in the first place is a good choice. When you get something that has to last years and years, treat yourself. You can get Henson (really mild and beginner friendly razor) for around 60 - 70 bucks or used even less. You're buying blades for cents. It really is worth it, but you have to do your own research and find what suits you the best.
I have sensitive skin & found that if you use a high fat shaving cream like the ones you add water to lather up in a bowl or a shaving oil, you can save your skin from nicks & cuts. This combined with a double edged safety razor is a game changer & money saver.
I recently started wet shaving using a badger brush and double edge safety razor. I bought a $99 parker starter kit on Amazon & A blade sample pack for
Yes. High fat shaving "lubricant" is a MUST! I personally like shaving soap (I recommend dr harris. Quite pricey in some parts of the world but it last literally FOREVER. Can't even remember when I bought mine...), but if you like the cream buy it in a tube or tin! Not the pressurised can!!!!!
I have sensitive skin and I've never used shaving cream. Been just shaving with water and the cheapest 3 bladed Gillette you can buy. Those which are a bit wasteful for coming with a full handle for like an euro/dollar or two each. You can also shave in shower if you prefer but helps if you have an access to a mirror. I also heard a tip that hair conditioner can help.
That's great that you found something that works for you! I don't know why, but I started using a safety razor 9 years ago and got the badger hair brush and some Taylor of Old Bond Street. One time I was in a hurry and didn't want to go through the process of lathering up the shaving soap, so I just used some hot water on my face and it was able to shave through everything with no irritation or pulling on hairs. I haven't used my shaving soap or any cream since. Not that everyone should shave that way, but it does speak to how much better safety razors are at getting a clean cut.
I've had a beard for over a decade and just use an electric trimmer to straighten it up. But when I was shaving nearly daily I used a single blade safety razor. It really wasn't that hard to figure out (just take your time). Bonus, if the house or building you live in is pre-1960, there's a good chance there's a weird slot in the back of your medicine cabinet: that's for single razor blade disposal. They would literally just pile up inside the wall!
Oh yes, the old slot in the medicine cabinet. You see that pop up on home-renovation videos from time to time. Some are perplexed at all the "little metal pieces" piled up in the wall until they figure out what they are. Lol
@@nimravus01 I discovered this when I was helping my parents renovate their home to sell. I knocked a hole in the bathroom wall and like a hundred razor blades came streaming out. I called out "Mom! Dad! Fuck it! House is haunted! Let's just go! NOW!!"
I started using a straight edge about 10 years ago when my grandpa started developing Parkinson's and couldn't shave. My grandma also HATES beards and since I was staying with them I had to shave my grandpa and he would not be shaven with "women's razors" which to him was anything that didn't have an exposed blade that could cut your throat open. I have sensitive skin, and always struggled with regular razors. but since i didn't want to kill my grandpa, i learned how to shave on myself first. After my first shave I loved it! I had significantly less irritation. I went from "do you have hives" to like 1-3 bumps that might be acne. Straight edge is also MUCH better at cutting down a thick beard if i let it grow out, I can do small detailing. I am a huge advocate for it, and the learning curve is not as steep as people think.
I may be a bit of a spazz, but it took me about a year to perfect the straight razor, i.e. to be able to shave without a nick or small surface cut. NOw, I can shave with my straight razors (been getting them used and refurbishing them ) as quick as when I used a double edge safety razor, and soooo much better for my sensitive skin. I started using a DE razor when my Atra (remember those?) was constantly irritating my face, and i couldn’t see why adding more blades would help. Seemed counter-intuitive. Ah, me rambling….
A good electric shaver will save you literally thousands and, in many cases, it will give you a closer 'shave' than what you'll get with razors without risking cuts and nicks. I've used my Braun 790cc for almost 6 years and it would still serve me well had I not drop it in an inconvenient way and literally broke off its head. It was around ~€200 when I bought it and I replaced it's shaving film twice (~€30 per change) so, €260 for nearly 6 years of shaving. I'm now rocking Braun 9280cc for almost 3 years, still haven't replaced its head/film, and I paid a grand total of €169 for it. I'm never going back to razors.
I tried to start my own razor business a few years ago - and wasn't successful at it. However, in the process, I purchased a Leaf to see what the competition was like and I have to say... they did a good job! If you're looking for a solid shave and like Levi and myself have sensitive skin, go for the Leaf. Another alternate worth mentioning is the OneBlade.
The best deal was after I discovered Dollar Shave, before I signed up, I discovered you could buy direct from their supplier Dorco from South Korea via their San Diego HQ/ warehouse in bulk on their North American website and save even more $ ! Which is what I did. Unfortunately some free trade regulation crap that supposedly they were violating wouldn't let them sell direct so their website was shut down about 4 years ago. I just finished using my last cartridge from them this year! Currently using Harry's but that's only because I just learned about Leaf Shave a month or so ago, so when my Harry's stash is done some time next year, I think I'll be making the switch to an even more eco shave option.
I switched to a double edge safety razor earlier this year and honestly I don't think I can ever go back to a goopy cartridge razor. There's just something classy and satisfying about shaving with it. That's been cool because, while I did it for environmental reasons, I've been able to sell my friends on it on the coolness factor and the fact that I bought 100 razors for super cheap to last through the year. I've considered getting a leaf for when I travel since airport security gets squirrely when I bring my whole shaving set up, but overall it's been so worth the upfront cost.
I've been subscribed to Harry's Shave Club for years. I pay 20.00 every four months and the razors last forever. My husband and daughter use mine and we still have blades left when 4 months rolls around. I used to spend a damn fortune buying from Schick and Gillette!
It really is such a gut punch when you realize how much you spent before finding what products work best for you at a reasonable price range. Happy that's worked out so well for you!!
As someone who started shaving his head post cancer Gillette fusion blades have been the only ones I can find that allow me to not slice my scalp 17 times during my weekly shave. For the face I find literally anything works, a safety razor, a butter knife if you try hard enough. But for the scalp I need something with more finesse.
I’ve never tried to shave my head-I probably have enough bumps from sun damage over the course of a lifetime that I would cut myself repeatedly and have to wrap my head in a turban. I gave up electric razors long ago and I love shaving my beard.
Sensitive skin actually means you should be using a single blade. The thrashing is from multiple blades trying to cut the same hairs and it tugs and stutters instead of gliding. One pass with 3x blades is also 3x blade passes, each and every pass.
Hi folks! I've been shaving with DE (double edge) razors for 11 years. I stopped using Gillette back in 2011 after purchasing Muhle R89 (just stating model, no ads). I bought Derby green razors - they didn't work for me, so tried the Japanese Feather blades (bought a box of 100). After 7 years I haven't finished the box of blades yet, which I am pretty happy about. Just if you are keen to move to Double Edge - remember, there are different aggressiveness razors (Feather D2 is one of the least aggressive and Muhle R41 is one of the most aggressive) and different aggressiveness blades... Feather and Kai considered one of the most aggressive (read sharp), while Sputnik ones are one of the softest. But again, different combinations will work for different people even with the same skin type (e.g. sensitive) - you may like R41 with soft blade, while your friend will end up with cuts on his face coz Feather suits him better. So, yeah, if you are to embark on this journey it is pretty awesome one ;). Also there are plenty of youtube channels dedicated to traditional shaving (e.g. Kensurfs, geofatboy, razor emporium, etc...)
Their Fusion Proglide cartridges are comfortable and gives a decent shave at first but the lubricating strip doesn't last long. After 4 shaves, it gets worn and shaves to become uncomfortable. 1 cartridge doesn't last me 2 weeks much less a month. I have been using de razor for 8 months now and love it.
One thing that seems to be becoming a trend lately with newer products I feel like, is the ability to give the user a freedom to use their product with equipment that is not directly the same. i.e. the specific razor blade. It seems so many companies today are trying to strong arm us into only using their specific product to make a few extra bucks, even if there product is not as good.
After switching to regular DE safety razor i now have no irritation. It has a learning curve, but it is worth it. I would also recommend to buy a nice shaving soap and brush. Soap foam does not clog the razor like can foam or gel and it gives a better shave.
Safety razors are a blast! Everyone should try it out, especially those with sensitive skin (I’m looking at you Levi!) because once you get the hang of it, there’s no rashes or ingrown hairs. I personally recommend Rockwell razors. I own one 6C and it’s awesome. Or even, yes, Gillette. They have two models that support double edge blades now, the heritage and the king c Gillette. I also recommend, since you’re already in this rabbit hole, using a shaving brush and cream to have a proper wet shaving experience.
I switched over to a double-edged safety razor when I was in high school. The Merkur 23C is really beginner-friendly and it gave me painless shaves. I only fully realized that when circumstance forced me to use a cartridge razor once after that and using a new cartridge felt like dragging broken glass over my face, in comparison to DE blades. That sealed the deal for me.
Thanks for the informative video. As another alternative, consider ditching the canned shaving cream and using a brush. Same idea as the razor - large up-front cost for a badger brush and scuttle but lower long-term cost for soap blocks which typically last for months.
I bought the exact same razors for a fraction of the cost direct from Dorco for years until they stopped selling in North America. They were inexpensive and worked well enough, but the packaging was so excessive. I've been using an environmentally sound double edge safety razor, badger brush, and saving soap. No more excessive packaging and I get a super inexpensive, close shave.
I have been using safty razor for 4 years now and the best thing a bout them is that they are great for sensetiv skin. Maby you need to try a diffrent combenation of handle blad and shaving soap.
If you are using cartridges, the Gillette Fusions do work the best. Once the company started feeling the heat from the competition they actually admitted that a cartridge could last as long as a month for some people if taken care of properly.
When I used cartridge blades (I use a safety razor now) I hardly ever bought new blades. I used each blade as long as I could, probably a lot longer than recommended, and pretty much bought a whole new set with a handle and a few blades every time I needed to replace it, because it was cheaper.
Never knew this was such a big deal over there. I grew up in the Philippines where my grandfather literally taught me how to shave using a machete and still using it 'till today. 😂
About 6 or so years ago, I picked up an old school style straight razor that took replaceable blades for like 20 bucks, and a box of derby single blades for another 10 and haven't looked back.
Sensitive skin is fine with a safety razor, you just need to use a different technique than you use with a multi blade. Short strokes, light pressure, frequent rinsing. And the upfront cost can be very low too. I've got more expensive ones, but my favourite handle cost $4 and my go to blades cost me about 7 cents each.
63 bucks for a safety razor? I got mine for 8, it even has the butterfly mechanism, I've been using it for 4 years now and it's still as good as brand new
this is why i went to straight razor(Shavette). So cheap to get new blades and easy to use after you get the hang of it. I also think it gives a cleaner shave
I love the look/theory behind leaf razors. I was super excited when my safety razor broke and I bought a leaf razor as a replacement. Unfortunately though whatever the coating is they put on the metal to make them look nice peeled off within a year so it looks kinda scabby now, and my skin's too sensitive for using all 3 blades in it😔 I probably just got unlucky, but I'm now patiently waiting for the day the leaf razor breaks before I can go get myself a double edged safety razor. 😆 knowing my luck the razor will be otherwise fantastically built and never break!
Ahhh haven't had that experience on our end but that's a bummer! Double edged safety razors are super cool, hoping you can get your hands on one relatively soon 🤞
Leah’s actually did the same thing but it still works fine. It was a defect they had acknowledged a year or so ago and apparently resolved? Sorry to hear that though!
The original DSC ad dropped when I was studying marketing/design at college and it was HUGE, even all the way down here in South Africa. The amount of times I watched it in the context of a lecture or for an essay is wild.
I've used schlick, Gillette, and DSC. They were all about the same quality ime, I just didn't like multiblade cartridge razors for a variety of reasons (environmental impact being a major factor). When I was 18 I switched to a single bladed safety razor and it was a much better shave, add in wet shaving and you've got a sweet shave. The only thing I can say is a better shave than a safety razor is a straight razor; the downside to straight razors is that you need to maintain them and sharpen them to keep getting a good shave.
@@paulcarlin5181 i don't rememver from the top of my head but its a philips one. I have since switched back to safety razors as I no longer shave clean, but have a beard now and I found its easier to establish lines with those
The first time (I was 17) I used a double edged safety razor it was the best experience ever. I informed myself on the Gentelmens Gazette (I am pretty sure the price coulumn is from them). Get a descent razor that has a closed cam and get some soft blades, your shave will be much better and atleast my skin (which always burned after using a Gillete) has always been much happier. After the second time I was already good enough and I only cut myself once ever (I was using a feather blade, extremly sharp). I can only reccomend it, and after a month you wont be any slower than with the Gillette. The leaf also seems like a good alternative though.
That Leaf Shave AD though. That being said, it is nice to see a multi blade option that is sustainable, I never thought I would see the day that becomes a thing.
used to use dollar shave club to save a few bucks not like i shave much. then a friend introduced me to a double edge safety razor. was a game changer. it was cheaper, shaves even closer and i personally use the one edge for 3 shaves and then the other edge. by the third shave it does feel duller but cuts as good as a cartridge fresh out the box really. the blades are so cheap you could just use the two edges once and dump literal cents worth. as mentioned in the video you can get hundred packs for the same price as a two pack or whatever for cartridges. i got my handle butterfly opening style on amazon for like 20-30 bucks australian and a variety pack of i think 50 or 80 blades with various brands because i was new to using for maybe 10-15 bucks (btw still going through them and its been 2 ish years now). only thing i learned was to just shave it slow and you will be 99% fine and find a nice shaving cream i personally like the menthol ones makes my face feel minty fresh especially when using a cartridge razor if i literally have 2 seconds to shave which would give some razor burn but that menthol though hides it pretty well. i actually use dollar shave clubs shaving cream with the mint or the shea butter in the can order those every few months or so. or poraso in the green tube paste or cup. at least thats my rambling story. one day i may switch to an electric razor like my older brothers dont have to mess with shaving creams and all that but that wont be for a long while
I originally used Dollar Shave Club then I discovered a year in that they were just rebranded Dorco Razors which I could buy by the case off Amazon for half of what DSC costs. Literally snaps right onto the DSC handle 😂
I went from the Gillette fusion to a $7 safety razor from eBay and never looked back. It's not as good, but it's close enough at a literal fraction of the price.
I use double edge since 50 years now. I had a fling with Fusion but the multi-blade just forces too many ingrown stubs. There are many different options for a double edge implement, and I choose a top-of-line Indian brand - yes, outside of US and EU, the rest of the world use double-edged razors and there are many top brands selling for a fraction of a German razor. I have a tendency to use top-of-line Japanese blades; yes even the DE blades have a katana version...
When your current razor dies it might be worth checking out safety razors again. You can buy sample packs of individual blades to find what works best for you.
I use a safety razor butterfly which my grandfather used in his days. It works great and the blades are very cheap and durable. No need for warm, electric Gillette razors :p
In 1903, King Gillette perfected the philosophy of; “Give away the razor, make the money on the blades.” Ink jet printers, did the same thing by selling the printers cheap, then charging high dollar for the ink cartridges
The 'upfront investment' for a double edge razor isn't entirely accurate: there are surprisingly cheap options out there. Gillette for example has a few full metal ones that cost 15-25$ which is cheaper than a bigger pack of their safety razor cartridges (and those are good razors that will last a long time; they are basically the same kind they've been making since the 50s and your grandpa might still have his old one laying around somewhere in perfect working order)
Bought a good condition double edge 1965 Gillette adjustable safety razor on Ebay for $18.00 and it works great after you get used to it. And blades are cheap
I buy an electric razor and hair trimmer like once every two years for 20 bucks and use it until the blades get dull and can't be resharpened and I just never shave anymore
the thing I do since I'm 17 with my shaving is, I don't.. I buy a trimmer and once in a while I trimmy trim trim the bad boy that is my beard! I know I know, not anybody can grow, rock or even want's a beard, but when you take care of it, it is not a health hazard as many think it is.
A few years ago i got myself a leaf razor. I was scared of straight razors (had some sh experiences before). I absolutely love it and have not yet had to buy new blades (i got pre snapped ones). I have only once nicked myself, when i put the blades in a too aggressive setting for my skin. I love how i can just use it like a normal razor because of the pivoting head. I dont think ill go back to disposable razors ever. I hate the waste and they also didnt do a great job for me. And i hated how hair always got stuck and was hard to clean out. Things like dollar shave club just seem to create more waste and consumerism.
When I was 18 and joined the Army my razor was the single blade razor that you opened the handle and put in new blade. That was my razor for about 3 weeks when I decided to try disposable multi bladed razors. I settled on two bladed razors but hated the disposable and moved to the permanent handle and replaceable head. Those worked well till shick and gillete started fighting by adding more and more blades. I tried the Mach 3 Turbo .... and a 4 blade one and loved the 3 bladed. Now I agree them blades are expensive, but for the past 30 years I've shaved in the shower ( this last year not though grrrrrr ) and my blades last forever. I have in my cupboard a couple trays of blades and on them I wrote the year I bought them. 2015..... As long as I'm in the shower and using copious amounts of water and shaving gel .... my blades last forever.
My gf has had one razor, forgot the brand but it’s one and she’s had it for years. YEARS. All she has to do is change the blade. So she gave me a similar one by the same brand, imma save so much now
I have a double edged safety razor, and I’d say I love it so much more than disposable razors; they just work better and are the easiest razor to clean. My fiancé has the Leaf razor specifically and loves his as well!
Have to second safety razors. The one I have I’ve been using for around 6 years. I buy a big pack of safety razor blades once a year. It takes a little bit of practice and some upfront costs, but I haven’t bought a plastic razor or cartridges in years.
I remember that Levi replied on my comment the first time he did a sponsorship video for Leaf Razor. This is a great. I've been here since Levi Hildebrand save the world 🤙
I've just been using electric razors for as long as I can remember. Other than for enjoying the traditional feel of a blade on your face I don't see the point of not going electric. I've only been through 3 razors in the past 15 years, and it's only because the foil on the smoothing attachment on both the first two broke and the companies didn't offer replacements -- which definitely needs to be worked on -- but I feel proud knowing that in all my years shaving since high school, I haven't wasted a cent on or thrown away any disposable blades.
if you have sensitive skin you should shave with a safety razor. Personally I can recommend a Henson AL 13 2.0. This together with an Erbe blade and Proraso sensitive pre-shave, soap and Aftershave Balm.
I just use a straight razor. No waste, thing will keep for decades if handled right and you just strop it on some leather before the shave and have the "fresh new blade" experience every time. Plus it looks cool.
I remember when the Mach-3 came out Gillette must have spent 100s of millions on marketing them. Switching to an old school safety razor was the best thing I ever did.
Leaf''s website says the following about recycling blades, "Important: most municipality residential recycling programs aren't equipped for recycling blades, we suggest asking before attempting curbside recycling." It seems to be a common misperception that you can just throw single or double edged blades in the recycling so long as they are in a tin. Your critique about Gillette's cartridge blade recycling program would therefore also apply to Leaf's blade recycling program. I also doubt many will make the trek to a scrap metal facility to see if their blades will be accepted. That said, the amount of waste produced by single or double edged blade razors is less, so they have that going for them.
safety razor is like a fountain pen, it's expensive but it's meant to last for a lifetime.. so it's just one time purchase.. and those double edge razor are dirt cheap... you are really going to save a lot in a long run...
I used to like them because I hate most women’s razors but I feel like DSC quickly raised the prices of the replacement razor heads to the point it was no longer worth it. It’s even worse if you want to use the heads on multiple large areas of your body because the blades get dull quicker
At first, I was like "Pshhh I don't need you to give me an alternative!" and by the end, I was like "Ohhhh I'm cheap and that looks like a better alternative!".
I switched to single blade about 6 years ago, took me a couple weeks to get used to it but its the best decision I could've made, I'm not going back to cartridges. Blades are cheap, I almost never cut, shave is same if not better and it looks badass while doing it. Plus I don't throw plastic into the waste every week.
I have the Merkur 39C “sledgehammer” it’s about 10 years old cost about $40 Blades $10 -$25 per 100 blades lasts about a year Still looks and works great Yes i use it to shave my head
Best thing I ever did was get a set of clippers with a foil shaver attachment. It's not quite as close a shave as a razor, but by 2pm the difference is negligible anyway 😂
@@DarthVader964 I'm pretty sure they're not universal. If you buy a men's trimmer set they usually come with one, along with the standard length guides etc. Mine is just an el-cheapo Remington from the local department store, but it works well enough. Just cut to length with the clippers, then swap the clipper head for the foil shaver to finish up. Easy-peasy.
Been using a double edged safety razor for the last two years and only recently got the technique right. You really can’t beat the price, though, and a closer shave with the right technique.
This is why I switched to a safety razor, 200 shaves for 10 euro and much much smoother. Also the blades are fully recyclable, its just steel, re melt it and make other stuff. Also they don't all cost 70 euro, I got mine for 30 euro and its lasted without a scratch for ages now.
Honestly just learn how to use a safety razor it's not hard at all and I have sensitive skin as well. I bought a shitload of razor blades for it 2 years ago for like 20-30 bucks on amazon and I STILL haven't ran out of them.
I use a very old safety razor (it was my father's) for daily shaves. It's not as close as a multi-blade but for those special occasions when I want a very close shave without cutting my face to shreds I use a better quality disposable. Used that way, it lasts a long time.
I've been using the Philips Norelco Body Groomer for over 10yrs now. It's a water proof electric razor and a single blade refill on Amazon runs about $16 with free shipping if I pick it up from an Amazon locker down the street. I don't love it so I try to make each blade last about 30 days so as to be more economical though after falling into such a comfortable and habitual shaving routine I'd be hard pressed to find a more affordable substitute for what I have now🤷🏻♂️
I’ve never understood the upfront cost thing on safety razors. I bought mine on ebay for $12 Australian dollars. Wood handle aluminium body. And then I think it’s $10 for 100 blades
I'll digitally bookmark that site and think it over. It might use it as a winter/hoilday gift idea. My extended family always wants to gift tangible items to me.
Since I too have sensitive skin, I had a better plan years ago. Buy a quality electric trimmer without depth guides, that I use every other day trimming my face to a very short stubble, never shaving again or buying shaving supplies.
I’m still using my original DSC handle after several years & I don’t get nicked as often when using similar brands. At one point, I had a stockpile of cartridges so ended up canceling my subscription. I now buy them piecemeal and it’s still cheaper.
DE razors are miles better for sensitive skin, since you only have one blade running over your skin. I never get razor burns ever since I switched, so I don't know why you said you need a multi-blade for sensitive skin.
While Gillette is really gouging customers, their Mach3 blades usually last for a work week. So when you get a large pack, when there are discounts, you can get set for a year, without breaking the bank. I get that I pay maybe 60 dollars where others pay 15, over a year, other options are just too much of a hassle.
Yes any razor where your not using a proprietary blade is better financially and environmentally. There are several options too such as double edge safety razors, leaf, supply, and probably many more. Plus you get a better shave with no in grown hairs. Gillette went to their cartridge model because their patent on DE blades expired.
if you really want to save money get a double edged safety razor. 100 blades costs about $12. i’ve been using them for years and they get you a better shave.
Takes some skill, and more time, though. For someone on a tight schedule a safety razor probably isn't worth it.
And if you get shaving soap instead of foam it lasts forever
100%! saves you money and helps out the planet a little 😜
Yep i’m 20 and have been shaving with safety razor using Feather premium blades for 2 years now, and have saved so much money and it’s more satisfying to shave imo. What’s funny is that I switched after looking for the best razor between Harry’s, DSC, Gillette, etc.

I would absolutely love to experience a straight razor shave!
Good man. You learned a valuable skill and helped your grandpa in the process. And shaving with a straight razor is pretty zen, imo.
@@bennetfox you can always find a good barber to do it for you! imo nothing compares to a straight razor
Good on you for being a good grandson.
Maybe you could make a video about Nutella and their ‘sustainability’ claims of using sustainable palm oil.
I'm never going back to razors.
yup,I simply stopped using a blade and kept the electric shaver, minimal stubble AND I get that third day look instantly😎
Every time I tried using an electric razor my skin would break out.
Norelco OneBlade?
Those leaf razors look dope. Safety razor blades that can turn into normal-looking blades, it's such a fascinating design
I’m looking to get a leaf, for the environment and decent shave, dollar shave sucks now. New blades are dreadful, I canceled after 6 years.
I also use Harry’s 5 stars
It really is such a gut punch when you realize how much you spent before finding what products work best for you at a reasonable price range. Happy that's worked out so well for you!!
Pro tip to make them last twice as long…… use a hairdryer after shaving and get all the moisture off the blades….👍👍👍. Keeps them from micro rusting
@@FutureProofTV Thanks!
@@SteveWKk Thank you so much, will do!
Went the double edge safety razor years ago and still on my 100 pack due to being one of those unfortunate souls who cant grow a full beard.
You didn't mention how Dollar Shave Club was just reselling Dorco brand razors from South Korea for a mark up
That’s right.
You can just buy Dorco from Amazon too.
For real?
Underrated comment.
I've always thought electric razors are the best for being more green. I've almost only used electric shavers
I’ve been using Leaf for a few years now, after seeing your original video, and after I used up the last of my razor cartridges. I love it
I bought the exact same razors for a fraction of the cost direct from Dorco for years until they stopped selling in North America. They were inexpensive and worked well enough, but the packaging was so excessive. I've been using an environmentally sound double edge safety razor, badger brush, and saving soap. No more excessive packaging and I get a super inexpensive, close shave.
Nice! I love that you are including a more responsible alternative for consumers. People watch your channel because they want to do better.
I have been using safty razor for 4 years now and the best thing a bout them is that they are great for sensetiv skin. Maby you need to try a diffrent combenation of handle blad and shaving soap.
yeah there are tons of artesian soap makers like sterling and noble otter, and they definitely have a shave soap for anyone
Honestly you're probably right! but the leaf shaves are also fantastic 😀
Yeah my skin irritation went down by a lot once I found the right combinations.
@@FutureProofTV yep got one for my girlfriend and she loves it
If you are using cartridges, the Gillette Fusions do work the best.
I switched to Leaf years ago, and they are hands down my favourite razor I've ever owned.
i've been using a safety razor and i love it! it's really not too difficult to use. dont use force, just glide dont press down!
Buying razors online was especially attractive because often to get one in person you had to flag down an employee to unlock the case
I love the look/theory behind leaf razors. I was super excited when my safety razor broke and I bought a leaf razor as a replacement. Unfortunately though whatever the coating is they put on the metal to make them look nice peeled off within a year so it looks kinda scabby now, and my skin's too sensitive for using all 3 blades in it😔
I probably just got unlucky, but I'm now patiently waiting for the day the leaf razor breaks before I can go get myself a double edged safety razor.
I have had electric shavers and only electric shavers for my face since I got gifted one by my parents as a teen and ive never had a complaint
What do you use? I just bought a Series 9 Pro. To me it cuts as well as my Mach 3 with two passes, WTG and Across TG. I won't do AGC with a blade. lol
$63 for a double razor you can get a good quality razor for $20-30 and blades are like .05¢-.10¢ each
I went from the Gillette fusion to a $7 safety razor from eBay and never looked back. It's not as good, but it's close enough at a literal fraction of the price.
Those leaf razors really work well. I use the leaf to shave my head. Does such a good job.
There's never a need for those warm razors hahahaa, thanks for joining us here Alex!
And anyway, they warm up quick and nice when you sluice them under hot water! :D
In 1903, King Gillette perfected the philosophy of; “Give away the razor, make the money on the blades.”
Ink jet printers, did the same thing by selling the printers cheap, then charging high dollar for the ink cartridges
I got my husband the leaf shave on your recommendation. He loves it and likes being able to choose the razor
Bought a good condition double edge 1965 Gillette adjustable safety razor on Ebay for $18.00 and it works great after you get used to it. And blades are cheap
Not much facial hair so a cheap electric shaver did the trick for me. My electric shaver last more then 10 years and still going strong.
Which brand?
I use a straight blade razor; I think it's cooler than disposable stuff.
I have a Norelco, blades last 12 months. No need for any shaving cream/gel, and I get a good shave quickly.
Ditched the cartridges and been using injector blades (single edge razors) for about a year now. Probably won't go back in the foreseeable future.
I subscribed for about 6 months a few years ago. I still have most of my blades. I can use them for a while and it works just fine.
2015..... As long as I'm in the shower and using copious amounts of water and shaving gel .... my blades last forever.
you don't need a multiblade just try a milder/adjustable razor like rockwell 2/6C
No thanks, how can you stand all that razer burn?
if you have sensitive skin you should shave with a safety razor.
Bought a electric Shaver at a deep discount for just under $100 four years ago and never had to replace anything
safety razor is like a fountain pen, it's expensive but it's meant to last for a lifetime.. so it's just one time purchase.. and those double edge razor are dirt cheap... you are really going to save a lot in a long run...
I personally just use the Philips one blade, I’ve had the same device for a year now and it cuts out the need for shaving cream
I'm currently waiting on my leaf shave order that I placed after watching your channel for a long time
I used to like them because I hate most women’s razors but I feel like DSC quickly raised the prices of the replacement razor heads to the point it was no longer worth it. It’s even worse if you want to use the heads on multiple large areas of your body because the blades get dull quicker
Kevin being cut off from screaming was surprisingly pleasing 😂
At first, I was like "Pshhh I don't need you to give me an alternative!" and by the end, I was like "Ohhhh I'm cheap and that looks like a better alternative!".
I really appreciated the recs at the end! I hope those additions stay!
I have the Merkur 39C “sledgehammer” it’s about 10 years old cost about $40
Blades $10 -$25 per 100 blades lasts about a year
Still looks and works great
Yes i use it to shave my head
Best thing I ever did was get a set of clippers with a foil shaver attachment. It's not quite as close a shave as a razor, but by 2pm the difference is negligible anyway 😂
Link to the foil shaver attachment?
@@DarthVader964 I'm pretty sure they're not universal. If you buy a men's trimmer set they usually come with one, along with the standard length guides etc. Mine is just an el-cheapo Remington from the local department store, but it works well enough. Just cut to length with the clippers, then swap the clipper head for the foil shaver to finish up. Easy-peasy.
Been using a double edged safety razor for the last two years and only recently got the technique right.
You really can’t beat the price, though, and a closer shave with the right technique.
I had to go watch the original ad again; it really was great. "Lookin' good Pop pop!"
appreciate the section with alternatives. I lacked it in uniclo video.
That opening beat is fire

Honestly just learn how to use a safety razor it's not hard at all and I have sensitive skin as well. I bought a shitload of razor blades for it 2 years ago for like 20-30 bucks on amazon and I STILL haven't ran out of them.
Glad they've worked out so well for you!!
Had to take a quick break to go and re-watch that fantastic commercial.
I use a very old safety razor (it was my father's) for daily shaves. It's not as close as a multi-blade but for those special occasions when I want a very close shave without cutting my face to shreds I use a better quality disposable. Used that way, it lasts a long time.
I've been using the Philips Norelco
Body Groomer for over 10yrs now.
It's a water proof electric razor
and a single blade refill on Amazon runs about $16 with free shipping if I pick it up from an Amazon locker down the street.
I don't love it so I try to make each blade last about 30 days so as to be more economical though after falling into such a comfortable and habitual shaving routine
I'd be hard pressed to find a more affordable substitute for what I have now🤷🏻♂️
I’ve never understood the upfront cost thing on safety razors. I bought mine on ebay for $12 Australian dollars. Wood handle aluminium body. And then I think it’s $10 for 100 blades
Great video. Currently using a safety razor to save some money, plastic free, ect...
I'll digitally bookmark that site and think it over. It might use it as a winter/hoilday gift idea. My extended family always wants to gift tangible items to me.
That's a great idea! Have to start thinking about the holidays early 👀
