  • Very excited with this 2022 new Henson AL 13 safety razor by @Hensonshaving company up in Ontario, Canada. This is a CNC milled piece of aluminum made into a safety razor with the precision of a instrument made for space. It's definitely a wow razor with all the ingenuity behind this safety razor. The precision that is used in Canada is outrageous and unheard of for the wet shaving community. Comparing a Gillette guard or Gillette fusion, a safety razor just blows it out of the park when it comes to a shave. Check one out below!
*GiveAway Leaf Thorn Razor drawing will be after the first of the year. Looking more like the end of January 2023. Good luck to everyone 😀 WINNER PAPSWhiskers

Use Henson medium with Astra blade and love it. No nicks or razor burn. Recently switched over from a Parker 29 L that served me well for 10 years. Still works well, but the Henson is a definite upgrade. I even use the cheaper vanderhagen puck soap that you get 3 pucks for 10 bucks. Love your channel.

Thanks for sharing. I need to put a Astra blade in it once for sure. I’m editing a video putting the Henson medium vs. the Rockwell 6C using Gillette Nacet blades. The Henson didn’t fair well on the first pass. Maybe a bad blade

@@pastamasta702 I did get it, yes, and it has absolutely been worth it over the last 6 months. It gives a really clean shave, it's simple and easy to keep cleaned, it's got a good weight to it, and all in all it's just a verry good razor. As for why I got this compared to other safety razors, mostly because the Henson guys got to me first, truth be told.

I had a Merkur 34C since 2014. I would place it in the same spot every time after my shave and one of my 4 kids lost it a few days ago so I was in the market for one. That shave sounded baby face smooth. I’m considering a DE safety razor for the first time, and I’m currently doing my research before purchasing one. I have coarse, natural, curly hair that makes me prone to ingrown hairs, and sensitive skin to boot. Hoping the DE safety razor is the answer for me. I’m also looking forward to future cost saving and minimizing plastic waste.
After listening to a few UA-cam channels on shaving, it sounds like you’re in for an enjoyable head shave with the Henson.
I’m strongly leaning towards the Henson Razor, but would value your feed back on blade recommendations for sensitive skin and to minimize ingrown hairs.
I would also love to enter your giveaway @ Ohio Shaves Thorn Razor. Thank you for your review on the Henson razor.
    Happy New Year❣️

Great shave! Glad they sent you the 2nd version of the razor as I understand they tweaked some things from the 1st version like I had. As I have said before the Henson is my favorite razor, glad you gave it a try. Good call on not using the RK, I 'm not a fan. I didn't buy the Henson until I was well into wet shaving. I didn't get it quickly because I didn't like light razors, especially cheap feeling aluminum. The Henson does NOT feel cheap and now it's weight feels amazing to me, I love it. You get used to the weight and you can keep going over spots if you need to without irritation. The titanium version, which I finally bought is a bit heavier and I love it but it is expensive. i got this in mild, as it is my first safety razor ever. the weight doesn't bother me because i've been shaving with cartridge razors for 30 years. i'm kicking myself at how much money i've wasted using those cartridges, when i could have gone this way and saved so much and got a better shave. i've had a full beard for over 20 years, and this razor makes it very easy to get my cheek and neck lines crisp vs a cartridge.

I figured I’d revisit. I FINALLY got a Henson AL-13 razor. Received it, today. Dr. Squatch has a green version. Happened to see an ad on Fb, last week. Had a Cyber Monday sale for 35% off. Excellent deal.
I used it with a Super Iridium blade. I loved the shave. It doesn’t shave real close, but close enough. No nicks, cuts or razor burn. Picks up a lot of hair on each pass. Rinses out, very easy. Compared to the Rockwell 6C, I’d say the Henson is better than the Rockwell with mild plates. Not overall, however.

I shaved many years with Gilette, last years with Fusion, before that with Mach3. My gut feel says that I will stick to the Henson. The Gilette Fusion for traveling in airplanes; I bet that the blades with safety razor are not allowed in airplanes. Thanks for the videos!

Just had my first shave with the AL-13. WOW! Definately has a learning curve, but i've been shaving with a Gillette 2 blade for a long time, so this wasn't that much different except the angle needed. I only went with the grain and across the grain, and holy crap! Very smooth shave! No cuts, even across a mole I have on my neck. I bought a sample pack of blades like you recommended. I used an Astra first and it was very smooth. I see I have a Lord in the bunch and have heard it pulls a little. Thanks for the content. I've had the Henson mild for 7 months and I have loved it! I've mostly used the RK blades and get very close and comfortable shaves. It's my first DE, so I didn't have to "unlearn" things like dealing with heavier razors. One thing I will say is that because the angle is completely dialed in, it does a great job of exposing differences in blades, soaps, etc. I'm trying several different right now, and have yet to find one better for me than the RK.

I love that you took the time to not only do more than one pass, but in different directions too. It’s a little too light. They should make a stainless steel model. I think more people would like the weight. It is not easy to use. I’m glad you like the Henson razor and went with the nacet blades. If I’m running late I’ll grab for one of my hensons as it is an autopilot shave. I picked up a high proof razor and that is even lighter than the Henson as I have to watch the pressure. My only complaint which is why I got the aggressive is that i can get a smooth shave but will have more of a 5 o clock shadow with the medium vs the aggressive. Honestly with all of the issues I had with Oneblade if Henson didn’t work out I would have probably gone back to cartridge razors.

My anecdotal experience that what they claim is true about the blade flex. After a few weeks I started getting really bad irritation again. At first I wrote it off as just a bad few days of my skin being more sensitive than usual. But then I noticed that I hadn't tightened the blade as much as I should have. So I twisted it tight and was back to no irritation. I also figure that maybe the blade flex is why people swear by straight edge razors.
As for the lightness, I've been using a razor I got that was handmade for years, and I was able to just swap the handles. I also didn't much care for the handle that came with the Hensen, but with the old handmade handle, it is fantastic.

Gotta say I'd been kicking around the idea of getting this one for a few weeks. Finally broke down and got it earlier this week, after seeing your demonstration. First shave this morning...un-freaking-believable! I have very sensitive skin (I have to use a Shark Super Chrome blade for how mild it is). This was the cleanest shave I've ever had in four years of wet shaving. Not a single nick, or spot of irritation. (I'd been using an EJ DE87 or 3One6 to this point.) It's like using the weight of a cartridge/disposable, but with actually decent blades!

After 2 or 3 shaves I learned to use a light touch and I haven't had a nick since. When I got my Henson (mild), the Astra Green was recommended and shipped with the razor. I can't recall why Henson switched to the RK blade? Also, I bought a two-pack of those silicone collapsible bowls at Amazon for about $6. They are great for travel.

Could you say which Rockwell plate the Henson Mild is similar to? I find Henson is a very mild razor and the head really drags on my skin so I plan on returning it. The included RK blades are the worst. Once it literally skipped across my chin like a rock skipping across water with an RK blade.

    • @OhioShaves

I don’t care for the RK blades either. As for Rockwell Plate #, may #2. There is a major difference in these razors. You have to get the correct angle on the Henson. With the Rockwell you do not, you can shave with a shallow or Steve angle, and still get a great shave 🪒

Wow, I'm strictly a one pass and done shaver, but that's because I can't grow a full beard or mustache if my life dependent on it, but I agree with you; The Henson AL-13 is great. I just got mine the other day and used it once, but it'll take a few more shaves to fully get the hang of this razor. I didn't think that this razor did that well on my neck, but perhaps that will change with more use.
