These are great tips! As someone who has moved 15 times lol, I would also add that when packing dishes and heavy platters, place them in the box vertically, not lying down flat. If you lay them down flat on each other you risk the ones on the bottom breaking from the weight of the others on top of them. All it takes is the truck going over one good sized bump in the road and you'll end up with more than a few cracked dishes.

Good hacks! As someone who has moved dozens of times myself, the first thing I do before a move is create a "Moving Kit" I take a plastic tote with a handle that I normally store craft supplies in and put all the supplies in it we will need during the moving process: tape, markers, box cutters, work gloves, a multitool, first aid kit, wet wipes, ziploc bags. For long distance moves, I've learned to include an extra phone charger, prescription medicines, granola bars, licenses and shot records for our pets. When we take apart furniture, all the parts go in the moving box labeled in their own zip bags.

These are great tips. I've moved a lot over the years too and my No. 1 tip, if you're moving right into your new place, is get your bed set up and made, then you can fall into it after a long, hard day of moving. My No. 2 tip, is put your kitchen essentials in one box, i.e., kettle, coffee maker, tea and coffee, couple of mugs and cutlery and don't forget your milk, cream, sugar if you use them. Hope your move goes smoothly Becky.

If your things will be in storage for awhile, try to keep plastic off and out of your belongings, it holds in moisture..also dont pack w. newspaper for long term storage..its a whole new ball park if your storing your belongings. love this video, thanks for the help.

Yep! I agree @dominicroman3. KISS...Keep it simple sweetie? Label boxes by location...and categories if you are a maximalist...Donate or Bin. Kitchen ~ electrical, cooking, entertaining, crockery, glassware, etc.. Bin or Donate. Lounge ~ books, tv, lamps, remotes, etc.. Office ~ etc.. Bathroom. Donate or Bin. Bedroom 1,2,3+. Linen Press. Laundry. Bin or Donate. And so on... Underestimate how much you think you will need.
Then do the bleeding obvious and Bin and Donate BEFORE you leave, And request the boxes be put where they will be unpacked when you or the removalist deliver them to the new place. Kitchen boxes in the kitchen. Bathroom box in the bathroom. And if you decluttered you will not have more boxes than storage space.
Depending on my timeframe I can take three weeks to three months to pack and be settled in three days once I arrive. Of course I can take three weeks to three months to 'learn' how to operate in my new space.
I know this works because one year I was given notice that a house was available to me just as I was given three week full time work And the removalist offered to move me on the 23rd...December...and I had family over for dinner on the 24th and the house was set up bar half a dozen boxes...and...my youngest's bedroom. And if I remember correctly, the Christmas tree was up too.

Labeling with sharpies is fine if you’re not worried about movers going through your things. As someone whose family had valuables stolen by movers, I will not label boxes with the names of the rooms they belong in or the contents.

I roll my clothes and put them in a plastic bin. I can fit about 30 shirts/blouses in a bin and it takes up a LOT LESS space than a large wardrobe box full of clothes on hangers.

I'm moving 1.500 miles away by an airplane, driving takes 3 days and I can't stand that long road trip. So I decided to take just a luggage and my important stuff. I sold everything so I'll buy everything again from scratch. It's way cheaper, easier, faster and you get new suff if you move that far.

I have been in packaging field for last 5 years...and recently i just shifted my house to near by area and used good grade boxes and tape for maximum security of my house holds... but I was quite surprised with the quality of this particular tape and was very strong compared to normal tapes we find around. If you want to try, Checkout "MS98" tapes in amazon

Honestly, who peels the tape off of boxes? It literally takes 1 second to just use a box cutter/knife. If for whatever reason there isn't one available, you could even use a key, or the corner of a credit card/license/whatever.
Just pull up slightly on one of the box flaps, enough to take the slack out of the tape, and then just pierce the tape wherever it is securing the flap you're holding by puncturing the middle of the seam. Within one or two tries, you should easily be able to open most boxes simply by strategically puncturing the tape in 3 spots, or even just 2 with luck or by practice.
This is by far the easiest, lowtech method to open a box as you can literally use practically anything you have handy to poke a hole in the tape. (Note: this trick only works if the boxes is sealed with packaging tape; if the box is sealed with duct tape, you won't be able to break the tape clean just by puncturing it, so you would need something sharp to cut through it. However, it's not likely to come to that, because duct tape is not the ideal tape for cardboard boxes since it loses its adherence rather easily. It's very probable that the tape will peel off on its own, so you really don't need to worry about cutting it anyway.)

I cannot do the whole clothes in rubbish/garbage bags. Knew a girl at Uni whose clothes were chucked in the bins. It was university accomidation, so we luckily had cleaners who took the bins out. She left all the bin bags of clothes in the kitchen on cleaning day - her moving day - and the cleaners mistook them for rubbish. Her siblings and her ended up dumpster diving to get her clothes back. To be fair to them, there were several people who would be lazy enough to leave massive bags of rubbish in the kitchen on cleaning day.

On boxes: absolutely right- DO NOT BUY BOXES...i get the best boxes at car auto spares shops.. they get parts in them... they are of the best quality and different sizes. They usually get thrown out back... i usually number my boxes according to the room with a list on the side : kitchen #1- cutlery ... Dining room #1 - glass vases etc ...this way i also know if any boxes are missing
Moving is the ONLY OPPORTUNITY to get rid of items not needed/worn/used ... two birds with one stone

Miss Beauty and Brains misspelled 'lounge' as 'longue'

Zane Wolf Except she wasn’t trying to spell ‘lounge’ though you fucking know it all. Google what a Chaise Longue is and then apologise for being a sarcastic little prick

I’ve only moved a few times, the last time we moved I was 8, and as a child I wasn’t responsible. At 17, moving as a low income family, and a sudden move because of my landlord not taking care of the home the way Section 8 requires.. it’s very stressful. We just got the eviction letter and now I’ve begun to pack things. Hopefully we find a nice place. It’s just such a stressful day and everything is so scary. As someone with extreme depression and anxiety moving is so hard.

TalkBeckyTalk I'm a laid back viewer - whatever you feel like putting out. As a full time UA-camr myself I know how hard putting your entire life out there can be sometimes especially if you feel pressure to do so. So whatever inspires you I'll happily watch 💕xax

Wow. 20 times?! I've only moved once in my life (from my parents house to my own house) and that was pretty easy because we didn't have much of anything to move. Now we have a whole house of furniture and moving that sounds really hard.
