Thanks! I'm hoping to move too....I had a few to share from past moves: Take out your clothing drawers and wrap with Saran wrap with the clothes still in them. You have instant boxes, they make the dressers lighter to move, and when you get to the new place, you just unwrap them and put them in the dresser. Also, all of those old papers that you shredded.... You can use the shredded paper for packing dishes and glasses. Much cheaper than peanuts or bubble wrap!
On truck loading day, ask a bunch of friends to help load the truck, but HAVE ALL YOUR BOXES READY! Never ask friends to pack your boxes on moving day. That is really rude. When you are done, feed everyone really well! Pizza always works.
If all your friends are too frail or lazy to help load the truck, call the local Mormon church. They will send young men to help, minister to you(okay, I can listen for help) and happy just to be well fed. When I'm rich, pizza; when poor, spaghetti or chicken dumplings.
Thanks for the tips! Some will help me, some I can't do. As an elderly, disabled person, moving can be catastrophic! I cried for a full week after finding out we "have" to move...to another state...far away to a state that I do not like at all! I'm moving from the beautiful Pacific NW to the South. (Culture shock!!) I will miss the forests, all the green and my mountains. We also have no one to help us, so we've started packing 5 months ahead of time. Hubby retired, so income demands this whole ordeal! So, being organized will at least help relieve the enormous grief and stress I'm experiencing!
I think that some, not all U-Haul stores have a used box section, so call around to find one that does. I made numerous trips over time as they were close to me and got way more than we can possibly need. If you have the time, you can get all the right sizes you need in multiple trips. Remember, smaller is better for heavy stuff, especially if you are moving yourself. Will return extras after our move so that others can take advantage of this wonderful free service. Saved me a lot of money. Also, saw a person at my storage facility loading his station wagon with empty garment boxes with their metal bars. He was thrilled to get rid of them. He was kind enough to drive them over to my unit so that I could take them home as they fit in my car. Your hack about using garbage bags right over the clothes on hangers is brilliant! Best idea ever! Thanks so much! ❤
This was so helpful! Thank you for this vid. I have moved a lot, but the trash bag over the closeted clothes hack just blew my mind. The saran wrap trick is awesome, too. Well done, girl!
My uncle owned a liquor store and gave me tons of boxes for our move from Wisconsin to Arizona. They are nice strong boxes and many have lasted over 40 years.
Best packing and moving video EVER!!! I'm moving overseas and have no time for BS. Thanks. Will go buy clingwrap and garbage bags (I don't have either) as soon as the stores open.
Watching this March 29, 2020 while the COVID 19 Virus is in full force across the US. Trying to move & get things done is pretty tough. When I called some stores for boxes they refused to keep any due to the virus 'Maybe" contaminating cardboard !! If they unpack food from those boxes & put it on the shelf for buyers - what is the difference? Rather I would buy the food or touch the box it came in?
Thanks for your tips. I have only done local moves less than 2 miles each time which was only twice in my lifetime but we are getting ready to start looking at different states to move to and I am so nervous. Your moving hacks will be helpful when it comes time in a year and a half.
In addition to your moving hacks... U-Haul also has free boxes that are used gently you some still look brand new you might find some tape on it or somebody wrote on it with the marker the contents of the box but who cares those boxes are free so you should ask where are your free boxes?? Another place you can get free boxes as well as a lot of moving material packing material is from the recyclable bins in your neighborhood. They have a lot of boxes that people throw away sometimes you find a lot of good plastic a lot of good bags that have popcorn in it a lot of good movie materials are right there and this is how I pack. Of course you got to go buy the tape though.
Thank you for this video I might be moving out soon with my family this year and I’m very excited I have moved out before but I don’t remember anything because last time I last moved when I was three and I only remember two moments that were both unnecessary and aren’t helpful and I have a question should we get rid of the closing that we think that we’re not gonna wear and we think that are out of style for us and that are just not our type before moving so we can start fresh?
The BEST moving hack that no one does: get a “Home Owners” binder that you can keep any important documents in! Here’s what I keep: Section 1: your most important documents. section 2: contact information: who you use for what so if there’s any questions that come up you can keep track of who to call. Section 3: log of what you used in the house! Notes of what paint colors you used so if you or the next owner needs to match the color they don’t have to guess, what specific tiles you have in the kitchen, little things like that that would be helpful to reference. Section 4: Maintenance logs and then after the log section, a page holder to keep maintenance receipts in. Replacing the AC, fixing a leak, etc. it’s good to be able to reference who did it and when everything was done so in the event it breaks you can find that info quickly. When my mom bought her current house, the previous owner had the most in depth master binder of any home related things so it was so much easier for my mom to see the homes history and not have to guess with so many important things!
I have to move out by the end of the month so it's kind of hard to know what day to rent a truck for because I have no idea when I'll be able to move into my new place. I haven't gotten a new place yet. So many places don't even post listings until the second week of the new month for the next month availability. Last time I had to move out and my new place wasn't available until a week later so I had to rent the truck for like 10 days because it took us 3 days to load. We filled a 17 ft truck 5 times. I didn't feel comfortable driving a bigger truck. I moved to a smaller place and had to put most of my stuff in storage and the last truck load was filled with the stuff I brought to the new place. I still have that storage. Almost $300/mo. Since 2017!
My teenage son works at Walmart and I drive him there several times a week. I asked him to see if he can get some boxes and he had such an attitude. I found some on fb marketplace and Craigslist. All the ones I saw on offer up were old or too far. But those are all good places to get boxes. Also liquor stores usually have lots of boxes and that's the easiest place I've found to get them.
If anyone's reading the comments and sees this, fast food boxes are free too. Just make sure there's no food or grease on them, and you're good to go! They also come in a few different sizes and they usually toss them in the dumpster. (you might have to re-tape them if they get flattened, but you've likely already gotten tape, so... not a big deal)
I moved once but I was two so I don't remember a thing now I'm moving from new jersey to California I'm really nervous cause I'm switching schools. I love the house though!
First hack is smart as f. I threw all my clothes in a trash bag but the hanging idea is so smart! Especially because I’m not going to have a dresser, only hanger space!
Good hacks for sure. But Wal-Mart definitely does not save boxes for anyone. The volume of deliveries in and out all day does not allow time for them to put some boxes aside for you. Good video though. Helpful ideas.
Maybe some locations have different rules, but I've never had a problem getting boxes from Walmart for free ;) I would just call ahead of time and talk to a manager.
The movers said that me and my family can’t put anything in suitcases (use extra suitcases to pack things) :( also you can’t keep the clothes in the drawers and just wrap them up!
you keep your suitcases with you when moving so you have clean clothes to wear while moving. Any left over clothes from your drawers go inside your suitcases as well. Hope this helps
Vlogs by Bri 😂😂😂 well I’m about halfway done now. I have to be out of my old place by Sunday. So I have a little time. Hope your move is going better than mine!!
Thanks! I'm hoping to move too....I had a few to share from past moves:
Take out your clothing drawers and wrap with Saran wrap with the clothes still in them.
THIS IS SO CLEVER !!!!’ Thank you Delta Dawn
This is exactly what I am going to do!
Except that shredded paper makes a huge mess. If you don't mind the mess then yeah, it works great.
On truck loading day, ask a bunch of friends to help load the truck, but HAVE ALL YOUR BOXES READY! Never ask friends to pack your boxes on moving day. That is really rude. When you are done, feed everyone really well! Pizza always works.
yes! Pizza is always my go to
I feel like Chinese in a half empty sitting room surrounded by unpacked boxes is kind of iconic
Mia I agree
I disagree. Asking for help is never rude! People who care will just help.
If all your friends are too frail or lazy to help load the truck, call the local Mormon church. They will send young men to help, minister to you(okay, I can listen for help) and happy just to be well fed.
When I'm rich, pizza; when poor, spaghetti or chicken dumplings.

U-HAUL has a free box section. So, use and bring back and than other people can have free boxes as well.
I didnt know that!! Ill have to check there next time
Good to know! Thanks!
I think that some, not all U-Haul stores have a used box section, so call around to find one that does. The saran wrap, mind blown! Def will use. Thank you!!!!
Get boxes from plasma centers and other medical facilities... they have clean fresh boxes from new supplies every day
This made my move really quick and easy!!!!
same here! Happy it helped you too :)
This was so helpful! Thank you for this vid. I have moved a lot, but the trash bag over the closeted clothes hack just blew my mind. The saran wrap trick is awesome, too. Well done, girl!
I get boxes from the liquor store
My uncle owned a liquor store and gave me tons of boxes for our move from Wisconsin to Arizona. They are nice strong boxes and many have lasted over 40 years.
I learned who my true friends were this week🙄
It happens that way sometimes 😩
NaturallyNellzy same! Learning right now. No offers to help but they sure ask what am I giving away smh
Am I watching a drama?
Both of my grown sons volunteered to help and neither of them showed up this weekend. Worse when it's your own kids. 😣
I was wrong, one of them showed up with his wife. They helped a lot!
Best packing and moving video EVER!!! I'm moving overseas and have no time for BS. Thanks. Will go buy clingwrap and garbage bags (I don't have either) as soon as the stores open.
Moving at the beginning of October and we have had almost nothing packed up my room isn’t even touched it so stressful
So stressful but it will be over soon

Thank you, this video helped a lot! I'm moving in a few days and I'm excited yet stressed about packing my things etc.

I couldn’t imaging moving during this time. I hope it all works out for you with the least amount of stress 🤗
The post office will hold mail until you get moved in.. Just a FYI

This was helpful
Best moving hacks video I’ve watched so far... been watching them all day! Thank you!!!
I feel like moving is the best opportunity to get rid of things you don’t use. I would definitely donate and get rid of the items you no longer wear
Thank you for this helpful video. I am moving in 3 weeks so I will definitely use this
These hacks literally saved me so much! I’m moving in two weeks so THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!
These hacks I've heard before but that lighting and make-up is so on point!

Clear containers are especially helpful for kids so they can see their items and not panic
Great info. Thanks

Thank you so much as a CHILD this helps ME!!!
Great tips!
Great tips, thanks! :)
Silverware hack was great!
First hack is smart as f. I threw all my clothes in a trash bag but the hanging idea is so smart! Especially because I’m not going to have a dresser, only hanger space!
Place your mail on hold and then set a date it for it to be delivered once you're at your new residence.
Thank this helps me so much
I can't seem to say no to going to things because I'm moving so far from where I live now it is also the home where I was born
That last tip is really useful! I bought one of my friends brunch and asked her to help me, and she said she has back pain! Really, bye Felicia!

Thank you for this!!!!!
My mother in law works at Wal-Mart and they have saved wayyyyy more boxes than we even need

Good hacks for sure. But Wal-Mart definitely does not save boxes for anyone. The volume of deliveries in and out all day does not allow time for them to put some boxes aside for you. Good video though. Helpful ideas.

They do save the boxes. I know because I've worked at 4 different Wal-Mart's through college and they will set them aside
I’m watching this because I’m moving tommorrow lol!
Okay well I told my boss I was moving and she gave a 7 day work week full of split shifts so 🤷
Wrap the silverware tray so "things don;t crawl into it " ? - You may want to move. . .
Storage units and a lot of moving trucks are crawling with buggies
Hmm.
Bro me and my best friend I asked her if she wanted to help and now we want to start a UA-cam channel😂😂
I get the keys to my new place Monday... I’ve packed NOTHING 🥴
