As a Walmart employee, we are always glad to give boxes of any size to anyone who needs them! The cardboard bailer is honestly way more frustrating that just giving the boxes away!
Truth, ex-Walmart employee here. I hated cardboard bailer! And I NEVER made a bail, my husband (who also worked there) was always called to the back room to make bail. But of crouse they have to caught you with the boxes before you make it to said bailer.
For anyone needing boxes for moving go to your local grocery store or Walmart. Just ask if you can have some of there boxes. They will give them to you for free!! It's what I do when I need to move. Free always come in handy
My family uses Wendy's fry boxes when we need them! They're heavy duty, a good size, and for the most part pretty clean. I'll have to ask next time I'm at Walmart though 😉
I love moving. The stress takes my mind off of other stresses in life! And also its a great chance to filter through the old things to make room for the new!
Haha the small box thing is SO key! I packed all my books into a huge box and was super impressed with myself getting them all to fit so neatly and perfectly, doh - literally couldn't lift it, I was unpacking it 5 minutes later 😑
Boxing everything is a great tip. Last year, when we moved I didn't realize it would be such a problem. My bedroom had a lot of things left that were not in boxes and it took longer than necessary to take everything. Another good tip is to purge anything you won't need. It saves space and time when you are moving.
I actually kept all my food in the fridge and taped it closed and had it moved to the new place and turned on right away and all my stuff were good , exactly like a cooler.
Also, if you have the time, seize the opportunity to go through and detox all your stuff! Last time I moved to Seattle, I went through my wardrobe and wound up making a couple hundred dollars at buffalo exchange. Takes time though, but then there's less stuff to move!
You forgot a very important one for people who aren’t moving with movers: If you have especially heavy boxes, GET WORK GLOVES. The kinds with the grips on the palms. It makes it SO MUCH EASIER.
Another helpful tip is to make a spreadsheet if you want to get really specific about what is in each box. (Or just to take inventory of what you own.) I label each box with a number and write the destination. For example Box #1 Kitchen, and then in a google spreadsheet list what exactly is in the box, like sponges.
who "buys" boxes? Like, you can get them for free almost anywhere, drugstores, supermarkets, pharmacys. I got a HUGE box full with folded boxes inside for free at my regular supermarket. Boom, I didn't waste a single $ and then it goes to recycle
Exactly! I've moved a gazillion times and never bought a single box, I just get them from stores. I just ask an employee and they're usually very willingn to help, especially when they're stocking shelves. Sometimes I've been told to go to the back if they've already put them out, I just have to put them back together with mailing tape, but either way it's just very easy to get free boxes of different sizes. Just got some more boxes from a supermarket a couple of days ago. Walmart is also a very good place to get boxes, late at night when they're stocking shelves is the best time, you can get all different sizes from different departments in one single round.
GEt Banana Boxes from supermarket! OMG- I have boxes for like 12 years! Banana's smoosh easily so the boxes for them are reinforced and HAVE HANDLES! AMAZING.
Great tips! We're moving Friday and it's going much smoother than in the past. Love your overalls tip! And something that really helped me was a list I made last time with all the phone #'s and account #'s for utilities, credit cards, etc. and a check list to go down to remember to change addresses w/magazines, drivers license, registration, post office, etc. I'm so glad I saved it all. Oh, and we invested in about 10 plastic bins from home depot a few years back and the handles really help with the extra heavy stuff like books.
@ 5:10 You can also use an apron with big blousy pockets to hold all your markers, sticky-tape and measuring tape- also an important critical item for moving into a place & good to keep handy. Might also want to keep cheap heavy leather-handed gardening gloves and a few band-aids, and a tube of triple antibiotic ointment, as I know these are essential for moves. Believe it or not the gloves seem to give extra strength! It's a weird sensation, but maybe it's mechanism is to trick the mind into ignoring distracting things like the textures of boxes, and lets your hands focus more on the important things like power-lifting, hefting and slinging boxes onto the hand-truck & into the moving truck.
moving in a few weeks! definitely will use that kind of tape instead of buying the clear tape. also, i work at a grocery store and i'm taking boxes from there. please please ask the grocery for boxes. we get too much shit and too much cardboard.
I've moved quite a few times too so one good tip is to use garbage bags to stuff clothes in. Easy no hassle and reusable too! but do remember to label them! ;) I like the Glad forceflex ones.
If you do not have overalls you can also have like a fanny pack with those essentials. I kept a scissor, tape and markers on my plastic fanny pack and it was life changing on the process 😅
Packing a travel bag is so smart! I could use a 'soothing sista,' new subscriber here! Watching this made me realize how far along I am since I've already moved most of my stuff but now need all my personal belongings and my entire wardrobe and somewhere to put it, but still, a little less to worry about so I'm less overwhelmed now! Love this cute brick wall background!
thanks so much for your tips- especially your tape tip is THE BEST!!! I thought I knew a lot about tape but I did not know this tape and it is amazing and thank you so much for featuring this- you are the best! take good care
Also, I highly recommend those plastic lidded storage bins instead of boxes, they’re reusable, I use them for holiday decorations and out of season clothes and coats. They also stack really well. I used about 10 for my move but I lay need 3 for regular storage, stacked they only take up 1/4 of a tiny hall closet
Terrific, thanks…great ideas. I buy new boxes and number them and keep a special book with a complete detailed list of what's in each box in case one gets lost, then I know what to replace, especially my books. I've moved 28 times in my life and I've never had a problem with any mover. Thanks again, great video.
You truly are beautiful Stephanie, I'm so glad I found you on UA-cam. You're so pure and I feel like I can trust you. You're basically a hip Mary Poppins (practically perfect in every way)
On UA-cam everyone is beautiful. Not like in the real world where we have to deal with ugly people. Ewww... ugly people! What could ugly people possibly know about moving?
I moved last summer and I did not think of packing a suitcase of essentials... So of course I was going through every box trying to find my tooth brush. These tips were really helpful! Thanks so much!
I'm thinking about moving but I don't know how to move with my grandma and grandpa always pushing me to do different things and plus I have a disease known as Sickle cell animea which makes it hard to do different things let alone move things around the house!!!!!!! But hey, GOD gave me another day to do me so I ain't got nothing to complain about. And I'm kinda glad the man upstairs gave me Sickle cell animea cause now that I have the disease I can do things like go to the Gulfstream Goodwill Transaction to life Academy and hang out with my buddies Willie, Thomas, and Freddy!!!!! My guys for life!!!!!!!!!!
You’re so right about the paper tape. Other tapes doubles one’s energy spent on packing because it takes so much time to find the edge of that damn clear (and expensive) tape - that reqires scissors or a knife to cut. I’m moving and dread it, but as much as I want to move on the cheap, I’m taking your advice and hiring professional movers. Thanks for the helpful vid!
I'm in the middle of moving this weekend and I amazingly followed most of these before seeing this video. I would just add, don't procrastinate on packing. It makes it so much easier if you're not rushing to finish everything in a couple of days.
Don't buy boxes, all stores have boxes they will throw away after they restock at night. Call them and ask if they can save them for u or go in at midnight and yonk them. Also Number your boxes and make a paper list of what's in 1-30, u could even take a picture. Easier to check a list than 30 boxes.
best moving tip I've ever learned- get some moving straps for heavy furniture. A duo using some straps can lift damn near anything. I was so freaked out having to move a couch by myself cause my wife is a little girl like in the video here (lul), was afraid I was going to tear it up. My father in law lent some straps to us and I gave it a whirl with the wife. We lifted that couch like it was 100% cotton. Other times I've had to move furniture either solo, where I'd have to drag it and fuck it up, or with other people, one person always needs to reaffirm their grip making it take 3=5x as long. Huge huge huge help. Never underestimate leverage and teamwork. edit- I think this is common knowledge and wasn't worth mentioning but there are 2 kinds of boxes you should look for. Grocery store boxes, and you can get creative with that. When I worked in a store bakery we were always happy to provide a shitton of boxes to anyone that asked. They get crushed and recycled otherwise so you're hurting absolutely nothing. Second. It's still in stores, but is so handy it needs to be mentioned separately. PRODUCE SECTION BANANA BOXES. These are fantastic for your medium to small items due to the open tops. They're sturdy, and don't require any tape to seal. I will never move without having at least 5 banana boxes on hand.
The small box idea just occurred to me a couple weeks ago, and I bought regular office boxes. Easy to move around and re-usable later for paperwork & lots of other stuff.
I'm hopefully moving soon and these were definitely really handy tips, I've definitely investing in some of that tape! Instead of buying boxes I've been hoarding all the packaging and delivery boxes I get so that I can use those for moving! x
Thanks Stephanie, I hate moving and have moved 5 times in 8 years as a single mum with four kids. Each year I get better but you have certainly covered everything and so easily thanks Stephanie. I move again this week 😬😎🇦🇺
Lots of great ideas! I disagree with the overalls idea though. I do know how easy it is to lose track of your tape or markers, but I think for me it would be better to keep a basket/container in each area that you can put the markers/tape etc in after using each time. I go to the bathroom too often to wear overalls 😬
this is such a great vid!! i'm moving out of halls and into a house for my second year of uni, and i'm putting things into storage for when i go back home (in another country) for hols. great tips!
Hey here's another tip!! You don't need to buy boxes. Whenever I was moving, I went to Walmart at night time when they were unpacking all their boxes and just asked them if I could have some of their empty boxes. Go for the toilet paper aisle or the cereal aisle. You'll score some nice big boxes there!
Number your boxes and keep a separate list of what’s in them, don’t write on the box. Definitely box everything and keep excellent records, make sure they exactly match the movers or you have no claim. My movers stole all items of value I didn’t take myself, please learn from my mistakes.
I wish I had this vid when I moved house! it is SO useful and I agree with EVERYTHING you said here! I love how you demonstrated all the tips too! :) fantastic video!!
Thank you! Smart tips. I never thought of baskets and hampers being a problem as box substitutes because they’re not stackable. Good point. I would’ve done that and regretted it.
I've been subbed to your channel for a long while and I remember watching this video when it came out bc I loved your content, and here I am 7 years later watching this again as I make my first official move from my parents' place as a graduate moving in with their partner to a new town :'-) thanks for everything Stephanie. (definitely gonna hold onto that USE THE BOXES tip bc I was about to just toss everything in reusable shopping bags/totes and then toss those in the trailer lmaoo, the stacking will definitely make a difference)
Thank you for the tips, especially the toilet paper one! I didn't think about that before, but now I'm going to immediately add it to my overnight bag.
Glad I found this video, thank you! My wife and I have moved many times but we are usually disorganized. We are going to use your suggestions, so thank you!
Easy peasy. One step at a time= make a list if you are lost and cross them off as you get them done. It also helps to do one room at a time. Start small: a closet. Clear it out completely. Then clean and if needed paint it and patch any holes. One small room done right is the best 1st step and gives us the confidence to carry on to do the next steps
I am moving soon in like a month and we have a house TONS of stuff and we need to hurry and get that because it's too much to do in just 1 week until moving, and this helped me so much! Tomorrow we are packing our rooms and this week we are on break so it gives us extra time. Although it will be hard because my dad is gone every week for work and doesn't come back until Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Thank you so much for the hacks/tips/tricks whatever you wanna call them lol.
Labeling boxes: maybe too much detail, but I label mine with A-Z, then AA-ZZ, etc. or numbers. Then as I pack, I write everything (pretty much) that's in the box on a list in a notebook. (I transfer the info to my notes app, but you can just leave it on paper.) I guess it slows me up, but I had a situation where our condo assoc told us we had to sell our condos to them (long story), and then it got delayed by TWO YEARS. I had a ton of boxes packed that whole time, and I am so glad I knew which box held which stuff.
i'm moving in two weeks and youtube just suggested me this video, thank you, you are a life saver, i would have never thought of the toilet paper or sponges! :D
Thank you for the tips! Love the idea of wearing overalls, so genius. Just having everything in one spot, on you, would make things so much easier. If I wasn't pregnant, I would totally do this hack.
This was a great video! Stephanie your outfit is so dope! One tip I would add (although it might be common sense) is to move your valuable/expensive jewelry/electronics/goods yourself. One of the first times my family moved, a bunch of my moms jewelry went missing! 😟
As a Walmart employee, we are always glad to give boxes of any size to anyone who needs them! The cardboard bailer is honestly way more frustrating that just giving the boxes away!
And I've always appreciated that! 😉
Dang my boyfriend just bought us boxes from Walmart 🤣
bet
Truth, ex-Walmart employee here. I hated cardboard bailer! And I NEVER made a bail, my husband (who also worked there) was always called to the back room to make bail.
But of crouse they have to caught you with the boxes before you make it to said bailer.
Thx!

or liquor stores!!!!
Agreed! Never EVER buy boxes. Waste of money.
My family uses Wendy's fry boxes when we need them! They're heavy duty, a good size, and for the most part pretty clean. I'll have to ask next time I'm at Walmart though 😉
+Haley C Thank you, never ever thought about Wendy's. I'm packing now moving again 😊
I love moving. The stress takes my mind off of other stresses in life! And also its a great chance to filter through the old things to make room for the new!

That drives me nuts!!!! Thanks for thanking her!!!
@@jenniferstarlight3173 that’s a lot of thanking 😂
@@a1den623 Thanks for pointing that out 😂
Yes! Thank You!
Clicked on this video because this wasn't labelled "hacks" ☺️
I actually kept all my food in the fridge and taped it closed and had it moved to the new place and turned on right away and all my stuff were good , exactly like a cooler.
Literally moving for the first time by myself in a month! Thank you endlessly.
+xoLoveLeti | Cruelty-Free Beauty you go girl, its a very gratifying experience
keira diegel Same im moving in i little less than a month anf im too excited.
How did it go? :)
Also, if you have the time, seize the opportunity to go through and detox all your stuff! Last time I moved to Seattle, I went through my wardrobe and wound up making a couple hundred dollars at buffalo exchange. Takes time though, but then there's less stuff to move!
You forgot a very important one for people who aren’t moving with movers:
If you have especially heavy boxes, GET WORK GLOVES. The kinds with the grips on the palms. It makes it SO MUCH EASIER.
Thanks for that advice. I'll note that
Yes!! I wrote that in my comment. Strange effect= gloves seem to confer amazing super-powers, like a 25% boost in strength
Another tip when using movers KEEP ALL OF YOUR JEWELRY, KEYS AND MONEY ON YOU!!! Move those things yourself!!
Another helpful tip is to make a spreadsheet if you want to get really specific about what is in each box. (Or just to take inventory of what you own.) I label each box with a number and write the destination. For example Box #1 Kitchen, and then in a google spreadsheet list what exactly is in the box, like sponges.

Lauriti yea most of the time tho the store calls that stealing , so you cant jus go and grab boxes
I always go around to the liquor stores and ask for boxes. They’re always happy to get rid of them and even help me load them up most of the time
Exactly! I've moved a gazillion times and never bought a single box, I just get them from stores. Or order them from postal mail store online or locally :)

Thank you SO MUCH! (I didn't move with boxes I tried to use random bags and containers and it wasn't a great idea so YES boxes are IMPORTANT).
Moving halfway across the country (16 hours drive!) in September. Getting ready to start packing now!
You truly are beautiful Stephanie, I'm so glad I found you on UA-cam. You're so pure and I feel like I can trust you. You're basically a hip Mary Poppins (practically perfect in every way)

I moved last summer and I did not think of packing a suitcase of essentials... So of course I was going through every box trying to find my tooth brush. These tips were really helpful! Thanks so much!
Brown tape is at UHaul too! $2!
Its weird but i kinda like these kinds of vids more than the beauty stuff haha 😅
They become so repetitive after a while!

Solid video. Thank you for saying to put everything in boxes. I moved people for 4 years and no one seemed to understand that point.
You did a fantastic job. Great tips. I am going try the tape.
Best moving tips online. Doing my second move today and it's great to re-listen to this clip as a reminder of what to do! Thank-you.
I refer to this video before every move. Thanks so much
THANK YOU! I'm moving house and I hating packing, this makes me feel a little better.
I'm in the middle of moving this weekend and I amazingly followed most of these before seeing this video. I would just add, don't procrastinate on packing. It makes it so much easier if you're not rushing to finish everything in a couple of days.
I'm starting to pack in small sections in my apartment now so when the day comes time to move, everything will be done already
THANK U!!! MOVING AT THE END OF THIS MONTH U JUST SAVED MY LIFE!!!! ❤️
These were awesome tips...some I didn't even think about!! LOVE the tape...hate the clear one with the dispenser!
SO HELPFUL! I'm constantly moving back & forth because of college. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
On labeling boxes:
I write numbers on mine, and contents on a separate sheet of paper. It's a life saver.
Don't buy boxes, all stores have boxes they will throw away after they restock at night. Call them and ask if they can save them for u or go in at midnight and yonk them. Also Number your boxes and make a paper list of what's in 1-30, u could even take a picture. Easier to check a list than 30 boxes.
walmart= tons of boxes
If you don't want to wear overalls you can always put on a kitchen apron that has pockets. I did that last time I moved and it was "clutch"!
That tape looks amazing! I hate regular packing tape and this option looks so much better.
best moving tip I've ever learned- get some moving straps for heavy furniture. A duo using some straps can lift damn near anything. yes, don't buy boxes. another tip...go to your local drugstore,Walmart, or food market...ask and they will gladly give you some for free!
love you steph, you're an amazing youtuber
love the tip of packing everything in on suitcase that you need--then packing everything else without penalty or worry :)! thank you!
Perfect timing for students moving into dorms soon! Thank youu
Thanks Stephanie, I hate moving and have moved 5 times in 8 years as a single mum with four kids. Each year I get better but you have certainly covered everything and so easily thanks Stephanie. I move again this week 😬😎🇦🇺

I adore your glasses

this is such a great vid!! i'm moving out of halls and into a house for my second year of uni, and i'm putting things into storage for when i go back home (in another country) for hols. great tips!
i'm about to move to Australia for uni and found this so useful! thank you Steph!
Excellent video! I love the paper tape idea & the yelp recommendation for movers! Plastic tape is worthless, you are right!
Checked my subscription box while procrastinating my massive packing day today! Insane timing, thank you!
I'm moving in August and this was superhelpful, thanks!!
Yeah, I'd love more talk videos from you!
All of your tips are excellent, and thank you! Some of those I had figured out from prior moves, but some were brand new!
So extremely helpful! Thank you!!!! 💖💖 I'm moving to my university dorm in 5 weeks. As always looking BEAUTIFUL!
Hey here's another tip!! You don't need to buy boxes. Whenever I was moving, I went to Walmart at night time when they were unpacking all their boxes and just asked them if I could have some of their empty boxes. Diedre Lambert do you mean write down EVERYTHING in there ? Like if you have 7 makeup brushes , to write that down ?
I love these organizational videos! So helpful!
I wish I had this vid when I moved house! it is SO useful and I agree with EVERYTHING you said here! I love how you demonstrated all the tips too! :) fantastic video!!
Packing tape idea was sooo helpful!❤❤❤
Thank you! Smart tips. I never thought of baskets and hampers being a problem as box substitutes because they’re not stackable. Good point. I would’ve done that and regretted it.
This is so helpful. Thank you for making this! I'm moving to a new state& I will be using these tips
Ive found its best to start sorting / packing early . I used to leave things to the last few days . Oh no . Never again . What a nightmare .lol
The texture of your house is very interesting ! What is the brand of your glasses btw ? They look really cool
Thank you for the tips, especially the toilet paper one! I didn't think about that before, but now I'm going to immediately add it to my overnight bag.
I'm moving from Dublin, Ireland to Perth, Australia and I have a pretty big house so this helps sooooo much 😂😂👌🏾
How did it go, and which companies did you use? How do you like Perth?
Glad I found this video, thank you! My wife and I have moved many times but we are usually disorganized. We are going to use your suggestions, so thank you!
Tx, 😘 Im packaging just today and didnt know how and where to start 😮 now it will be much easyer
Easy peasy. One step at a time= make a list if you are lost and cross them off as you get them done. It also helps to do one room at a time. Start small: a closet. Clear it out completely. Then clean and if needed paint it and patch any holes. One small room done right is the best 1st step and gives us the confidence to carry on to do the next steps
moving to the bay from the east coast in about a week and these tips high key helped !
In the process of moving right now. This was right on time!
Thank you for giving me an excuse to take a break 🥵 your advice was helpful, especially that tape!!
Im moving soon. Thank you! Very great tips!
this is actually super helpful because I'm getting to start packing for the summer and college
i'm moving in two weeks and youtube just suggested me this video, thank you, you are a life saver, i would have never thought of the toilet paper or sponges! :D
Luvd itt! I don't like videos that make me feel brain dead, yours are always sharp af 💖
Thank you for the tips! Love the idea of wearing overalls, so genius. Just having everything in one spot, on you, would make things so much easier. If I wasn't pregnant, I would totally do this hack.
These were actually some really great tips, a few things you would never think of until the day of lol
Love the BROWN TAPE tip!
Great tips on moving! Can't wait for a tour when you're done packing!
excellent video. a lot of non obvious tips like the overalls. great work.
Just found this-Thank You!!! The tips on clothing and boots was an eye opener-again thank you.
moving away for uni at the end of summer, this vid was so helpful!
Very useful tips for moving and it's also a great opportunity to reduce your belongings.
This was a great video! Stephanie your outfit is so dope! One tip I would add (although it might be common sense) is to move your valuable/expensive jewelry/electronics/goods yourself. One of the first times my family moved, a bunch of my moms jewelry went missing! 😟
bout to move in 3 days im so excited its going to be an amazing new chapter
