One of the most valuable ideas I have ever heard in a diet program (it was Weight Watchers in 1975) was HOW to eat liver if you cannot eat it the traditional way of cooking it and consuming it by putting it in your mouth and chewing and swallowing it. Instead cook liver in a moderate way (pan fry it gently, or, bake it gently--that way it stays tender and more nutritious). Let the cooked liver cool, so that you can handle it comfortably. Then cut the cooked pieces up into pill sized pieces--the size of a magnesium pill for example. Then spread the cut up pieces on a baking sheet that has sides. Then pop the pan into the freezer. When the pieces are frozen put them into freezer bags. Back in the freezer goes the cooked liver now in a bag. Consume your required weekly amount of liver with a glass of water--like swallowing a large pill.

Dice up bacon and liver, and saute for 1/2 an hour until the water has evaporated. Don't fry it because it gets tough. Add spices while it is cooking: garlic, pepper, salt, onions, chili powder, Experiment a bit, most people seem to think you have to eat liver like a slice of bacon.

Near the end of the video Dr. Cywes again repeats the question, "How did we ever exist as a species" (without a vitamin store nearby)? Some other "experts" I follow, like Dr. William Davis, explain that we need magnesium supplementation because the mineral content that ancient predecessors readily obtained from natural drinking water is not present in the sort of "industrial" treated water we drink today. With respect to vitamin D, Dr. Cywes lives in Florida and can probably get enough sunshine to provide him with a reasonably good vitamin D3 level. Many people, like me, live in colder areas so I believe that taking vitamin D3 is useful in many cases. Dr. Davis advocates iodine supplementation (not much, say 200 mcg/day) to support the thyroid. I believe that has merit for many people. I agree, however, with Dr. Cywes that we are generally oversold on the need for supplements.

I take vitamin d3 and k2. But here in the UK at this time of year we are lucky to see the sun and currently sunset is 15 50hours. I do get my Vitamin d checked and although normal ( due to supplementation) it tends to be on the low side of normal. As I'm a 65years old female I am concerned about the increased risk of fractures. I don't take Calcium as a friend who is a frailty consultant says I can get adequate calcium from my diet. That's my sum total of supplements. Going Keto over 2years ago has improved my blood work enormously.

    • @mikafoxx2717

If you're worried about fractures, the only guaranteed way to oversee bone density is strength training.
You body is smart, and if the muscles aren't strong, the bones won't be either. Usually the same protien breakdown also breaks down bone. Eat plenty of protein and put some (slow & gentle) stress on those muscles, bones, and joints, and they'll grow and strengthen in response.

I do the same. I have a diagnosis of osteopenia. I hope you have had a dexa scan - necessary to determine bone density. It’s at least a benchmark of where you are right now. Mika is right, strength training is vital to bone health. I’m trying to incorporate it now. Carnivore for 1-1/2 years now, so hoping I see improvement with that too.

I am guilty of reacting to the "health issue of the day" and adding a supplement to address that issue. My integrative cardiologist would also agree with you which is important to me. Much thanks for what you do.

I'm 66 and have been on a keto diet (Dr. Berg) since 2017 and was recently diagnosed hypothyroid. I thought the reason I was cold all the time was because I was on keto! My physician's assistant, seeing I prefer to address things without medication, suggested some new supplements, so I'm taking Vitamin C, zinc, adrenal cortex, B12, a whole B complex, and half a dozen others. I just had my 3-month blood test checkup; I see her next Thursday for the results. I don't want to take thyroid hormones. I'm also using red light therapy, shining that on my face and neck every morning. I'm located in the Pacific Northwest, and today, a typical day, was in the 30s and foggy & gray all day. I'm thrilled to be able to give myself the benefits of sunlight on a day like today. I also feel great! I have actual energy! I have a gym membership now and actually have enough energy after work to go to the gym several times a week. I'm no longer frozen all the time! I've started eating more meat.

I suffered from severe Rheumatoid Arthritis for 30+ years. One day I heard of a crazy doctor from Brazil who believed all auto immune health problems stem from a Vitamin D3 resistance. So following his protocol I learned how much Vitamin D3 to take as well as Vitamin K2 MK7 in order to prevent hypercalcemia. Well this is my third year free of any Rheumatoid arthritis flares. The disease appears to have gone into remission. Oh and as a side benefit, I truly believe this was due to the leading of the Holy Spirit. This all happened just before Covid struck. So the worst I got was a minor fever for about ten days! Thank You Jesus ! So in certain circumstances the good Dr is wrong. Many of these modern supplements are just as powerful and in fact helpful as modern medicines drugs !

D is not a vitamin but a pro-hormone. LDL is essential in the synthesis of pro-hormone D. In othervwords, consuming saturated fat is key. You do not need synthetic supplements which have become as addictive and toxic as drugs.

@michaelstrunk4609, my observations are the same. I have seen many anecdotes of vegan AND junk food dieters that take as much as 10000 units of D3, k2 daily that still have vit D levels below 30. You need the saturated fat...or something, in animal foods. We can't outsmart nature.

About supplements though it could be argued that soils nutrients depletion may cause meats and vegetables to be deficient in minerals and vitamins ( we don’t all live on those plains in Africa far from any GNC store ; a lot of us live in industrialized countries where agriculture has been intensive for decades or more and soils not so fertile anymore ) so isn’t there some ground for at least some form of supplementation ?
Take vitamin C for instance , isn’t it essential in the way collagen metabolizes and isn’t collagen the most predominant protein needed to build tissues ? Some people may need more of it especially people who suffer from genetic conditions affecting connective tissues ( seldom diagnosed but not so uncommon either )
It all depends on how healthy you are to start with doesn’t it ? Genetics are as important as environmental causes and diet for some of us .
Reflecting on this video that I nonetheless appreciate . Thank you .

Here's something I think is worth considering. We also didn't have in the past all the elements were up against in today's modern era like pfbs, air pollutants, blue light, emulsifiers, seed oils, unnatural stress, etc. the list goes on forever. Maybe this bears some rationale for taking some supplements at a minimum?
I have to agree with you on supplementing for deficiency but that relies on the test that's used and getting something all inclusive is unheard of by common day people, so I have to really ask are we considering every factor and I believe in studies it's sometimes hard to control for every variable and what we call fairly precise can still be a football field or more away theoretically. Any thoughts?
Definitely love your view on the overun micros from demand. That makes sense to me. Love the video and have been sharing. Continue on with making great videos to watch and for us to consider the valuable perspectives inside 💠

Great video, thank you. I just don't agree at all that anyone other than someone who works in the sun all day, no sunblock, gets enough Vit D. We didn't start out having homes with all the conveniences and jobs that keep us inside all day. The recommended levels were established to prevent Rickets disease. You should be about 50 ng/ml or 150 nmol/L. The average person needs about 5k iu a day, more if you're overweight to reach those levels. Vit K2-mk7 approx 100mg a day (or eat fermented foods, Natto is best) is also important to make sure calcium is distributed to bones and teeth instead of building up in blood vessels. Fermented foods (not pickled, no vinegar is used) also has many other natural health benefits, so I would recommend you go that route. I've been doing tons of research the last 4 years, but please don't just take my word for it, do your own research.

From what I understand now of the need for thiamine to turn our food into energy, I was not taking in enough food with thiamine in high doses. Now have chronic fatigue and fighting it with B1 supplements re Elliot Overton - youtube. I also take co-q10 because I thought that might help. The list to fight long covid is crazy long, but I found the big benefit was Carnivore, cutting out oxalates, Best of health to you.
