    Several people I know attempted keto/carnivore after seeing me lose 70 lbs in 4 months. The biggest mistake I saw that resulted in their failure was they got all excited about their "keto" recipes for "keto" pizza and "keto" cupcakes and "keto" fried chicken. Every single person I know who tried to hang on to their old eating habits with these stupid keto recipes failed miserably.

      Yes. 4 years for me of losing 100 lbs & keeping it off. Many have tried to follow & failed. Most can't make it over that 1st week of breaking the addiction. So much of it is mindset.

      @Vlad I think you'll have a hard time sticking with the keto lifestyle long term and sustaining your weight loss.

    • @silvergirl7810
      @silvergirl7810 4 роки тому +25

      Vlad I think you’re right- once you’re ‘really’ on the keto diet doing it right -you don’t want those crutch keto foods that are being promoted- and I do think there is a place for them at the beginning when you’re training yourself- some people need them and it’s better than falling off altogether as long as you’re understanding what you’re doing. Your goal should be shooting for the cleanest keto and intermittent fasting that you can live with and eventually your body falls into that without ever missing the other things- ever. But because we still live in America with everyone else eating the standard American diet and there are still birthday parties and celebrations going on around us- there’s a mentality that doesn’t change over night and to think it will is just not being honest or realistic. Therefore, bringing our thoughts inline as this doctor is saying, rewiring ourselves AS we are retraining our bodies to adapt to the new way of eating and the new lifestyle that will be one I can live with- comes with a few down moments that helps to have a keto cupcake once in a blue moon. And yes, you will stay on it.

      Amanda Carlson so true. When I’m hungry the only thing I crave is a good tender juicy medium rare steak with pink salt. I still enjoy all other animal foods, but nothing calms my hunger (a real and legit one cuz I do 22/2 OMAD mostly recently) down like a good solid steak... and once I’m full, I’m done eating like DONE and not wanting to touch even one more bite of that steak if I happened to have any leftover. No more breakfasts of egg, bacon, potatoes, & biscuits, all of it smothered in country gravy. Two rashers of bacon & an egg completely satisfy me. And breakfast might be at 8am or maybe noon. I’m nearly 80, and it’s difficult to change a lifetime of habits. I still have mom’s voice in my head saying “you’re not leaving this house until you have a good breakfast.” I’m learning to listen to my body. And I feel great. After beginning to eat carnivore I realised how much I really enjoyed preparing and eating meats. The taste of things roasted, broths, the taste of fat rather than sugar which eventually becomes what you crave. I also realised how much I really never liked or needed vegetables and that the only reason I ever put them on the plate is a mix of social pressure and ‘because’ from people like your mum and teachers. Now I eat only carnivore and ever anxiety, worry, stress and depression I have felt for 20 years simply isn’t there anymore. When I add vegetables I don’t enjoy them, and I get bloated, or constipated, or just a feeling of lethargy and lack of drive.

      I "burn" ("burnt ends" style) the fatty parts of my steaks separate from the lean parts I cook rare-medium-rare. That fat tastes sweeter than sugar to me. Almost makes me want to eat nothing but that kind of fat - that's how good it tastes.
      ---
      PS there are a few vegetables/fruits I still love and eat but they are only in season for a short time --
      "homegrown ripe" sweet corn and tomatoes (and occasional watermelon).
      Only place I can get these suitably ripe are at farmer's markets and even then have to be choosey because of some being picked too early or not having been grown in good soil.

      Yeah I love the simplicity of this diet combined with intermediate fasting and the metabolic flexibility that comes with it. The individual can decide for them self how far they want to take it.
      In my case, I am more of an obsessed inflammation fanatic, who wants to remove all unnecessary inflammatory foods and lifestyles in my life and diet to increase longevity to the extreme (as much as possible.) Because in the end it is inflammation that causes all of the diseases and changes in the body as we grow up and evolve and die, it is all controlled by inflammation as a signaling factor. My goal is to control it and direct it to a direction that optimizes longevity, vitality, and health.
      And keto vegan/Mediterranian keto is the most anti-inflammatory foods known to man thus far.
      So that essentially means going for that kind of keto while focusing on fasting, exercise, and meditation with the strategic intake of carbs like at the end of an intensive workout and fasting period to optimize muscle growth and recovery with cold showers. Essentially I am focusing to boost human growth hormones and BDNF, by using all the tools/strategies "in the book" that I can find.

So the deepdivers techniques, Wim Hof, and biking/walking with oxygenmasks or breathwork do wonders for reducing inflammation.
      I myself had severe skin issues at one time, on my hands, went with it 6 months and almost lost my job. Doctors gave cortisone, which did nothing. Did a modified form of intense breathwork +10 hours that week, completely healed. (Vitamin A was the last addition that truly freed me from this horrible experience). 6 months! But when I do this I’m not eating simple sugars and deserts. I’ll eat potatoes and rice and beans... but not an all you can eat buffet level. Even when I do this and go to the gym later the next morning I’m still usually still in ketosis. If I’m not in ketosis that morning than I will be be the next morning.
      If I were to eat sugary refined carbs then I’ll start craving them again. They are addictive.

      Most of those so-called experts are in their 20s maybe 30s. Weight loss at that age is very easy. There are a few carnivore UA-camers who have metabolic disorders and despite their great losses of weight are still obese. This demonstrates how hard it is to get rid of all the fat for many of us.

    I've been on Carnivore Diet for a month and I am rarely hungry now. I eat when I am, but I only eat a fraction of what I did before. I've lost 30 pounds and my pain is almost gone. (I have MS and had constant excruciating pain.). The weight loss is great, but the pain being almost nonexistent and being able to move much easier is the catalyst that is keeping me going. I barely ate yesterday bc I wasn't hungry and was busy all day. At 2am I woke up and was "starving". 😂 I got a piece of cold chicken out of the fridge and stood in the kitchen eating it like a thief.

    I have gradually progressed from paleo to ketogenic to ketovore to carnivore. The switch to carnivore was so effortless, I expected carb cravings and such but had very very little of that. The only problem I did have was some bowel problems and after a month that seems to be resolving slowly. It is very difficult to give up the macros/calories counting after so long on keto. I am learning to listen to my hunger signals but they are very irregular and unpredictable which makes it difficult to plan my day. Sometimes I do eat 3 meals a day but other days only one meal. There is so much advice out there it is hard to know what to do. Currently I have people telling me to only eat beef but I enjoy other meats immensely. In the last 3 days I've had beef steaks, pork belly, chicken thighs, steelhead trout, oysters, shrimp and eggs. I feel great. Why should I only eat beef?

    Hi Dr. Cywes! This is the first time I've seen one of your videos. Very nice! I hit the like button.
    I'm a carnivore. I've been eating carnivorously for almost 2 years now. I've lost 60 lbs.

    I distinguish a difference between full and fed. I describe full, as when my stomach has reached capacity, yet I'm still hungry. And fed is when I've have the feeling of eating enough but my stomach is not at capacity. Before, I starting eating carnivorously, I had always felt full without feeling fed. I've never felt fed. Now that I eat carnivorously, I feel fed before feeling full. At the fed feeling, I push away my plate. What is left on my plate is food for another day.
    I call breakfast, to break your fast, as the first meal you eat after you have slept. If the first time you eat is at 4:30 pm, then you had breakfast at 4:30 in the afternoon.
    I've learned that what I eat for breakfast, whenever it is, will dictate the stability of my hunger and thirst for the rest of the day. A healthy, carbohydrate free, breakfast, (sunny side eggs fried in tallow or butter with a glass of water) keeps my hunger and thrust stable for the day. A poor breakfast, (cereal, oatmeal porridge, or toast with orange juice) messes up my hunger and thirst for the rest of the day. Fasting, that is, a good night’s sleep, resets this imbalance caused by a poor yesterday’s breakfast.
    The just of your presentation is that we are creatures of habit. And we still use the habits of how we ate before we learned that we are carnivores. We have to get more in tune with when our body’s is asking for food rather than when our culture is telling us to eat. I do not fast by the clock. If I’m not hungry, I do not eat; if I am hungry, I’ll eat.
    My mother cites a comment made by and aborigine of North America describing a man of European decent. “How strange! The white man needs a machine on his wrist to tell him when he is hungry.”
    Again, thank you for your enlightening insight.

Then, this video! Doctor, thank you for reaffirming I'm following the right path. I have been doing what you're recommending here and the results are spectacular. I've been doing it without couching and because it just feels right. I've lost weight, I'm out of danger of type 2 diabetes, my liver, kidney and brain health is better. I no longer need a C pap machine to help me sleep and I have a clarity of metal processing I've not had in decades! Yet, my doctor's PA tells me I'm making a mistake and to get off Keto. If this is the wrong way to feel I surely do not want to feel "right". Thank you!

    When you become carnivore, you soon learn that your BODY will decide when you should eat. I eat only breakfast (at about 10 am!) and supper at around 8 at night. That's it. If you "level off" when trying to lose weight, add more fat and eat internal organs. I eat heart, liver and tongue at least twice a week and I polish off around 8 kilos (around 17 and a half pounds) of animal (mainly beef) fat, cooked with my meat, per month. I also have three eggs every day, cooked in fat with cheddar cheese every other day and a bit of bacon - maybe a half pound per month. I have been eating this way for over four years now and at age 71, I take no medications for anything, simply because I have no conditions that require the intervention of medications.
    You should listen to your body not only to tell you WHEN to eat, but WHAT to eat. It will almost immediately cause indigestion, cramps, stomach upsets, bloat, excess gas and a host of other symptoms (that most people think are normal!) when you eat foods that do not agree with it. Find what these food are and keep them out of your mouth.
    You CANNOT overeat as a carnivore, if you are getting enough fat. Your brain is primed to tell you to stop when you have enough fat in your system. I NEVER dish up more than I can eat because I know exactly how much my body and brain need.
    My wife is still omnivore, so she adds her veggies and carbs to her plate. Mine contains only meat and fried fat. As she has never liked the taste of eggs, my wife only consumes them in her baked confections. I may have a taste - about a teaspoon - of her confections or fruits from our garden, but no more than that: they taste weird now, so I don't crave them.
    Your body knows what is good for you and each of our regimens is as unique as our faces and fingerprints: there is no "one size fits all" diet: it's a case of "every man for himself".

    • @keithtaylor3347
      @keithtaylor3347 4 роки тому +2

      @Jerry Grauert I do not only NOT require veg or fruit: my body rebels when I eat them, so I am also not on a keto diet: I eat ONLY animal products, poultry, eggs, cheese and a bit of fish now and then. As I said in my original post, I eat a lot of fat with ALL my meals. I am fortunate in that I have access to venison, at about a quarter of the price of beef, lamb or pork. The venison is ALWAYS available as farmers shoot and kill a variety of problem animals which are legal to hunt out-of-season.

      Cholesterol is part of the body's repair system, but most doctors won't tell you this: they do NOT want your body to be able to repair itself, as that would take a very large chunk of money out of their pockets.

    • @keithtaylor3347
      @keithtaylor3347 4 роки тому +1

      @Jerry Grauert The veg is almost certainly the cause of the splatters: your body is trying to get rid of what it thinks is detrimental as quickly as possible. The solid logs are products of the meat and fat input.
      I have discovered that I don't have to go to the toilet as often as I did when I ate plants. In fact, I sometimes only go only once in three days, because my body is wringing every last bit of nutrient out of the food. Then I drop one, single, solid "bomb" and that's it. Using paper to wipe up is a waste of time and money, as there is no mess.

    I am SO grateful for this! I am currently carnivore and fill up on fatty meat at relatively low calorie load each day, but I honestly am not hungry and do not want to eat more. I have plenty of "fat on the land" of my body, so I figure that's what's happening. But I've been so confused by the eat more messages on many carnivore channels, and this video resonates much more deeply with my personal experience. THANK YOU!

      Right??? I can eat 6 to 8 oz of meat and be good for the day. If I were to track calories I most assuredly would be under 1000. You hear eat until comfortably stuffed. Then you see these “what I eat in a day” videos. I cannot fathom how they get all that down. I have been told I am not getting enough calories so I have been eating 3 times a day. I am stuffed. It doesn’t feel right to eat so much. When I ate carbs, I could easily plow through a large pizza. Finally I have an answer to how much I should eat in a day.

      I went through different waves of eating and just let my body do it’s thing. If I was hungry I ate but I tried to shave 15 mins off here and there to stretch the time out before eating- or I’d ask myself if I wanted to eat eggs (on keto) and if I couldn’t stomach them then I wasn’t really hungry- it was always my “true” hunger test. At the beginning I actually gained weight and was so mad reading all these testimonials of people losing tons of weight off the bat- but I stuck with it- I came to find out my body is an asshole- it took 3 months before it kicked in and so I’m very insulin resistant. But when I did, it’s very easy not to be hungry and I practice stretching the time out between meals. If I get hungry I drink water with lemon, pink salt and a little apple cider vinegar- then wait longer. I’ve gotten better and better. It’s just retraining yourself from years of eating a different way- but don’t fight your body- like the doctor said- don’t ever starve yourself- your body will automatically do this and it’s actually a calming feeling.

      @@silvergirl7810 If keto isn't working for you, go full carnivore, but be sure to eat liver, heart, tongue and a lot of fat. The fat keeps you satiated for a very long time. For snacks, if you MUST have them, make some biltong www.mykitchen.co.za/favourites/home-made-biltong/ which you can eat with or without a handful of greaves (the solids left over from rendering suet or lard) with a little salt. That will keep you going for a long while!

    I thought this was going to be an anti-keto video but this is actually what I discovered on my own. I was losing a pound a day doing OMAD keto but after a few months I had to switch to eating once every 48 hours. Intermittent fasting is the only way to do keto.

    I have been doing this for 5 months, yes this is "how" I do keto. 5 months ago blood pressure 230/120 on 3 types of pills. Now 120/88 on 2 types of pills, lost 21 lbs, feet not swelling up anymore, joints dont hurt. This is also while waiting for hernia surgery, and so NO exercise activity. Totally sedentary. Amen this strategy described works!

    Your title is misleading. You should change it. Reading your title gives me the idea that you are against Keto. I listened to you only so I could give you crap about being against Keto but found I agree with everything you've said and it jibes with what I've heard from other doctors. I've been on the Keto way of eating and intermittent fasting for a little over a year. I'm on Keto about half the week and carnivore the other half. I never eat before noon-3:00 pm. I also only count total carbs.
