The whole” live at Tilburg” video is off the charts...amazing. Porcupine Tree is in a league of their own. Such a great ensemble of musicians. It’s a crying shame their not in the studio these days creating more of this magic. Great reaction!
Finally someone in my family gets Porcupine Tree. Your reactions and explanations of the band could not have been better spoken. P T hits you when you least expect it. Happy 4th Kel n Rich ! You two and Porcupine Tree are number one!
in my 18 years now listening to Porcupine Tree I've seen them live only 3 times, the concerts were the best ever, right up with the King Crimson concert I visited in 2015... and a plus, Gavin Harrison is one of the King Crimson drummers :) Too bad Porcupine Tree broke up (or just isn't active anymore) since "The Incident". But I remember Steven Wilson saying that Porcupine Tree is dead. by the way: the first Porcupine Tree song I've ever listened to was "Stranger By The Minute" from the "Stupid Dream" Album. That's what got me started. It was a different era of Porcupine Tree where Chris Maitland was still on the drums (he's fantastic too!!). But the albums Stupid Dream (1999) and Lightbulb Sun (2000) from that era are still my favourite albums from PT. Also their Compilation "Recordings" from 2001. When Gavin Harrison took over the drums in 2002 for the "in absentia" album their sound changed, which is not bad, it was just a new era beginning which brought us in absentia, Deadwing, FOABP, The Incident. I think you can say that PT had three different eras. 1989 to 1994 where SW essentially was alone and it was more electronical and ambient music (which changed with "The Sky Moves Sideways" in 1994 when the other guys joined). Then the following albums Signify, Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun. Tracks like "Russia On Ice", "Don't Hate Me", "Last Chance To Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled", "Even Less", "Hatesong" are unforgotten for me. I listened to these albums hundreds of times, I still am.. just yesterday I listened to Recordings, Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream :D And lastly the era with Gavin Harrison on drums from 2002 to end. You should react to a whole album. Maybe react to "Warszawa", a live album where they played a live radio concert on polish radio in 2001. It's awesome.
You guys ROCK! Thanks for doing these videos! (Please do more)! :D I've seen Steven Wilson & numerous of his groups LIVE, (& VERY up close), 7 times!! He is a GENIUS!!!
I discovered Porcupime Tree and Isis one summer 15 yrs or so ago and floated around the pool listening pretty much every day. Needless to say I got a killer tan, also a blown mind, that summer! Haha.
Happy July 4th! I thoroughly love that you two love Porcupine Tree. I do too, but haven't yet heard but perhaps half their long inventory of tracks. (Frank Marino suggested that I try them when he and I spoke at one of his gigs here in 2007.) And thanks for turning us on to Steve Wilson's other works also!
Back in the mid to late eighties, Steven Wilson was playing keyboards for a time with a UK band called 'Blazing Apostles' (there are one or two videos on YT from the Mean Fiddler gig in Harlesden, London, but you only get a short glimpse of him, left side of screen) . I was his roadie/tech during that time. He was super talented. Enjoying your videos btw (the orchestral Whiter Shade of Pale video blew me away!)
@Kel-n-Rich you know my past connection with PT. As far as I'm aware, Steven has no real interest in reforming the band although he hasn't completely ruled out making a new album somewhere down the line. He's quite happy going solo atm. (Big Steve)
After listening to you for a few days, I'm blown away by a couple things. You (Rich) seem to have the EXACT same taste in music I do. I discovered Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson about ten years ago and they are my favorite to this day. Steven Wilson was my best concert experience to this day (saw him twice). I grew up on Metallica, Pink Floyd, Tool. As I go through your catalog, I keep wanting to request something and you've already done so many that I wanted to suggest! So I'm gonna request one of my favorite Steven Wilson songs that I don't think you've done.. Steven Wilson - Index. Great video also. It's pretty dark and little different style for him. Also, I know how Kel introduced you to Type O Negative and I'll suggest another cover by them - Summer Breeze (Set Me on Fire). I hope you keep going down the Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson rabbit hole..it's very deep and very wide. Good god there is so much.
I love you guys, you've reacted to my favorite bands, and PT is one, Alter bridge too. I recommend you to react to Half-light (live) by PT. I know you enjoy this one. Thanks again.
should check out opeths new single Heart in Hand you will hear steve wilsons influence. I think you both will really enjoy it. Steve Wilson has done alot of work with opeth over the last 8-10 years.
Great tune! Thank you, I'd have never heard that band were it not for ur channel. However, Rich's statement abt the keyboards is slightly hyperbolic lol lest we forget keyboards from bands like Rush (Getty Lee) Yes (Rick Wakeman, Geoff Downs, Tony Kaye) and Nightwish (Tuomas Holopainen) to name just a few.
Keyboardists like Geddy Lee and Richard Barbieri are very different breed that focus more on creating epic soundscapes than playing many notes. Whereas Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson and Jordan Rudess are technical virtuosos. So not saying one type is better than the other cause they're different types of keyboardists so no need to compare...
you forgot "Patrick Moraz" when you mentioned the YES keyboardists. He played the keyboards on the album "Relayer" and he did a fu**in amazing job there. :)
@@Kel.N.RichReactions Don't know. I've not listened to that LP for long. Perhaps do I prefer the studio version? It's not always the case, as Steven Wilson is always perfect live. I've seen Steve live so often, but was disapointed on the last 3 show, the sound level is just outrageous far too loud ;-)
@@franckbizouard3357 Saw Steven Wilson last year and I completely agree, was just far too loud. Being a drummer, I was looking forward to hearing Craig Blundell's stunning kit. Unfortunately we couldn't hear anything part from the snare.
Unfortunately you might never get a chance to see them live. Steven Wilson doesn't seem to have any interest in getting the band back together. Their last tour was in 2010 and from the sound of it there may never be another.
@@Kel.N.RichReactions Yeah must have just been a Steven Wilson solo gig. That would still be an amazing show for sure! I would love to see PT some day, never knew about them until they were already on hiatus. If they ever do a reunion tour I'm sure it'll sell out pretty quick!
@@PHLCoffeeSnob yes. and when they play Porcupine Tree stuff the drummer from the "Steven Wilson" band (Craig Blundell) can't really keep up with the stuff Gavin Harrison played. I just heard "The Sound Of Muzak" from Steven's "Home Invasion" live album. Craig Blundell is a fantastic drummer, no doubt, he has to be when he plays with Steven, but Gavin is just another league. In this song it sounds like Craig was a bit overchallenged.
Steven Wilson is without question one of the most brilliant minds in music.
Porcupine Tree takes people places they never thought possible.
CEMETARY GATES I’ve seen him live twice. Both times were brilliant.
Gavin Harrison is a wizard on the kit. Just mind-blowing!
I love Porcupine Tree, as well as Steven Wilson’s solo work. He is, in my opinion, a rare musical genius.
Chris D he’s the new Gabriel imho.

Gavin Harrison is a Monster in Drums🤗😊
Mas Gavin
Menos Portnoy!
16 years to listening P.T over and over again. I still listen to them today :-D ... not kidding !
The Pineapple Thief have a similar prog-rock vibe like Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson. Peace from Manchester UK KnR!!
Thank you! I'm surprised they haven't posted a reaction video yet
Thanks for the info!
Good recommendation, but also very related since Gavin Harrison - the drummer of Porcupine Tree - plays in Pineapple Thief now.
@@Kipex One of the reasons PT and TPT are so awesome to listen to :D
I'm also in Manchester UK, love KnRs reactions

Love PT great reaction.🎧👍
It was RIVERSIDE that was in Florida in May....PT is no more, but Steven still performs PT songs in concert.😁
I TOLD THEM THAT ALSO
I finally saw them in Portland ( their first time in the Pacific Northwest) It was a great show. I can't wait to see them again.

Steven's roadie! Nice!!!!!
Re: WSOPale Orch. I am still smiling from it. Good heavens. So good. Rich
Thank you for the reaction. Please check out "Time Flies" and "Buying New Soul" from Porcupine Tree. Patiently waiting for more PT/SW reactions.
hey friends, no one has made a reaction to Porcupine Tree's song "Shemovedon" which is really incredible, ultra feeling choirs, greetings from Chile
Gavin just about gives Danny Carey a run for his money on this one. I never realized how good he was until I saw/heard this.
Trust me Gavin is better.
gonna put in a Porcupine Tree request because of this.

Steve Wilson Happy Returns
Now that is some deep cut
They don't exist anymore, but Steven Wilson plays some PT tunes on tour (and has a great band).
on every PT video people always compliment Steven and Gavin. I really think Richard and Colin deserve more attention.

Good choice!
Gavin Harrison is THE BEAST
In the middle bridge during Steven's solo, on the drum kit Gavin Harrison is actually playing two different time signatures at once....

It sells fine. AND Wilson has actually had some commercial success.
How can yall like metalica more they had one good album
