That album has two other incredible power ballads, 'In A Darkened Room' and 'Wasted Time'. 'Slave To The Grind' is legitimately one of the greatest hard rock/metal albums of all time. Sebastian's voice is almost supernatural.
@Ghost I remember not liking 'Subhuman Race' when it came out because I wanted 'SLAVE... Pt.2' But listening to it years later I think it's a really strong album, despite it sounding a bit too 'grunge'.
I absolutely agree with you 100%. Slave To The Grind is one of the best metal albums ever produced and those 3 songs you named, are my favorite off the album.
The album Slave to the grind is a masterpiece and almost never talked about. Sebastian Bach is one of the best singers in rock history.Another singer that is totally set aside is Jeff Scott Soto from the band Talisman. Great reaction 👍👍👍
Andrew Baumgartner forgot to mention that☺️ But you’re right,he has been in some big name bands and projects. He is doing fine on his own but deserves more.👍🤘
Absolutely agree that Slave is a masterpiece. I personally felt they just kept getting better the more the original lineup played together. To me it was like the 1st album was more about getting their "pop-ier" material out of the way early on. Even tho its definitely good, its not a fully true representation of them. Then with Slave it was all about "ok, now this is what Skid Row can really do". And Subhuman Race just continued that process to me.
This song.... oh my God this song. Sebastian Bach is an amazing vocalist you shou try wasted time, his vocals are just well they take me there. And he's very easy on the eyes too❤
Dicksmash McIroncock, I don’t think you know what “WOOSH” means. You are the one that messed up ( even after you edited your comment) and still got it wrong, loser!
@@MRCANTGETANAME "WOOSH" is an expession used to say that a joke went over somebody's head. My comment was a play on words, replacing "Ricky" with "Rich he". It was a joke directed to RICH and Kel. It went over your head and now you're acting like a douche bag.
Even though Skid Row came out in the late 80’s they stood out from all the other bands. With their second album they REALLY stood apart from everything else out there by combining more heavy guitar riffs to the melodic song structures with their unique aggressive approach. If Grunge didn’t take over bands like Skid Row would have dominated along with the more trashy street ready rock like G n’R.
I know you say you aren't about analyzing the lyrics but for me the lyrics are what makes this song. Sebastian's voice is just icing on the cake for this one. Just the same, thank you for reacting to it. I wish more people knew about this song and that album in general.
Skid Row is one of my favorite bands and especially with Sebastian Bach as their singer. This is one of my favorite songs by them, and there are a lot other great ones like Wasted Time, Youth Gone Wild, In A Darkened Room, 18 and Life, I Remember You, Into Another and many, many more. By the way, I'm piscis too! I'm glad you guys did this song as your first.
Hope you two are well during the shutdown. I didn't get the alert you were doing this. One if my favorite songs. Wow, this whole album is killer. Everything they did was killer. You two are jewels.. I'm shocked Rich hadn't heard this. Thanks for sharing and being such nice folks. You guys rock..
Your faces said it all, while listening. His voice was simply unmatched back then. Try Wasted Time if you haven't yet. That track and QJ were my two favorites from Slave to the Grind.
#PainInTheMemories I took a friend to his first concert back in '88. Drove from Portland up to the Tacoma Dome. Skid Row was supporting this album, opening for the Guns and Roses, Use Your Illusion Tour. The Skids blew G-n-R away!!!
Skid Row - Slave to the Grind Tesla - Great Radio Controversy Two amazing albums lost in the grunge avalanche that still hold up today as some of the greatest rock records ever
Nice mention of Tesla. The Way it is, off of The Great Radio Controversy is one of their most underrated songs. I also loved Hang Tough. I didn’t mention Love Song, since everyone knows that one, but one thing I can say about the version on that cd is that the acoustic intro isn’t cut out like in the radio edit everyone heard, and that really makes the song. I hate any version of that song without it.
Great reaction/ reviews guys, this was one of the best performances by Sebastian Bach and for sure the best Skid Row record. Sebastian had one of the best voices in music back in the day #painintheask Piper Never Dies by Edguy
I grew up on 80’s hair band, but was all about the grunge when it took over the world! No more riffs and lyrics with little meaning, but Skid Row, adapted and made some amazing songs!
Cool fact: Sebastian Bach was a singer in a band called Sebastian, where he sang some demos, one of which was a song called Saved By Love, audition with this song made him later accepted to a Skid Row, and Kevin (James) LaBrie took his place in a Sebastian band, name of which was later changed to Winter Rose. They did a freaking awesome album called Winter Rose with LaBrie on vocals, you must check it out! Peace :)
Slave to the grind is a great skid row song and the amazing part is if you play it at .75 speed it sounds like grunge and if you play it at 1.25 speed it sounds like death metal
I was waiting to hear you comment on the message of the song. That's what always hooked me in most hard rock music.A later song Sébastien Bach sang 'By Your Side' also moved me to tears.Check it out if you can. GB💪✌💛LnL
Rachel Bolan Interview on May 24, 2011. The question asked was "Is Quicksand Jesus about religious tension or bouts with faith?" Bolan answered: You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I grew up in a Catholic family and so did Snake. You know that good old fashioned Catholic guilt. It’s just about keeping your beliefs during good times and bad times. It’s so easy to not be spiritual when things are going really good and then when they go bad you start relying on whatever god you pray to to get you out of it. It’s kind of saying that whatever it is you believe in, you should probably put in 100% all the time. We started writing it and war broke out in the middle east. The lyrics just started pouring out but we did not have a title for it. Snake and I used to do a lot of dirt bike riding and we knew we wanted “Jesus” in the title but we could never really settle on anything. There was a busted Jesus in Snakes mom’s flower garden. The garden was there right before we took off to go riding on the trail and every time it rained the Jesus sank. We called it “Quicksand Jesus” and what we would do is touch it for luck and then we would take off. If someone would wreck we’d say, “You forgot to touch Quicksand Jesus didn’t you?” One day, we just looked at each other and said, “That’s it! That’s the song title!” That song was a labor of love. Snake and I never had such a tug of war on certain parts and elements of songs as much as we did with that one. That one took us a long time to write. It’s cool that’s your favorite song because that’s my favorite Skid Row song that we ever did. I’m proud of it and I’m so glad we still do that one.

Another awesome reaction from Kel & RIch. Why has NO ONE ever reacted to this song before this?? For me, it's one of their swansongs. Rachel's lyrics alone are poetically perfect. Sadly, all I've personally ever seen are 'I Remember You', '18 & Life', 'Youth Gone Wild' & a couple 'Wasted Time' reactions. BTW...that song is amazing as well. But what about all the other great songs off the first 3 albums with Sebastian?? It's truly sad to recognize that in all probability we're never going to have anything like this again in the rock & metal genres. Bands like Skid Row, Queensryche, Maiden, Priest, Dio, & even into the 90's with Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Dream Theater, etc with ridiculously great vocalists. Even Stryper, whether u like their Christian mssg or not, they crush live. Don't get me wrong...every generation has great artists no doubt. I absolutely love Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, B4MV & Disturbed as well but there's still something from that earlier time that's been lost & now gone. Myles Kennedy IMO is one of the only stand out vocalists today that has any real semblance of that time-period. To the younger generations...I truly feel bad for you because you honestly have ZERO idea of what you missed out on...
Woop woop, I love Skid Row as well. Happy birthday to the requester. Their 3 best songs (imo) are Slave to the Grind, Mudkicker, and Youth Gone Wild. Take that as you will guys. :)

I actually rather blame the never ending singles that came out from the Illusion records for exhausting the palette for this style of rock. Also, this song is the big ballad and excellent but it isn't representative of the Slave to the Grind record. That record is much heavier bordering on thrash vs the first record and lent itself to the direction the band would go after grunge captured the interest of the people. Loved your reaction and that Rich dug it, too.
This is from slave to the grind. I've loved that album for decades now. original had get the f??k out for track number 6 but got swapped. I still listen to this song and many more from that album frequently
We still wear those jackets....mine an all Stryper and another all KISS. I just made 2 more vests....Morbid Angel, Venom, old Slayer and another all Watain. Watain are like motorcycle club vests. My Stryper was just signed by them .

I love this song, so powerful. Skid Row's best song IMHO. Time for these two to listen to some RATT!! Lots of guitar and plenty of attitude, RATT will fit in quite nicely in their "metal" journey. Back For More is a great song to get started on.
Hi guys! Thank you! This songs lyrics are very, very spiritual and mean alot to spiritual people! If you take a closer look at them, they will bring a tear to your eye. 💟
nice to see a real and honest reaction , instead of playacting for clicks. skid row are and always will be one of the best metal bands ( with seb) and this album is up there with the best....thanks guys keep it real always
Love you guys and your reactions. I have a suggestion, 'Nymphetamine' by Cradle of Filth. I'm not a huge black metal fan, but this song that just hits me in the heart. It's a darker song that is intertwined with a elegant beauty. God bless you both.
That’s really nice of you to say these things, Brian. It feels really good to read that level of heartfelt honesty. So kind. Have a super day/night! KnR
#painintheask Could you check out "I Will Remember" by one of my favorite guitarists, George Lynch? It's a beautiful instrumental off one of his earlier solo albums called "Sacred Groove". George plays with a lot of emotion and feel in his guitar playing. He has an amazing tone.
#painintheask . Great review. Thanks guys. Great reaction as well. Could you do slave to the grind next. A lot harder. Plus some crue. Whitesnake and ratt
When other rock bands tone it down with their second album, Skid Row gets harder with their sophomore album Slave to the Grind. At least that’s what was happening in the late 80’s to early 90’s.
That album has two other incredible power ballads, 'In A Darkened Room' and 'Wasted Time'.
'Slave To The Grind' is legitimately one of the greatest hard rock/metal albums of all time. Sebastian's voice is almost supernatural.

I absolutely agree with you 100%. Slave To The Grind is one of the best metal albums ever produced and those 3 songs you named, are my favorite off the album.
People forget about nice stereos. That's what this album needs.
The outro to Wasted Time is probably the best part of the whole album. It’s such a good record.
The album Slave to the grind is a masterpiece and almost never talked about.
Sebastian Bach is one of the best singers in rock history.Another singer that is totally set aside is Jeff Scott Soto from the band Talisman.
Great reaction 👍👍👍
Then he sang for Yngwie... then a ton from there... Now he's in Sons of Apollo with Mike portnoy ex DT and other big name dudes too...
Andrew Baumgartner forgot to mention that☺️
But you’re right,he has been in some big name bands and projects.
He is doing fine on his own but deserves more.👍🤘
Not sure anybody can really touch Sebastian Bach
Absolutely agree that Slave is a masterpiece. I personally felt they just kept getting better the more the original lineup played together. To me it was like the 1st album was more about getting their "pop-ier" material out of the way early on. Even tho its definitely good, its not a fully true representation of them. Then with Slave it was all about "ok, now this is what Skid Row can really do". And Subhuman Race just continued that process to me.
Nicke+ Bringing up Jeff Scott Soto. My joke on him is he's the greatest singer that nobody has ever heard of.
Sebastian's voice is amazing and one of my favorite singers ever.
This song.... oh my God this song. Sebastian Bach is an amazing vocalist you shou try wasted time, his vocals are just well they take me there. And he's very easy on the eyes too❤
Absolutely! While Quicksand Jesus is still my favorite, Wasted Time is close behind with In a Darkened Room and Into Another.
RICH HE WAS A YOUNG BOY, HE HAD A HEART OF STONE, LIVED NINE TO FIVE AND HE WORKED HIS FINGERS TO THE BOOOooOONE!!!
18 and Life. Please guys

Exactly what I was thinking
His voice... Sebastian Bach
One of the best singers back in the 80s, 90s.
Great choice.
Greetings from germany again
The hell you talking about? He is one of if not the best rock singers ever!
Him and Ronnie James Dio. Seb Bach still are, tho. Still active and great.

Good for whomever asked for this. I havent listened to Skid Row for ages. What great memories. 👍
My best song ever, I love Sebastian and I Really love Jesus!!!!!!!!! Thanks for doing this song

Love you guys and your reactions. I have a suggestion, 'Nymphetamine' by Cradle of Filth. I'm not a huge black metal fan, but this song that just hits me in the heart. It's a darker song that is intertwined with a elegant beauty. God bless you both.
Dave the snake wrote all their songs with the bass player honestly as a musician myself Sebastian was always an after thought
This was their best album imo.
Slave to the grind is Skid Row on top. Best album of 90's and one of the best records ever made. Sebastian's voice was supernatural.
It did debut at number one in the summer of 91. Then the Black album came and then, Nevermind!.
one of the best Skid row songs
Kel has the most honest reactions and Rich has great analysis of music that helped define a generation.
That’s really nice of you to say these things, Brian. It feels really good to read that level of heartfelt honesty. So kind. Have a super day/night! KnR
Lyrics are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#skidrow I Remember You Kel will love it.
ive been to dio in 1985 and iron maiden in 1984 with twisted sister my 1st concert was a kiss and loverboy sow in 1979 when i was 10
#painintheask Could you check out "I Will Remember" by one of my favorite guitarists, George Lynch? It's a beautiful instrumental off one of his earlier solo albums called "Sacred Groove". George plays with a lot of emotion and feel in his guitar playing. He has an amazing tone.
Melhor voz que existiu no rock
#painintheask . Great review. Thanks guys. Great reaction as well. Could you do slave to the grind next. A lot harder. Plus some crue. Whitesnake and ratt
Crying in the Rain!!
Deep lyrics just like Steve Clark Scott hill was to me skid row
#painintheask - W.A.S.P. - Wild Child
Blackie Lawless was another, as Sebastian, that was sadly overlooked by mainstream media.
Very good comment...blackie lawless is awesome
I wish they did Eric Adams from Man'O'War
Epic album from Skid Row pantera open up for skid Row back in the day and no one can hit a long note like sebastian. Please do more skid Row
When other rock bands tone it down with their second album, Skid Row gets harder with their sophomore album Slave to the Grind. At least that’s what was happening in the late 80’s to early 90’s.
Sebastian is the best rock singer ever. Period. Would love to see you do Wasted Time or I Remember You.
