EvolverFX (AUv3 Plugin) Deconstructing Performances

  • As a break from the programming guides I've decided to produce this video which attempts to deconstruct performances into their key components and discuss exactly how each part of the performance is achieved. It doesn't go into great depth but might be useful for people wanting to understand how Evolver works and how you construct complex performances from such simple note sequences and sounds.

    Great info. After watching the Programming series, this really makes sense. It's a tool that can take existing melodies or chord progressions and produce them into a fully realized performance. The brilliant part is that once you have your performance set up, you can change the chords and the melodies (or other input) to create a completely new song with the same style and feel. You can also just tweak the performance very easily as well. Fantastic!

      Exactly, this is a very rewarding app if you take the time to understand it. I saw Jade Starr in a recent Progressiosn video driving several instances of Evolver and it sounded so big!!

    Excellent video Paul. I was getting a little frustrated with loading samples, as I was selecting the ‘load’ tab at the top and not touching ‘multi-sample’. But you’ve cleared that up.

      Yes, I appreciate that some people following the programming videos were getting lost. I really need to step back a little and help some of those still struggling so my next Programming Guide will do just that...

      Paul the MusicMan if you wanted to go through the intricacies of drum programming, that would be good. I think I’m getting a handle on it by experimenting, but it might save us some time seeing a demo. 😀

      @@kurtklingklang5918 One of my programming videos shows you how to program a drum sequence, its really easy. Also 'Doug' from The Sound Test Room went over this in a live feed last night. Essentially though you just select the lane, pick a drum multi-sample, select the STEP you want to start recording, then press the 'Step Rec' button and play in your notes. The only gocha is that you might want to practice your playing prior to record, so turn on the 'Audition Sample' button for that, then turn it off once you are ready to record. I will be doing more programming videos and do plan to go over this again in more detail.

      @@PaultheMusicMan thanks again Paul. I'm getting a bit behind with Doug's videos, and I've got one of yours to finish. I thought we were supposed to have lots of spare time during the lockdown? 😉

    Hi Paul, thanks for another fine app. I would realy like to see swing option per lane, multi output and midi triggerable scenes. That would be a great adition.

      Glad you like the app. I am currently working on new features which include variations per lane and triggerable chord sets, but I will add swing to my list.

    Is it only me who just playing/improvising some chords and quickly ends up in a Depeche Mode-ish song? :) Or I just instantly transformed into Alan Wilder? :)
    And sometimes I end up playing Erasure-ish songs as well :)
    I don’t know what’s the magic here. Did Paul constructed the factory performances on a way that makes people writing Depeche Mode songs or is it coded deeply in my brain or both? :) :) :)

    great break down! i’m still not exactly sure what a multi sample is... is it a sample layered with sounds? also i’m finally making really cool stuff with evolver, after our last conversation here it clicked!

    • @PaultheMusicMan
      @PaultheMusicMan  4 роки тому +1

      I'm currently working on a programming guide on recording rythms and melodies which may help you and others. A multi-sample is a voice preset which has a group of samples (say one sample per octave) rather than a single one off sample which is played over the entire range. I would consider Chameleon patches multi-samples.

      Paul the MusicMan ahh that’s cool, kinda what i was thinking. don’t know how to make my own but i’ll use the chameleon ones and evolver presets. hope this app does well , its quickly going in my top 5!

    This was the most helpful tutorial for me so far. Deconstructing all of the wonderful performances that come with the app does seem like an excellent way to learn how to use it. I’ve been able to import Chameleon multi-samples but when I try to import SFZ files, Evolver gives me the error message that it couldn’t import the samples. What am I doing wrong?

    • @PaultheMusicMan
      @PaultheMusicMan  4 роки тому

      The SFZ import is a hidden experimental feature. It does'nt work for all cases, mainly because many of the SFZ files are not constructed correctly or there are too many samples in the file. Make sure you have the audio files there and they are WAV format and make sure there are less than or equal to 24 samples max.

    Difficult to follow where you're tapping and what you ask is to keep an eye on. Also not full screen, as the app is not not stretched to fill your screen and I think you have reduced the screen record resolution/dimensions, it's way too small in the video. I think it would be better if you could see quicker and clearer the sample you have loaded, or at least colour coding lanes for drums, synth sound etc, also do we need the analogue meters? They take up space and make a modern app look dated.

      I get it, you don't like the app... its all good, we can't all like everything!
